Helena Box Score: Another error-free, well-pitched, game from this group with solid offense -- you've got to love what we've seen at this level thus far; Washington State 1B product Grant Richardson a man among boys; after reading articles out of San Antonio two years ago about then-high school LHP Edwin Walker, he was a favorite draft pick of mine at the time -- excited about his injury bounce-back in the early going here; and yes, I'm probably going to tout 17-year-old SS Alcides Escobar every day this summer -- get used to it ... Arizona Rookie Box Score: 20-year-old catcher Nestor Corredor is apparently very strong defensively -- he was the emergency choice for two games in Huntsville early this season -- subsequently assigned to Helena, he is now in Arizona, where his defensive skills may have been needed based on some of the struggles we saw behind the plate in earlier Arizona box scores. Corredor's hit into some poor luck as well, however, now a combined 1-for-29 (two sacrifice bunts, one sacrifice fly, two walks, only five K's). That leaves us asking -- where's 2003 5th round catcher Bryan Opdyke? RHP Jeff Garner, the 24-year-old signed from the independent ranks recently, takes the loss here. He's expected to be moved to Beloit or even High Desert at some point; 1B Carlos Gallardo is now 6-for-12, 2B Hernan Iribarren is 6-for-14... Final: Inland Empire (Mariners) 8, High Desert 5 Mavs were all set up to move over .500 -- sigh -- High Desert Box Score: RHP Khalid Ballouli twirls a beauty; 2B Callix Crabbe with a HR and two triples -- wow! -- but it was Crabbe's error that helped open the floodgates in the 9th; even so, still have to blame Homero Rivera there; 3B Troy Farnsworth has provided some production (4 HR, 17 RBI), but that 12-for-75 isn't the veteran presence the 28-year-old was supposed to provide in Jeff Eure's absence; 17 errors in 66 games for SS Enrique Cruz this year -- not good... Perfect Plan: Matt Wise takes Wes Obermueller's next scheduled turn in Coors Field -- ohmygod, won't that Obermueller stat line be pretty! That way Mr. Hendrickson won't start in Coors Field, where Wise's change-up just might do the trick. Then pitch Ben H. in the doubleheader Friday at Pittsburgh. Oh, and I'm sure it's asking too much to have Corey debut in Pittsburgh as well -- let's not mess him up with Colorado swings. So that's it then - Friday, July 2nd. One, or both, had better be in Brewer uniforms. Seriously... -

First time this year, purposely bailing out on a game for no good reason. And yes, I hung around for the entire 9-0 deficit / comeback vs. the Reds. My official lack of Hart and Hendrickson symbol of displeasure. -

Wes' ERA through four innings for this game -- 6.75 Right on target. Now I worry that because Hart and Hendrickson were named All-Stars, they won't be brought up before late July. Fudge. -

Have you ever felt less confident of a possible victory down 2-0 in the 4th inning in your life? For god's sake, just get this one over with. -

Perhaps just a Sports Network technicality, but High Desert LHP / DH Eric Henderson is now officially listed as a position player on the Maverick roster. Henderson, the 2000 4th round pick, will be 25 years old in September. With regular offensive playing time, if he could become a useful stick who could also come on as a lefty reliever (with a wicked pickoff move), I'm all for it. I know Toby has voiced some displeasure, and the other High Desert bench players probably aren't thrilled, but if the Brewers are willing to commit to the move and really give it a shot, why the heck not. You've got 4th round money invested in the guy. Goodness knows Eric'd have value on the short Huntsville position player bench as of now. And just for reference's sake, here's Henderson's less-than-spectacular offensive and mound numbers for 2004: www.baseballamerica.com/c...rson%2C+er -

It now is clear that middle infielder Wandel Campana has been signed to help plug a shortstop gap at Beloit, and will share time with Josh Murray there. This, because SS Gilberto Acosta has been moved down to Helena. The 21-year-old Acosta gave fans of the Arizona Rookie box scores a real show last summer, hitting .349 in 189 AB's, and stealing 30 bases in 33 attempts (50 games). The slightly built switch-hitter from Venezuela jumped Helena this spring and began play in Beloit, but struggled, hitting .167 in 132 AB's, only one SB (can't steal first), and only three extra-base hits, all doubles (a .423 OPS -- ouch). Last season the Brewers had to go the independent league route with an under-performing Chas Terni playing in 106 games. This year looks to be another gap year in the system at the position at Beloit, and since Josh Murray's taken enough board heat today (imcumbent with his second round status), I'll stop here except to say that I'd love to see Alcides Escobar man the spot next year as an 18-year-old. -

What's impressive here is that as with most AAA All-Star rosters, true young prospects only dot the roster to a small degree -- lots of 27+ year-olds on that International League squad, with only about ten of 28 players younger. But we know that at least two are Brewer young prospects http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . -

For some reason I felt this belonged in the major league forum tonight. I wish I knew something you guys didn't. Friday night's Indianapolis Pre-Game Notes include the following nuggets: Corey Hart is tied for seventh in the International League in extra-base hits (32). Corey Hart is hitting .358 when leading off an inning, .308 with runners in scoring position with two outs, and .375 with the bases loaded. Since June 16, Corey Hart has hit .393 (11 for 28) with three homers and nine RBI. During the entire month of June, he has hit .329 with five homers and 16 RBI. I won't bore (or excite) you with Hart's career numbers, his career path where he flourished when skipping Beloit altogether, his age, his no longer in danger of "super two" arbitration status or more Brady Clark futility numbers -- you know the deal.
