  1. Vargas has been put into the Bullpen and will finish the year there in my opinion. Vargas has served us well this year...He has been a great fifth starter in my opinion and the team seemed to play well when he started the games.
  2. Ahhhhhhhh. I think these guys need a day off.
  3. Teach her how to score a game from the stands.... It will give her something to do and allow you to show here something that you know how to do. I think it will accellerate her learning..
  4. You can say what you want about Canseco, but without his book and some of his allegations, would we be having this discussion now, would they have the testing they have now, Would Milwaukee be in First place? I really think the steroids hurt the small market teams as players inflated their stats and got bigger contracts from big market clubs and thus it hurt the small markets.
  5. McGwire is Dave Kingman on steroids...if you put in McGwire, you have to put in Dave Kingman you hit 411 home runs without the Juice and that is probably about where McGwire would have been with out the Roids.
  6. I think Rodriguez is probably das dirty as Bonds...so I hope Canseco has a little juice on him as well. Why Rodriguez gets a pass while other players are given the cold shoulder is beyond me.
  7. The problem is not with the home runs you hit....it is with the missed opportunities you leave on the table when you swing for home runs... If home runs are a product of a good swing that happens to turn in to a home run....rather than a home run swing (going all out for a homer)...than I am ok with the home runs... But when players get that uppercut in their swing, yes they hit some home runs, but miss opportunities to score runs in other ways and their home run production then is not as important as it would be if they were taking advantage of other opportunities and just hitting home runs when they came. I am not drawing a conclusion either way with the Brewers players, but explaining that when you just look at the home runs and not at the way they are swinging the bat, you don't get a true sense if the team is missing opportunities.
  8. I Like the idea of expansion... I don't even mind that the talent level thins out a bit......
  9. Could Bush...take Cordero's spot as the Closer...that would open up Gallardo's spot. Bush Closed in College, I believe.
  10. Fairways and Greens....4-4.
  11. When you are looking are resigning any player, you have to look at the injuries they have had and decide if the injurie are likely to reoccur, affect the quality of pitching/play in the future and if the injury/overcompensation will cause other injuries. So if Sheets is healthy at the time they resign him they need to decide if his previous injuries will linger in the future or if he is ready to continue as an ACE.
  12. I had to point this out after I saw the box score tonight....I actually had a valid point in this thread..... I guess even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. edit: fixed EZ Board quote error
  13. What year did Roberto Clemente die?
  14. I am glad to see that others remember Brewers players (not just the stars, but even those who only got a cup of coffee in the bigs)....If they put on a Brewers uniform, I was once their greatest fan and appreciated the effort they gave to the organization. I sure would like to see the Brewerfan.net shirt if it featured Sebra.
  15. If Suppan can go 13-13 this year...and continue to eat innings, he will be exactly what the Brewers needed. They needed him to take his turn every 5th day...win half the games he pitches and allow the younger pitchers to develop (gallardo and Villanueva) without throwing them into the starting rotation. Had we not signed Suppan, Villanueva may have become a starter...he may have been successful, but he also may have been above average, but asked to pitch an extra inning here, an extra inning there to save the bullpen and it might have regressed his progression...Having a guy like Suppan in the rotation helps the bullpen as you can leave him in to take a beating when he doesn't have it and you don;t have to worry about it affecting his future career annd psyche for the next game. I am glad we have Suppan on this team and will be happy if the Brewers go 17-17 in his starts...That will be just what this team needed when they signed him....
  16. Does anyone remember Bob Sebra...He pitched one season for the Milwaukee Brewers and was an integral part of a brawl with the Seattle Mariners.... Sebra was suspended for his part in the brawl, but prior to receiving his suspension, he was sent to the minors....and since his suspension would have to be served when he was recalled....by the Brewers or any future organization...the suspension effectively ended his career since no team could afford to bring up a below average pitcher that had an 8 game suspension to serve before he could pitch. During this all star break, I thought it would be interesting to tell his story as he was defending his teammates on that day in the brawl and it effectively ended his career as a major leaguer as it was the last major League game he ever pitched in. June 30, 1990 Bob Sebra 0 IP, 2 H, 1 HBP, 1 Run, 1 HR, 3 batters Faced I remember Sebra getting the suspension and wondering if he ever would get a chance in the big leagues again....kind of forgot about him and then I heard his name and did a little research to find out that the game on June 30, 1990 was his last game as a MLB Pitcher and he did it inciting a brawl in Seattle.
