Kudos to the broadcasters / staff who put together the quick turnaround game recaps you see above. Andy Barch does fine in West Virginia, and the Huntsville and Nashville versions just couldn't be more professionally detailed and informative. Thanks for letting us bring your words to a wider audience!

Final, Game One: Nashville 5, Colorado Springs (Rockies) 2 Final, Game Two: Nashville 7, Colorado Springs 0 These boys are real road warriors... Nashville Site Doubleheader Summary: Link for Wes Obermueller photo in Nashville red -- COLORADO SPRINGS ? The Nashville Sounds recorded their second doubleheader sweep of the season on Friday evening at Security Service Field, scoring 5-2 and 7-0 victories over the host Colorado Springs Sky Sox in the first two games of a four-game series. With the wins, Nashville (62-51) increased its lead in the PCL American Conference Northern Division to seven games over second-place Memphis, which lost in Salt Lake. Wes Obermueller (5.0 IP), Kane Davis (1.0 IP), and Jose Capellan (1.0 IP) combined on Nashville?s second shutout of the season in the nightcap as the Sounds improved to 7-3 in twinbill action and to 15-5 on Fridays in 2005. Nashville baserunners, who led the Pacific Coast League with 125 steals entering the doubleheader, had a field day against the Sky Sox backstops, swiping four bags without being caught in the opener against Dan Conway then adding a 5-for-6 effort in the nightcap with Pascual Matos behind the dish. All-Star Corey Hart led the way, swiping three bags on the night to move into second in the circuit with a career-high-tying 27 thefts, one off the league lead held by Oklahoma?s Esteban German. The outfielder also registered 27 swipes during his 2002 campaign. Obermueller helped his own cause in the nightcap, spotting Nashville a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a two-out, two-run double after Colorado Springs manager Marv Foley elected to intentionally walk the .182-hitting Corey D. Hart in front of him to put runners on the corners. Obermueller is no slouch with the lumber; the hurler led all major league pitchers with a .385 batting average in 2004 (min. 35 AB). Nashville added to the lead in the third when All-Star Corey Hart reached on a fielder?s choice, stole his team-leading 27th base of the year, and scored on Prince Fielder?s RBI single to make it a 3-0 game. Hart struck again in the top of the seventh, delivering a two-run triple against Sky Sox reliever P.J. Bevis to up the advantage to 5-0. Fielder followed with a mammoth two-run shot to center that easily cleared the 40-foot high batter?s eye. The blast, his team-best 22nd homer of the year, gave the 21-year-old a team-leading 70 RBIs on the season. Obermueller (2-0) tossed five scoreless innings to earn his second consecutive win. Colorado Springs starter Christian Parker (1-3) absorbed the nightcap loss after giving up three runs on six hits and five walks over his 5 1/3 frames. Nashville took a 1-0 lead in the opener when Warren Morris (2-for-4) scored on Fielder?s RBI groundout in the top of the first inning. The Sounds tacked on two more in the third on outfielder Corey Hart?s run-scoring single and another RBI groundout, this one from Nelson Cruz. Catcher Mike Rivera swatted his tenth home run of the season to extend the lead to 5-0 in the top of the sixth, touching Sky Sox reliever Wilton Chavez for a two-run shot to left. Colorado Springs broke up Gary Glover?s shutout bid with a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the frame to bring the score to its final 5-2. Sounds shortstop Steve Scarborough continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-3 effort in the opener and center fielder Dave Krynzel extended his hitting streak to six games with a 1-for-3 showing. Neither player appeared in the nightcap. Glover (4-2) earned the win in the opener after allowing two runs on six hits over his 5 2/3 frames. Jeff Bennett came on to record the final four outs to pick up his team-leading 11th save, his first since July 6. Colorado Springs starter Zach Day (0-1) took a loss in his first Triple-A decision of the year. The right-hander surrendered three runs over five innings. The teams meet again in the third game of the four-game set on Saturday evening at 8:05 p.m. CT. Right-hander Mike Meyers (4-4, 5.44) takes the hill for Nashville to face Sky Sox right-hander Jason Young (9-6, 5.38). Final: Mississippi (Braves) 3, Huntsville 2, ten innings A night catcher Jeff Winchester will never forget -- in a not-so-good