As we think about minor league depth and trade deadlines I often find myself curious about who is Rule 5 eligible next year. It would be great to have this easily accessible and maybe get early thoughts on who they add to the 40 man. Since these are still minor leaguers I figured it would be best here.

Still has work to do behind the plate, but the pace of his progress along with his athleticism tells me after another year he will be an above average catcher. Logan Henderson I see Henderson as a good 3/4 pitcher. I'm excited for what he can offer this team.Brett Wichrowski Still needs to get more consistency with his stuff and add some upper body muscle. Yes his stats are not great currently, but his potential is 2/3. I'm betting on him putting it all together.Mike Boeve Boeve is still the best bat in the system. He has basically been going thru his spring training live. Come end of July and people will be clamoring for him to be moved up as well. His tendency to get injured is the only thing that has me this low.Jeferson Quero I think his bat has improved. Amazed to see his swing is still as good as it is. I imagine it will take some time to get in a good groove. The arm still has a bit of catching up to do and may never return to elite. This puts his ceiling a little lower. Maybe not future All-star, but still should be in the big leagues next year.Luke Adams Recency Bias. I honestly thought he would have more struggles at AA. He has impressed me, so chance are he could continue to impress me. With his surprising speed, and multitudes of 1B, do they give him some more Playing time in LF?Coleman Crow Not sure how his stuff is going to play at AAA or the majors, but been lights out so far.Craig YohoLuis LaraBraylon Payne He still has the God given skills, fundamentals are a little off. His progress depends on his humbleness to listen to hitting coaches, and his ability to buy in and get comfortable with changes instead of doubting them.Robert Gasser Injury is the only thing that has Gasser this low. Excited to see him back on the field towards the end of the year.Bishop Letson Bishop does have Ace potential if he can stay healthy. Health and consistency are still lacking and holding him out of the top 10.Bryce Meccage Here for talent and stuff. Still has to put it together consistently. Has potential to be top ten next year at some point, and that is saying a lot in this system.Eric Bitonti I believe he deserves to be higher, but recency bias downgrades him. Hoping he catches fire and gets some more contact and less Ks.Blake Burke Hard to imagine a previous top100 overall not making the list. (Tyler Black) My next 10 21. Black 22. Tyson Hardin - How is this guy not on the top 20? Depth. 23. Adamczewski - Still has potential for top 10 next year, just has to get healthy 24. Dubanewicz - Love his delivery styles but not his earings style. Has some good stuff that pitching lab could turn into great stuff. It might take a while but he has stuff+. Like many, if he can add 2-3MPH- watch out. He has room to add more muscle unto his 6'3" frame. sometimes listed as 6'1" so not sure. signed way over slot for a reason. Good sinking action, changeup has a lot of fade. I'd like to see him take more off of it. Link also touches on Dorchies. 25. Dorchies 26. Hayden Robinson 27. Ernesto Martinez- Still has to get locked in after his last injury. 28. KC Hunt- Started slow, but getting back to his old self. Can he build on it? 29. Birchard - If he can get rid of his walks and wild streaks- he's got it. But That seems a long ways away 30. Cornielle

