Sunday 5/25: Latest Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast - "The guys got together on Sunday morning to talk about a very back and forth week for the Crew, the state of the offense, changes coming to the rotation and, of course, Pat Murphy's management of the bullpen." Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "Memorial Day is typically the time when you can throw out the "it's early" caveats, and thus far ... the Brewers don't look the part of a playoff team, even after a 4-3 week. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe examine whether or not the team's struggling bats turned a corner this week in Pittsburgh, but much of the discussion focuses on Pat Murphy's deployment of his bullpen arms and how that's holding back the team's ability to win games. Brandon Woodruff is still working through his rehab, Jacob Misiorowski is still in Nashville and was this a Caleb Durbin breakthrough? In Three Up, Three Down (43:40), they talk Brice Turang's defense, Rhys Hoskins' dance moves and huge performances from Logan Henderson and Carlos Rodriguez. Remember When (1:03:00) goes waaay back for a Milwaukee connection to Pete Rose's reinstatement. Curt Blanche (1:12:00) is ready for a tweak to roster rules. Then, JR sits down with Brewers utility man Isaac Collins (1:17:30) to discuss his Minnesota roots and his former high-school teammate, eventual Wisconsin Badgers basketball standout Brad Davison. Plus, how sweet was his first big-league hit against the team that drafted him?" *** Apologies for not posting daily this weekend, but you will find all the Friday through Monday postgame shows at these links: WTMJ with Dom Cotroneo - All three Fri-Sun shows 97.3 The Game with Tim Allen and crew - All three Fri-Sun shows Locked on Postcast with Brandon Sneide - The Fri-Sat losses -

Friday 5/23: Via WTMJ's Morning News (download link): "President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger joins the show, and we ask him right off the bat if he is retiring – because his face is all over the Business Journal. Is he retiring soon? (Actually, yes, by the way. Marti Wronski will assume his duties.) Plus, the newest giveaway coming to the ballpark and looking forward to Jordan Love’s first pitch and if Rick has any advice to throw out a first pitch." Via 97.3's "The Steve Czaban Show" (Hour Two): Paul Wagner, former Brewers pitcher and Wisconsin native Via 97.3's Drew & KB (Hour One): Rick Schlesinger (go to the 23:30 minute mark) Via the "Wisconsin Sports Daily Show" with Steve "Sparky" Fifer: "Forbes Sports Brewers Writer Andrew Wagner discusses the Brewers finding their power vs. the Pirates last night. Andrew breaks down the financial future for Brewers ace Freddy Peralta & whether or not the Brewers will be willing to pay the asking price for him." -

Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transactions: Biloxi Shuckers activated RHP Tyler Woessner from the 7-day injured list. DSL Brewers Blue placed RHP Dariel Jaquez on the 60-day injured list. DSL Brewers Blue placed SS Joandrew Pena on the 60-day injured list. DSL Brewers Gold placed RHP Alejandro Parra on the 60-day injured list. DSL Brewers Gold placed RHP Dalvin Bodre on the 60-day injured list. DSL Brewers Gold placed RHP Luis Aguayo on the 60-day injured list. Not too surprising seeing the injured stints for the four right-handers, they are pitchers after all. As for Joandrew Pena, he was a January 2024 $500,000 bonus baby out of Venezuela. Initially listed as a shortstop (aren't all international infield signings?), Pena had 6'3", 172-pound vitals indicated upon his signing, so it wasn't surprising he landed primarily at first base in his age-17 2024 DSL season. The RH-bat did slug three home runs, but also fanned 50 times in 133 plate appearances, posting a .606 OPS. Final: Nashville 12, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Yankees) 5 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Offense Explodes for 12 Runs to Take Series Over RailRiders - Freddy Zamora Ties Career-High with Four Hits Kudos to the five bullpen arms who pieced together effective work, especially RHP Garrett Stallings, who was acquired in trade one year ago this morning. Then-trade bait RHP Aneuris Rodriguez, who will turn 21 next month, is toiling in the Florida Complex League in the Orioles' system. Rodriguez made one appearance at High-A to open 2025, but it appears that was a planned one-time outing. Anthony Seigler, prominently featured in the post-game notes within the game summary you just read, returned to the field on defense, but at his familiar second base spot, not third base. Oliver Dunn played third in this game, with Freddy Zamora at shortstop. Zamora spoke about his first professional forays at third base (five appearances thus far) with