  17. Didn't Tom Trebelhorn Dabble with something like this? For some reason I rememeber Bill Krueger and Mark Knudson pitching 5 and 4 innings on occasion... I also rememeber Trebelhorn, IIRC, discussing 3 inning pitchers and have 3 3 inning pitchers and not give them as many off days.
  18. 9-9...I will take.. The Brewers just need to keep making Par....Greens and Fairways... Make the Cubs make some birdies to catch the Brewers.
  19. not as a solution...but could Graffanino fill in out in the outfield in an emergency? He played a few games in the OF earlier in his career.... I wouldn't want to have him start any games in the outfield(unless he is serviceable, but never seeing him play in the OF I have no idea) but It might allow some flexibility if they need a couple innings out of him in an emergency/late inning double switch.(if he is capable of doing so)
  20. I look at it differently....What is your confidence level in each pitcher is on the mound....5 being most confident and 1 being scared to death. Here is how I see it. 5's (Very confident Sheets Villanueva 4's Cordero 3's Capuano Suppan Wise Gallardo 2's Turnbow Bush Vargas Shouse Spurling 1's None (although Spurling is very Close, but he is much better than what the Crew has had in the past in that position)
  21. I don't mind the idea of a neutral site, but I don't like having the gala event right before the series...there is a strong likely hood that series participants will have members that are MVP, cy young and even Rookie of the Year candidates... I don't want to see these players to have to go to an event right before the most important games of the year. As for the neutral sites, why not have just one game at a neutral site, maybe game 5 and then you could have a 2-2-(1 neutral)-2-2 series...with no home field advantage for either team.
  22. The blackout zip codes that MLB uses is crazy....In Iowa, they blackout the Brewers, Cubs, White Sox, Royals, Twins and Cardinals....They treat all 6 teams as home teams, yet you can only get one team on cable channels as a home team...To me it is crazy that Iowa has any games blacked out because there is no home team. I now live in Nebraska and there is one zip code that is blacked out for the Brewers that is in Omaha 68120....the Zip code that i have is not, so I have MLB.TV. Why would Milwaukee be considered a home team for anybody that lives in Nebraska, it is not like you can watch them on TV at all... They need to look at the zip codes that they use for Blackouts.
  23. Molitor won the vote at Second base in 1988...after all the publicitiy he got from his hitting streak in the second half of 1987,
  24. I live in Omaha and was looking forward to seeing a great pitching performance with Yo pitching tonight. Yo looked awful, tonight,,,He could not throw a strike to save his life and when he did throw a strike the Omaha Royals were spanking the Ball. Some notes that I wrote on my scorecard. In the first inning, Yo gave a up hit that snuck by Brad Nelson just inside the Bag at First Base. Yo then threw a four pitch walk and then through another four pitch walk with one of the balls being a Wild Pitch. With the Bases Loaded, Yo through one down the heart of the plate and Justin Huber absolutely crushed it to dead center over the 408 foot sign. It actually cleared the secondary fence behind the 508 sign which is about 20 feet higher than the regular fence. On the positive side, Yo struck out the next batter and sawed offed the bat of the batter after that and induced a weak fly to short center caught by the second basemen. In the Second inning, Yo Walked the first two batters on 5 and 6 pitches....and the third batter of the inning, sacrifice bunted (This really suprised me, why would you sacrifice when you have a pitcher that cannot find the strike zone) Yo followed that up with another walk to load the bases. He then Struck out Billy Butler looking on some nasty pitches and then induced a groundball to get out of the inning. In the Fifith inning Huber unloaded to left Center another Home run off Yo and it was a no doubter as well. This helped Chase YO, I believe he pitched to one more batter before he was replaced by Sarfate. The Radar gun on the screen never clocked Yo over 85 MPH...I thought maybe the Gun was a little slow as some of the pitches sure popped the Glove and you would look up and the pitch speed would say 81. Being that it is the home to the College World Series, I would think they would have high quality radar gun, but there were many times, they would not post any speed, so it might not have been working properly. There were some pitches tonight that showed me that Yo definitely has nasty stuff, but he was struggling with his control so much that the only Strikes he was throwing were directly over the plate. Hendrickson on the other hand looked unhittable for the first 6 innings....I was hoping to see a dominant pitching performance, but I was not expecting it to be Lil Ben. The Sounds did not get much done offensively with only one Extra Base hit tonight...Nothing Stood out defensively as well with. All in All it was good to see the Sounds come to town, I will not get a chance to see the next three games as we will be out of town this weekend, but I sure hope this was just one of those days for Yo and not signs of things to come.