Luis Pena Love the swing, love the speed, love the contact level, love the surprising bat speed so far, and I think he is going to get stronger and be the best of this bunch. Defense needs some work, but it will come along.Jacob Misiorowski Normally a possible ace would be number 1 on my list every time. He still has to prove to me his consistency. Can we see 4 starts in a row without a blow-up?Jesus Made Most of the power so far has been to the opposite field. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing or neither. For me the top 3 are really interchangeable. Made with a little bit more power at this time, and Pena with a little more hit over power. I dont think the gap is that big between these two.Braylon Payne Upside is still there to be a Top 10 overall with the athleticism. Too many bad swing decisions so far and too much swing and miss overall.Jeferson Quero Shoulder injury on a defense first catcher is kind of scary. Prove me wrong. He would likely be number 3 for me otherwise.Mike Boeve I still think this is the best bat in the system. He needs to find a way to cut out on strikeouts.Tyson HardinBryce MeccageAlexander Cornielle He's surprised me so far this year. He's had several great games in the past, but I don't remember him stringing together a complete month like this before. Is it time to get my hopes up again? This is a great system with a wealth of talent. You can look at the top 20 and make a case that by all-star break or even by the end of the year, the brewers could have 7-10 top 100 player- (Pena, Miso, Made, Quero, Payne, Boeve, Pratt, Letson, Bitonti, Adamczewski). Top 3 to me of Pena, Miso, & Made are in a tier all their own. This is a tier where we could see them in discussions for top 10 overall. Depth of the system is also insane. I would say there are a handful of systems where our number 20 is another teams top 10. Pitchers in this system are also uber young for the most part. Some are performing well early, and still have lots of room for development in one of the best pitching development systems. I can't believe some of the names I had to leave off of this list. Let's get this list to at least a top 30. Yoho would have been on this list higher as he deserves it, but I dont see the Brewers sending him back down, so in my mind he has graduated. Yerlin also deserves a spot just for his stuff, but as a relief pitcher he needs to prove it a little bit longer. Manual Rodriguez, I have loved, I just am concerned about the lack of speed so far. Carlos Rodriguez, I see you, and you are still young and showing out. The other pitchers since they are new to the system just are giving me a little more to dream on at this point. Ernesto, you are one of my favorite players, you are just a little more older with a big swing that I hope plays well in the Bigs, but I'm not sure. Also a few too many uncharacteristic errors in the early season. This being said, I hope we see you in the lineup soon and that you are our starting 1B next year. You would be on my list if I didn't typically value pitchers and up the middle position players a little bit higher. Jose Anderson with his early season power in the DSL last year still excites me the most on this list as far as what we might have that we dont know about. Crow is another unknown that I am excited to see.

How do they determine the international signing bonus pool?

Well, not really mistaken. Isn’t he literally being called up to replace an injured pitcher in Civale?

Not to read too much into it, but on milb.com scoreboard, the projected starter for Nashville tomorrow changed from Carlos Rodriguez to Henderson, Flipping the order that they pitched to start the season. I'm not sure where they get their information from, but if correct it could hint that C. Rodriguez could be the guy getting the call. To be fair, he is the only starter besides Miso that pitched well the first time through. At sometime this year they need to get another decent look at C. Rodriguez. He's young and still developing. I feel the last times whether it was jitters or just not being locked in, it was not the best version of C. Rodriguez. It seems Rodriguez has had some extended really great patches (months long) and some patches where he struggles. Miso on the other hand, has been more game to game either lights out, or no brightness. Carlos Rodriguez gets my vote.

While you do remove guys from 60 day IL and full season IL, I don’t believe you remove 40 man guys that are not on the 26 man. Not sure how that would adjust the count.

I would imagine it depends upon how his stuff looks tonight. If he looks fine and confident, I expect him to start even if it is just 4 innings. I’m surprised by what Brewers.com has as starters for the opening series. Is that official? While typically I would expect those 3 in that order. (Peralta, Cortes, Civale) I would also think there might be some consideration for keeping one of their more top end stretched out starters for their opening homestand. This would also split up the days of likely high bullpen use. My crazy idea: Peralta Keonig /E. Rodriguez - piggyback- Rodriguez gets sent down afterwards Civale Cortes Quintana/Patrick piggyback or Henderson/Thomas I expect lots of roster moves to keep the bullpen fresh in the first couple weeks if Uribe is on the team.

A little surprised by this list. It looks like this would include all ACL players. Am I wrong on this? I’m more surprised of no Juan Ortuno after his year. Was expecting Quintana from DSL and others to be stateside as well. Maybe this is an ever changing list? Can someone educate me on this?

