  1. So, yesterday Kon Kneuppel chose Duke. I was a bit surprised, not that I was overly confident about him going to UW (they had a legitimate shot but it was far from a given), but I felt his #1 choice if he decided to go away from home was Virginia. There's a pretty good relationship there between his family & the extended Bennett clan. Blue bloods swoop in late all the time & cherry-pick, he just didn't strike me as the type of kid who would be swayed late in the process. Their list of offers & kids they're considering offering is still an impressive one, with a legitimate shot at all but 1 or 2, IMO.
  2. In your opinion (since you met the guy), which one is the phony?
  3. This would be much more easily attainable under the old September roster callup rules. Hard to water down a lineup now, outside of giving Anderson his first start since dinosaurs roamed the earth.
  4. Having the extra man or two due to a short staff DOES give him a chance, you're right about that. There are other candidates for PR, but for pure speed he more than likely trumps them. We'll see I guess.
  5. Still nine games left, so they probably are still fluid as to what the roster will look like. I assume their biggest concern right now is Peguero being good to go after his IL stint. One thing I feel pretty certain about is that there's no way we'll see Garrett Mitchell. Perkins has looked downright competent at the plate since being added. This team has become much, much better at working the count, drawing walks, making contact. Getting better at that stuff should be Mitchells' winter homework assignment.
  6. No clue as to the movie, but I always thought with the 'stache he looked like the Oklahoma State mascot. Now he doesn't look like anyone.
  7. Chicago is now closer to the Pirates in the standings, than they are to us. Meaningless, but who woulda thunk that was going to happen?
  8. Yeah. Wainwright I'm sure has some of those qualities, but you usually don't get a lot of benefit from those intangibles from a starting pitcher.
  9. They almost certainly don't. If it were to happen, Anderson going would make more sense then Tellez IMO, but if compelled to do so they probably would've by now.
  10. That's the thing. I think his timing is OK now, he's staying on the ball pretty well, but just about everything is on the ground. Even the ball he hit hard Sunday when he had the bad fortune of the 1B playing on the bag, hit well but not elevated. Black is obviously a more talented guy offensively. But it's out of the norm for them to throw someone on a playoff roster who has no experience. We'll see if he's here when N'Villes' season ends, that would be telltale. Wouldn't be against it but I doubt it.
  11. It was really strange, after year after year of having good teams, to see them in September playing a game & just kinda being "out there" w/o much intensity. Fun, though.😁
  12. I'd say the hand placement WAS a detriment for quite a while, and adjustments can be made, even at the MLB level. I suppose the flip side is he was dealing with the best pitchers in the world, and at his level of (in)experience it would've been too much to throw at him up here, as it probably involves more than just the hands.. Bottom line, he needed to retool, and of course Nashville is a much better place for that to happen.
  13. Sometimes it's hard to see incremental changes in a stance or swing. But holy cow is that hand placement ever obvious. Kudos to Al LeBoeuf, I guess. Not sure exactly what that says about Timmons/Dawson.
  14. That was my only nit-pick of the night. I'm sure the company line would go along the lines of "he just got back from the IL", and that's actually not a bad reason to pull him. But he struggled the first 2-3 innings, after that settled down & was REAL good, and had I think 6-7-8 due up in the 7th. Wasn't shocked they pulled him, but sorta disappointed.
  15. I've been very impressed by him, he has obvious talent & just oozes moxie. But those advanced stats you brought up.........just wow.😲
  16. That's where it's at, IMO. If he's locating like he needs to he should get ground balls. The worst starts I recall for him (Toronto & I think someone else) he got a lot of solidly-hit grounders that were hit where they ain't. I'd feel better if Turang was out there in that scenario, but Monasterio has looked pretty good at 2B & Donaldson is fine at 3B. Santana has also been real good with the glove. Glad to see people noticing that. I'll guess Caratini catches today, freeing up DH for Contreras since I'm betting Tellez is in the lineup Thursday.
  17. I've known about Navarretos' defensive moxie, but this is the first time I've seen someone go into such great detail about him. Thanks. Would you comp him to a Marty Maldonado? Given the huge boost Monasterio has given the Brewers, it's always worth it to keep a finger on the pulse of the "under the radar" guys. Still keeping a watchful eye on my guy Devanney. Again, thanks for a terrific post.
  18. That was touched on awhile back. He wants 2 LHP in the pen. Look at the other candidates.
  19. He certainly isn't. The walk in the 9th ticked me off. But I know he isn't as bad as some try to make him out to be, because that would be impossible. The Eric Sogard of the bullpen, I guess.
  20. There's no way CC is sending Payamps out for a 2nd inning at this stage if he doesn't have to.
  21. I dunno. I think it's Yadi. On the ball hit by Canha in front of the plate, I'm sure he would've turned that into a triple play, saving one of the outs for the next inning.
  22. I really believe he'll get to the point where that's not the case. Actually, when they first promoted him I thought the command would be worse than it's been. Fortunately he has the stuff to overcome the growing pains.
  23. So the last time they hit 4 doubles in a row was 1974. I'll go with May, Briggs, Scott & Darrell Porter. Loved the add-on runs, but particularly the manufactured one in the 8th. We all know how hard Taylors' been hitting the ball, but he drew a nice walk to lead off. Second of the game for someone who seldom does that. Real nice job. Fun to crank up the running game vs these guys, since the last time you could do that was in the 1880s, before Molina. Monasterio is going to be at 2B vs LHP, as he should be. Very nice to see him transition there smoothly after all that time at third. Great job on the Goldschmidt ball. Uribe was kind of a microcosm in his inning. Walking a guy w/a lead after going 0-2 is a big no-no. But then he sets his jaw after the WP & is impressive. Gonna be fun to watch him grow. Wasn't going to say this because he had a nice game, but after the leadoff double by Santana Adames pulls a ground ball to short. On the first pitch. UUUGGGHH. I saw he hit himself in the head after being thrown out. Next time, maybe hit yourself in the head BEFORE the AB. You might hit the "on" button. But like I said, other than that he had a nice night. Seems to be a real positive mentor for Uribe.
  24. It's impressive when you look at the MLB & AAA levels, how many OFs they have that can play CF. I mean legitimately play it well.
  25. Unless it's a lengthy bottom of the 1st I think they should consider giving Megill 2 innings.
