Final: Brevard County 6, Palm Beach (Cardinals) 5 MiLB.com Game Notes: Craig powers Cardinals Allen Craig slugged a pair of two-run homers before Ian Church's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning lifted visiting Palm Beach over Brevard County, 6-5, on Wednesday. Craig helped the Cardinals (15-10) rally from a five-run deficit with a blast to right field in the fourth. He connected for his seventh homer in the fifth to tie the score at 5-5. Palm Beach went ahead in the ninth when A.J. Van Slyke scampered to third base on an error by reliever Josh Wahpepah (1-4) and Isaias Garcia's sacrifice. Church's sacrifice fly to left field plated him. Cardinals reliever Nick Webber (2-0) walked two and struck out one in a hitless eighth before Luke Gregerson fanned two in a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save. Starter Tyler Norrick surrendered five runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking two in seven innings. Manatees starter Derek Miller allowed five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk in five innings. Cole Gillespie connected on a two-run blast, his third of the season, in the opening frame for Brevard County (15-11), while Alcides Escobar chipped in two singles. -- Michael Blinn/MLB.com Brevard County Box Score: web.minorleaguebaseball.c...p;sid=t503 Brevard County Game Log: web.minorleaguebaseball.c...a_breafa_1 24-year-old reliever Ben Stanczyk got some "just missed" Power 50 respect, check out his numbers after nine outings: web.minorleaguebaseball.c...pid=444457 -

Final: Huntsville 4, Chattanooga (Reds) 3 Huntsville Site Game Summary: Link to Stars' Home Page for Sam Narron Photo -- www.huntsvillestars.com/ Timely Hitting Helps Stars Top Lookouts Sam Narron worked seven strong innings and Brendan Katin drove in a pair of runs to lead Huntsville to a 4-3 win over Chattanooga Wednesday night in the opener of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars have put together their first three-game win streak of the season to even their record at 12-12 and remain tied for first place with Tennessee, an extra innings winner at Birmingham, while the Lookouts fell to 11-15 and two games off the pace in the North Divison. Narron blanked the visitors on three singles through five innings before Drew Anderson opened the sixth with a double, went to third base on a Paul Janish sacrifice bunt and scored the game?s first run on a sacrifice fly by former Stars? shortstop Enrique Cruz, who knocked in his ninth run of the season. Justin Mallett shut out the home side through five innings on two hits in his first start of the season and longest outing of the year before being replaced by Tyler Pelland. The southpaw retired the first two hitters he faced before Lou Palmisano walked and scored the tying run on a Katin double. Ulyses Davenport, a .121 hitter with two runs driven in entering the game, then singled into center field to push Katin across with the lead run. Narron struck out five, did not walk a batter and yielded four hits in his longest outing since 2004 and was replaced by Mark DiFelice, who allowed the tying run when Anderson doubled home Ryan Hanigan, who had doubled. Carlos Bohorquez replaced Pelland and opened the home eighth by walking Steve Moss, who advanced to third base on a single by Palmisano and scored the go-ahead run on a Katin sacrifice fly. Mel Stocker was hit by a pitch and Yohannis Perez broke an 0-for-17 slump with a single to center that plated Palmisano to make it 4-2 Huntsville. Marino Salas gave up a leadoff home run to Jay Garthwaite in the ninth before retiring the next three hitters to earn his fourth save in as many opportunities. The series continues Thursday night with left-hander Manny Parra making the start against Lookout?s right-hander James Avery. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on SportsRadio 730 AM WUMP and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Huntsville Site Update: Link, text follows -- www.huntsvillestars.com/n...ewsId=1136 Catching and Pitching Changes for Stars The Milwaukee Brewers have released catcher Max St. Pierre and promoted catcher Carlos Corporan from high class-A Brevard County in the Florida State League to Huntsville. Corporan will be uniform for the Stars Wednesday night when they open a five-game series against Chattanooga. The Brewers have also promoted left-hand pitcher Luis Villareal to triple-A Nashville and activated left-hand pitcher Jeff Housman from the disabled list. St. Pierre was acquired