way... Huntsville Site Game Summary: Gregor Blanco singled home the winning run in the tenth inning to push Mississippi past Huntsville 3-2 Friday night in the first of a three-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Braves improved to 19-21 in the second half and to 30-29 on the road, while the Stars slipped to 19-21 in the second half and lost for a sixth time in their last nine games at home. The Braves have won 13 of the 19 games between the teams, including seven of the eight in Huntsville and have held the Stars to two runs or fewer in five of those eight games. Michael Rosamond struck out against Brian Wolfe for what appeared to be the second out in the tenth inning but reached second base when catcher Jeff Winchester was charged with a passed ball, his fourth of the night, and first baseman Brandon Gemoll could not handle his throw to first base to try to cut down Rosamond, running out of the batters box. Onil Joseph singled to left to move Rosamond to third and Blanco singled to center field on the next pitch to drive in the Braves? first baseman with the night?s decisive run. Joey Devine yielded a two-out single to Gemoll in the home tenth but struck out Brad Nelson to end the game and earn his fourth save since joining the Braves. Devine was the 27th overall selection in the June amateur draft by Atlanta after a record-setting career at North Carolina State. The Stars tied the game in the seventh inning on a bases loaded single by Tony Gwynn, Jr. that scored Enrique Cruz, who scored both Huntsville runs. Callix Crabbe then sent a fly ball to shallow left field that appeared to plate Winchester with the go-ahead run but it was ruled that the Huntsville receiver had tagged up and left third base too early. Rosamond singled home a pair of runs in the first inning to give the visitors the early lead. Stars starter Glenn Woolard then blanked the Braves over the next five innings before Jerome Gamble tossed a scoreless seventh and Andy Pratt worked scoreless relief in the eighth and ninth innings. Wolfe suffered his first loss since joining the Stars and has allowed only one earned run in 9 1/3 innings. The series continues Saturday night with knuckleballing right-hander Keith Stamler throwing for the Stars against Braves? right-hander Paul Bush. Coverage of the game gets underway at 5:50 p.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and via the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Final: Brevard County 2, Sarasota (Reds) 1 Brevard County Site Game Summary Dillard Wins AgainSeven Innings Pitched, No Walks and Only Three Hits (Saturday, August 6th) - Manatees Ace Tim Dillard cruised thru the Sarasota Reds line up last night en route to a 2-1 win at Sarasota. Dillard finished the night allowing only three hits, no walks and whiffing five to help the Manatees take three of four games in the team's final trip to the left coast of Florida. Outfielder Travis Ezi led all hitters, banging out four hits in five at-bats, but strangely the speedster's hits were all singles. In fact, none of the Manatees 10 hits went for extra bases, but it was enough to get the job done. Dillard, who has already tied two Brevard County Manatees franchise pitching records this season: two complete games and five shut outs, sports an 11-7 record and a 2.45 ERA. His 154.1 innings pitched is only 11 innings off the all-time Manatees record of 165.1 set by Ryan Dempster back in 1997. The Manatees head south 70 miles to battle the St Lucie Mets tonight, tomorrow and Monday night before returning back to Space Coast Stadium on Tuesday, August 9th. The three-game series against the Mets begins the critical part of the season; all remaining games are against divisional opponents and the Mets and Manatees are currently tied for third place, three games out of first. West Virginia Press Release: The West Virginia Power, class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers have made yet another roster move. Today, utility player Will Lewis was activated and catcher Nestor Corredor was promoted to High A Brevard County of the Florida State League. Lewis was placed on the disabled list last week with an oblique strain, marking the second time this season that he was placed on the disabled list. Lewis is hitting .275 with three home runs and a team best 46 RBI through 73 games. This likely means that Manatee catcher C.J. Medlin, who left last night's game with an injured arm, has landed on the Brevard County disabled list, although we have no confirmation of that at this time.

