  1. Seems like a fine plan, other than the Sanchez IL thing. Might as well just start with 12 pitchers, or go with the slightly shorter bench. In the first 10 days of the season they have 3 off days. 12 pitchers or a shorter bench would be no issue.
  2. It doesn't seem difficult at all. Especially considering Junk, Ashby, Hall and Gasser all have options. Seems pretty simple: Peralta-9 starts all on 5 days rest. Rea- 8 starts as the number 3, where he is lined up currently, 7 on 5 days, 1 on 4. Miley- 8 starts presumes he makes his first one April 6th. as the 5th starter, 6 on 5 days, 2 on 4 That leaves 20 starts to go, the simplest answer is to just run a DL Hall, (Junis as the length) as the #2 starter, that gives you 8 starts. If a matchup or rest demands it, you just flip those guys. Then you have Joe Ross (Ashby as Length) start as the number 4 starter (7 starts) and Robert Gasser/Bryse Wilson as the 6th guy (4 starts). You don't need the 6th guy until April 13th, so for the first 2 weeks Wilson is available for mop-up duty. In the two long stretches you have the "tandems" all separated by a non-tandem (FP, WM, CR) and so if things go bad, someone is available mop up. The only real danger in this plan is Rea and Miley suck and you are thin for their starts. But (a) yeah that is just the weakness of this rotation and (b) not the point of this article.
  3. Week 2 Survey: https://forms.gle/vnuMHxnGeUefzsNj7 I replaced Joey Ortiz on the lock list with Brice Turang, added Garrett Mitchell to the lock list and removed Devin Williams. No pitcher received more than 33/39 votes, so with the removal of Williams, we now just have to pick one additional pitcher.
  4. Yeah, i realized my error walking through the grocery store listening to JR and Hogg. It should be fixed now. Brewers prospect of yester-year on the mind I guess
  5. It is that time of year again: Opening Day Roster Prediction time. I put together a survey last year. The idea was to do a weekly survey and see how the roster is shaping up as the season approaches. Last year each survey got about 50 responses per week. I know opening day rosters are not the most important thing anymore, but they are (1) interesting and fun to predict and (2) still very meaningful considering that if certain players left off they will be out of the organization. Last year, the groupthink consensus predicted 25/26 players correctly, with the only miss being Brice Turang being "optioned to Chicago." This year, there are a few more question marks. Such as: was Turang so bad last year he played himself to AAA? Will Thiago Viera's optionless status ensure he makes the team? Etc. So, here is version 1 of this year's survey. There are 3, if healthy, locks that I decided to make locks for purposes of the survey. I'll see how it goes. ttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/195f9Kp69BicY5VEua5-OquoAQGlPE0gbbH2YCf2magM/edit
  6. Trade Corbin Burnes and Joey Wiemer to the Orioles for Jordan Westburg and DL Hall Free Agent Additions Carlos Santana 1 year, $7M Mitch Garver 3 years, $39M Nick Martinez 2 years, $20M Alex Wood 1 year, $7M Extensions Willy Adames Brandon Woodruff Non-tender Rowdy Tellez Opening Day Roster: C: Conteras, Garver IF: Santana, Turang, Adames, Westburg, Black, Monustario, Toro OF: Yelich, Mitchell, Frelick, Taylor SP: Peralta, Martinez, Houser, Wood, Rea RP: Williams, Uribe, Megill, Payamps, Peguero, Milner, Wilson, Hall Payroll: $116M plus whatever you pay woodruff for this year and Adames signing bonus. Summary: I really think Westburg should be the target for the Brewers. Is Burnes enough to get him? Probably not, so I throw in Wiemer but ask for a young reliever in return, if it isn't Hall it could be anyone. Westburg shores up the hot corner, but we still need a first baseman. I resign Santana to mentor Black, who gets playing time at both corners. Then we complete the overhaul of the offense by being the mystery team to sign Mitch Garver. We need a backup catcher and Garver gives us that, but in the form of DH. Rehab his catching skills in the lab and flip him in the off-season once Quero is ready. In order to convince Garver to come here, we will have to overpay a little. I think the following lineup will produce a lot more runs than the 2023 team did: Yelich | Adames | Contreras | Santana | Garver | Westburg | Mitchell | Frelick | Turang BN: Black, Toro, Taylor, Monustario Losing Miley, Woodruff and Burnes has left a gaping hole in the pitching staff. We have decided to fill that with Rea, Nick Martinez, and Alex Wood. The hope is the pitching lab and progressive usage of Martinez can turn him into the steal of the class and Wood is just Wade Miley 2.0. The Bullpen remains in tact and should be able to keep the 5 and dive pitching staff near the top of the league. Adames is crucial to this team. 4 win SS are hard to come by and I think you can get him at a discount this year. With virtually no future obligations, now is the time to pounce. Just make it happen. Losing Woodruff, even if it is the prudent thing to do, would just be too devastating on top of the Counsell betrayal and Burnes trade. Giving him some version of two year deal is a must. Criticisms: As much as I love my plan, I think there are two big criticisms: (1) the Orioles ain't trading Jordan Westburg, (2) Mitch Garver is not going to sign and/or the Brewers would need to 3rd catcher if he does, Number (1) might be true, but he is my top target. I think you either get an impact bat or just keep Burnes. That makes signing Garver even more important. While I do think it is unlikely, I just don't like any of the other offensive free agent options. The Garver Gambit seems like the best way forward.