from the Kansas City Royals on March 27 in exchange for former Stars pitcher Ben Hendrickson. The veteran backstop batted .156 with three runs batted in for the Stars in nine starts behind the plate. Corporan was batting .363 for the Manatees with three home runs and 19 runs driven in over 23 starts as a catcher and designated hitter. He joined the Stars for the final week of the regular season last year and picked up three hits in nine at-bats in three starts. Villareal, pitching at the double-A level for the first time in his career, went 1-1 with a 6.75 earned run average for Huntsville. He picked up the win on Opening Night in his double-A debut and suffered his loss at Montgomery on April 21. Housman, recovering from shoulder surgery, has been with the Stars all season and has thrown a couple of live batting practice sessions. He went 1-4 with a 3.67 ERA in 11 starts and one appearance in relief for the Stars last year before his season ended on June 22. Note: no word yet on a corresponding AAA roster move. - Mass

Final, Game Two: Nashville 2, Iowa (Cubs) 0 Nashville Site Doubleheader Summary: Link for Ryan Braun photo, text follows -- www.nashvillesounds.com/n...ewsId=2294 Braun Blast Give Sounds A Doubleheader Split DES MOINES ? Ryan Braun belted his team-leading eighth home run, a two-run shot in the top of the seventh inning, to cap off a 4-for-4 contest and give the Nashville Sounds a 2-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader against the Iowa Cubs on Wednesday afternoon at Principal Park. With the blast, Braun also gave Nashville (15-12) a split of the doubleheader. Iowa won the afternoon's first game, 2-1 in eight innings. The 2-0 win in the nightcap was the Sounds? first shutout victory of the year. Braun, who matched a career high with his four hits in the second contest, finished the afternoon a combined 6-for-8 to raise his team-leading average to .366 on the year. His eight home runs tie for the Pacific Coast League lead. Chris Barnwell joined Braun with a solid afternoon at the plate, going 5-for-8 over the two contests to extend his hitting streak to a season-best four straight games. Vinny Rottino hit safely in both contests to up his season-high hit streak to five games. The Sounds and Cubs played scoreless baseball for six innings in the nightcap before Nashville broke through in the top of the seventh against Iowa reliever Randy Wells. With two outs in the frame, Barnwell singled up the middle and scored a batter later on Braun?s go-ahead blast. Wells responded to Braun?s longball by throwing up and in at Vinny Rottino with his very next pitch then plunked the Sounds outfielder and was immediately ejected by the game for his unprofessional action. The Iowa defense did a great job of keeping Nashville off the board earlier in the contest, throwing out two runners at the plate to end innings and turning three double plays. Left-hander Lindsay Gulin turned in a solid outing for Nashville in his first start of the season. The left-hander worked four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out three, but did not factor in the decision. He was removed due to a pitch count limit after throwing 66 pitches. Jose Capellan (2-1) followed Gulin with a pair of scoreless frames and was awarded the victory. Grant Balfour worked a 1-2-3 seventh to notch his first save for the Sounds. Wells (1-3) took the loss for Iowa after allowing Braun?s game-winning homer. The Sounds suffered a tough 2-1 loss in eight innings in the twinbill opener, Nashville?s third extra-inning contest of the year. Both Cubs runs in the game were unearned. R.A. Dickey (1-4) went the distance for Nashville and turned in a solid outing, allowing two unearned runs on six hits over 7 2/3 innings. However, the knuckleballer took a hard-luck loss, his fourth defeat in five starts this season. The Sounds missed a golden opportunity to take an early advantage, squandering a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the top of the first inning against Iowa starter Sean Marshall. After Callix Crabbe walked and Barnwell and Braun reached on consecutive singles, Marshall recovered to induce a foul popout from J.D. Closser then struck out Mike Rivera and Rottino in succession to escape the jam unscathed. Nashville grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third when Crabbe scored an unearned run on a two-out infield single off the bat of catcher Rivera. The Cubs tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth with an unearned run