Link while active, text follows: www.dailymail.com/news/Sp...005080535/ Power's success comes against Tourist bullpen Christopher Wade For the Charleston Daily Mail West Virginia Power Manager Ramon Aviles is accustomed to making the long stroll out to the pitcher's mound to bring on a relief pitcher. While it's no easy managerial task to try and determine when or when not to make the call to the bullpen, Aviles watched with interest as his counterpart, Asheville Manager Joe Mikulik, made the sometimes gut-check decision. Aviles and the rest of the Power liked what they saw when Mikulik decided to relieve Tourist starting pitcher Sam Deduno in the sixth inning. That's because Deduno was baffling Power hitters to the tune of 12 strikeouts in five innings of work. The first 10 Power outs all came on strikeouts. However, due to a high pitch count, when the Power came to bat in the bottom of the sixth inning trailing by two runs, Mikulik had relieved Deduno, a 6-foot-1, right-hander. The Power was able to get to the bullpen and score the final three runs of the game to post a 4-3 victory at Appalachian Power Park in front of a paid crowd of 4,024 Thursday evening. "I was glad to see him (Deduno) leave the game," said Aviles. "He's tough and has a great arm. He kept the hitters off balance all night, pitched ahead in the count and did a great job." Mikulik also was impressed by Deduno. "That was one of the better performances of the year," said the Asheville manager. "When Sam is on like that, he's tough to beat. Anytime you get 12 strikeouts, your pitch count is going to be high. Sam's was high and we were concerned about that." The Power did score a run off Deduno in the first inning, as Hernan Iribarren had an infield single, stole second and scored on a bloop RBI single by Grant Richardson. The Power lost starting pitcher and first-round draft pick Mark Rogers in the second inning due to a blister on his hand. "It was the same hand as earlier in the year and he will probably miss his next start," said Aviles, who watched a similar injury send Rogers to the disabled list earlier in the season. "But it's not as bad as the first one was." Asheville scored three runs in the fifth inning. With two outs and the game tied at 1-1, Tourist second baseman Jose Valdez hit a shot to right-center field that hit the top of the wall and bounced over for a two- run homer. With Deduno gone, the Power took quick advantage and answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the sixth inning, which proved to be the game-winning runs. With one out, Brendan Katin singled, Carlos Corporan walked and third baseman Josh Murray, who had struck out his previous two at-bats against Deduno, doubled down the left field line, driving in a run and cutting the deficit to 3-2. Then, after Hasan Rasheed grounded out to first base, setting up runners at second and third with two out, Power center fielder Charlie Fermaint, who also had struck out twice, laced a single to left field to drive in the game-winning runs. "We had a couple huge hits," said Aviles. "Josh did a nice job of hitting with two strikes and hit a shot down the left field line that set up Charlie's big hit to score two runs. They provided the difference in the game." Aviles got no argument from Mikulik. "You have to tip your hat to their hitters," said the Tourist manager. "They had been struggling off Sam, but took advantage of some pitches thrown over the plate. Murray had a huge hit down the line and, then, they got two more runs and that was enough." While the Tourist bullpen certainly had its fair share of problems, the same wasn't true of Power relievers Justin Barnes and Robert Hinton. They slammed the door on Asheville. Barnes earned the win, improving his record to 8-1. He owns the most wins on the team, despite the fact that all 20 of his appearances have been in relief. Then, Hinton picked up his 10th save as the Power relievers combined for 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball allowing only two hits. Fermaint, Murray and Katin each had two hits to lead the Power attack, while Iribarren reached base all four times on a single, two walks and an error. Irribarren also stole three bases. The Power improves to 21-18 on the second half of the season, while Asheville falls to 17-23. They will conclude their four-game series Friday night at Appalachian Power Park.

