Nice to see Krynzel wil 3 hits, a steal, and 3 walks. Unfortunately also a CS and 2 K's. Still that seems like a lot of walks lately. .290 in the Southern League is very nice, and David's 2003 OBP sneaks over the always-desired .360 mark at .364. Strikeouts are down -- nice. But 10 steals in 17 attempts against AA catchers leaves much to be desired. And only five extra-base hits (no HR's) among his first 31 hits doesn't invoke Steve Finley comparisons, which we've read in the past. Ryan Knox has some nice tools, but it'd be interesting to find out why Knox has hit leadoff and Krynzel second all season. Does that somehow put less pressure on David, or force him to concentrate on other skills? Does Sanchez' future presence in Milwaukee influence that decision? Not sure... We keep waiting for Krynzel to "wow us". He certainly isn't failing, and in fact, continues to improve in several key areas. I guess we're just looking for across-the-board improvements, and for that, we apparently need a bit more patience. David Krynzel YTD numbers: www.baseballamerica.com/c...er=krynzel -

Inland Empire (Mariners) 5, High Desert 2 High Desert Site Game Summary: SAN BERNARDINO, CA- The High Desert Mavericks saw their season-best, three-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday night, as the Inland Empire 66ers salvaged the final game of the three-game set, winning by a score of 5-2 at Arrowhead Credit Union Park. Dan Hall gave up two runs in the first and two in the sixth as he failed to become the California League's first five-game winner this season. Hall put forth six good innings, but received little offensive help, as the Mavs were held to a season-worst three hits on the night. The 66ers took the early lead, scoring a pair of first inning runs, as John Castellano and Rich Pohle had run-scoring hits for a 2-0 lead. The Mavs were subdued in the early going, as 66ers starting pitcher Ryan Ketchner (4-1) retired the first 13 batters, throwing a perfect 4.1 innings. The Mavs first base runner didn't come until a one-out single off the bat of Jason Belcher in the fifth. The Mavs finally got their first run of the night, when Todd West doubled with one out in the sixth inning. After moving to third on a wild pitch by Ketchner, West scored on a ground ball to third by Johnny Raburn. The 66ers would take a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth, as Hall surrendered two more runs. Shin Soo Choo walked to lead off the inning, then scored on a Castellano single to make it 3-1. After Pohle was hit by a pitch, and Hunter Brown singled, Castellano scored on a sacrifice fly from Evel Bastida. They added one more, getting a run off of Kenny Ray in the eighth, as Castellano doubled and scored on Brown's sacrifice fly. The Mavs made things interesting in the ninth, as Raburn and Chris Morris walked to lead off the inning. After Daryl Clark lined out to left, Kade Johnson knocked in Raburn to pull to within three runs at 5-2. After reliever Russ Morgan was lifted in favor of closer Mike Steele with the tying run at the plate, Jason Belcher grounded into a game-ending double play. Steele earned his eighth save of the year by mopping up. Johnson's RBI gives him 30, tying him with Clark for the team lead. The Mavs return home on Friday to face Stockton. LHP Brian Mazone (0-2) takes on Jason Andrew of the Ports at 7:05 (9:05 Central). INDIANAPOLIS: RHP Dave Burba in his Tribe debut at Norfolk (Mets), 11:15 AM HUNTSVILLE: LHP Derek Lee and RHP Pedro Liriano in a double-dip at Chattanooga (Reds) at 5:00 PM; remember former farmhand SS Santiago Perez? HIGH DESERT: RHP Dan Hall looks for win #5 when the Mavs look to continue their newfound winning ways on the road when they battle the evil Inland Empire (that's San Bernadino, Mariners) at 9:05 PM. BELOIT: RHP Luis Pena at West Michigan (Tigers), 5:35 PM EZBoard ate an hour's worth of my editing on the Alumni thread the other night; I'll be more careful and try another update soon; a whole bunch of guys have recently signed independent league deals and some have begun play. Look for all former Brewers now active in the major leagues to be added with links as well, thanks to the research of pogokat and others.... -

