    The way it works is that nobody really remembers the regular seasons - you are really only judged by postseason performance. Whether this is the best team since '82 is yet to be determined because of this. It's a fact of life that the bigger budget teams are better built for the postseason. But, if you're in the tournament, there's a chance, and the Brewers have done a fantastic job of qualifying on a regular basis. I'm just realistic that our odds are not quite as good once we get there, regardless of regular season performance.

    A lot of people seem to have correctly predicted elements of this team - starting pitching not covering as many innings as you’d like, young players getting an opportunity to play with ups and downs, and even Adames having a productive season. I can’t put my finger on any one thing in how this got MacGuyvered into such a formidable squad, but the whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts.

    This is admittedly an inevitable thing with 24 games left, but the next win clinches a winning season. Easy to take it for granted from a September POV, but it was not a given from a March POV.

    Different sport, but I got paired up with an NBA ref a couple of years ago golfing. Very interesting perspectives - they do have a ranking system and the bottom 25% (I don’t remember the exact number) are put in watch for being replaced. This ref hated that. He was basing it on the idea that there was a high standard just to get the job, and not a huge amount of variation in their metrics from best to worst. I think baseball has more variation, plus is more possible to use technology, though.

    It's hard to say whether this matters or not, but there was some mention in a recent article about Chourio that the Spanish-speakers amongst the Brewers hang out on the road. He mentioned Montas as part of that group. I don't know the Reds roster very well (i.e., whether there was a group of Spanish-speaking players), but he seems to have been embraced fairly quickly here.

    I was assuming the Brewers want pitchers other than Milner in the pen if all these other guys are healthy and effective. If that's the case, what do they have to do with Milner and when (thus my previous question about keeping him on the IL)?

    I am not knowledgeable about how this works, so pardon my ignorance here. What is the situation with Milner? Can they just keep him on the IL, or do they have to do something with him relatively soon?

    There’s an old adage that some baseball guru once said that every team wins 40 games and loses 40 games - it’s how you do with the other 80. Well, maybe not. The Chisox only have 30 wins so far and will have to win at a higher winning rate than they have so far to get to 40.