of their own. Koyie Hill singled to open the frame, moved to second on a Rivera passed ball, advanced to third on a Scott Moore single, and scored on an R.A. Dickey wild pitch. In the Iowa eighth, Angel Pagan reached on a one-out single and Carlos Rojas followed with a routine grounder to Barnwell at second base. The normally sure-handed defender mishandled the potential double-play ball to allow both runners to remain on the basepaths. After Chris Walker singled to load the bases, Eric Patterson lifted a game-ending sacrifice fly to right on which Pagan beat Rottino?s throw to the plate. Howard (2-1) picked up the victory for Iowa after allowing one hits and striking out four batters over three scoreless innings. Barnwell, Braun, and Rottino each recorded two hits for the Sounds in the opener. The teams wrap up the five-game series with a 7:05 p.m. finale on Thursday evening at Principal Park. Right-hander Tim Dillard (0-2, 3.68) makes his sixth start of the year for the Sounds in search of his first career Triple-A victory. Iowa will counter with southpaw Ryan O?Malley (0-2, 4.88). The Nashville Sounds suffered a tough 2-1 loss in eight innings in the opener of a Wednesday doubleheader with the Iowa Cubs at Principal Park. Both Cubs runs in the game were unearned against R.A. Dickey. Both teams scored unearned runs in regulation before Iowa plated the game-winner in the bottom of the first extra frame. Final: Hagerstown (Nationals) 4, West Virginia 0 Someone finally slows this juggernaut down... West Virginia Site Game Summary: SUNS BLANK POWER After scoring 28 runs on 32 hits in the first two games of their series against the Hagerstown Suns, the West Virginia Power were held to just five hits and they were shutout for the first time as they fell to the Hagerstown Suns 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. There was no score until Justin Maxwell hit a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to snap a scoreless tie. One inning later Chris Marrero hit a solo homer, his second of the series, to give the Suns a 3-0 lead. The Suns added one more insurance run in the seventh inning on a two-out RBI single from Erick San Pedro. West Virginia left a runner stranded at third base twice and left a runner stranded at second base three times. Their only big threat came in the seventh inning when they had the bases loaded and two outs with Darren Ford at the plate. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Hagerstown catcher Erick San Pedro threw behind Taylor Green at first base and picked him off to end the inning. Marco Estrada (1-2) pitched five scoreless innings of three-hit ball and struck out four to get the win. Lefty Zach Baldwin, a native of Barboursville, W.V., tossed three scoreless innings of relief for the Suns. Zach Braddock (2-1) allowed two runs through four and two thirds on four hits and struck out five but was tagged with the loss. Ford and Kenny Holmberg were the only two batters to reach twice for the Power and no Power players had more than one hit. The five hits tied their season low. The Power fell to 18-5 with the loss and the Suns improved to 10-16 with the win. The Power will finish the four game series with Hagerstown Thursday night. The Power will start left hander Luis Ramirez (1-0, 3.38) and the Suns will counter with right hander Edulin Abreu (0-1, 5.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM (5:35 Central). Link while active, text follows: www.nashvillecitypaper.co...s_id=55964 Sounds? Braun embraces being role model By Nate Rau, Nashville City Paper Sports Correspondent Ryan Braun carries himself with a swagger that falls on the right side of the line separating confidence and cockiness. During a torrid hitting streak to open the season when Braun launched five home runs, including two that smacked off the Greer Stadium guitar scoreboard, he never was completely satisfied with himself at the plate. ?I?ll never be completely satisfied,? Braun said. ?That?s just the way I am.? The 23-year-old Sounds third baseman came to Music City with the same publicity and soaring expectations as previous Milwaukee Brewers hot prospects like Prince Fielder and Rickie Weeks. Just like that duo, Braun has lived up to the hype. He leads the Sounds in batting average (.304), home runs (seven), RBIs (15) and runs (17). What?s more, Braun has played well in the field at third. The Brewers told Braun it was his defense he primarily needed to improve before he makes the leap to the big leagues. So far, his own