  1. I don't know what the "plan" actually is, but I'm hoping he stays in the big league pen. He has been pretty effective, and I've felt for some time that the Brewers could use a 2nd lefty out there (some disagree, but that's for a different thread). That said, Parra won't be available to pitch for a couple days and Linebrink won't be with the team until Thursday. So, it could be an ideal time to send Parra back down to Nashville for 10 days, in order to have as many usable arms as possible in Milwaukee.
  2. There are only about 5 games going on around MLB today, so today could be a busy day for trades... lots of GMs making calls today perhaps.
  3. I am not sure yelling stupid things, is better than saying them. That said I hope someone tears into him for having Wise pitch to Pujols. I hate to nit-pick, but Wise vs Pujols was a good matchup for the Brewers, at least according to the numbers. Pujols is a career 2-for-9 hitter (I'm assuming that includes this past weekend) vs Matt Wise. No extra base hits. Small sample? Absolutely... but any batter vs pitcher comparison is going to be a small sample. Still, Wise gets Pujols out, for whatever reason. Hard to fault Yost for that matchup IMO. Getting back on topic... I don't think its necessarily a question of whether the Brewers will get hot again. They will, but when? And equally / more importantly, when will the Cubs cool off? If the Brewers are going to continue to struggle on the road (which seems like a safe bet at this point), they are really going to need to make hay at home. Last I checked, all wins count the same regardless of where the games are played.
  4. It appears Harrison (injured) was replaced in the deal by 2 pitching prospects (not yet named at this point). So, it Teixeira and Mahay for Salty, Andrus, and 2 pitchers. Edit: Harrison still included - will have one more physical before the trade is finalized.
  5. Rosenthal is now reporting the deal, saying that Matt Harrison is one of the two pitching prospects Harrison is injured (got hurt over the weekend, I believe), so there was some talk that he would be removed from the deal and replaced by a different pitching prospect (not Jo Jo Reyes).
  6. Hardy with a seeing eye single. 1-0...nice
  7. 1-0 on a Lee sac fly.
  8. After all the great plays Griffey made in the Brewers series, he waits until the Cubs get to town to make an error - turns a Theriot single into a 3-bagger.
  9. Hard hit ball on the ground... that's an interesting concept after a bunch of weak pop ups / fly balls.
  10. It looks like the Cubs' game is about to get underway, but there is a lot of rain in the area. Hopefully the Reds have the lead after 5 innings.
  11. Thank you Ned for putting together a decent lineup card tonight. We just might win. Well, I'm not sure the lineup determines wins and losses, but I am lovin the lineup tonight.
  12. Welcome to the team, Brian. If you don't like the sound of 30, I suggest you tell people you are 20-10. It worked for me.
  13. how many pounds does a walrus weigh" I guess that's better than "How much do you weigh?"
  14. Just had two downpours in less than 15 minutes with blazing sunshine in between. The weather is very suspect right now. In Saint Louie?
  15. Eric Byrnes (hustle / attitude) Alex Rios (speed & power combo) Freddy Sanchez (no real tools... uses the whole field... tough out... gets the most out of his abilities) Eric Hinske (high school & Legion opponent) Roy Oswalt (had to have one pitcher in there)
  16. I hate to see players get hurt, but the 2nd place team in the NL Central will be in the chase for the wildcard. Losing Utley hurts the Phillies chances of competing for that playoff spot.
  17. Fly balls tend to lead to more runs than ground balls but its different for different types of players. Balls hit in the air become outs at a much higher rate than balls hit on the ground. There was a thread here with the stats about a year ago, but I can't find it right now. Its not a "dopey" comment at all. Yost is probably frustrated that his team is going up to the plate flailing away at the fences. Unfortunately, there is nothing he or Skaalen can do about it once the player is in the box.
  18. I've been to Old Busch but not the new. The fans are very friendly. In fact, since the Cards are basically out of the race, they will probably be extra supportive to the Brewers fans in attendance - they just want to see the Cubs lose.
  19. Pinella rates much lower on the games "Yosted" statistic. I'll take Yost over Piniella any day. If people scrutinized the Cubs the way they scrutinize the Brewers, the same people that don't like Yost wouldn't like Piniella either IMO. Same with any other team/manager you want to use. There just isn't that much difference in managers in terms of strategy. There is obviously differences in personalities. People have a tendency to notice moves made by a manager that don't work out and ignore the ones that do. People also tend to hold a manager responsible when things go poorly and give credit to the players when things work. I'm not saying Yost is a great manager, but he sure isn't as bad as some make him out to be. Most importantly, the players respect the heck out of him (at least from everything that has been reported).
  20. But I thought that when the Brewers lose the Cubs automatically win? Oh wait, that's just what I was told by some posters in the IGT... Ohhhh, you beat me to it. Judging by the Brewers IGT, it seemed like the Cubs had already won today. People, please step away from the ledge.
  21. Anybody know who is warming up in the Brewers pen?
  22. What the... I'm sure there was some bullpen mismanagement there somewhere this inning.
