Final: Nashville 6, Salt Lake (Angels) 3 Nashville Site Game Summary: Link for Mike Rivera photo, text follows -- www.nashvillesounds.com/n...ewsId=2317 Rivera Powers Sounds To 6-3 Win Over Bees SALT LAKE CITY ? Mike Rivera belted a pair of home runs to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 6-3 victory over the Salt Lake Bees on Tuesday morning at Franklin Covey Field in the finale of a four-game series and eight-game road trip. Nashville (20-19) concluded the trip with two straight wins to finish the trek at 2-6. Rivera, who drove in four of the six Nashville runs on the day, became the third Sound to hit multiple homers in a game in 2007, joining Ryan Braun and Chris Barnwell. The Sounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Bees starter Jonathon Rouwenhorst when Callix Crabbe scored on a Laynce Nix RBI single. Crabbe, who opened the game with a single, continued his recent hot hitting with a 3-for-4 effort that extended his hitting streak to a season-best six games. Salt Lake responded with a three-spot in the bottom of the first against Sounds starter Chris Oxspring, who lasted only two-plus innings in his shortest outing of the year. Mike Eylward drove in all three runs with a one-out, bases-loaded double to left that put the Bees in front by a 3-1 margin. Oxspring, who took a no-decision, threw 69 pitches in his two-plus innings and walked a season-high four batters. He allowed three runs on five hits and saw his ERA rise to 2.58 on the year. Steve Bray followed Oxspring on the hill for Nashville and worked three hitless innings, twice avoiding trouble by inducing inning-ending double plays in the second and third frames. Bray extended his scoreless streak to 14.0 consecutive innings and lowered his ERA to a miniscule 0.96 on the season. Rivera knotted the contest at 3-3 in the top of the fourth with a two-run home run to center off Rouwenhorst, the backstop?s fourth roundtripper of the season. Joe Dillon, whose single to lead off the frame extended the veteran?s season-best hitting streak to five games, also scored on the Rivera longball. Rouwenhorst took a no-decision for the Bees after allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits over seven innings. Rivera struck again for the Sounds in the top of the eighth when he belted his second two-run homer of the afternoon, a go-ahead shot to left off Bees reliever Alex Serrano that propelled Nashville to a 5-3 lead. The blast was his fifth of the year and third of the four-game series. AUDIO: Rivera's 2nd HR Gives Sounds Lead -- www.nashvillesounds.com/a...205-15.mp3 Nashville added an insurance run in the ninth when Jose Macias plated Crabbe with a two-our RBI single to left off Chris Resop. Jose Capellan (3-2) was awarded the victory after working 1 2/3 hitless innings of relief that included a pair of strikeouts. Luther Hackman picked up his third save of the year with a scoreless ninth, although he struck out the potential tying run in Adam Pavkovich on a 3-2 count to do so. After the right-hander retired the first two batters of the inning, the Bees put two runners on to make things interesting before Hackman slammed the door. Serrano (1-3) allowed two runs on two hits in his lone frame of work to take the loss for Salt Lake. Vinny Rottino had Nashville?s longest hitting streak of the season snapped at nine games following an 0-for-4 effort. The red-hot utilityman has hit safely in 15 of his lat 17 contests. The Sounds will join the entire Pacific Coast League for an off day on Wednesday before opening an eight-game homestand at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium by hosting the Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA-Marlins) in the first of 15 games between the clubs this season. Nashville won the 2006 season series by a narrow 9-7 margin. Right-hander Yovani Gallardo (4-1, 2.53), the Milwaukee Brewers? top prospect and current PCL strikeout leader with 55 K?s on the year, will start Thursday?s 7 p.m. homestand opener for the Sounds. Albuquerque will counter with veteran left-hander Chris George (2-2, 5.23). Nashville Box Score: Laynce Nix is unconscious -- trade him to somebody at the big league level while we can; reliever Steve Bray remains a Link Report favorite, dating back to his Rule 5 acquisition last season... www.minorleaguebaseball.c...a_slcaaa_1 Nashville Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...a_slcaaa_1 -
Braun injury (Left wrist still an issue, day-to-day)
Jim Goulart replied to bobskube's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Sounds announcer Chuck Valenches just mentioned that Braun (who is coaching first base today) took batting practice for the first time on Monday. The wrist (no longer the groin) is still the reason for his absence, and the Brewers want to avoid a Rickie Weeks-type situation with him. It didnt sound like he'd be back for the Sounds next game, which is Thursday, but maybe soon thereafter. -

David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com/ BACK ON TOPAfter a .226 April, Hernan Iribarren has bounced back to hit .349 this month and .440 for the last eight days. For his efforts, he captured the Southern League Player-of-the-Week Award -- the first Huntsville Star to win any kind of weekly award this season....... Monday night, hitting in the top spot, he played a part in another come-from-behind win over Carolina -- the third such in this series (although the Stars only had to overcome a 1-0 deficit Sunday). Trailing 4-2 in the top of the 8th, Hernan, Guilder Rodriguez, and Steve Sollmann were all walked by reliever Craig Molldrem to lead off the inning. Molldrem battled back, striking out Lou Palmisano and retiring Brendan Katin on a foul pop to first baseman Grant Psomas........ Get Ron Davenport for the last out, and Carolina is out of the inning, and in all likelihood, walk off with a win........ But Davenport, a .176 hitter on the road who had never had a two-RBI day for the Stars, hit the first pitch from Molldrem and lined it into center to tie the game........ Mark DiFelice, a former Mudcat from 2000-01, retired Carolina in order in the 8th. Kurt Koehler, who gave up six runs in the Stars' record 13-run inning Saturday, came on in the 9th and retired Steve Moss, now mired in a 3-for-26 slump. (He had a bad May last year, too, hitting .198 with just one RBI.)....... But Iribarren got the Stars going with a single to left........ At this point, a ground ball hit by Rodriguez to second baseman Kevin Randel would have ended the inning and the game. It had double play written all over it....... But Randel threw the one-hopper away to left field and that put Iribarren on 3rd and G.Rod on 2nd....... Sollmann was walked intentionally to load the bases........ Next, Palmisano, 0-for-3 after a 1st inning single, hit a chopper to short. Iribarren, with good speed, scored the go-ahead run and Marino Salas, who usually has to work to get his saves, retired the Mudcats in order to give the Stars their 5th straight win, his 8th save, and the Stars' 9th straight win over Carolina dating back to July 22nd of last year........ And more importantly, first place in the Northern Division. This was the first time Salas had actually retired the side in order to get the save, although on two occasions, he faced the minimum, thanks to a game-ending double play, and once, had to get just one out. The Mudcats were held to just three hits, two of them given up by starter Adam Pettyjohn in his best start since April 18th (6 1/3 IP, 2 R vs. Jacksonville).... One of those was a home run to Brett Hayes after he walked Vince Harrison with two out in the 2nd...... DiFelice gave up one hit -- a single to Hayes in the 7th -- that led to a run on a sacrifice fly. Carolina's bullpen had not given up a run in six of their first seven games this month, but in the last seven games, they've yielded 18 of the 23 earned runs they've given up in May and lost three of Carolina's last six games.. Steve Hammond (3-4, 5.92) will face James Russ Tuesday...... Ron Davenport has four hits in this series, more than any previous series this season, raising his average to .196. It hasn't topped .200, even during the early part of the season........ Brendan Katin, despite going 1-for-4, is 7-for-14 in this series with two doubles, a home run, and four RBIs....... Next to Steve Sollmann and Lou Palmisano, Katin, with a .305 average, is the next-best hitter on the road. -

Final: Huntsville 10, Carolina (Mudcats) 2 Huntsville Site Game Summary: Link for Manny Parra photo, text follows -- www.huntsvillestars.com/n...ewsId=1155 Stars Keep on Swinging and Slugging in Sunday Win Brendan Katin drove in four runs to back the solid pitching of Manny Parra, as Huntsville downed Carolina 10-2 Sunday afternoon in the second of a five-game set at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, NC. The Stars earned their fourth straight win to climb to 18-17 and move within a half-game of front-running Tennessee in the North Division, while the Mudcats slipped to 14-23 overall and 7-10 at home. Huntsville has won the last eight games between the two teams dating back to a 3-2 victory in 10 innings on July 22. Carolina scored the game?s first run in the first inning on a triple by Grant Psomas and a Parra wild pitch. Psomas hit a sinking line drive to left field that got past a diving Ulyses Davenport and was backed up by Steve Moss on the warning track. It was the fourth time in seven starts that Parra has been scored on in the first inning and the eleventh time in their last 12 games that the Stars have allowed the first run or runs of the contest. The Stars struck for three runs in the third on a run-scoring ground out by Guilder Rodriguez and successive two-out, run-producing hits by Mike Carlin and Katin. A walk to Parra and a sacrifice bunt by Hernan Iribarren were key factors in the rally. Huntsville added a pair of runs in the fifth inning on a Carlin sacrifice fly and a one-out single by Katin that plated Rodriguez, who had singled and stolen second base. Mudcats? starter Gaby Hernandez, the third ranked prospect in the Marlins organization according to Baseball America, was charged with five runs on six hits over five frames and suffered his fourth loss of the season. The right-hander walked three and struck out three and remains winless since April 23. Scott Nestor took over in the sixth and yielded five runs on a run-scoring single by Iribarren, a bases loaded walk to Carlin, a two-run double by Katin and a run-scoring ground out by Steve Moss, who went hitless in five at-bats. Katin and Rodriguez each collected three hits for a second straight game, while Iribarren and Rodriguez each scored two times. Parra left after six innings and earned his fourth win of the season by yielding just one run on six hits. He struck out a season-high eight, walked two and won for the first time in three tries on the road. Robert Hinton worked two innings, giving up a run without a hit and Joe Thatcher retired all three hitters he faced in the ninth. The series continues Monday night with Stars? left-hander Adam Pettyjohn taking the mound against Mudcats? right-hander Rick Vanden Hurk. Coverage of the game begins at 6:00 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on SportsRadio 730 WUMP and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Braun injury (Left wrist still an issue, day-to-day)
Jim Goulart replied to bobskube's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Nashville Media Notes Sunday: WHAT CAN BRAUN DO FOR YOU?: Third baseman Ryan Braun -- who is currently day-to-day with a sore left wrist and has missed the last seven games -- leads the PCL with a 1.142 OPS and a .716 slugging percentage. The 23-year-old prospect is tied for 5th in the circuit with 18 extra-base hits, is tied for 3rd with eight home runs, and ranks 5th among league batters with a .358 average.