Color me concerned as well, but not too worried. I think they were really hoping for Rodriguez to seize the spot, with Alexander as a backup option. One could also make an argument that Henderson was higher on the depth chart. A couple things to consider: Even though it is late in Spring training, they may still be tinkering with some things and regaining feel. Also to note, this may move Thomas to the poll position. One could easily argue that Thomas pitching schedule more lines up with the opening for 5th Starter as we should see him Thursday or Friday. With Thomas still being an option, and still having plenty of Spring training left, I’m concerned but not worried.

I understand the argument for Capra, and I understand the relatively poor year last year for Mona. However, I still think that last year was his floor, and he generally puts together good at bats, and several timely hits. I think he we have not seen his full potential. I really don’t think either are superstars, I just believe Mona will have a better year. I’m probably one of the few that would vote for Mona over Capra. I would even be ok with Capra and Mona making the team and Dunn and Durbin to getting more time in AAA.

Good article, I don’t remember much about the neck injury besides inflammation. That could be so many deeper issues, but could have easily impacted a lot in the past and could easily spark up again depending on what was causing it. Do we know what was causing the inflammation?

For those in the know… does this mean anything with Made, Anderson, Pena, Corobo besides that they are stateside? Do guys in these games still typically go to ACL/extended spring training? Or do they typically try to get all their ACL guys in some of these games? Or does it imply anything that they are in the 1st lineups? Any records from last years 1st lineups?Apologies in advance for not being more educated on this aspect.

This may be a system wide type question that doesn't fit in this podcast - but I feel it echos some other questions: 1.) Where to all the 3B:1B get placed to start across AA and AAA- Especially if they pick up another 3B Free Agent? Possible AAA? Bauers can be included if he has a poor Spring Training and can't sign somewhere else. Wes Clark, Ernesto Martinez, Mike Boeve, Tyler Black, Possible Wilkens, Likely Dunn, Raynel Delgado They are all worthy of at bats in AAA except the Wilkens has not really earned it. Likely AA? Brock Wilkens, Blake Burke, Luke Adams, Eduardo Garcia, Zavier Warren 2.) Also, where do all our SS, 2B prospects in AA, AAA get split up? Zamora, Collins, Murray, Arienamo, Garcia, Dunn, Brown, Durbin, Pratt, O'Rae, Anthony Seigler. My Guess is Pratt stays in A+. But that is still a lot of players for a few positions. Yes Garcia and Collins will likely get some OF time, but dont we need to see more of what collins can do at 2B? (PS, doesn't Garcia look more in shape in Winter Ball?) 3.) How would you rank/line up your starting rotation for AAA. Who are the first 2 to get called up? 4.) System wide questions - As far as high ceiling/ - potential 1/2 starters. Who is next after Miss. If ceilings get reached on any of the AAA starters, are there any possible 1/2 starters besides Miss? Dont get me wrong, most didn't even peg Woodruff or Burnes as potential 1 or 2 - did you guys? Who might we be missing that has that possibility?

After Fall League I would put him at 19, taking Lara’s place. Also after Lara’s AFL, while not bad, I would probably inch Lara just off the list.