Indianapolis Media Notes for Wednesday: TONIGHT: The Indians and Tides meet for game three of this four-game series. The teams have split the first two meetings. Last year, the Indians went 2-10 against the Tides. The Tribe dropped all six contests at Victory Field and went 2-4 at Harbor Park. The Indians look to put back-to-back wins together for the first time since a four-game winning streak from April 9-12. Other than that four-game streak, the Tribe has not won consecutive games all season. The Indians will have to accomplish the feat against a lefthanded starter. The Tribe is 0-8 against southpaws and are hitting just .219. Mark Smith (.379) and Wilton Veras (.333) are the Tribe's top hitters against lefties. The Tribe roster remains at 22. The Indians had just three player moves the first three weeks of the season, but beginning last Monday lost six players in four days. Since Thursday the Indians have added pitchers Shane Nance, Robert Marquez, Nate Teut and Dave Burba. Nance and Teut are the Tribe's first lefties on the pitching staff this season. YESTERDAY: The Indians beat Norfolk for the first time since last May 31 - a stretch of nine straight losses. The Tribe plated a season-high 11 runs on a season-high 17 hits. It was the first time the Tribe had scored more than 10 runs since July 4 of last season. In 2002, the Indians scored 10 or more runs just three times. Bill Hall, Joe Lawrence and Veras each went 3-for-5 and scored two runs to lead the Tribe. Jason Conti hit his team-leading fourth home run in a 2-for-4 night. Francisco Campos turned in seven solid innings to earn the win. He allowed two runs on a walk and seven hits. ON THE MOUND: Righthander David Manning makes his third start and eighth appearance. He moved into the rotation on April 23 and in two starts has allowed two earned runs in 10.1 innings (1.74 ERA). Manning is coming off a seven-inning performance at Richmond last Friday where he gave up one run on five hits and two walks. He fanned seven as he earned his first win. HOT AT THE PLATE: Two Indians boast batting averages above .300. Mark Smith leads the team with a .333 mark and a team-high eight-game hitting streak. Smith has hit safely in 19 of his last 21 games (.351, 27-for-77) and leads the team with 13 RBI and seven multi-hit games. Mark Budzinski is hitting .312. Over his last 13 games, Budzinski is hitting .302 (13-for-43). Five Indians are hitting better than .300 on this road trip. Pete Zoccolillo has a five-game hitting streak during which he is hitting .368 (7-for-19) with four doubles and four RBI. PITCHERS AT THE PLATE: The Indians are eight games into a stretch of 10 straight games where pitchers bat for themselves. Tribe hurlers are 4-for-24 with 10 strikeouts and three sacrifices so far this season. The pitchers have hit safely in three of the last four games. LONG BALL PROBLEMS: The Indians have hit 18 home runs which ranks 11th in the IL while the pitching staff has surrendered a league-high 35 long balls. A ROUGH 'ROAD' TO HOE: The Tribe opens the season with 22 of its first 32 games on the road. The Indians are 6-14 away from Victory Field. The Indians are hitting .224 on the road and have scored 69 runs (3.5 rpg). Four of the Tribe's 11 position players are hitting below .200 on the road. The Indians are hitting .288 on this trip and have scored 28 runs (4.7 rpg). Five Indians are hitting above .300. TROUBLE IN THE FIELD: The Indians have committed 27 errors which is sixth-most in the IL. Twenty-two of those have come on the road leading to 27 unearned runs. UPCOMING PROBABLES: Thursday at Norfolk - RHP Dave Burba (1-3, 2.05) vs. RHP Jeremy Griffiths (1-2, 1.99) Friday vs. Buffalo - TBA vs. RHP Pasqual Coco (2-4, 5.17) Saturday vs. Buffalo - TBA vs. LHP Nate Teut (0-1, 7.20) Sunday vs. Buffalo - TBA vs. RHP Francisco Campos (2-3, 5.80) -

