Sunday 6/4:Latest Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast - "This week JR Radcliffe joined Jaymes and Ryan to discuss the seemingly endless string of injuries facing the team, the various pop up surprise performances that are keeping them in it and how all of this bodes for the future. The guys also talked hometowns, internet connections and potatoes." Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "The Brewers belong to Andruw Monasterio now. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe look at the remarkable week for the newcomer infielder and a Reds series that has breathed new life into the Brewers. Is the continued success of Adrian Houser for real? What about Julio Teheran? The Pittsburgh Pirates? Plus: Corbin Burnes' struggles call for a deeper dive, the amazing story of Jon Singleton, an enigmatic bullpen, a great week for Joey Wiemer and Remembrew When commemorating another first home run/grand slam ... igniting a debate between Curt and JR. Then, JR is joined by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel business reporter Tom Daykin to take a deeper (and hopefully easy-to-understand) look at the Brewers stadium financing situation, one that received more attention with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred in town last week. They talk about all the different political angles, the financial realities and whether or not the Brewers are truly in danger of leaving town after 2030." . -

LHP Russell Smith is the most recent addition to the Biloxi pre-game audio site. FYI - Check out who was taken two picks after Smith in the 2nd round of the 2021 draft. He's another LHP, and he's facing the Brewers in Cincinnati today as a Top 100 MLB prospect.

I am blown away by the work of our BrewerFanatic contributor Spencer Michaelis, it's clear he has actual eyes on so many of the Brewers affiliate telecasts, and his insights shine through in these articles on a wide variety of prospects. Be sure you find time to read each of these pieces this week: Brewers Minor League Hitter of the Month - May 2023 Brewers Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Month - May 2023 Brewers Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Month - May 2023 Of course, also ready today's Link Report. Here we go! Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic TRANSACTIONS: - 1B Jon Singleton’s contract selected by MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville (replacing injured Darin Ruf)- OF Blake Perkins recalled to MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville (replacing injured Tyrone Taylor)- OF Monte Harrison activated by AAA Nashville from Development List - RHP Patricio Aquino activated from Low-A Carolina’s 7-day injured list- LHP Nate Peterson placed on Low-A Carolina’s 7-day injured list Final: Nashville 5, Charlotte (White Sox) 3 Via the Sounds' site, we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of your season-long Link Report routine: Jackson, Sounds Power Past Knights - Jackson’s Homers and Ninth-Inning Rally Lead Nashville in Charlotte Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Game Log Barring injury, it's unlikely the Brewers are making big-league changes behind the plate, but there are options should they need to: Only one strikeout from Janson Junk in his effective 6.1 innings and 90 pitches, and his 33 K's in 52.2 innings this year is a real eye-opener, not that Junk's prior career figures say otherwise. Not sure how many Brewers fans saw reliever Elvis Peguero as the headliner in the Hunter Renfroe deal, but that is the case, and Peguero looks to be a valuable member of the Crew's pen for the next half-decade or so. Rehabber Luis Urias sat this one out, having played each of the past four days. Expect this to change as soon as Monday when either or both of Willy Adames and Urias return to "the Show". When you look at tonight's Nashville box (and congrats again on the win!), that's about as AAA a AAA lineup as you'll see. Quoting the ultimate sitcom, "not that there's anything wrong with that". We're watching a bit of a breakout for 2023 trade acquisition infielder Patrick Dorrian. Milwaukee has his rights through 2024, so if he continues on his trajectory, the soon-to-be 27-year-old could play a factor on the big- league club in the future. Final: Pensacola (Marlins) 11, Biloxi 2 Via the Shuckers' site: Shuckers Fall to Blue Wahoos, 11-2, at MGM Park - Tristen Lutz tallies Shuckers’ first inside-the-park home run since 2018 in the loss Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Game Log It's tough to net a clean sweep on the farm. Example here. For those of you who immediately flip to the "how did Jackson Chourio do?" portion of our daily report, sorry to report he was 0-for-5, scoring a run only after reaching on an error. That was