  1. Fair enough. Just saw another replay. It looked like he was quite a bit closer than 10 feet from the release of the throw FWIW. I mean, he's 6'8", but he's sliding. and I don't know if you can decipher exactly where the INF is releasing the throw from. But he gave it a good try. I'd love to know how much extra reach you get w/the mitt.
  2. To block throws, I guess. I don't know if he ever goes in headfirst. It's one of those things where if you're Judge you do it until you can't. Shoulda called it. They didn't. I was mainly referring to the rotten luck element of it. You can TRY to do that, and very seldom get a piece of the ball.
  3. If the 'Cats feel OK about filling their 1B-DH w/o Hall or Adams on the roster that would work. It shuts out much of Metzingers' opportunities with Wisco, but that doesn't appear to be a big issue.
  4. Fair enough. I think Hall has a much, much better chance of helping us as a starter this year than Ashby. Ashby is a mess right now, a much bigger one than what I've seen from Hall.
  5. Well, like he said we need him healthy. Pretty sure 3IP isn't his ceiling.
  6. Obviously couldn't catch a break to save our lives in the 6th. But the big thing is how poorly we responded. What gets me is not only no interference, but even if you're 6'8" you can do that 100 times & never come close to getting a piece of the ball when sliding. Uribe threw a pretty good 3-2 to Rizzo, not a strike but could easily get a swing. Not today. Then he got squeezed a couple other times. Then we just let the whole thing get in our heads.
  7. Like I said I'm a believer in the guy. And you're right, other than not maintaining a high average it certainly isn't like he's drowning at A+ or anything like that. But as you said he's 20, and I don't think it would hinder his development at all. The biggest negative for me is it would find him playing much more at 1B, which doesn't exactly thrill me at this point as I like him being stretched defensively, yet I suspect that's his best spot. A larger part of this, for me, is Hall. The lack of power is somewhat strange but other than that needs to be bumped.
  8. For anyone interested, Gus Yalden has committed to Seton Hall. Like a lot of other schools they've had about half a dozen guys leave, so I guess there's an opportunity there. Of course where he goes isn't as important as getting his **** together.
  9. I'm a big Luke Adams guy, still believe strongly he can make an impact. But at this juncture I wonder if it might make sense to return him to Carolina & advance Tayden Hall.
  10. Was wondering the same thing. Collins has a little more defensive versatility too. But until they make changes to the 40 man........ I'm beginning to think we're rolling with Wiemer & Chourio until Yelich is ready, then one of them goes down.
  11. However this plays out re the rotation, I'm looking forward to Bryce Wilson returning to the multi-innings role in the pen he filled last year. Important role, & he filled it well.
  12. It might be a case of leaving well enough alone, like you alluded to. Could be waiting until they get to the point where Turang is more comfy vs LHP so he can be plugged in there regularly. Or maybe they just like him coming up with a baserunner or two since his situational hitting has been terrific. Perhaps the biggest argument in favor of it is the thought of Contreras hitting behind him, with that RF stroke of his. With Turang on ahead of him that would be a lot of fun.
  13. You couldn't come up with a rhyme that didn't use "gas" & "pass"?😛
  14. But saying teams 'run home on all contact at all times' doesn't make sense. It's not true. I could see where many people are entertained by the guy. He's just not for me.
  15. What an embarrassingly bad rant. So teams "run home on all contact at all times". Genius.
  16. The only fault I can see with this particular play is MAYBE Jones could've gotten in a rundown to try to get the batter-runner to 2nd. But pretty doubtful.
  17. I think on the contact play, if you hesitate at 3B & read whether the ball gets by the pitcher, often you can't score due to that start-stop-start. There's a reason why most teams do what they do, the way they do it. Damn, what a dynamic win. I thought Koenig would be one of those shuttle guys btwn AAA & MIlwaukee. Not so sure now. After fouling off two bunts, what a big boy AB by Turang to STILL get the runner to third. Rea seemed a little afraid of contact in the AB to the 8-hole hitter preceding the HR by Grisham. Fell behind both guys. Uncharacteristic. Still, the offense kept us there & allowed him to go six. Loved how Hudson found a way to put up a zero despite not locating the way he's used to. Looked every bit like a veteran.
  18. Seventeen-yr-old kids----at least the top 50-75 HS players----I think will still go to the big name schools. Playing elsewhere as you alluded to makes sense for them if the current structure continues, but it's hard to find a top 50 HS kid that doesn't think he can immediately garner PT anywhere, regardless of competition. A five-star kid from Cleveland might be wise to spend a year at Wright State, but he won't think he 'needs' to. And if his destination doesn't work out there will always be another P-5 that just lost six players. I suspect there will still be decent money offered to the elite HS kids. Kon Kneuppel is most likely getting 6 figures from Duke.
  19. Outside of the possible snafu due to dealing with minors, I don't see how the result of that vote can't be successfully challenged. Hope the young ladys' parents have their heads screwed on straight--this reminds me a little of child actors in the 1950s-60s. Having a talented youngster can be quite a blessing but can go sideways in a hurry w/o planning & proper guidance. Good luck to her. But I still can't stop beating the dead horse: Entering & playing in golf tournaments has zero to do with what NIL was originally purported to do.
  20. Maybe Gibson works some of their games, but I've watched them when Dan Petry (former pitcher) was the analyst & he sounded like some 79-yr-old guy that was killing time because it wasn't quite meds & nap time yet. I proceeded to look it up & he's my age, which makes me wonder how such a youthful guy can sound so lackluster.😁
  21. That might prove to be a pretty good analogy, in time. But before I put that label on him I'd like to see Wiemer get a chance to actually settle in at the AAA level & see if the setup & swing adjustments can take hold. He's never really had that chance.
  22. You're right re Wiemer & last season. Just an unfortunate situation having to use him in Milwaukee last season (and this, too, for that matter). What I wouldn't give for him to just be left alone to put up 500 ABs this year at AAA. But way too toolsy to be given up on. With Mitchell, of the top 5 issues, four are health. And the fifth is the high K rate, which can only be rectified by more PAs, which is hindered by.........health. Like with Wiemer, too much there to give up on yet. Don't know if he'll ever hit LHP well enough, but I like Frelick. I just feel the kids a winner on both ends of the floor. let's keep in mind Turangs' struggles last year. Frelick never struggled quite that badly, and I think there's still some room for growth.
  23. That would be pretty much their only avenue to make money, since they're non-revenue sports & NIL would be non-existent or close to it. Might as well challenge. The NCAAs' record in these cases makes the '62 Mets look like the 1927 Yankees.
  24. I've met & talked to coaches both at UW & other schools, both assistants & HCs. Regarding what they tell recruits & how they deal with them, I firmly believe that since the mid-nineties the BB program has been about as above-board as you're going to find among P-5 schools. Let me say that they're not alone; there are others in the same category.
  25. There's talk that Crowl has been approached & immediately shut them down. Whether that's integrity, simply being happy where he is (I'm sure some would describe it as 'stupidity'), it's refreshing to me. I imagine there are other examples of that across the country, which of course won't garner headlines.