From the SportsTicker / BA Daily Highlights: INLAND EMPIRE (CAL) RHP KAZUHIRO SASAKI started his rehab assignment and pitched a scoreless inning for the 66ers, but did not figure in the decision in an eventual 8-5 loss to the High Desert Mavericks. Sasaki, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a back injury, struck out the first batter he faced, induced a groundout to the shortstop, issued a base-on-balls and struck out the final batter to complete the inning. Selected as an American League All-Star last season, Sasaki was 1-1 with four saves and a 9.00 ERA this season before being placed on the disabled list on April 23. High Desert C KADE JOHNSON hit a two-run double to snap a 5-5 tie in the top of the 11th inning. Johnson, who is batting .331, has hit nine homers and driven in 29 runs in just 29 games this season. HUNTSVILLE (SOU) 3B COREY HART hit two homers and drove in a career-high seven runs to lead the Stars to a 10-3 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts. Hart, who had not recorded a hit in his previous eight at-bats, singled in two runs in the third frame to give Huntsville a 3-1 lead. After flying out to center field in his next at-bat, the 11th-round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2000 crushed a grand slam to cap a five-run seventh and added a solo homer in his final at-bat to close out the scoring for the Stars. Including last night's offensive outburst, the 21-year-old Kentucky native has a .298 batting average and has knocked in a team-leading 29 RBI. -

Huntsville Site Game Summary: Quote on Hart from Sandy Guerrero, too... www.huntsvillestars.com/n...?newsid=55 David Weiser's Huntsville Update: IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHTComing in on the heels of a harrowing bus ride, rain beating down on their bus like a meteor storm as it rode through the threatening dark grey sky, the Stars caught a break in the weather and decimated the Lookouts with a lightning bolt borrowed from the trip....... On an absolutely still night at Chattanooga's BellSouth Park, the Stars exploded for 4 home runs, the most in one game since August 18, 2001 against the Smokies. But it was the single-handed work of Corey Hart that inflicted most of the punishment --- 2 home runs, including a grand-slam that put the game away in the 7th inning and 7 RBIs. The 7th inning began with the Stars nursing a 3-2 lead..... John Koronka, wilting in the humidity, gave way to Casey DeHart, who immediately walked Dave Krynzel......... Richard Paz, who next to J.J. Hardy, probably has the best eye at the plate for the Stars, walked on four pitches. Ryan Gripp scores and the score is 4-2........ One Hart comes in. Dehart goes out......... Corey, the team's best RBI man and 2nd best in the league, had a 2-out, 2-run single in the 3rd inning to break up a 1-1 tie, and stood at the plate looking for more....... Without the whisper of a wind, Hart launched reliever Dave Therneau's 2-2 pitch, a hanging breaking ball, off the scoreboard for a grand-slam HR, his 2nd of the season. Another Stars victory for the second coming of Mark McGwire.. The Stars go to 18-12 and remain three games in front in the Western Division race. They have won 7 of their last 10....... On paper before the season began, we were the team to beat and the Stars have gone out and proven it and if 1st place is Olympus, then Corey Hart is our god of war........ Before the game was over, Hart added one more shot........ In the top of the 9th, Hart went for the moon with a towering shot into a still sky in left field for his 2nd HR of the game and his 7th RBI, the most by a Stars player since Pete Zoccolillo had his 3-HR day vs. the Smokies last August ....... Though it was Hart's show, it was a field day for some other Stars hitters........ Brandon Gemoll hit a 0-1 pitch off John Koronka in the 2nd inning that appeared to hit off the Victory Chevrolet sign in right-center field. Gemoll rounded second then headed back, thinking he had a ground-rule double when he saw umpire Tyler Bolick make the circular motion with his hand....... The press box, puzzled because they believed they saw the ball hit the sign, was told it had hit the light pole above the sign, instead....... Chris Barnwell blasted his 2nd HR in as many games in the 8th inning. He's the first hitter to do that since Keith Luuloa homered in three consecutive games last August. Stars lefty Luis Martinez once again had to get the wildness out of his system, his worst since walking four and hitting a batter in his first start on April 5, but he managed to pitch his way out of jam after jam with his slider, breaking ball, and fastball and some slick infield defense, keepng his ERA under 1.00 at a league-leading 0.86........ Matt Childers struck out 5 in relief, a personal high in his three seasons with the Stars........ Hart now has 29 RBI in 28 games, far and above the best RBI man on the Stars. Only league leading hitter Miguel Cabrera of the Carolina Mudcats has more RBI than games played in the league. Hart made his 1st error in 11 games, but in an inning where the Stars made two in the 4th, neither hurt them........ He won't win the Gold Glove there right now, but he's improving......... The Stars are 6-3 since J.J. Hardy left the lineup with a strained hip flexor muscle. J.J., by the way, is restless and anxious to get back into action, hoping to play at the end of this current series, but more realistically, it will be sometime when the team goes to Jackson........ Ben Hendrickson's next start has been pushed back to May 11. That's because Mike Jones will miss his turn tomorrow against Chattanooga because of a cut on the finger of his throwing hand. Derek Lee (3-0, 2.45) will make his 3rd start of the year. The Stars will get their second look at Josh Hall (1-3, 2.83), who went 6 innings, giving up 4 hits in an 8-3 victory for the Lookouts last week. -

Beloit 4, West Michigan (Tigers) 3 Snappers win another close one; Wilhelmsen (4-0) and Breslow combine nicely... West Michigan Site Game Summary: COMSTOCK PARK, MI - For the West Michigan Whitecaps, the last eight games have been decided by one run. Unfortuntely for the 'Caps they have been on the losing side of seven of them. Despite some early offense and right fielder Brent Clevlen's second homer of the year, the 'Caps lost to the Snappers 4-3. The 'Caps started early as second baseman Juan Francia scored on a groundout by Wilton Reynolds in the bottom of the first. Brent Clevlen led off the second inning with a solo homer over the Batteries Plus Deck for his second home run of the year but it wouldn't be enough. With his father Cecil in town, Snappers first baseman Prince Fielder hit a two-RBI triple in the top of the third to give Beloit the lead for good. The 'Caps have not beaten Beloit at Fifth Third Ballpark since the 2000 season, a series of ten straight losses. They will try again Wednesday night in the third game versus Beloit. Scheduled starters are Humberto Sanchez (2-3, 2.70) for the 'Caps and Dennis Sarfate (2-0, 1.96) for the Snappers. Surprisingly, OF Stephen Hunt has been placed on the voluntarily retired list, off of the Helena roster. Hunt was the Brewers' 35th round draft pick in 2001 out of Chandler-Gilbert Communtiy College in Arizona, which has been a pipeline for Brewer farmhands recently. He wasn't signed until just prior to the 2002 draft as a "draft and follow" candidate. Hunt, now 21 years old, then went on to have a nice year with the Arizona Rookie League team, hitting .290 with an .847 OPS. Late in the year, he tag-teamed with Steve Moss to give the Ogden Pioneer League team some late-season help. The rookie levels of the Brewers' system will need an infusion of outfield help via the draft. Currently, Manuel Melo, Tommy Carrow, and Francisco Plasencia are on the Helena roster. There are four young OF's on the Arizona roster, with Dallas Bates, who saw significant time with Arizona last year, the most likely candidate to help out in Helena. It's not worth speculating at this time about the reasons behind Hunt's retirement. Maybe we'll see him back at some point. All five runs crossed the plate in the first two innings. For the first time in five games the Indians did not score first. The Tides (17-11) took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning. Jose Reyes led off with a double to left. Former Indianapolis Indian Marco Scutaro sacrificed Reyes to second, and Russ Johnson lofted a sacrifice fly