Link while active, text follows: www.wvgazette.com/section...2005080444 Fermaint delivers in Power win By Tommy R. Atkinson Charleston Gazette Staff writer West Virginia Power outfielder Charlie Fermaint may not have mastered the English language, but the Puerto Rican native is becoming well versed in baseball. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Fermaint provided what proved to be the winning margin with a two-run single in the sixth inning to propel the Power past the Asheville (N.C.) Tourists 4-3 Thursday night. A paid crowd of 4,024 attended the South Atlantic League game at Appalachian Power Park. The Power (21-18) entered the bottom of the sixth trailing 3-1 before rallying. Brendan Katin laced a one-out single to left, Carlos Corporan followed with a walk and Josh Murray delivered a run-scoring double down the third-base line to cut the deficit to 3-2. Hasan Rasheed had an infield ground out for the second out, bringing the leadoff hitter Fermaint to the plate. The 19-year-old worked a 1-1 count before depositing a breaking ball between third base and shortstop for a two-run single and a 4-3 edge. ?He said he?s very happy that he?s able to help as soon as he gets here,?? said Fermaint through Power manager Ramon Aviles, who served as interpreter. ?He said he?s very comfortable at the plate and he?s very relaxed and seeing the ball really good.?? Fermaint, who just joined the Power over the weekend from Helena (Mont.) of the rookie Pioneer League, entered Thursday?s game with a .381 batting average in 21 at-bats with a home run and six RBIs. Aviles said Fermaint, who has been the leadoff hitter since arriving in Charleston, was scheduled to start the season with the Power but a shoulder injury kept him in extended spring training. ?The guys that were here were doing OK so they decided to send him to Helena,?? said the Power manager. ?[Fermaint] was having a good year there.?? After the Power took the 4-3 lead after the sixth, relievers Justin Barnes and Robert Hinton didn?t allow a run in the next 4 1/3 innings to close out the victory. Barnes (8-1) picked up the win and now leads the staff in victories, while Hinton earned his 10th save. West Virginia right-handed starter Mark Rogers, the Milwaukee Brewers first-round draft pick last year, was limited to 1 1/3 innings because of a blister and will likely miss his next start, according to Aviles. Rogers spent time on the disabled list earlier in the season with the same problem. The Power grabbed an early 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first on Grant Richardson?s bloop run-producing single to left. Asheville took a 3-1 lead with a three-run fifth, highlighted by Jose Valdez?s two-out, two-run homer. Tourists starter Sam Deduno baffled the Power with a dozen strikeouts and just three hits in five innings. After he left, West Virginia plated its runs off reliever Jarrett Grube (5-5), who took the loss. ?Right now we?ve got a more balanced lineup,?? said Aviles. ?Tonight was Fermaint, another night [Angel] Salome won with a home run, [Ryan] Braun won with a home run. We?ve got different guys contributing.?? Power points Power all-star Hernan Iribarren stole three bases and now has 34 on the season. ... Richardson extended his on-base streak to 23 games. ... Before the three-run sixth, the Power stranded four runners in scoring position in the previous three innings ... Power third baseman Braun was a last-minute scratch in the starting lineup because Aviles decided he needed a day off. ... Asheville leads the league in homers (130) and is second in batting average. ... West Virginia owns a 5-2 record on the eight-game homestand. ... The Power will play host to the Tourists (17-23) in the finale of the four-game series tonight with fireworks following the game.

Link while active, text follows: www.helenair.com/articles...505_06.txt Winning determination By JOSH JORDAN - IR Sports Writer Billings pitcher Logan Ondrusek won't be writing home about his Thursday night start in Helena. Agustin Septimo lined Ondrusek's first pitch deep over the center field wall and Michael Bell followed with a home run to left field on the right-hander's third pitch as the Brewers jumped to an early lead and cruised to a 10-4 win over the Mustangs. Helena improved to 5-0 in the second half of the Pioneer League season and moved two games ahead of the Mustangs in the North Division standings. "We're getting different contributors every night in the second half," Helena manager Ed Sedar said. "The boys came out really focused; the hitters came out focused and the pitchers came out focused." Septimo and Bell weren't done as the two hitters at the top of the Brewers' order each went deep twice in the game. Bell's home run in the first was his first as a professional and he added a three-run shot in the fourth inning when Helena took a 6-1 lead. "It feels great, it feels good to get the monkey off my back," Bell said about his first home runs. "I feel like I've dropped fifty pounds off my back." Billings threatened to get back in the game with two runs in the top of the sixth but Septimo hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-run line drive to left, to keep the Brewers lead comfortable at 8-3. "Both of those guys have been working really hard on their hitting," Helena hitting coach Bobby Randall said. "It's good to see them have some success, they really had good nights." Helena's hot start to the second half comes after it lost five of its top players after they were called up to the Brewers' Class A team in West Virginia last week. That call up included three of the top hitters in the league, but other players have