  1. And that difference means Turang getting Super Two will cost the team about $2-$3 M while Frelick getting Super Two will cost the team around $10 M. Frelick needs to be stashed a couple of months.
  2. How about the word of someone that actually gets paid to write about baseball? From mlbtraderumors, about Santander: "He drew curiously poor marks for his glovework in left field (-8 DRS, -5 OAA in just 299 innings), but that looks anomalous, given his track record of solid defense in right field."
  3. He means in the everyday Major League lineup, not the AAA lineup.
  4. Santander is also not that bad defensively. He's not a Gold Glover, but his RF/9 is compares favorably to other right fielders.
  5. Unless they are just looking to flip Burnes, Ashby would actually make more sense for the Pirates as a piece of a Reynolds trade. It would also probably cost one of Frelick/Weimer/Mitchell. Plus more than Hiura and Urias. And getting Cruz also is simply a pipe dream. Lauer for Santander is intriguing. It would also probably bring back a prospect or two from the Orioles. I doubt it would go the other way. I wouldn't give up Lauer and more for just Santander.
  6. Trading cash considerations for a player that was DFAed usually indicates that the team believes other teams (or at least one) were looking to grab that player off waivers. The Brewers also had to DFA Trevor Kelly to make room, since the 40-man is maxed.
  7. He's not likely AAA filler, since he's out of options.
  8. Some of the players with a lower OPS than Hiura in 2022: Ronald Acuna Willy Adames Giancarlo Stanton Dalton Varsho Christian Yelich Tim Anderson
  9. I wonder how many people realize that the Mets are in line to spend about $80 M more on their payroll and luxury tax payments than they make in revenue. That doesn't include any other expenses. With those, the Mets are almost assured of losing over $100 M on the year.
  10. This actually changed in the latest CBA. Arbitration salaries are fully guaranteed.
  11. And that's the risk a team takes when signing a young player to an extension that buys out their arbitration years before they get there. The team risks the player recessing and not being worth what they are getting paid and the player risks being paid far less than they would be getting otherwise. Once a player establishes themselves, there's little chance of them signing a "below market" deal. It seems you want extensions only given to players after they establish themselves and for far less than they would get through arbitration. Sorry, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.
  12. Because if he had continued to hit as he did in his rookie year, he would be getting much more in arbitration.
