  1. I've got a little mileage on me. I collected a LOT of baseball cards in the day & read whatever baseball magazine I could get my hands on. As the years go by, I haven't kept track of other rosters year-to-year like I'm sure many of you do, and my "good old days" memories don't include more recent teams. So I've had a lot of 9-9 grids, many with rarity scores in the single digits, but if they throw the Marlins, Rays, or Rockies at me I'm usually in trouble. Like today, for the Brewers/Jays combo I used Phil Roof. My OF was Marshall Edwards, and 30 SB guy was Pat listach. Finally, some use for living in the past.😛
  2. A thousand times, yes. If it ain't broke......... This may be odd, but I like the IGT even though I very rarely post while a game is going on. I enjoy going on afterward, posting some observations about what I just saw & reviewing some of the comments that were made "live". I guess there will always be a certain amount of toxicity & disagreement, as sports fans are passionate & usually opinionated about what would make their team better. But for those who think it's bad, I can direct you to places that make this site look like Sunday go to meetin' in comparison. Many good folks on here. I appreciate the chance to interact.
  3. Even Sunday would be short rest, considering how the rotations' been handled thus far. But yeah, that should happen.
  4. IMO the chances of him throwing at Siri were something more than zero, but he shouldn't get tossed w/o warning. Did he suddenly lose command that badly (remember it was on a 3-0 pitch)? Hard to sell that one.
  5. The way the season has gone for this pitching staff, I guess it's par for the course that one way or another we'd have to use five pitchers in an 8-2 win. So if Sanchez is IL'ed for a time, the catcher-at-DH thing gets minimized to "off days" for Contreras. Big opportunity for Black. Those were four really nice at-bats.
  6. I'd be surprised if Bauers gets released. But I agree with how you think Black will be used.
  7. So if it's Miller or Dunn (my guess), then other than the DH slot your bench is one INF, one OF, a C & two 1B. Strange. I made it known I wasn't happy with the Bauers trade at the time. Certainly sporadic w/the bat, but to be fair if you look at the entire season we might have a couple more losses if not for his glove. That gets magnified when you look at Hoskins' defense (although it looks like he might be settling in there a little), and even more when you consider Blacks' struggles. I don't see Bauers simply getting released. Does he have options?
  8. Agreed. I've caught a lot of years, was a catching instructor, and know of nothing in the books about a catcher lunging forward causing interference. He might've moved forward a little, but the contact was all on Bauers.
  9. You make your call. The manager on the short end argues. After the inevitable umpire huddle it goes to review. Someone in NY either sees that the ball got away before the interference & the runner would've easily scored from 3rd, or he is heavily medicated. As the rule is written, that makes no difference since the ball is dead. So what would've happened, conk on the head or not, becomes moot. It's not reviewable. Would've been nice if it was. I think Murphy handled himself pretty well, considering what transpired the last two days.
  10. It would be nice if there was an element of common sense baked in.......or if replay could get involved & subsequently place runners, as in "Yes, batter's out on interference, but it occured after the PB or WP, therefore..........." I might have to look up the ins-and-outs on fan interference. Maybe buy a Diamond Box season ticket, take a bat with me, and fling it at Contreras every time a ball goes past him & a runner(s) is going to advance.
  11. He made the exact point you just made. He leaned on the idea of the contact not affecting the ball going back to the screen, and he's correct about that. But 'dead ball' was called immediately. The frustration is in the fact that the contact didn't affect anything that subsequently transpired.
  12. Even though Pepiot was excellent tonight, I won't defend them getting shut out. But they scored 22 runs in their last 4 games before today. What they could really use is Yelich back & hitting 3rd. That moves others back, fleshes out the middle of the order more & (you would hope) puts Bauers in the bottom 3rd of the order when he plays. We don't know to what extent Yelich will be in & out of the lineup this year. But if he gets a substantial amount of ABs & Chourio gets comfortable , check back.
  13. There's some validity to what you're saying. I can also see how it was called the way it was called. Despite the valid point you raise though, there's no way that argument would bear fruit unless our manager was Billy Martin. What sucks is that there was grey matter to both what happened tonight, and what happened yesterday. And we were left holding the bag both times. To those of us who have seen 5 million baseball games, it's typical that you'd score 8 runs over two games & give up thirty, then the next day give up one & get shut out.
  14. Who saw the start to the season Barrios has turned in? Very exciting.
  15. Unless Hoskins or Bauers suffers an injury I see no way Black makes it up here any time soon. We value versatility, and you need it with a 13 position-player group. Three 1B won't fly. Junk for Koenig makes sense. But looking at TB I don't think you'd want 3 LH relievers. But that leaves you with........Martin? Unless Junis comes back w/o rehab appearances (doubtful). Bradley Blalock (Biloxi) hasn't thrown for 4 days & is on the 40-man. EDIT: Forgot that barring IL hocus-pocus Koenig can't return yet.
  16. It is not. Unrelated, but I'd like to know how much extra length you get wearing a tennis racquet cover on your hand when sliding into a base. Three inches? Five?
  17. Nice factoid. I didn't know it was that few.
  18. To me that's the common thread btwn him & Weimer, and I think it's really hurt Joey. Chourio seems much better able to handle the skip. But he's caught up in that malaise right now where he's often taking strikes & swinging at balls and always seems to be 0-2. But I like how he's often consciously trying to go to RF, it's obvious when you watch him at the plate. He hit a few balls hard this weekend. There just seems to be a presence about him---it's like he's frustrated, but he knows it's going to turn around. Not hopes, KNOWS. Just a case of adjusting to the book that's out on him.
  19. No official verification that I can find, but there's a lot of smoke billowing around that they secured three commitments this weekend. The other two (if true) would be John Tonje, a 6'5" 220LB wing forward from Colorado State & Xavier Amos, a 6'8" forward from Northern Illinois that Virginia was going after, not a banger but a shot blocker and a 38% shooter from 3. Tonje has shown the ability to score from the perimeter & inside at the MWC level. They would probably still look for a 4th guy & supposedly are in the conversation for Jaden Schutt from Duke.
  20. That would be my guess, as I think the only thing the WIAA would hate more than NIL, is being dragged into court due to NIL. It'll be interesting to see how vigorously someone will challenge it. Hoping that at the HS level it'll be primarily a case of a unique talent at an individual sport, like Stoutdudes' reference to the golfer.
  21. Of course he is. What I'm saying is Wiemer should be the one in Nashville, not Chourio. Bad time to trade Wiemer, unless you think this is his ceiling. And there's no reason to. He should be getting 4 ABs a day in AAA.
  22. I think when he returns Yelich will replace Either Chourio or Wiemer. And I think it should be Wiemer.
  23. No idea, but my best guess would be to check 1970s games in Fenway.
  24. Even though it was pretty obvious, I thought there was enough---I don't know if the word would be randomness---to the play where the umps would never simply say "we blew it." So a little surprising to me.
  25. Thought about that a couple innings later, that if Judge did this in a game vs the Red Sox we'd be hearing about it & having it analyzed on ESPN & MLBN for the next four days.