The Brewers have a short term surplus of 2 things: Relief arms and center fielders. Would they fit in the line-up and help the team, absolutely. But some of them have a healthy trade value, and they can take a risk on new guys. The Brewers like to make changes each year and this year will be no different as they should be hedging some risk for upside in future years. They are in need of 3B short term help and long term help in the area of SP. They could also use middle infield depth in AAA/Majors which I think they addressed in Durbin. Brandon Woodruff and Robert Gasser will all be dead money at first as I believe they will need more innings under them following up injury. That puts dead money @ 10k Brandon Woodruff, Gasser @.8k. Tyler Black deserves a spot on this roster, and should build some value if he stays. However, I dont see him making the roster unless an outfielder gets traded. My guess is that he gets traded to a team where he can plug in as DH and LF. Brewers have. a dearth of potential CF and RP. I could see them trading Perkins or Frelick. I like both of them, and I believe both have not reached their ceiling, but I believe other organizations also see this. The addition of Durbin to me makes it more likely that Frelick goes, but I think they like the fact that he could play 3B in a crunch. I have them trading Black, Perkins, Peguero, Wilkins, Uribe, & Payamps Angels: Perkins (16.5 BTV), Peguero (5.7) Wilkens (6?) Brewers: Caden Dana (22) If Angels pick up a top pitcher like Corbin Burnes, my dreams are that they would consider trading an unproven top pitching prospect. Texas Rangers: Black (12.2), Payamps (4.3) Brewers: Alejandro Rosario (13.2) While I know most organizations have top pitching prospects off limits, Angels and Texans can typically afford to buy pitchers. Rangers are very deep pitching wise in the minors with Kumar Rucker & Jack Leiter. I also consider them a top candidate for Roki Sasaki. Dodgers: Abner Uribe (7.4) Brewers: River Ryan (6.9) While I know most organizations have top pitching prospects off limits, Angels and Texans can typically afford to buy pitchers. Rangers are very deep pitching wise in the minors with Kumar Rucker & Jack Leiter. I also consider them a candidate for Roki Sasaki. As far as free agent pick-ups, I would like to see Jon Berti come in and take 3B while Durbin takes more of a utility spot. If the brewers dont like Berti, I could see them pivoting to a Donovan Solano. This would be in hopes that Wilken would have a turn around and/or Mike Boeve would be healthy and show out like I think they will. I'm hoping Boeve will get some MLB experience toward the 2nd half of the year and for a possible playoff run. Brewers currently dont have much depth at 1B or 3B with MLB experience. I think they were hoping Wes Clarke would preform better than he did last year at AAA. I'm hoping this will be a better season for him, and we are all cheering for Ernesto Martinez, but neither of those guys comes with much MLB experience in case of an injury to Hoskins. Black could be an option if not traded, but it seems like he still has a lot of growth defensively in learning 1B, and that they may have given up on that being a possibility. The other outside possibility for 3B is an old Brewer in Orlando Arcia playing 3B or at least competing for it. I just have a feeling bridges might have been burnt there, and it might not be the best for the clubhouse. He seemed like a great guy, but I think the brewers are looking for some of the younger guys to step in and be the leader in the clubhouse. I also see them adding another bottom of the rotation Starter. A guy like Cal Quantrill would be a good fit and probably come in at 1.5Mil Moving Chad Patrick back down the depth chart. I think Ashby will also compete for SP. Some have said the brewers have too many SP, but I still feel like until we see what Gasser and Woodruff have, it is way too thin. I guess I’m more of the tilt to adding another starter. I see Freddie, Civale, Cortes, Myers to start off the year. Woodruff will likely need more innings under his belt after surgery. Hall stunk as a starter. I think they still view Ashby as a starter, but would like to start him in the bullpen. So I think Hall and Ashby are going to start the year in the bullpen. I think they are looking for a cheap 5th starter lefty- maybe that is their style 5 draft pick. I was hoping they would get a couple million in international free agency money instead of just money from Yanks. I do think they still trade out of some of their bullpen talent and outfield depth for hopefully higher end pitching prospects and SS AAA prospects in case of injury. (Dodgers, Angels, Rangers have several pitching prospects that could be nice)

This should mean that they might be more willing to trade some AA or AAA pitching talent for let’s say a Devin Williams

.375/.429/.500 and his instagram shows highlights of a homerun. I’m not sure what other brewers are in winter leagues. Does anyone have information or a Forum on this? Carlos seemed to end the year struggling a little bit in AAA after showing tiny hints of power in AA that he hadn’t previously showcased. He could surprisingly turn into the top AAA backup for the Brewers in the OF.next year if he remains with the Brewers. If not drafted as Rule 5 he is surely increasing his trade value.

Seeing the Venezuelan Winter League has started and Carlos Rodriguez is following up his past years performance with another hot start.