Voice of the Sounds Jeff Hem last week (audio). Why is that news on Zamora important? Because the 2020 2nd rounder out of the University of Miami is raking in what should still be considered a small 26-game sample, having played in just about half of the Sounds' games this season, but certainly seeing more time in May (.996 OPS in 15 games). Zamora is controlled by the Brewers for another season, through 2026, so any thoughts of riding his hot hand at the MLB level may be better paused. However, it's nice to see the success after the starts and stops of his organizational tenure thus far. Catcher Nick Kahle, 27, is set to become a minor league free agent at season's end, but it's not difficult to envision the organization bringing him back next spring based on his availability and seemingly potential future-coach mindset. There's a whole batch of video highlights available at the Sounds' "X" feed, EMJ's most prominent part of his 30-game .822 OPS is his .397 OBP, so it was nice to see the SLG above all else Saturday night: Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 3, Knoxville (Cubs) 1 Box Score and Game Log Catch up with Manager Joe Ayrault (prior to Friday's game) - 2:05 minute mark we learn the injury that sidelined Cooper Pratt for three days this week. "But Jim, why don't you just type and tell us what the injury was?" Because everyone should be in the habit of investing in the easily digestible interview segments provided by all the affiliates. I'm doing my part to promote and educate. Lara's Career-Day Leads Shuckers to Series Win Over Smokies - Brewers No. 17 prospect sets season-high with 3 hits, career-high with 4 RBI Yesterday in this exact spot of the Link Report you saw: "Luis Lara has a .306/.398/.375 line in May." Make that .325/.409/.403. The young man doesn't turn 21 until November. And there's always plenty of this in his game: For more video, here's the Biloxi "X" feed - look for the WLOX highlight package that includes interview comments from starter KC Hunt. We still await Mike Boeve's first stint in the field of 2025, but his bat had four knocks Saturday, including a double. He scored three runs. RHP Tyler Woessner returned to the Biloxi mound for the first time since April 10th. Luke Adams and Brock Wilken each walked twice, respective .844 and .907 Southern League OPS marks nothing to sneeze at. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final: South Bend (Cubs) 6, Wisconsin 2 Box Score and Game Log Late Rally Short-Circuits in Loss at South Bend - Rattlers four-game winning streak ends with 6-2 loss to Cubs Voice of the Timber Rattlers Chris Mehring did his very best to describe a double play the Cubs turned, as the below MiLB article link shows and also details. So, click and watch (Chris also included the view in his linked game summary above) - Six players team up for two outs on this wacky double play In a more traditional highlight, heck of a catch here: RHP Tanner Gillis only needed 80 pitches to navigate six innings in his 2nd start since his promotion from Carolina. Eduardo Garcia has started exactly 21 games each at shortstop and center field. His 7th error on the season was Saturday, his second while patrolling the outfield. Final: Carolina 4, Fredericksburg 3, 11 innings Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Down Fredericksburg in Extras Is it OK to still miss Josh Adamczewski wholeheartedly despite any Mudcats team success otherwise? He was 3-for-4 with a double when he last played on May 2nd. Also, after playing for the first time in eight days Friday, CF Braylon Payne sat Saturday, hopefully just part of a maintenance plan and not any serious regression on the pain front (I really have to cut back on the Payne wordplay...) On to this exciting game - Our own @Spencer Michaelis eats, drinks, and sleeps Brewers and Brewer prospects (well, we're not sure he ever sleeps), but his "X" timeline this AM includes four Mudcats highlights you'll want to view, including one we'll post below. RH starter Chandler Welch needed a strong outing and got one here. RHP Garrett Hodges netted the win despite four free passes (three BB, one HBP) in his otherwise perfect three frames. Catcher Yannic Walther is now 0-for-4 in SB attempts on his pro career, with two coming in this game. Things that make you scratch your head, I didn't check the video, but Walther was caught stealing 3rd base with two outs in the top of the 10th (he had been the ghost runner). I'm hoping it was trying to advance on a ball that got away from the catcher, but even that would be hard to justify. Thankfully this ended the bottom of the 10th: As for the 11th, I advise a review of the game log, both halves of the inning. Plenty of drama oozing through the online ink. Nice win! Sidenote: Nice to see the Friday-Saturday