to right to drive him in. The Indians (10-19) tied the game in the second when Keith Luuloa belted his first home run of the season. For Luuloa, who was 3-for-4 Sunday against Richmond, it was his first homer at Triple-A since the 2001 season. Tribe starter Nate Teut (0-1) created his own problems in the bottom of the second as Norfolk plated three runs to take the lead for good. Teut, who was 0-4 with a 9.50 ERA for two teams in the Pacific Coast League before joining the Indians over the weekend, walked Jorge Toca to start the second. Prentice Redman then bunted back to the mound, but Teut threw the ball into right field to put runners on second and third with nobody out. The 6'7" lefthander then walked Virgil Chevalier to load the bases. Esix Snead blooped a single into left-center to drive home Toca with the winning run. Two ground outs plated another run and advanced Snead to third. As Teut made a pick-off throw to first, Snead stole home for the final Norfolk run. For Snead, it was his 10th stolen base of the season. Norfolk leads the IL with 43 stolen bases in 49 attempts. The Indians got back-to-back singles in both the seventh and eighth innings but couldn't push any runs across. Jason Roach (1-1) earned the win with five innings of work, while three relievers closed it out. Tribe first baseman Mark Smith singled in the eighth to extend his team-leading hitting streak to eight games. Game two of the four-game set is Tuesday night at Harbor Park. Brewer Minor League Players of the Month for April: No surprises here... OF Daryl Clark and LHP Luis Martinez earned the Milwaukee Brewers Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month awards for April. Clark hit .375 with 11 HR and 26 RBI for Class A High Desert. Martinez was 3-1 with a 0.31 ERA in 29 innings for Double-A Huntsville. He struck out 38 and held opponents to a .134 average. Indianapolis Media Notes: TONIGHT: The Indians final stop on this eight-game road trip is in Norfolk. The Tribe meet the Tides for the first time this season. Last year, the Indians went just 2-10 against the Tides. The Tribe dropped all six contests at Victory Field and went 2-4 at Harbor Park. The Indians have lost eight straight to Norfolk with the last win coming May 31. The Indians are undefeated (1-0) on Mondays. YESTERDAY: The Indians beat Richmond 4-2 to gain a split of the four-game series. Keith Luuloa went 3-for-4 with 2 R and a RBI, and Pete Zoccolillo went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Pasqual Coco earned the win allowing two runs in 6.1 innings. ON THE MOUND: The Indians will start a lefty on the mound for the first time this season. Nate Teut makes his Tribe debut after being purchased from Iowa Friday. Teut was 0-1 with a 7.56 ERA in two starts for Albuquerque before being released on April 15. He signed with Iowa the next day and went 0-3 with a 11.17 ERA in three starts. Teut worked five innings in two of his starts allowing two earned runs both times. HOT AT THE PLATE: Two Indians boast batting averages above .300. Mark Budzinski tops the team with a .343 mark. Over his last 11 games, Budzinski is hitting .361 (13-for-36). Mark Smith is hitting .338 with a team-high seven-game hitting streak. Smith has hit safely in 18 of his last 20 games (.356, 26-for-73) and leads the team with 13 RBI and seven multi-hit games. PITCHERS AT THE PLATE: The Indians are four games into a stretch of 10 straight games where pitchers bat for themselves. Tribe hurlers are 2-for-18 with nine strikeouts and three sacrifices so far this season. LONG BALL PROBLEMS: The Indians have hit 16 home runs which ranks 12th in the IL while the pitching staff has surrendered a league-high 32 long balls. The staff has tightened the belt recently and has not allowed a home run in the last five games. A ROUGH 'ROAD' TO HOE: The Tribe opens the season with 22 of its first 32 games on the road. The Indians are 5-13 away from Victory Field. The Indians are hitting .208 on the road and have scored just 57 runs (3.2 rpg). Six of the Tribe's 12 position players are hitting below .200 on the road. The Indians are hitting .256 on this trip and have scored 16 runs (4.0 rpg). TROUBLE IN THE FIELD: The Indians have committed 26 errors which is fifth-most in the IL. Twenty-one of those have come on the road leading to 27 unearned runs. UPCOMING PROBABLES: Tuesday at Norfolk - RHP Francisco Campos (1-3, 6.59) vs. RHP Pat Strange (3-0, 2.13) Wednesday at Norfolk - RHP David Manning (1-0, 2.50) vs. LHP Mike Bacsik (0-2, 6.63) Thursday at Norfolk - RHP Dave Burba (1-3, 2.05) vs. TBA