followed by a K (swinging), a GIDP, a foul out to RF, and a flyout to RF to end the game. OPS now at .713. Having turned 23 years old last month, we are seeing a Patrick Dorrian-esque type of season (see, that's a tie-in) from infielder Ethan Murray, the 2021 5th round pick out of Duke. His 94-game stint in Wisconsin last summer left a lot to be desired (.625 OPS), but he's flashed his steady glove and now the bat is impressing. Despite the loss, there are a few videos out of Biloxi (yes, the inside-the-parker), including Murray here: Freddy Zamora last played on Wednesday, Tyler Black on Thursday. Pre-game interviews continue - Manager Mike Guerrero's Friday chat is here and look for LHP Russ Smith by this afternoon. Final: Wisconsin 4, Peoria 2 Via the Timber Rattlers' site: Woessner Wows for Wisconsin Win - Rattlers starter tosses six scoreless innings to earn fifth victory of 2023 Pre-Game Media Notes (Download Link) via the team's Virtual Press Box Box Score / Game Log I was going to use the "W" alliteration you see above for today's Link Report title, but Voice of the Rattlers Chris Mehring beat me to it. What a supremely effective All-Star campaign it's been for 23-year-old Tyler Woessner, and we'll remind you of how to pronounce his last name by having you watch the game's video highlights (not that you weren't going to): Look at that jersey, glorious! Team auction ends this evening. Via our forum, here's the lowdown on why Eric Brown Jr. left early, appears to be a combination of circumstances. Very cool when it initially seemed Willy was only going to work out with the club: By the way, Peoria's parent club St. Louis Cardinals have the worst record in the National League as of this morning. Yes, I see you all smiling. Final: Carolina 7, Lynchburg (Guardians) 1 Streaking Mudcats Win Seventh Straight 7-1 - The first-place Mudcats won their seventh straight while scoring seven runs on nine singles in Lynchburg Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Game Log Mudcats > Hillcats (again) If you were wondering, the Down East Wood Ducks and Carolina will not face each other before the end of the season's first half, which we have confirmed is Thursday June 22nd (second half begins the next day). The Muddies margin of error remains razor-thin with their one-half game lead. The Brewers' utilization of very young starting pitchers and slightly older relief pitchers at the low-A level is not new, and it is manifesting itself nicely again in 2023. Fantastic work by RHP's Patricio Aquino, Chase Costello and Jeferson Figueroa here. 18-year-old switch-hitting CF Luis Lara reached base four times, stole his 8th base (in 12 tries), and Brewers fans may be enjoying this smile for the next 15 years or so. Monday brings the start of the complex league seasons (two teams in the Dominican, one in Maryvale). That means Tuesday AM Link Reports for the first time this season. We hope to be up to the challenge of bringing you game recaps on as many as seven games a day moving forward, but please understand if we cut things short a bit overall in order to report on the full system. It's a time-consuming daily challenge, but we are aware many of you are very appreciative. Thanks, and enjoy your Sunday! 2023 Minor League Transaction Thread
Jim Goulart replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Gateway Grizzlies Sam Gardner Press Release - Flashing a fastball that sat around 95 miles per hour... -
Three wins among the Crew's four affiliate games Friday night, and where there wasn't a win, there was "big" transaction news (as in large LH slugger news). Let's get right to the proceedings! Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic TRANSACTIONS: Really happy about this, both from Jon's personal perspective and the big league's offensive upgrade in the DH spot (will become official when the Brewers announce it today): Might Singleton have a Nashville partner with him in Cincinnati this weekend? As the Brewers begin to set up their Dominican and Maryvale rosters for Monday's respective Opening Day's, our season-long Minor League Transaction thread details a large number of moves in a series of five posts beginning here. Please review. Final: Charlotte (White Sox) 4, Nashville 3 Via the Sounds' site, we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of your season-long Link Report routine: Sounds Fall to Knights in Extras - Nashville Loses in Charlotte Despite Great Start by Pannone Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Game Log Normally one wouldn't pull first baseman Jon Singleton in the 10th inning, but clearly, he was given good news (and airline instructions). Ironically, Singleton's last action on offense was getting caught stealing 3rd base for the final out in the 8th -- not sure if he was trying to advance on a ball that