  1. Via the "Brewers Babes" Podcast (NSFW, occasional language): "In this episode the Babes say "I told you so" about not panicking and Erin's jinx energy is cured by declaring it Opposite Day. We talk about the hot hitting in the Braves series, and the incredible closing pitching against the Dodgers. We also talk about haunted hotels, the possibility of a 6-inning minimum for starting pitchers, Lisa talks about dealing with toxic culture in baseball, and we both highlight some more rookies who are playing great baseball."

  4. In those games that were played to completion, the Brewers affiliates lost five games by a combined ten runs. If we move off the island games, Nashville, Biloxi, and Carolina lost by a combined 10-6 score. Doesn't offense normally come alive in the August dog days? We'll identify the positives where we can. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Let's begin our trip, dour results be damned, around the Brewers' farm universe! Transactions: RHP Enoli Paredes sent on rehab assignment to High-A Wisconsin RHP Craig Yoho activated by AAA Nashville from temporarily inactive list (congrats to the newly-expanded Yoho family!) RHP Blake Holub transferred to AA Biloxi from AAA Nashville Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes - Unavailable for this date Final: Durham (Rays) 3, Nashville 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Rodriguez, Sounds Edged by Bulls - Nashville Drops Game 4 Despite Another Quality Start As that game summary explained, RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez did not allow a hit through five innings. Rodriguez' numbers will not necessarily be pretty at season's end, evidenced by his current 4.74 ERA. His season-to-date WHIP of 1.25 is reasonable, and we're heartened by his recent work. Here's how that WHIP has fluctuated in what's been an inconsistent 2024, number of starts or long-relief appearances in parentheses: March (1): 2.67 April (5): 1.70 May (5): 0.94 June (5) 1.52 July (4): 1.26 August (3): 0.92 For this road game, highlights are limited, so we don't see Carlos dazzle early, but this pitch didn't hit its mark in the 6th: The game ended on this note: Speaking of Carlos Rodriguez, the middle initial D version singled twice, walked, and drove in his first AAA run. Game was over in a tidy 2:17. On a Friday night, with kids in tow, that's a short night. Factor families getting to the park early if possible, and that's still kind of a solid night at the ballpark. A 2:35 - 2:45 length would seem to be a fan's "get your money's worth" sweet spot. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Mississippi (Braves) 2, Biloxi 0 Box Score and Game Log Shuckers Pitching Staff Continues Strong Form in Shutout Loss to M-Braves - Bullpen combines for 4.0 shutout innings, Kuehner works into sixth for second time in three starts Just in this month of August alone, the Shuckers have lost by a 1-0 score three times, and tack on this 2-0 defeat Friday. Be sure to take in, recorded late last week: Via the "Brew Crew Scoop" Podcast: "The bulk of this episode was our interview with Javik Blake (20:30 minute mark), the voice of the AA Biloxi Shuckers. We talked about all the guys you want to hear about that have worn the Shuckers uniform in 2024!" The box score lines for starting LHP Tate Kuehner, southpaw Russell Smith, and RHP Will Childers are all pretty. Our one and only highlight features Smith, who has blossomed in his bullpen role: Darrien Miller was hit by two more pitches, because, Darrien Miller :). Brock Wilken was the DH here and he singled twice, very much needed on his personal level. Ground ball base hit to right in the 6th, line drive to left in the 8th. Here's to a big turnaround beginning as of those two AB's. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Suspended after four innings: Wisconsin 1, Peoria (Cardinals) 0 Box Score and Game Log (Thus Far) Rain halts play with Rattlers leading Chiefs 1-0 after four innings - Milwaukee Brewers announce Trevor Megill and Enoli Paredes rehab assignments for Sunday afternoon This is how you thank a rehabbing big leaguer for the clubhouse spread (which have been frequent in Appleton): There are currently 16 healthy position players on the T-Rats squad. Luis Lara was the most prominent of the seven bench bats for this one. Good thing for all the rehabbers as only 12 arms on the roster as of today. Final: Delmarva (Orioles) 5, Carolina 4, 11 innings Box Score and Game Log Shorebirds Beat Mudcats in Extras Line drive in the box score - Things were looking good as the Shorebirds Manfred Man was eliminated quickly via a 7-6-5 line out double play. But then RHP Dikember Sanchez, who has earned these trusted innings with his fine work, walked two batters before this: The Mudcats top of the 11th was very sad. Their own ghost runner advanced to third base on a wild pitch so the go-ahead run was 90 feet away with no outs, and the top of the order prized bats were due up. Yophery Rodriguez and Juan Baez were each retired on infield popouts, and Reidy Mercado grounded out (Mercado had pinch-run for Eric Bitonti in the 10th). Adding to the pain, this is how the game ended, on the very first play in the bottom of the frame: I guess the faulty camera work spared us a bit of grief, but still, a very tough loss. Thank you, first-half division title! But for good news, let's circle back to the early innings, as RHP Josh Knoth, now a grizzled 19-year-old, had a much-welcome 5.2 inning, 83-pitch scoreless effort (2 BB, 1 HBP, 7 K). Sweet! Final: DSL Orioles Black 4, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 0, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Just four lonely singles for suddenly struggling Team Uno, with the usual star left side of the infield, Jesus Made and Luis Pena, on the bench for this one. Center fielder Jose Anderson remains sidelined since August 10th, when he made his lone appearance for Team Uno after his transfer from Team Dos. Game was scoreless through six, as 17-year-old Dominican native RHP Dariel Jaquez again pitched well (1 H, 2 BB, 4 K) in his four innings. The game log will show you how the top of the 7th went sideways against 17-year-old Panamanian RHP Lukas Gonzalez in his third inning of work. Final: DSL Pirates Gold 5, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 3 Box Score and Game Log Our own @Joseph Zarr reviewed the early innings of this one, and made some player analysis comments, within our daily forum thread here. Down 5-2 through six, the Cerveceros scored a 9th inning run without the benefit of a base hit for the final score. We should continue to be encouraged by top 2024 bonus baby infielder Jorge Quintana, who reached another three times (two singles, HBP, 19th steal in 30 tries). That's a ten-game hit streak, a .958 OPS in August, and only seven K's in 40 at-bats this month. Only one DSL game on tap Saturday morning, and then we'll have the results of five full-season affiliated games on Sunday morning for you, including two full-game video packages out of Appleton. KC Hunt (Biloxi) and Bishop Letson (Carolina) are among those toeing the slab. Enjoy your summer Saturday, all! 11. In December of 2013, I made the initial post in this "TV treasures who are still with us" thread. We lost Peter Marshall of Hollywood Squares fame this week at age 98. In that initial linked post, I placed in bold 28 names when I wrote it. Almost 11 years later, only three of the 28 survive. Not a surprise, since most were already 90 or older back in 2013. Without posting here and doing a quick Google/Wikipedia search, see if you can quickly identify the three. I'm on the youngest edge of the Baby Boomer generation, so for me, it's thanks for the memories to all.

  18. Final: DSL Reds (Rojos) 3, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 1 Box Score and Game Log Oh, what a tough loss given the pitching Team Uno received from 17-year-old Panamanian starting RHP Manuel Moreno, who has posted a 1.00 WHIP in his first 33 pro innings. It just seems as though the Brewers hit more often than not on pitchers from what we may call outlier locales (Panama, Mexico, Nicaragua, etc.). LHP Idalberto Santiesteban and RHP Gabriel Colmenarez will be great Wheel of Fortune puzzle answers someday. They each tossed a scoreless inning of relief, before Colmenarez retired the first two men in the bottom of the 8th. Then this happened: - Walk - Infield Single - Triple to surrender the 1-0 lead that was grabbed in the 7th - Single for the 3-1 score - Double which did not drive in a run - Pop-out finally ends the inning But let's agree the usually vaunted Prime Brewers lineup did not come through, partly because Luis Pena exited mid-game from the DH spot, and recently-transferred from Brewers #2 OF Jose Anderson was idle, apparently dealing with HBP issues from earlier in the week. That being said, c'mon men: Team RISP: 2-for-12. Team LOB: 8. Neither of those two RISP hits drove in a run, the only Cerveceros run scored on a GIDP. Final: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 5, DSL Red Sox Blue 4 Box Score and Game Log It's a walkoff, baby! Each team managed only five hits, but it was over quickly in the bottom of the 9th at the Brewers' new complex. Second baseman Moises Polanco, a young 17 years old (18 next May), led off with a single. We likely have not mentioned Polanco often enough, so we'll make up for it here. Polanco reached base four times from the leadoff spot (single, two walks, HBP) to lift his OBP for the season to .411 along with 20 steals in 25 tries. Big-money bonus signee Jorge Quintana then hit a line drive double to center field (as a LH batter, switch-hitter) to end matters. Nice to see Team Dos keep their heads up and it's a spin of results between the two squads management wasn't likely anticipating. This win placed Team Dos at 26-21, hardly a troubling record at all. We'll give the pitching game ball to 18-year-old Venezuelan RHP Francisco Guevara; check out his game logs to see how his current 12.10 ERA is leaps and bounds lower than his start to the season. The young man can enter the winter feeling better about progress, since he began his season surrendering eight runs over his first two outings before he retired a batter and moved away from his infinity ERA at the time.
  19. Keep in mind that he is now on the Temporary Inactive List, not Development. Temporary Inactive (possibly a funeral or other family matter, or any other personal reason necessitating time away)
  20. Carolina Press Release: Roster Update: Birchard to Wisconsin; Reyes to 7-day IL; Broca added from ACL Brewers ZEBULON – The Milwaukee Brewers recently announced a series roster transactions affecting the Carolina Mudcats active roster. The announced moves include promotion of RHP Ryan Birchard from the Mudcats to A+ Wisconsin, LHP Anfernny Reyes placed on the 7-day IL and the addition of LHP Jesus Broca from the Arizona Complex League Brewers to the Mudcats. The Carolina Mudcats roster is currently at 29 active players and 7 on the injured list. In summary: 8/13: RHP Ryan Birchard transferred from Carolina to A+ Wisconsin 8/13: LHP Anfernny Reyes placed on the 7-day IL as of 8/12 8/13: LHP Jesus Broca added to Carolina from ACL Brewers Broca will wear #26
