  1. I keep refreshing this page and twitter to see if/when the other shoe drops. I won't believe this trade until the Brewers officially announce it.
  2. As I said it balances on Baseball Trade Values so I wouldn't say it is Crazy.
  3. 1) I believe that the Brewers as currently constructed will be a winning team but not one that truly is a World Series contender. 2) I don't believe the Brewers have the financial wherewithal to add the necessary pieces to become a true title contender. This will only get worse in 2024. 3) The Brewers do have a few cornerstone type players that if supplemented with a couple more could be part of a team with a playoff window 2024-2028. 4) The Dodgers have a need at SS and the Rotation and have to be feeling the heat to keep up with SF and SD (as well as the Mets and Phillies). So I propose a trade that resets the Franchise to really compete in the very near future. 5) In conjunction with this Trade I would extend Woodruff (5yr - $100 million) which the Brewers could easily live with after moving the other pieces below. Dogers Get: Corbin Burnes, Willy Adames, Tyler Black & Esteury Ruiz Brewers Get: Diego Cartaya - C - Top 10 Prospect and cornerstone player Bobby Miller - RHP - Top 30 Prospect and cornerstone player Gavin Lux - 2b/3B - Would also except Michael Busch a Top 50 2B/OF prospect instead Ryan Prepiot - RHP - Top 100 Prospect with some MLB success under his belt Maddox Bruns - LHP - Dodgers 2021 1st Rd pick Nick Nastrini - RHP - Dodgers 2021 4th Rd Pick The trade values match closely via Baseball Trade Values. Adding the above talent to Woodruff, Peralta, Ashby, Chourio, Freelick, Weimer, Turang & Mitchell should open a nice competitive window that leaves the Brewers with some financial flexibility (especially in the 2024-26 years) to fill out the roster.
  4. How about Eric Lauer and Garrett Mitchell for Arraez.
  5. Actually if Middleton opts out (likely as he will want a longer term contract) the bucks will have some cap space about ($12-$15)to sign a free agent and then they can resign their own players (Middleton, Lopez).
  6. Call them all up to join Gallardo and Greinike to form the "G Men". I can see it on a t-shirt now.
  7. You do realize that Wolf's 2010 numbers are skewed by the one start in Pittsburgh last year where he sucked it up and was left in for 5.2 IP while giving up 12 Earned Runs. Remove that start and he still pitches 210 IP with an ERA of 3.77. That is better than Gallardo and Greinike last year and worthy of the contract he was given. He also had 20 quality starts in '10. Amoung those with less than 20 QS: MarkBuehrle, Cliff Lee, Matt Garza, Johan Santana, Yovani Gallardo, Tommy Hanson & Johnny Cueto. QS is not a great stat but it does give you an idea of how often a pitcher gives his team a chance to win. While Wolf is not great he is much better than Suppan ever was and I am not worried about the contract he was given.
  8. Butler wasn't a consideration for my top ten but I would lump him in with C.Cody, M.Jones and T.Dillard as guys who could make it to the show and hang around for a few years, but not someone to get exited about. In the not to distant past though a guy like Butler would have been in most people's top ten list.
  9. Many of you are like me and have been following the Brewer's minor league system for quite a while. Has there ever been a time when the organization has had as many exiting arms (raw as some may be) as they do now (I include Arnett & Heckathorn)? Here is my top ten: 1) J.Jeffress 2) C.Scarpetta 3) Z.Bradock 4) E.Arnett 5) K.Heckathorn 6) E.Anundson 7) J.Odorizzi 8) E.Fredrickson 9) W.Peralta 10)S.Lintz That leaves out some pretty good arms/prospects (Rodgers, Wooten, Periard, Seidel, Mercedes, etc...). Sadly they are all below AA which means they won't help this year or next (unless they are used in trades). I know it takes about 5 prospects to graduate 1 Major League arm but still... Could the organization be on the cusp of repeating the success it had in the mid '80's to early 90's when they drafted/developed: T.Higuera C.Eldred J.Navarro C.Bosio D.Plesac D.August D.Henry C.Crim J.Nieves B.Wegman
  10. I'll play along, with an extra pick just for good measure. 1) E. Arnett RHP - College (Probably a dream, I also like C.Jenkins, G.Gould and T.Skaggs) 1s)K.Sampson RHP HS 1s)M.Krauss 3b/OF - College (I love power bats, and power arms. I thought I was the only one looking at him. Nice to see X ellance also on board) 2) J.Marks LHP - College 2) J.Phlegley C - College 3) B. Paulsen 1b - College 4)D.McCallum 2b - College (not a need but I like him) I am not a "college guy" it just worked out that I have 6 of the 7 picks coming from the college ranks.
  11. When can I get a T-shirt with the new Graphic??
  12. A few thoughts on the high number of HS picks: - Isn't the premise of "Moneyball" that you go after undervalued talent (not just college players). I would contend that HS talent is now an undervalued commodity. - As has been noted, there will probably be 15-20 DFE candidates from this draft. That really skews the numbers, as I would imagine 7-10 of these will sign next spring. If you move 10 HS picks over to the JUCO ledger, that means the Brewers drafted 60% college & JUCO players. - As has been noted in other threads, the Brewers will have some serious decisions regarding the 40 man roster and Rule 5 over the next couple of years. Drafting so many HS, especially in the early rounds, doesn't add to that pressue immediately.
  13. Maybe the Brewers just want to keep Hall on Toby's P50 list a little longer. He is getting close to having to many ML AB's.
  14. Wow, how cool would that be. An early glimpse of what's to come. By the way, did anyone notice that with Manny P. pitching today, if he goes again in five days (regardless of schedule), that would mean he pitches on Saturday the 9th, and then another 5 days puts him on the mound on the 14th.
  15. Unlike most of the posters so far I like the move. Yes DJ Clark is getting shafted but he is never going to be more than a 4th (probably 5th) OF at the ML level anyways. Getting Nelson out of what will be an absolutely horrible team situation in HD and exposing him to a winning atmosphere is reason enough for the move. Getting him a 125 AB's at AA will give him a nice headstart for next year when he is back at AA. (remember this is what was done with Hardy, Hart and Krynzel). Also this means he can be sent to the AZ Fall League without using the Brewers one exception for players under AA at 8/1. That exception can now be used on a player like Gwynn, Fielder, Parra or Sarfate.
  16. At what point do we give up the thought of signing Weeks to a 2003 contract? Considering it would take 7 - 10 days after the signing for him to see any game action, I would say the window for a 2003 contract is starting to close.
  17. Under those criteria who do you think will be the 6? My guess Brad Nelson Enrique Cruz - shake off serious rust Ben Hendrickson - make up for some lost time Ben Diggins - assuming good health Kade Johnson - take advantage of his good health M.Adams - work on being a starter Others for consideration: C.Hart - would need to split time with Cruz at 3b or play OF J. Belcher - if promoted in time R.Weeks - if signed in time, would depend on Nelson also since he will not be playing in AA berfore the end of the month.
  18. Does anyone know what the opposing SB/CS numbers are for Sweet Lou Palmisano? Seems like everytime I look at the boxscore he has thrown someone out (like last night).
  19. Could someone explain to me the pros and cons of signing a player to a Major League contract vs. a Minor League one? Also what about the timming of the signing i.e if it occurs in September it would be for 2004 right? Obviously I have Rickie Weeks in mind.
