  1. Weigel has actually thrown a few nasty pitches here, I can see why the Brewers were intrigued by him enough to trade for him
  2. Stearns did say in the first series of the season that we would see Ashby this season. I will say I’m a little surprised that not one of Weigel, Bettinger, or Lauer received the call today. Lauer might be getting the Burnes project type treatment. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him for awhile
  3. Pretty sure Patrick Weigel could have accomplished that. Not real happy this move cost a potential future pen arm. I wouldn't sweat Bickford. I liked him at one time, but I don't think they would have DFAed him for a guy like Godley if they thought he had any future value at all. Based on his performance I would bet they feel he will pass through waivers anyways and stick within the system.
  4. I agree that this defense and pitching staff is built to win baseball in October. Not just this year either but the next 2-3 years as well. I wonder when the year they truly go for it is going to be. The offense this year doesn't seem like it is just one bat away so hard to see them going all in. Optimistic that as Garcia, Bradley, and Cain come off the books, they'll be able to better bolster the offense and will have a season or two to really go for it before decisions need to be made on Woodruff and Burnes.
  5. What context was given to me? That Taylor has very few ABs? lol, ok then. I mean that is a big deal. I like Taylor and I think he deserves more opportunities. I think he should be starting over McKinney even against RHP. But, 63 ABs is just a tiny snapshot in a career. He has 3000 of those in the minors that show a little bit different player. Now I'm certainly willing to accept the possibility that he's grown and developed and isn't that player anymore. Heck, Trent Grisham wasn't a very good minor leaguer at one time. And that would be a great development if Taylor really started coming around at 27. But, keeping expectations in check for now is warranted. I don't think anybody is suggesting Taylor is an all-star caliber player right now that just isn't getting his shot. It's more that we know what we have with Garcia and it isn't very good. With Taylor we don't really know what we have but he has shown a small sample that it might be pretty good so let's at least roll with him for the time being and find out more. Maybe it turns out Taylor isn't much better than Garcia at all, not sure he could be any worse though so might as well see.
  6. It isn't really making a mountain out of a molehill when you evaluate him based on his entire Brewers tenure. There were reasons to be intrigued about him when he signed but he just hasn't panned out the way an optimist would've hoped for. Tough to give him the benefit of last year being an outlier year with Covid considering he is past his prime and doesn't have a great track record to begin with. At this point I think he's provided a large enough sample to say he's just a below average player who has hurt our lineup and the money to sign him could've been better spent elsewhere. Hopefully the Brewers view his contract as a sunk cost and give Taylor an opportunity instead of continuing to trot Garcia out there.
  7. You aren’t fooling anyone. Avi hasn’t been a good baseball player for the majority of his career. I agree with you, but Garcia wasn't terrible before coming to Milwaukee. His career OPS was .750. Big, fast, played a lot of games because he broke in at a young ago, so maybe some unrealized potential. It just hasn't worked out so far. The good news is they need him right now, and when they get healthy he can split time, and they'll move on. I mean it isn't trying to fool a team like Colorado, that discussion would be: "hey you aren't trying to compete this year anyways, take this guy and we'll attach a lottery ticket or two with him. You have nothing to lose and maybe if he starts hitting in the CO air, you can flip him again at the deadline for another couple prospects."
  8. He hasn't "turned out" anything just yet...Too early to tell. He needs to be straightened out for sure. I refuse to believe he is a lost cause. I'm not totally throwing in the towel either, but what is going on with him is far from an easy fix. I hope he figures it out. But he'd be one of many on a long list of top hitting prospects who started out strong and then flamed out quickly when the league figured them out. He looks so outclassed at this level. The one thing giving me hope is that two years ago Burnes was lost too and the Brewers were able to get him right. Not apples to apples but something to be optimistic about?? Maybe?
  9. Would getting out of the contract the rest of this year add anything THIS year though? Does that mean we have 10 million to play with in a trade later? Highly doubtful. Maybe some more flexibility to add at the deadline or bring back Braun?? Mostly just wishful thinking on my end. I would rather see Taylor get consistent playing time but not sure that will happen with Avi still around. Don't see the Brewers just DFA'ing him though
  10. Wonder if we could NBA style trade Garcia...send him to Colorado or Det and attach a minor leaguer with him in exchange for a bag of balls. Those teams get another flyer on a prospect and if Avi gets on track they can flip him again at the deadline. We atleast get out of his contract the remainder of the year
  11. Does the Marlins bullpen walk in as many runs as the Cubs? That was our best offense Three of the five runs scored on hits. 4 of the 7 base runners got on via BB or HBP. Could've phrased it better but point was that rally wasn't exactly due to the bats heating up
  12. How many runs did the Brewers have yesterday through 8? Does the Marlins bullpen walk in as many runs as the Cubs? That was our best offense
  13. His throw to first last inning wasn't exactly impressive either
  14. And he's tanking so bad it's not even like we can use him as part of a package in a trade to get some all-star hitter. Like this winter you could've reasonably said he was great in 2019, not so great last year but look at the upside. Now it's like this guy is so lost we might give you some sort of reliever or utility infielder or something and see if we can salvage something. His value has tanked so much you're better off just sending him to the minors and hoping he finds it eventually...even if it takes more than this season. His upside is still better than any scraps another team would buy low on him with. Send him down and don't bring him back till he figures it out even if that's 2 years from now.
  15. Garcia is really looking like a bad signing. Hindsight wish we would have kept Grisham and used that $10m per year on the infield
  16. As much as i like Manny.... He doesn't belong there. With this lineup I'm not sure who the better option would be though
  17. I hope we give Taylor an opportunity as a full time player either this year if JBJ and Garcia continue to struggle or next year when the outfield opens up. Starting to have similar vibes to Grisham as a prospect
  18. Would sound good, sure, but true answer is "this is 2021 and this stuff happens." Most players these days don't hustle on pop ups, routine grounders, etc. Even base hits and doubles, they run 3/4 speed or so and then turn it on if the ball is bobbled. Yoy rarely see players bust it hard and round the base. Avi's pop-up is a more extreme example, to be sure. Agreed that this was an extreme example that looks pretty bad when the reality is the Cubs just made a heads up play that 1.) majority of players probably don't make and 2.) was on a ball that 99.9% of the time is going to result in the batter being out. This isn't little league where anything can happen on any ball put in play. A soft pop up to the second baseman is going to be an out every time, I don't think players need to be booking it down the line on such a routine play...I would also bet it leads to more injuries (see Lo. Cain) than it leads to getting on base when they otherwise wouldn't have. Now is it a great example for kids who are watching? No definitely not, but that's a different discussion.
  19. For as maddening as this offense is, they do seem to do just enough to win games. Not sure if that’s glass half full or half empty...either way they make you wanna drink.
  20. Hiura has hit the ball hard today and nothing to show for it...hopefully he'll drop one in the gap or hit one out to get the confidence up. Have to think his time to turn this around at the MLB level is ticking.
  21. I agree. This team is positioned to play winning baseball in October when pitching is what wins games. I think we're well positioned to improve at the deadline too. With the starting rotation throwing as they are, the Williams/Hader bullpen duo, and offense showing improvement (assuming Yelich comes back to form too), they don't necessarily need the deadline superstar acquisition to put them over the top. Middle relievers and mid-tier bats (think Moustakas from years past) could really move the needle for this team and wouldn't require the cost of a player like CC, Machado, or what it is assumed Story will end up costing this year.