Eric Bitonti breakout, just hope that we continue to see positive signs, because it's been a rough go. Final: ACL Guardians 12, ACL Brewers 11 Box Score and Game Log OK, so how much time y'all got? Maybe it's just me, but as I opened this box score, the first thing that caught my eye was the very first thing we see, the top of the Guardians' batting order, where a player who had gone 4-for-4 with a home run, plus a walk, was pinch-hit for in the 9th. The pinch-hitter walked, but c'mon, man! Looks like this was Jaison Chourio's (Jackson's younger brother) third rehab game since a May 13th IL placement. He was in the starting lineup but was pinch-hit for in the first inning. We'll let Cleveland fans be concerned about that. Guardians scored three times in the 3rd to tie things at 3-3. Guardians took a commanding 9-4 lead after seven. After each team scored once in the 8th, the A-Crew plated six runs in the top of the 9th to take an 11-10 lead! A walk, two wild pitches, another walk, and then consecutive run-scoring singles spelled doom for the good guys. RHP Griffin Tobias (2024 9th round out of an Indiana high school) has yet to walk a batter (one HBP) in 12.1 innings and has fanned nine. Unfortunately, batters are hitting .345 against him, and the sledding has been rough. Keep the head high, young man. After four days off, rehabbing Jeferson Quero started behind the plate. He was plunked in his first at-bat - always a scary proposition facing rookie arms for these 40-man roster guys. Quero doubled and singled before exiting (2-for-3, R, RBI). Team RISP: 7-for-16. Team RISP: 3-for-21. The poor number above belongs to the Brewers' kids. Normally I'd suggest reviewing the game log from that six-run A-Crew 9th, but to be honest, it was a lot of gifting from Cleveland in the forms of walks and a crucial error. Of course, still feel free to check it out (the fateful bottom of the frame is just below while you're there). It's a traditional four-pack of games Sunday, but the Shuckers and Rattlers have later getaway times than you'd think. The Shuckers are home, so can't blame the hosts there. The Sounds head to Indianapolis Sunday evening as the one full-season affiliate who will be playing on Monday. To all those who have served our country, thank you. LHP Josh Maciejewski assigned to Nashville Sounds from Biloxi Shuckers. NOTE: Looks like "X" is doing "X" things. NOTE #2: You can also click on the date at the bottom of the embedded tweet, that should bring you to the desired spot. *** Final: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Yankees) 10, Nashville 5 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Drop First Game of Series to RailRiders - Two Crooked Innings Too Much to Overcome on Friday Night The Sounds have now given up ten runs twice in a five-day span, the first being last Sunday in the 10-6 loss in Memphis. Of course, it helps to win the three games in between, all against this Scranton club. For Tobias Myers fans, I suggest you review the game log for the five runs he allowed (two earned) in the 4th. Leadoff walk to old friend and current three-hole hitter, catcher Alex Jackson, who is crushing things in 2025. So, Myers' leadoff walk thing is a carryover from his big-league troubles. But beyond that, there's no mention of a line drive or any truly impressive opposition force. Three ground ball singles, and costly errors on consecutive plays by Ernesto Martinez, Jr. and Jorge Alfaro. More frustration for Myers within an abomination of a season thus far. Anthony Seigler, still as the DH as his finger allows, singled and walked. The OPS is .943. Every so often there will be a transaction that makes one say, "Oh yeah, him". That's no shade on RH reliever Blake Holub, but he had been placed on the IL on April 14th, and it's not as though there was a Link Report mention since, until his activation Friday (and 1-2-3 6th inning here). If I were LH reliever Tyler Jay (0.51 ERA, 1.08 WHIP), I'd have been puzzled by the Brewers' out-of-nowhere trade acquisition and immediate big-league clubhouse placement of southpaw Rob Zastryzny. As an exercise for this Link Report, at each level, we'll list those players on an IL list (not including those already designated as "full season"). Hopefully at some point we'll see each of these players back: LHP Thomas Pannone (60-day) C Jeferson Quero INF/OF Tyler Black OF Jared Oliva Quero and Black are each currently rehabbing at the Arizona Complex League. You'll find five video highlights separated from the lowlights from this game via the Sounds "X" feed. Oh look, another HBP for Luke Adams, #11 on the season and part of a night when he also doubled and singled. Speaking of May lines, Adams sits at .315/.500/.537. Wow. RF Garrett Spain and 2B Jheremy Vargas were a combined 0-for-7 with three