  1. The overall results of this game take a back burner to the post-game status of Loons starting RHP Patrick Copen. Copen took an absolutely smoked inside out line drive off the bat of SS Cooper Pratt off his face to begin the top of the third inning . Copen just couldn't get his glove up in time and he immediately fell to the mound in pain as you can imagine. This led to a 21 minute delay with both training staffs and paramedics tending to the young man. Copen ultimately left on stretcher and in a neck brace. All our thoughts are with this young man as it was a truly scary moment. We can only hope and pray for the best here. Confirmation surgery was necessary It's likely the Loons broadcast will provide further updates tonight, crossing fingers.

  4. So much goodness here, but the take on Eric Bitonti may be my favorite. Misiorowski kicks things off at 43.
  5. In 2024, Chirino has made 30 appearances with Triple-A Nashville.

  7. For Wednesday AM's Link Report: Final: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 12, DSL Cubs Red 5 Box Score and Game Log The penultimate game for the DSL Uno men saw them move their record to 31-23, not quite in the playoff position envisioned just a week ago, but still more than respectable. A thrashing of a weak Cubs entity (18-35) added to Monday's fun. Twelve runs on just seven hits (four for extra bases) for Team Prime, as the Chicago pitchers walked ten and plunked two others. 17-year-old RF Handelfry Encarnacion had a remarkable game, scoring five runs despite just one official at-bat. In that AB, the LH-hitting Encarnacion clubbed his 2nd home run to center field. He was also the victim of both HBP's and walked twice. The fact Encarnacion crossed the plate five times reflects that these Cerveceros scored in six of their eight innings as the home team. Let's give credit to those behind him in the lineup for plating him consistently. Speaking of players who scored each time they reached, studly SS Jesus Made homered (his 6th), doubled and walked, and stole his 28th base. We'll await Tuesday's finale for his 2024 swan song on a glorious season. Barring a surprise in Tuesday's season finale, it appears as though injury ended 17-year-old infielder Luis Pena's season with a .393/.457/.583 line, 39-of-43 in SB attempts. Pena last played on August 12th. Fellow 17-year-old Jose Anderson last saw action August 10th, Anderson's 20 XBH's, including 8 HR's, had him enjoy his debut campaign. 18-year-old Venezuelan RHP Gabriel Colmenarez allowed just four hits in four scoreless innings (no walks, five K's). The zero walks are big for Colmenarez as he wraps up his second DSL season. Final: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 9, DSL Royals Fortuna 3 Box Score and Game Log Actually, with a record percentage points better than their Brewers #1 brethren, Team Dos moved to 30-22 with this win. A 5-3 lead on the road exploded with a four-run 9th to break things open. These youngsters reached base 19 times - ten hits (four for extra bases), five walks, and four HBP's. Add on eight stolen bases (only 17-year-old catcher Yoneiker Lugo had a rough day on the bases, only slightly offsetting his double, single, and three RBI). Lugo lit up the box score from every angle, with a catcher's interference and passed ball as well. Wonderful five-inning start for 17-year-old RHP Lonell Downs, now sporting a 1.23 WHIP. Downs is another of the arms out of Nicaragua, where the Brewers have lapped the rest of MLB in blanket coverage and signings of very encouraging pitchers. For additional insights on both of Monday's DSL games, check out comments made in our daily "as it happened" thread.

  12. Biloxi Press Release: NICK MERKEL NAMED SOUTHERN LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE WEEK Shuckers righty struck out 8 over 5.2 no-hit innings in series against M-Braves BILOXI, MS – Minor League Baseball announced today that Biloxi Shuckers’ reliever Nick Merkel was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 12-18, 2024. It marks Merkel’s first career weekly honor and the fifth time a Shuckers’ pitcher has been awarded the Southern League’s Pitcher of the Week award. Merkel joins Bradley Blalock (7/8) and Jacob Misiorowski (4/29, 6/24, 7/15) as the third Shuckers’ pitcher to earn the award this season. Over 5.2 shutout innings in two appearances during the Shuckers’ series against the Mississippi Braves, Merkel struck out 8, walked 2 and did not allow a hit. During his two appearances, Merkel also induced 16 whiffs and held a 44% Called Strike Plus Whiff percentage (CSW%). Merkel, 26, has a 3.30 ERA and 73 strikeouts over 34 appearances and 62.2 innings with the Shuckers in 2024. Merkel was previously signed by the Brewers in 2022 as a Free Agent from the Missoula Paddleheads of the Pioneer League.
  13. As has been the case in the past, there will not be a formal Link Report Tuesday AM for just the two Monday DSL games. I will post Link Report "copy and paste-worthy" game reports in this thread tonight that will be incorporated by Joseph into Wednesday AM's Link Report. However, if anyone wishes to comment on the two games in advance, please do, as I likely will take your insights into account when typing this evening.

Sunday 8/18: Postgame shows after the 2-0 sweep-clinching win over Cleveland - Via WTMJ: Dom Cotroneo hosts Via 97.3's "Baseball Postgame Show" - Tim Allen hosts Locked on Brewers with Chuck Freimund - "Why Aren't the Brewers Considered Among MLB's Best Teams?" Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast w/JR Radcliffe and Curt Hogg: "The Brewers are once again red-hot with five straight wins (all against first-place teams) after starting the week 0-2. The National League Central is almost surely theirs, but they also know Christian Yelich will be out for the rest of the year. That hasn't impacted them dramatically yet, but will it? Willy Adames is feeling it with the bat, but it's been a strange year on defense. William Contreras is back to mashing, Tobias Myers and Colin Rea continue to be for real, and can the team do anything to address its sudden weakness ... the outfield? Can this team really hang with the Dodgers if they meet again in October? Three Up Three Down discusses an amazing week for Devin Williams and the confusion around "blocking the plate." Remembrew When also goes back to a Robin Yount highlight, which is fitting with Yount getting honored at American Family Field on Sunday. Curt Blanche examines a play that often gets maligned, perhaps incorrectly. Then, JR sits down with Devin Williams, the Brewers closer who has made a triumphant return from a back injury. They discuss the moment he almost gave his heart to soccer instead of baseball, his trophies and what has to happen for this year to be different in the postseason." Latest Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast - "On this episode of The Tailgate, Jaymes, Paul, and Steve discuss Willy's diminished defense, Turang v. Frelick on offense, and more positive things, including how the bullpen could very well carry them through the playoffs, especially after seeing the team split with the Dodgers and win the series against Cleveland."

