  1. Broxton plays great D and has speed. Late inning replacement could be his specialty. He'll be cheap for a few years yet. He should be in the mix for playing time over the next few years. However, if Brinson or Phillips outplays him, they should start or play more.
  2. I didn't like Villar's baserunning in 2016; it became much better after CC sat him down in August.
  3. I think it's funny that Brewers fans deride the Cardinals and their fans for all that "play the game the right way" and "the Cardinal Way" stuff, but as soon as we get a few players who play the game with some exuberance and flair and excitement, we want our players to "play the game the right way" and such. I love me a good bat flip, FWIW. I can't even imagine a pitcher in MLB who's head wouldn't outright explode if a player did something like that. Anyways....... I'm getting off topic. It'd just be nice if everyone at least pretended to want every Brewer player to be successful, even if only to improve their trade value.... I love flair and emotion..... has nothing to do why Villar should play less and Sogard more. Insulting as a Wisconsinite. Does "playing the right way" include batting .210 lead off with avg defense and a low on base %?

  5. If THIS is what you're referring to, it sounds as though he just cares and wants to rebound. Good for him. I don't understand why there always has to be one player on this team that everyone has to be so negative about when it comes to just about anything. I am not referring to Rick's comment alone, but in a general sense. Can't people ever hope he improves or get happy when he has a nice game? Nope just complete silence when he does something good and the comments come out of the woodworks when he does something bad. I could understand all the negativity if we was lazy or acted like he didn't care, but jesh Villar goes out there every day 100%. No Brewers player in 2017 has been given more leash than Villar. No one even close.... He has more at bats than anybody. He leads off most games, even against lefties in which his stats are even worse. Why he believes he needs to get clarification on why he isn't playing on a certain day ( now, I don't know the whole nature of the entire meeting) is beyond me. He is hitting poorly enough to of course not lead off, but also to get substantially less playing time. CC keeps leading him off many games and plays him almost everyday. The better question is what more can Sogard possibly do... the man should play daily until he cools down a bit. Sogard should be banging on CC's door.
  6. Deeeeep roster.... regulars have to push it on night games in June just to keep at bats. Decent or better options at every position.
  7. Villar asked CC why he didn't play Sunday.... get a clue.
  8. Career .300 hitter vs. righties??? Not good? Maybe a good platoon player instead of a good everyday 2Bman.
  9. Barnes is comparable- throw hard, good strikeout pitches, young, controllable..
  10. Never heard of "lingering issues" with Sogard's knee from CC or Stearns....... just conjecture repeated from Rock/BA. How come Sogard is so easily looked at as fringe player, but Guerra is our late blooming "ace"? Just play Sogard until he cools off. I remember Brady Clark leading off a year or two really well; then he was just a guy. Play Villar down in order, and keep getting him at bats. Don't bury him yet. I can see him getting hot later this year. Villar can be a big SB threat in late innings, as well. Sogard had over 1300 PA of major league mediocrity before this year and has 53 great PA this year. Guerra had 4 innings of major league experience before last year and has been pretty good since. Big difference. Huh? Very little difference more like... Sogard was actually in the majors, and Guerra wasn't good enough to make it to the majors from 2011-2015. So major league experience is a negative? Guerra was called up, played well for 3/4 of the season and is playing well after injury now. Sogard was called up and is playing well (actually Sogard has raked all season, AAA as well). Both are "old" guys trying to make their next few seasons the best. My point was/is that these kind of unproven late bloomers are in the same boat. They may do really well for a year or two or more, or they probably will not. Yet many want to limit Sogard to get more at bats for Villar (all this future talk) when one is playing clearly better than the other. Yet the same type of player in Guerra can be the steady rock pitcher, pitching every fifth day, with no talk ( which I am fine with) of letting younger pitchers that appear to be ready (Woodruff, maybe Hader) get some of his starts/innings..... a bit of a double standard. If you don't want Sogard starting almost daily, why be ok with Guerra when he probably isn't part of the future? Is it just about team control? Is it about flipping Guerra at the deadline?
  11. I'm guessing that you haven't been married 25 years... This sounds like a college date. Not quite....
  12. At the game last night (Phillips first)- a couple thoughts.... The largely quiet crowd was surprising loud after BP's first career hit. I was sitting and clapping. Many were standing and cheering loudly, not typical for the avg.rookie. Why is this? Do they see him as a fan favorite, funny man? Do they view him as the future in CF? Both? Neither? We could use another OF on the roster, and his arm/D fills a need with Braun out. My guess is that Franklin's days are numbered. Then again, Franklin could be this year's Captain Kirk.
  13. It is starting to look like Hader will be our lefty in the pen IF we are in it late in the season. Wang could be up soon, as well.
  14. I'll take that one back....
  15. Often talked about in positive terms from 2008-2011, team leaders were evident. In 2008, Cameron, Kendall, CC, Durham, and Torres come to mind. In 2011, Fielder was the team sheriff and leader, along with backup veterans. In 2014, the lack of veteran leadership or outspoken leadership was debated and criticized. This year, although not talked about much, big guys like Aguilar and Thames seem to have the respect of many. They play hard, celebrate, seem highly social and involved with their teammates, and get rightly upset when things go bad. If I had to pick two captains this year, those would be the two. Braun and Garza are there too, but more on the fringe.
  16. If in Toronto and since you have to go thru the hassle of passport, I'd go to Niagara Falls for a day.
  17. Not sure if this needs to be said since we all know, but we have team control of most of our players for 5 plus years. That means most of our young guys will improve, and our 30 year oldish guys doing well aren't going anywhere any time soon, except in trade.
  18. Hoping to see Sogard a lot the rest of the series
  19. Why not have somebody - ANYBODY - up, just in case Torres bombs? How could any of the guys still out there be worse? Agreed .....two walks and a hit would have at least had a human being up and ready in my pen.
  20. Don't get me wrong, that was a terrible play, but it was still followed by walk, single, walk, homerun. We lost because of terrible pitching. Crowd would be on its feet with two outs and the whole setting shifts....
  21. Head to Madison.... Go to the zoo (free) 1 hour Tour the capitol (free) 1 hour Eat at The Old-Fashioned Stay at the Staybridge on the east side. Eat at Prime Quarters. Catch a movie..... Tons of biking trails in and out of town, as well.