K's, so why the mention here? Because this is just ridiculously pretty, that's why. Not sure we'll see a better relay at any level all summer: The trio of Biloxi arms you read about in the game summary walked eight, living dangerously though obviously allowing just one run. The Rattlers' batters fanned 12 times, drawing only one walk, so the pitchers had to be on their game, and they were. Congrats to RH starter Ryan Birchard on a best-in-career night. Current Wisconsin IL stints: RHP Aidan Maldonado RHP Manuel Rodriguez RHP Cameron Wagoner (60-day) OF Luis Castillo OF Kay-Lan Nicasia (set to return next week, via Victor Estevez' interview linked above) Final, Game One: Fredericksburg (Nationals) 4, Carolina 3, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Final, Game Two: Carolina 6, Fredericksburg 3, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Mudcats Split Doubleheader Against Fredericksburg Just a bummer of a loss in the opener. Up 3-0 heading to the bottom of the 6th in a seven-inning contest, RHP Bryan Rivera had struck out the side in order in the 5th, following up the four shutout frames from RH starter Bryce Meccage. Second baseman Luis Lameda grounded into a 5-4-3 double play with the bases loaded in the top of the 6th. That would prove costly. Rivera allowed three runs in the bottom of the inning, all scoring on two-out singles. Carolina had men on 1st and 2nd with one out in the top of the final inning but couldn't retake the lead. Then... Definitely one of the more bitter defeats of the Mudcats' campaign. The Mudcats stranded 15 in just seven innings! But let's not wallow when Meccage looked like this in his first outing in 16 days (one hit, one BB, five K). Plus, Jose Anderson (DH'ing here), was on base four times with three hits including a double. Filippo Di Turi (3-for-4) and Jesus Made (2-for-5) had strong lines. On to the nightcap: LHP Wande Torres did well to recover from a three-run initial frame, with three subsequent scoreless. LHP Bjorn Johnson and RHP Miles Langhorne finished up nicely. Made (one walk) and Anderson (0-for-4) had quiet nightcaps, so it was incumbent upon some of the less-heralded members of this team to pick up the slack, and the box score and game log will reflect those productive efforts. Somebody really needed this - .573 OPS in May, 25 K's in 70 plate appearances this month: More highlights from both games via the team's "x" feed. Carolina IL stints: RHP Yorman Galindez (60-day) - encouraging update from earlier this week here RHP Josh Timmerman RHP Caden Vire INF Luis Pena Frustratingly, you may as well add 2B Josh Adamczewski to that list, having last played on May 2nd. Final: ACL Diamondbacks 5, ACL Brewers 3, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Maryvale IL stints: LHP Joey Broughton (60-day) RHP Hayden Robinson LHP Russell Smith - there's been no news on Smith, who likely will see time in AAA this season if healthy RHP Alexander Vallecillo (60-day, last pitched with Carolina in 2023) The young Brewers scored all their runs in the 2nd and only earned one of those. The game log will show you a particularly messy inning of defense for the D-Backs. None of the three Maryvale hurlers were particularly effective, combining to walk 12 and plunk two (though fanning ten). However, LHP Jose Meneses ran his season-long scoreless inning streak to 7.1 frames in this, his 4th appearance (he danced around four free passes). Setback? Jeferson Quero last played on Monday the 19th. Tyler Black had two of the A-Crew's three hits (all singles). It's a 3:05 CT start for Wisconsin, looking to add to the misery of the 10-33 South Bend Cubs. Afternoon start for the complex kids, evening action elsewhere. RHP Deivi Garcia is listed as Nashville's starter, but as noted early in this report, was placed on the nebulous "Development List" prior to Friday's game. Have a great Saturday! Transactions: Milwaukee Brewers optioned RHP Carlos Rodriguez to Nashville Sounds. Nashville Sounds transferred RHP Deivi García to the Development List. Nashville Sounds placed RF Jared Oliva on the 7-day injured list. Nashville Sounds activated RHP Blake Holub from the 7-day injured list. LHP Josh Maciejewski assigned to Nashville Sounds from Biloxi Shuckers. NOTE: Looks like "X" is doing "X" things. Currently down as of this post time and thus the linked tweets within the report aren't viable, so if that's what you're seeing, come back later. They're worth viewing (plus I worked hard to compile!). Those on the Shuckers' 7-day IL: LHP Brian Fitzpatrick RHP Tyler Woessner C Ramon Rodriguez (though likely to be sidelined all season once an Achilles tendon injury is confirmed) INF Eric Brown, Jr. INF Ethan Murray Four additional game highlights at the Biloxi "X" feed here, including Lara showing off his arm as well.