assessment of his glove-work has been better than his view of his offensive production. Braun has just one error this season. ?I do feel like I?ve played great defense,? Braun said. ?That?s pretty much been my only focus.? Besides top prospect, there?s another title Braun has embraced throughout his young professional career. Even more than the typical ballplayer, Braun has gladly accepted his position as a role model. It?s not just the fact that he?s on the fast track to the big leagues that has brought attention to Braun. Wherever he?s played, Braun has faced questions about his Jewish faith. ?It's something that?s garnered a lot of attention and it?s something I take pride in,? Braun said. ?There aren?t that many Jewish ballplayers so if I have kids that look up to me as a role model, then I?m going to take on that responsibility.? Braun, whose father is Jewish and mother is Christian, said he looked up to Jewish ballplayers when he was a kid, perhaps because there were very few in the big leagues in the last few decades. ?There haven?t been that many Jewish professional athletes who have been successful at the highest levels,? Braun said. Eron Zehavi is a marketing and promotions assistant with the Sounds who is working with the Nashville Jewish community to draw attention to Braun?s pride in his faith. ?The truth is there are only a handful of Jewish players in baseball,? Zehavi said. ?If Ryan Braun can step up and be that guy, then maybe there?s a kid in Nashville who will look up to him and say, ?Hey he?s like me, I can be a ballplayer too.?? -
Link for photo while active, text follows: www.floridatoday.com/apps...002/SPORTS Errecart taking things 'easy' BY JIM CAWLEY FLORIDA TODAY Chris Errecart is a guy who likes to go with the flow. The California native and first-year Brevard County Manatees player has a laid back attitude that shines through his personality. "I'm pretty easy going," he readily admits. Lately, Errecart has been carrying that relaxed approach with him on the field -- and it has paid off. The result has been a blistering start to his Florida State League career in which the 22-year-old is hitting .360 through Monday's games. "I'm not taking anything for granted this year," Errecart said. "I try not to get too high or too low, keep it even keel. And it's helped me a lot." The quick start has surprised Brevard County manager John Tamargo, who expected Errecart to succeed, just not this quickly. "I thought he'd scuffle a little bit at the beginning trying to get used to the league, because this is a tough league," Tamargo said. So far, no scuff marks. Errecart's .360 average is third in the FSL. He leads the Manatees in runs scored with 16 and hits with 32 through 23 games. He also is second on the team in RBIs (15), walks (9) and slugging percentage (.494). "I'm seeing the ball really well; just letting the ball travel," Errecart said. "Sometimes I have a tendency of trying to go get the ball. Now, I'm just trying to let it get there, let my hands work -- and it seems to work pretty well right now." Errecart's triumphs have come amidst a position change. A former right fielder, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound left-handed thrower and right-handed batter was moved to first base by the Manatees, a position he has played all season. "Now he's got to worry about two things -- hitting in this league and also playing a position he's not used to playing," Tamargo said. "And he's done real well with both parts." Again, Errecart's persona is key. "As long as I'm playing, it's great for me," he said with a smile. "I could be playing shortstop -- even though I'm lefthanded." Errecart played at the University of California before being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers -- the Manatees major-league affiliate -- in the fifth round. Last season, he batted .316 for Helena of the Pioneer League and was named an all-star. So that's California to Montana to Florida, or three different time zones in the past three years for Errecart, who of course, took it in stride. "It's fine," he said. "I could be anywhere in the United States or in the world, as long as I'm playing baseball it's a good time." Tamargo believes those good times may take his first baseman to Milwaukee in the future. "I definitely think it's a possibility -- and be very productive in the big leagues," Tamargo said. "He's got good bat speed, he's got power, he knows the game. He's just got everything going for him right now." Make that easy going.