See, now this is what a perfectly written game story tells you that a box score can't: Failure to get down a bunt, missing signs twice (while daydreaming?), wind shifts and their affects on HR balls, catcher's throw sailing into left field, two runners picked off (while leading off innings!), failure to slide on a steal of second, one obviously upset manager, and a partridge in a pear tree.. See, now you know why you should cherish the game stories and quotes, and why Brewerfan helps link you to more than just the box scores! And you thought it was just your run-of-the-mill extra-inning loss here... Beloit Daily News Game Story: www.beloitdailynews.com/503/snap5.htm -

Technically, these moves are from March... The Brewers finally managed to arrange for SportsTicker to get a Helena roster onto their own site. Of course, we've always had it here, but based on the Brewers' own posting, we were able to cross-check, which prompted us to ask about the following players, and the Brewers were kind enough to give us an immediate response -- thanks!! RHP Carl Michaels - Voluntarily Retired during Spring Training That's too bad, as the 21-year-old from South Africa had posted decent numbers in Arizona, Ogden, and Beloit with a 3.31 ERA, 59 K's and only 14 BB's in 65.1 IP over the past two seasons. With the earlier release of fellow South African Paul Bell, 17-year-old infielder Jonathan Phillips will be the only player from this untapped player pool in the organization this spring. Maybe Michaels was homesick.... SS Wilber Montano - DSL roster for 03; initially this newcomer was assigned to the Arizona roster C Matt Serafini - Released during Spring Training The 23-year-old Serafini, the Brewers' 43rd round pick in 2001, apparently became a victim of the young catcher crunch in the system... LHP Julio Jimenez - Released during Spring Training The 21-year-old Dominican had a 3.75 ERA in 127.1 IP over four seasons, three in Dominican ball (the first two in the Reds' system), and one season in Arizona. We're guessing that his 101 walks in those 127.1 IP had something to do with this release, despite good H/IP and K/IP ratios. -

Daily Menu : Light fare today -- hope you're not too hungry... INDIANAPOLIS: at Norfolk (Mets), 6:15 PM Central; we're guessing that newly-acquired 6'7" LHP Nate Teut will get the start; he last pitched on Monday the 28th as mentioned below... UNHAPPY HOMECOMING: Nate Teut?s return to Albuquerque didn?t go as well as planned as he was roughed up by his former teammates. Teut could not get through the second inning as he allowed three home runs and seven earned runs in 1.1 innings of work. It could also be new Tribe member Dave Burba, but not sure when the veteran last pitched for Buffalo... HUNTSVILLE: Idle HIGH DESERT: Idle BELOIT: It's odd how both Huntsville and Beloit will play back-to-back home-and-home series this week, in effect, eight-game series. The Snappers are at West Michigan (Tigers); no online audio for the 5:35 PM Central time start. Starting pitcher is listed as TBA, although if LHP Manny Parra gets the nod, he'd be pitching on normal four days' rest. -