got away from the catcher. Unfortunately, LHP Ethan Small's poor outing hovers over wonderful work from veteran southpaw starter Thomas Pannone. This Small pitch drifted back to the middle of the plate: Tyler Naquin has a double, two singles and a walk in his first two games back from the IL, though he was ejected after being called out on strikes in the 9th. Somehow, RHP Tyson Miller's recent struggles extended into the dugout, as he was tossed at the same time though not appearing in this game. The rust on Luis Urias is thick, thick, thick. He was 0-for-5 with three K's here, and his eight-game OPS is .383. Good to get it out of his system, we guess. In the meantime, yay Andruw Monasterio, who is knocking his own opportunity on its heels, looking all the bit a big leaguer with no worries. Voice of the Sounds Jeff Hem's visit on Nashville radio can be found at the 27:00-minute mark below. Plenty of specific player discussion within: Final: Biloxi 10, Pensacola (Marlins) 7 Via the Shuckers' site: Five-Run Fifth Leads to 10-7 Shuckers Win over Pensacola - Biloxi comes back from down 6-1 to tie series with Blue Wahoos Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Game Log Rickie Weeks is the the latest Biloxi pre-game guest, given his player development role in the organization. One would figure that 17 total runs (thankfully ten on offense) would lead to multiple video highlights, so before we even dig into the game nuggets, feel free to gobble up the sights via the Shuckers Twitter Media feed. Completely understand focusing on the positive, but unless you reviewed the box score, you wouldn't realize this was the roughest of RHP Carlos Rodriguez' ten starts in 2023 (kudos to recently turned 25-year-old RHP TJ Shook for the very well-earned win with his middle inning bravioso performance. We'll overlook there's no "J" in Franklin Todd Shook's name, but that's a question for Javik Blake to ask in a future pre-game interview. Jackson Chourio got to face rehabbing Marlins LH closer AJ Puk (that's Andrew Jacob, by the way). Puk's inning started with a line drive single by Isaac Collins (kudos), and then Chourio grounded a single to left, scooting Collins to 3rd base. Puk then picked off Chourio who was caught stealing second base. A taste of the big-leagues, young Jackson... Contributions from many within that box score, solid win minus Rodriguez' outlier start. Working out in Appleton before driving to Milwaukee for the Orioles' series this week - we don't have to explain why the mask is on, right? Final: Wisconsin 8, Peoria 2 Via the Timber Rattlers' site: Rattlers Cruise to 8-2 Win over Chiefs - Wisconsin wins 4-2 over Kernels in ten innings for second straight win Pre-Game Media Notes (Download Link) via the team's Virtual Press Box Box Score / Game Log A day and a half left in the T-Rats' Star Wars jersey auction! See, that's the thing about leadoff hitters and box scores. Absolutely everyone on the field for the Rattlers on this day contributed nicely (sans one player), but when you're atop the page, at first glance and review, that 0-for-5 sticks out. Get 'em this weekend, Eric Brown Jr. Agreed on the below, always worth your while. Chris and Kyle know that approx. 15 minutes works for you all. Glad to hear them give RH reliever Ryan Brady some love within, he's been solid. Final: Carolina 3, Lynchburg (Guardians) 2 Mudcats Win Sixth Straight 3-2 in Lynchburg - The first-place Mudcats won their sixth straight game while earning a series clinching victory Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Game Log OK, you Down East (Kinston, NC) Wood Ducks. Stop it Just stop it. Our first-place Mudcats, yearning to break the longest playoff drought in all of MiLB (sorry for another mention, Carolina fans), can't seem to extend their tiny half-game lead over the Rangers' affiliate in the standings, despite all the victories as of late. Let us breathe, please. First baseman Jesus Chirino was idle after exiting Thursday's game. By way of rout or nail-biter, these 'Cats are firing on all cylinders. Overall, the OPS figures you see in the box scores won't overwhelm, but the game experiences continue to build for these youngsters. And the not-so-young as well, as "older" relievers Tyler Wehrle (23) and Nick Merkel (25 next month) continue to shine. I promise you, Brewers brass won't elevate them until the results of the first-half standings (go to look up that end date, help in the comments, please?) comes. They clearly want the team they own to have playoff baseball in Zebulon this fall and end that playoff appearance gap. And yes, Merkel, listed at 6'7", 255, goes by @largemammal41 on Twitter. Love it. RH starter Logan Henderson with 65 effective pitches. Keep that dude healthy and watch out. Saturday sees all evening action, even in Appleton. Enjoy, everyone!