  17. Did you catch what I did with the headline? Please score deserving KC Hunt a run, Shuckers, more details on that below. The Timber Rattlers produced the only win west of the Dominican Republic, but heck, they were given two chances. Regardless, any day on the Brewers farm is a good day at BrewerFanatic, because we enjoy tracking the exploits win or lose. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Let's roll! Transactions: - LHP Brian Fitzpatrick placed on High-A Wisconsin’s 7-day injured list In his most recent 29.1 innings going back to June 29th, the 6'7" 24-year-old southpaw has allowed only three earned runs, with 33 K's vs. 7 BB's (2 HBP's). Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Durham (Rays) 7, Nashville 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: First Inning Dooms Nashville in Loss to Durham - Wes Clarke hit two-run home run, Craig Yoho extends scoreless streak in 7-4 defeat The Brewers and Sounds need the collective set of arms to soak up innings. From veteran soon-to-be minor league free agents to prized prospects, it's a team effort. RHP Mitch White didn't do his part Saturday, although he likely would have pitched beyond the first frame if the first batter of the game didn't reach on a throwing error by third baseman Isaac Collins. RHP's Craig Yoho and Ryan Middendorf wouldn't have ordinarily pitched in a game in which the Sounds trailed by a healthy margin throughout. Speaking of Yoho: There's really only one realistic path for Wes Clarke to have a big-league future role, and that is to mash LH pitching. Fo 2024, he's at .275/.386/.565 (.951 OPS). Clarke faced nothing but RHP here, but clubbed home run #11 and singled. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Mississippi (Braves) 3, Biloxi 2 Box Score and Game Log Hunt Strikes Out Eight, Shuckers Drop One-Run Game to M-Braves - Former Mississippi State Bulldog makes return to Biloxi, bullpen combines for 3.2 no-hit innings It saddens me that the Shuckers dropped this one as the "Beach Chickens". That identity shouldn't ever be associated with a loss. I kicked off our daily forum thread Saturday AM with a bit of video fun, and now send a shout out to Voice of the Shuckers Javik Blake for the "Sunshine Band" reference, even though the band (still touring), was more relatable to Javik's grandparents - This was RHP KC Hunt's second Biloxi start, and first at home. His teammates have not scored while Hunt is on the mound in each game (Hunt was saddled with a 1-0 loss a week ago). Earlier this week, our @Joseph Zarr extolled the "Large Mammal" Nick Merkel with this post. Add to that post from this game, strand two of Hunt's inherited runners, eight up, eight down. The dude is on fire. Are we back on Mike Boeve watch? He grounded out in the 5th inning Thursday, immediately exited, and has not played since. With Monday's day off, it'd be a surprise if we see Boeve Sunday. Adam Hall has been solid since his May 31st signing. Hall has only played in one game since August 8th, no injury stint as of yet. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final, Game One: Wisconsin 8, Peoria (Cardinals) 1, completion of Friday's suspended game Box Score and Game Log Garcia Delivers Three RBI in Rattlers Win - Wisconsin beats Chiefs in conclusion of Friday’s suspended game You folks know the drill, read the Mighty Mehring game summary, then grab some popcorn and enjoy - Final, Game Two: Peoria 5, Wisconsin 2, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Peoria Earns Saturday Split with Comeback Win - Rattlers drop 5-2 decision after taking early 2-0 lead Just me, or are the "Yooper" pants tight for all? Skinny jeans 😀 Blake Burke was pinch-hit for in the 6th inning of a then 1-0 Game One, against a RHP, and did not play in Game Two. With a very deep position player bench and two varied lineups, no Rattlers player had a base hit in each contest, for those of you into box score comparisons. Game One trophy to catcher Matt Wood, triple, single, two walks in the victorious opener. He also threw out the lone attempting basestealer. Final: Delmarva (Orioles) 9, Carolina 3 Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Drop Contest To Shorebirds We have one video clip of note: Hunting for positives in an otherwise very rough box score? How about three outfield assists, two by young Yophery. Sixty-seven games at catcher for 24-year-old staff-stabilizing David Garcia in 2024, and only four errors entering Saturday, but three more (all throwing) in this game brings the total to seven. A reminder the Mudcats are 66-45, it's been a very good season-to-date. Final: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 4. DSL Pirates Gold 2 Box Score and Game Log The 29-22 Team Dos kids get a measure of revenge on the sparkly Pirates after a Friday loss. A couple of teenage Dominican RHP's, Christopher Peralta (yes, Freddy's cousin) and Wandy Cabrera, weren't flashing strikeout stuff, but they combined for seven innings of scoreless two-hit ball, 1 BB, 3 HBP, 1 K. The Cerveceros held on despite four errors, all the more reason to praise the arms for the extra duress. Just three singles for the Crew, but seven walks drawn. Four games on the farm today, and except for catching Trevor Megill and Enoli Paredes at a traditional start time of 1:10 Central in Appleton, the other contests are all late afternoon gametimes.