With the victory, Nashville (14-11) improved to 5-1 against the I-Cubs this season. The 14 runs scored matched a season high for the Sounds; the club also plated 14 on April 14 at New Orleans. Eleven of Nashville?s 14 runs on Tuesday came with two outs in an inning. Zach Jackson (4-2) was effective from the hill and from the batter?s box in leading the Sounds to victory. The left-hander allowed four runs on eight hits over seven-plus innings of work, his longest outing of the season, while striking out four batters and walking two. At the plate, Jackson went 2-for-5 with a double and team-high four RBIs to help his own cause. Six Sounds players recorded multiple-hit evenings, led by Ryan Braun?s 4-for-6 effort that included his team-leading 10th double and three runs scored. Andy Abad and Ozzie Chavez each produced three RBIs and Chris Barnwell drove in a pair of runs to join Jackson in the multi-RBI club on the night. Nashville grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning after Iowa manager Buddy Bailey?s decision to issue a two-out intentional walk to Barnwell to load the bases for Jackson backfired. The left-hander ripped a bases-clearing, three-run double to left off Iowa starter Angel Guzman but was thrown out at third to end the inning as he attempted to extend the hit to a triple. The double, his first hit of the year, produced Jackson?s first career RBIs. In addition to Barnwell, Abad (walk) and Vinny Rottino (single) also scored on the play. Sounds centerfielder Callix Crabbe stifled Iowa?s first scoring opportunity in the bottom of the second when he threw out Geovany Soto at the plate as the Cubs catcher attempted to score on a Carlos Rojas two-out single. Guzman faced another two-out, bases-loaded jam in the third and got touched for four runs as Nashville extended its lead to 7-0. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, the Iowa right-hander allowed a single to Braun, hit Brad Nelson with a pitch, and gave up an Abad single to fill the bases before walking Rottino on four pitches to force home Braun for a 4-0 Sounds lead. Chavez followed with a bases-clearing, three-run triple to center. He walked four batters while striking out two. The right-hander?s ERA in his two starts against the Sounds stands at 22.50 (15 ER / 6.0 IP). Iowa broke up Jackson?s shutout bid in the bottom of the sixth, plating four runs against the left-hander. Eric Patterson led off the frame with a triple to center and scored on Casey McGehee?s ensuing groundout. With two down in the frame, Soto walked and Buck Coats was hit by a pitch before Angel Pagan, who finished 3-for-4 on the evening to pace the Cubs, belted a three-run homer to left to make it a 7-4 contest. It was his first tater of the season. Nashville put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh against Cubs reliever Federico Baez. Abad got things started when he swatted a three-run home run to right, his third roundtripper of the season. Braun and Nelson, who preceded Abad with singles, scored on the blast. The scoring continued later in the frame when Rottino doubled and scored on Jackson?s second run-scoring hit of the night, a two-out single to right. Crabbe followed with an RBI triple to right, his team-leading second three-bagger of the year. The Sounds added two more scores in the eighth against Baez courtesy of Barnwell?s two-out, two-run single. Baez allowed seven runs on 10 hits in only two innings of relief work for Iowa. Alec Zumwalt followed Jackson on the hill for Nashville and worked two hitless frames including a pair of strikeouts to close out the contest. Nashville, which went 6-for-16 with runners in scoring position on the evening, was 3-for-5 with the bases loaded after entering the game with only one hit in 11 bases-juiced at-bats on the year. The teams continue the series with a 12:05 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Principal Park. Right-hander R.A. Dickey (1-3, 7.43) will toe the rubber for Nashville in the opener and face Iowa southpaw Sean Marshall (NR), who will make his first Triple-A appearance of the season. Sounds left-hander Lindsay Gulin (0-0, 15.43) will make his first start of the season when he mans the bump in the nightcap. He?ll be opposed by I-Cubs left-hander J.R. Mathes (2-2, 5.40). Nashville Box Score: Hate to highlight the lone player with a tough night, but it's been a rough start to the season for Drew Anderson... www.minorleaguebaseball.c...a_iowaaa_1 Nashville Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...a_iowaaa_1

Just a reminder, you can purchase a one-day pass from MiLB.com ($3.95), and then watch the archived West Virginia TV game from April 25th, in which Zach Braddock and Alex Periard combined to win 7-1, walking none and striking out nine between them. web.minorleaguebaseball.c.../video.jsp Been meaning to do this myself, haven't done so yet -- there's also a couple of Yovani Gallardo archives you could pull up while on that same one-day pass.
