  1. Up the middle defense will need to be optimized for this club to succeed, so I understand Turang being designated the starter. He is an excellent defender. Ortiz is reportedly glove strong as well. One of them will need to hit some.
  2. Those K numbers are unusually high for Rea. Him knowing his game and pitching away from the barrel of the bat in all four quadrants of the zone is key. Soft contact usually finds a glove. Of course, if it were that easy they would all do it, all the time, and the game is way more difficult than that.
  3. I’m wondering now if their plan for the pitching is well sorted. Peralta and a cast of question marks swirling around the articulated philosophy of maybe we’ll do this unless we do that doesn’t foster confidence.
  4. I’ll need to reject “Kids need to play.” Roster spots, specifically roster spots reserved for pitchers, should be occupied by players who can help the club compete and win this season. A proven mid tier arm is exactly the right addition.
  5. A left and right side platoon makes some sense at DH. A hot bat plays again tomorrow. Sanchez/Yelich as the primary names with Contreras, Hoskins and others to follow.