been able to fill the void caused by their loss. "It's great because now some of us need to step up and fill their roles," Bell said. "Everyone is jumping at the chance, it's a great opportunity for all of us." Helena starter Mathew Kretzschmar is also making the most of his opportunity. The right-hander, who was recently called up from the Brewers' Arizona affiliate, pitched four strong innings in his first start in Helena. Two days after his 19th birthday, Kretzschmar carried a no hitter into the fourth inning before Mayker Sandoval ended it with a home run to right-center field. Kretzschmar gave up three hits and a walk with three strikeouts after watching his team take the early lead. He has now pitched six innings and holds a 2.96 ERA in two appearances for the Brewers. "He's thrown well every time out," Sedar said. "I've got to believe it doesn't matter if he has a lead or not, he's going to go after them." Rafael Lluberes picked up the win with one-and-two thirds innings of relief and Ronny Malave and Brandon Parillo closed the door over the final three-and-a-third. Helena added two runs on a hit, three walks and a hit batter in the bottom of the seventh. Billings pitchers hit four Helena batters in the game. The Mustangs added a run in the eighth to give the game its final score. The two teams meet again tonight before moving to Billings for a three-game stand. "Billings is always going to be an important series," Bell said. "We know it's going to be tough competition and it's always real important to get the wins against them." Final: Huntsville 4, West Tenn (Cubs) 3 Any series win over any type of Cubbies team is sweet... Huntsville Site Game Summary: Stars Survive Another Scare in Ninth to Down JaxxHuntsville survived another scare in the ninth inning and hung on to defeat West Tenn 4-3 Thursday night in the final game of a three-game set at Pringles Park. The Stars took two out of three in the series during which all the games were decided by a run to improve to 19-20 in the second half, while the Diamond Jaxx dropped to 23-16 in the second half but remained one game behind Carolina in the North Division after Chattanooga scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Mudcats. The Stars split 10 games with the Jaxx in Tennessee but lost 10 out 16 in the season series. Dwaine Bacon delivered a two-out triple in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter, prompting Stars manager Don Money to remove starter Dennis Sarfate and call on southpaw Andy Pratt to face left-handed hitting Adam Greenberg, who had compiled a .286 average against left-handed pitching. Greenberg drove a 1-1 pitch off the bottom of the wall in center field to chase home Bacon to cut the Stars lead to 4-3. Money then removed Pratt from the game and called on right-handed throwing Gerrit Simpson to face righty-swinging Ryan Theriot, who knocked in the winning run in West Tenn?s victory on Wednesday afternoon. Theriot grounded the first pitch from Simpson, making his first appearance with the Stars, into left field for a base hit but Brad Nelson made a perfect one-hop throw to the plate to cut down a sliding Greenberg for the final out of the inning to keep the visitors in the lead. Simpson fanned Casey McGehee on three pitches to open the ninth inning before Brandon Sing doubled and Buck Coats walked, forcing Money to call on Alec Zumwalt, who saved Tuesday?s win by fanning Nomar Garciaparra for the final out with two runners on base. Zumwalt struck out Luis Montanez and walked Aaron Sisk to load the bases before getting Jose Reyes to ground out to end the game and earn his third save of the season. Jae-Kuk Ryu retired the first nine hitters he faced before getting roughed up for four runs on five hits in the fourth inning. Tony Gwynn, Jr. ignited the rally with a leadoff bunt base hit, moved to third base on a hit-and-run single by Brandon Gemoll and scored on a double by Nelson that moved Gemoll to third base. Enrique Cruz delivered a two-out double to score both runners and then came around on a base hit by Ben Van Iderstine. The only other hit the Stars managed against Ryu was a two-out double by Gemoll in the eighth. The right-hander dropped to 8-7 on the year with three of his losses handed to him by the Stars, who totaled 14 runs on 28 hits against him in 27 2/3 innings over four starts. Stars starter Dennis Sarfate blanked the home side until Reyes lofted a two-run, opposite field home run just over the wall, just inside the foul pole in left field in the fifth inning to cut the visitors lead to 4-2. Sarfate lasted 7 2/3 innings, his longest outing of the year, and allowed three runs on six hits and a walk to pick up his ninth win of the season. The right-hander struck out five and evened his season mark against the Diamond Jaxx at 1-1. The Stars return home Friday night to open up a three-game set against Mississippi with right-hander Glenn Woolard taking the mound. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:50 p.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Huntsville Box Score: Well, pretty safe to say that Dennis Sarfate will finally escape AA after this year -- great outing here... www.minorleaguebaseball.c...x_wtdaax_1 Huntsville Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...x_wtdaax_1

Brevard County Game Log (5th inning): Brevard County Manatees catcher C.J. Medlin left the game due to an injured arm. Ugh -- looks like there could be a catcher shuffle needed -- normally West Virginia's Nestor Corredor is the choice to jump up and fill in, as he's done at both AA (2004) and AAA (although he didn't see action with Nashville during his stay earlier this year).