David Weiser's Huntsville News: Includes the injury updates... 2-OUT RALLIES DOOM STARSChattanooga has one of the most powerful lineups in the league (2nd in HRs). Good hitters seem to grow there. In the past five years, four Chattanooga hitters have won batting titles, including the Brewers' Brady Clark, although a Lookout player has not won a home run title since 1992....... This year seems to no exception, so there's little room for error by a pitching staff or by the defense. You can't afford to give this team too many breaks......... That's just what the Stars did on this sunny, warm and breezy Sunday afternoon........ Seven walks and an error. Eight runs with two out, three runs the result of a throwing error by Ryan Gripp, three as the result, direct or indirect, of a walk......... So the Stars wind up with a split with one of the worse teams in the league, instead of a sweep, or at least 3 of 4........ The Stars will get a day off, then travel to BellSouth Park and play four more with Chattanooga starting Tuesday. Pedro Martinez (3-1, 0.75) will match up with John Koronka (2-2, 3.19). Now I'll note that this was a Freudian slip by David, listing Pedro Martinez, but the way Luis has been pitching, it's easy to see why this happened http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Ben Diggins had an 11-pitch, 1-2-3 first inning, a harmless 15-pitch second inning, letting Chris Haas reach 2nd on a stolen base, and looked to be clear of the 3rd, after getting Ray Olmedo and Bobby Basham out on a 1-2 fly out to left, and a 1-2 grounder to third........ But then Diggins went 3-and-0 on Wilmy Caceres, who then ripped a fast ball to center. Alejandro Diaz then got hold of an 0-and-1 slider and pulled it in the direction of Ryan Gripp, but Gripp's throw was short and off-target to Brandon Gemoll, who tried to dig it out of the dirt....... With the wind blowing out to left, Guye Senjem (who is not a Dutch product. He was born and lives in Minnesota) sent a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right that Cristian Guerrero helplessly watched. In the 4th, Diggins gave up a leadoff walk to Dernell Stenson and retired Reed Secrist and Ray Olmedo, but then perhaps because of a breakdown in mechanics, fell into a streak of wildness, walking three straight hitters. The final walk to Caceres forced in Stenson and an infield single by Diaz scored Olmedo to make it 5-1........ Digs got out of the inning, but that was all for his day. Ryan Miller came in and had a relatively easy time of it in the 5th and 6th innings, allowing a pair of runners to second. Like Diggins, it looked like he would get through the 7th, even though he allowed a leadoff walk to Senjem, but with two out Chris Haas singled to short on his first pitch, sending Senjem to third and Reed Secrist pulled a pitch into the wind that just cleared the wall near the 345 marker in left field. The Lookouts now had an 8-1 lead. "All it takes is a few runs to get back in this ballgame" ....... Those, in essence, are the words of crazed optimism I heard from Robert Portnoy. I'm impressed with anyone who can sound that hopeful on the radio, and Robert does a good job in keeping the game alive when all appears to be lost. It seems like he has the power to defiantly create a comeback into happening........ It looked like it would....... With Paul Darnell in as the new pitcher, the Stars scored quickly, as Dave Krynzel walked, Richard Paz singled to center, and Gemoll singled to right to score Krynzel....... With one out, Guerrero hit a bouncer to Stenson. He threw the ball away trying to throw out Gemoll advancing to second. The lead runner, Paz, scored......... Then with two runners on, light-hitting Chris Barnwell found the air stream and parked a ball just over the Admiral sign in left field, about 350 feet from home plate to make it 8-6........ The Stars have come from behind to win seven times this season. The excitement in Portnoy's voice validated his optimism, but that was all as Scott Dunn and David Gil retired the last four Huntsville batters in the game. The maligned Lookout pitching staff held the Stars to a .216 average in this series. The Lookouts held the hot-hitting Cristian Guerrero to 1-for-15 in this series. He was 8-for-19 in his six previous games....... Matt Hammons is unscored upon in his last four relief apperarances.... ....... Spotted Ben Hendrickson wearing an appliance on his forearm, but he is still on schedule to return to the rotation when the Stars return home from Chattanooga to face the Tennessee Smokies next weekend....... J.J. Hardy is scheduled to return to action later in the week when the Stars go to Pringles Park to face the Diamond Jaxx.
