  1. Does anyone know when the next time is that Braun will be on TV?
  2. Only 30 more picks til our next one... gah.
  3. Looks like they are giving Lasorda easy numbers to recite. Next year, they will just draft player numbers 1, 2, 3,.... 50.
  4. It wasn't really a reach, but I still wouldn't have taken him this high. He'll hit pretty easy until he reaches AA/AAA, but he'll get tested big time there, and that's not to mention the defense. How many sons does Garth Iorg have? I swear one of his kids get drafted each year.
  5. It now sounds like the D'Backs have settled on Upton as their pick.
  6. What makes you say this? That's the latest buzz I've read cruising around the 'net. It, of course, could be wrong. BTW, BA has their final mock draft up, for whoever has access to it. They have Upton going #1. Shows what the people whose stuff I read know. Or it shows what BA knows. Either way...
  7. In the current system, they got two picks higher than their own 1st, 4 more higher than their previous second. And that makes Theo Epstein smart. New question: give me your plan for reworking the MLB draft process.
  8. I think with the current system is all comes down to the ability of the teams to trade their top-round picks. Would the Brewers and other small-market teams traded more players to get more picks? Yes, they would. What the current system tried to addres, but doesn't, is that small market teams would get more picks as they lose more migh profile players. In practice, however, the better teams keep getting picks as they lose their All-Stars to replace them with other All-Stars. Is this fair? Nope. How would you make it fair?
  9. It won't be Tulowitski. Great third baseman, but in the NL Central, you need better than just a good defensive third baseman. Rob Mackoviak plays for Pittsburgh already. And he doesn't even play third. I pick Gordon, but if not Gordon: Upton Maybin Zimmerman Romero Braun
  10. That's a good point. Though, I'd take Anderson (even with an extra day off) over anyone not named Sarfate, Eveland, or Parra.
  11. Could you (whoever you are) imagine if we won the series with Yanks? It isn't like we're the D-Rays or anything, but what a small miracle!
  12. On draft day, what a better time to have a discussion about the current draft issues. The Red Sox and Cardinals, both World Series participants, have 6 picks before the last place Brewers do. Is this system coherent? What, if anything, would you do to fix ths system? C'mon, up all night and morning with Brewerfan. Voice yourself. Belling or Sparky, where are you?
  13. Ouch... Zummy will be out for awhile. I'd have called up Anderson instead, though, in Evert the Brewers have the rare opportunity to call up the other ex-huge prospect from A+. I don't know if Evert will ever make the bigs, but he sure has the talent. Work with Leo Mazzone once...
  14. If the Brewers take Clement, I won't be that pissed. I'd rather they take Clement than Braun. Better a catcher that can almost play defense and hit than a third baseman that can almost play defense and hit.
  15. Gordon, Hardy, Weeks, Fielder. Just think about it. Jack Z. is locked in on this possibility. And what Jack wants, Jack gets.
  16. Rogers name as a favorite for the Brewers leaked out well before this point in time last year. I remember hearing Rogers' name, but I don't remember hearing his name as a favorite. Maybe it is just my memory. Up until this point last year, I remember hearing a lot of names.
  17. I don't believe that KC will take Gordon, and I don't believe the Brewers will take Braun. We've all seen the secrecy under which the Brewers operate (Mark Rogers? Ben Sheets?), and it is never who'd you'd expect. It'll be Gordon, or Tulo, or Maybin, or maybe Romero.
  18. http://www.brewerfan.net/images/articlepix/jackz.jpg Edit: BTW, if you google image Zack Z*********, this is the first pic that comes up.
  19. Sounds like the D-Backs are almost for-sure going with a pitcher for their pick, which pushes all the hitters down a notch. Is this enough to push Gordon down to the Brewers? I hope so.
  20. It almost wouldn't surprise me to see them promote Winchester to fill Mosquera's role for the time being.
  21. Alright, here we go. Who are the Brewers going to pick? This thread will close once the draft begins. Once the draft begins, Brewerfan will have pick by pick Brewer coverage for every round, with links to player stories and everything you could imagine. It is go time, Jack Z. My pick: Alex Gordon. I think the first four teams will fall into their favorite, signable guys and the Brewers will be left with the Teixiera of '05, Alex Gordon. This is a guy who could turn around the franchise's options at third base for years to come by the end of '06. It may be Loewenesque thinking, but I think he'll fall. Edit: 1. D'backs - Mike Pelfrey 2. Royals - Cameron Maybin 3. Mariners - Justin Upton 4. Nationals - Jeff Zimmerman 5. Brewers - Alex Gordon
  22. Moeller, pressed by Mosquera's presence, singles. He'll go for his next single sometime later in the month.
