  1. XM's Kevin Kennedy (by way of the Dallas Morning News) is reporting that Tom Hicks confirmed that the Rangers offered Teixeira an 8 year extension worth $140 million approx 2 weeks ago, and Teixeira turned it down.
  2. Huff to Cubs for Pie We can only hope.
  3. Gagne has waived his no trade clause and will go to Boston, according to XM's Kevin Kennedy.
  4. Why would the Dbacks drop him though? Well, since it doesn't look like the Dbacks will re-sign Byrnes (Arizona is stacked with OF depth), there are stories/rumors that they are willing to listen to offers for him. However, they don't have a lot of incentive to trade him, since they are fighting for a playoff spot themselves. I can't see the Dbacks trading their (arguably) best player this year, just because he might walk after the season.
  5. Chad Cordero would look great in a Brewers uniform IMO. Unfortunately, he is young and under control of the Nats for a couple more years, so they don't really have any incentive to trade him. That all adds up to a high price tag, generally. The nice thing is, even if the Brewers gave up a few nice pieces to get a player like Chad Cordero, it would not be a rental situation.
  6. That Byrnes rumor started at 9:40 this morning, so I'm thinking we would have heard something more substantial by now.
  7. Gordon Edes (Boston beat reporter) on XM now. He says it is still premature to call this a done deal. He says there are a lot of things to get done first, and then he only listed 2 things: 1. Needs to waive his no trade clause 2. Needs to be compensated for incentive clauses that he will have little or no chance to reach
  8. The Texas/Atlanta deal is done pending physicals. Right, but apparently the physicals are not complete, because Teixeira and Mahay are not even on their way to Atlanta yet.
  9. Evan Grant is on Charlie Steiner's XM show right now from Arlington. Teixeira and Mahay still have not left the hotel in Texas, so that deal is not yet finalized. It is Grant's understanding that the Teixeira deal not being finalized is holding up any possible Gagne deal right now. Grant also reported that one of the most "intriguing" trade rumors involves the Brewers' Tony Gwynn going to Texas in a Gagne deal. Then, his cell phone connection broke up. When Charlie got him back, he changed the subject.
  10. 3 hours to the deadline. Will it be fast and furious, or quiet like last year (league-wide)?
  11. Can anyone explain why Gagne would have a clause that allows him to veto trades to Boston but not Milwaukee? He probably doesn't like fresh seafood. Otherwise, its a mystery to me.
  12. After he was DFA'ed, he made 2 starts for Pawtucket Good catch KG. I had not checked Pawtucket.
  13. Trade finalized between the Yankees and the Dodgers. Just reported on XM. No link yet, so I'll post it here in the rumors for now. This should be a fun day.
  14. Maybe Pineiro solves some of their starting pitching woes. I don't think he's made a start all year... not sure how stretched out he is at this point. It will be interesting to see what role he will play in Saint Louis. They definitely need pitching help - not sure if this is the guy. Makes you wonder about him if the Red Sox let him go for basically nothing. He was DFA'd last week sometime, so they must have thought a PTBN was all they could get for him.
  15. Eric Gagne and John Reinecker for Tony Gwynn, Zack Jackson, Greg Aquino and Steve Hammond. I'd do that in a heartbeat. I had actually forgotten all about Greg Aquino. Plus, that deal works for Texas on a couple fronts - it gives them another option in CF and includes starting pitching.
  16. Disappointing: Gotta be Weeks, with Hall a close 2nd IMO. I never dreamed Weeks could be this bad, and Hall is just a shell of the player he was last year. For pitchers, its Turnbow for me. He has the same "head issues" as he had last year, from my perspective. As soon as there is a runner on base, he becomes a different (worse) pitcher - also way to many leadoff walks. Surprising: Braun and Villanueva. Braun - I didn't expect this out of him. Where would the Brewers be without Braun? Villanueva - I didn't think moving him to the pen was a good idea, but he has been arguably the most consistent reliever.
  17. Victorino looks like he's headed to the DL for the Phillies also. And his replacement, Michael Bourn, turned his ankle in the game last night when he stumbled over the bullpen mound. Fortunately for Bourn, it appears that it looked worse than it was.
  18. XM just reported that Beltran will indeed be placed on the DL prior to the start of the series tonight.
  19. As others have said, there are lots of other things in the baseball headlines right now, most notably the trade deadline looming. Leading up to the game tonight, there will be plenty of hype for Glavine, I suspect. He will be the talk of every pre-game show.
  20. Castillo's foot problems have limited his ability to steal bases. Unfortunately, speed was really his only "tool".
  21. Speaking of which, LF 4th level and Loge Bleachers...are they in the sun during day games? Anything on the left field side is in the sun for most, if not all, of the game. (more so as you get closer to the corner / oufield)
  22. Link to the trade There's the link to the trade.
  23. Another trade has gone down, according to XM's Kevin Kennedy. This one has Kyle Lohse going to the Phillies - in return for lefty Matt Maloney.
  24. I'm fairly certain Anthony Reyes is not a Latin player - he's an American. Of course, when I go look it up, I could be proven completely wrong. He would be a nice long term, fairly inexpensive (for a young pitcher) project... certainly nothing that would help this year. Edit: Indeed, Reyes is a full-blooded American (born in Downey, CA). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. Cubs Recieve: Benoit or Wilson and Laird Does every Cubs trade have to involve a catcher this year? That probably comes from the Rangers moving Lofton and Teixeira. But, I think the Rangers are going to try Marlon Byrd in CF full time for now to see what they have there, and Salty will probably play mostly first base for right now (while also getting some time behind the dish). Still, I'm sure the Rangers would be interested in Pie as a long term CF.
