    Three months is not a small sample size. I think people are pissed because Ortiz was finally heating up and Hamilton is one step above useless.

    Before the trade deadline I would've agreed with you, but they addressed some big needs that tipped the scales.

    To be specific, I meant the Dodgers, Braves and Phillies, but now that you mention it, maybe we're not top four.

    I don't even think the Brewers are top three in the NL.

    The NFL and MLB are two totally different animals. There's a salary cap in the NFL. There isn't one in MLB.

    Of course it's important. I've never said today that the game was over. I've never said today the season was over. All I've done was tell some inconvenient truths that some people can't handle and can't interpret. Gasser stunk today just as Drohan stunk yesterday. Murphy badly mismanaged the game yesterday. A six man rotation is stupid. Pointing stuff out like that is not pessimism. Let me be clear on my feelings about this year. I expect to make the playoffs. I even expect to win the division. I fully expect to be one and done in the playoffs no matter who we play.

    And then they are dumbfounded when those weaknesses are exposed in the playoffs. It's as if having the best record in the regular season doesn't make you the best team in baseball.

    I sure hope we get to play the Angels and Rockies in October.

    I guess the one tiny chance to win is if we get this supposedly great farm system to gel quickly before all our best players head for the Dodgers and Yankees and we're back in rebuilding mode again.

    I'm not. I've already accepted the fact that I will not witness a World Series championship in my lifetime. Teams like the Brewers don't win championships in this day and age.

    But that's not how it works. Nothing is linear. We've had one of the easiest schedules since the All Star break and the Cubs have still managed to gain on us. There's no doubt the Cubs are playing better ball than us right now.

    They could just stop screwing around with this 6 man rotation and go back to the 5 like it should be.

    I sure hope we don't see Henderson tonight. Gasser is the most inconsistent starter we have.

    I wouldn't be surprised. He probably cooled off sitting on the bench as long as he has. It was probably a mercy start by Murphy.
