    Pitching matchups are seldom to the Brewers advantage. Perhaps the opener strategy can be helpful, again. I don’t know how they keep winning behind that rotation.

    This is my last opposing viewpoint to the new Turang narrative. He’s proven me wrong, so far. I hope it continues. However, as defenses adjust those softly struck fly balls and dribblers will find gloves. Poor contact seldom leads to good results.

    Simply stated, the starters haven’t been good and this data suggests they’re actually a bit worse than we’ve come to believe.

    Taking the out at first instead of the lead out at second isn’t radical. There’s another word for it.

    With D. Williams out the number and quality of change ups being thrown will be down. I think it’s a difficult pitch to master. Bad ones get crushed.

    I don’t know if I can agree with this. For one, it makes fielding the position more difficult, specifically because more pitches will be skipping into and away from the catcher. Framing will be harder. They’ll be reaching even more than they do now. Last night’s episode had very little to do with catcher positioning and a whole lot to do with a giant, one handed backswing.

    Once the backswing contacted the catcher while the batter was in the box the ruling became clear. The plate umpire called it immediately. He got it right.

    Hard to disagree. The lack of power in the order will slow their roll when those three hop grounders stop trickling through. Lucky may be better than good, but good is a better choice in the long term.

    Contreras is so much better than I expected. His ability and willingness to drive a ground ball through a vacated sector of the infield makes him different.

    Turang is listed at 6’0”/188 pounds. He doesn’t appear to be that big. A ten home run year would be peak power. Maybe he can be effective. It won’t be as a slugger.

    Every flare he hits has been finding the outfield grass. As it continues opposing outfielders will continue to come forward. This is unsustainable. He looks like Larry Bowa out there. That guy couldn’t hit a bit.

    Scuffling through four innings without his best stuff is a positive. While I see him as a leverage reliever, the time is right to see if he is going to be more. Sustaining velocity and developing command will always be important. 93 on the paint will carry the day. 95 down the middle will not.

    Hoskins came in with cleats up, dirty af. There was intent. Salt in the coffee. McNeil and Hoskins have been been going at it for years.

    The evolution of Peralta is impressive. He threw one pitch when he came up, which wasn’t that long ago. So far, so good.

    Neither of them have approached that in their careers, nor have they thrown the number of innings you’re projecting. Ashby is coming off a major injury and he wasn’t great before he was hurt. Both of them issue a boat load of walks. Both might be leverage relievers.

    You are right as rain except for that sneaky bunt reference. Aside from Turang, they should never bunt. At this point in his career OBP is Yelich’s premium tendency. He should be leading off.

    Projecting 200 innings of CY level performance from Ashby and Hall is unrealistic.

    Across a large swath of the game pitch calling is managed from the dugout. With so much at stake in MLB, there’s absolutely no way it’s being left to chance and choice there. The pitching coaches are making some if not all of those calls.

    Without saying as much, I was hinting to my growing unease with our manager’s apparent method of communicating with quips and vague opinions. My unsubstantiated concern is the Crew will lead the NL Central in SAC bunts and reliever appearances under his guidance.

    Is he using the eye test, or is this more like going with his gut?

    Would Ashby be a difference maker out of the pen? Fewer innings. Every outing would be on a pitch count. Lack of command might not be so problematic in a limited role.

    Most don’t last for long in the role, but many prove themselves adequate in the short term. I prefer right handed closers with big velo, a wipeout off speed pitch and questionable command. Uribe might have what it takes.
