  1. Gomez again...... Thrown out in 9th down 2 Gets kicked out on the right (and reviewed) call Doesn't leave dugout immediately after being thrown out Sickening and Sad
  2. I like to tell people that I saw THE best game in the history of Miller Park when Nyger Morgan singled in Carlos Gomez in the 10th inning of Game 5 of the 2011 NLDS against Arizona. The atmosphere was electric and tense! The whole game from start to finish was close. One swing, one wild pitch, one error, and the Diamondbacks could have easily won..... hence a pretty great game. Plus, it gave the Brewers its first playoff series win since Pete Ladd finished Games 5 against the Angels in the ALCS of 1982. Throw in that it was a walk-off win, it tops the list for me. I got to thinking of what would be the #2 game in Miller Park's history... and #3, #4. I immediately threw out Zambrano's no hitter because of the team he is affiliated with, needless to say. I looked at the 2008 playoff win and the 4 2011 playoff wins. I remembered back to big moments in the regular season, walk-off wins, big end of the season wins, and great Brewer performances. Here's my top 4: #1 2011 NLDS Game 5 (Besides the point, I caught a BP home run ball in left field; sat with my dad) http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/17343/frantic-finish-brewers-win-thriller #2 2008 Last game of season vs. Cubs-- CC goes distance, Braun hits go ahead 2 run HR in 8th, and Brewers get to playoffs (after watching Marlins beat Mets on scoreboard) for the first time since 1982. To say Brewers fans were excited..... is a severe understatement. #3 2011 NLCS Game 1 For me this is the height of the Brewers 2011 season..... well, the height of the Brewers history from 1983 to 2015. They are beating the Cardinals in a playoff series, a series that, if won, would get them to the World Series. The game? Brewers are down 3 (Greinke pitching) when they explode to take the lead in the 5th with 5 extra base hits (only 2nd time done in MLB postseason history). Fielder's ROCKET HR pulls the Brewers ahead, and the Crew goes on to win 9-6. Unbelievable offensive output against a great Cardinal staff.... Comeback win... Wow.http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2011/story/_/id/7082787/brewers-strike-fast-nlcs-game-1 #4 2011 NLDS Game 2.... Much like the previous game listed, the Brewers explode in one inning, the 6th.. Lucroy really got Miller Park rockin' with a safety squeeze that proved as good as a double when current Arizona close Ziegler threw the bunted ball away behind home.... A progression of hits (after a bizarre walk of the pinch hitter with only one out) by Hart, Morgan, and Braun put the game about out of reach. Another offensive storm.... wow... Brewers fans are on cloud nine, going up 2-0 in the series http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2011/story/_/id/7052891/brad-ziegler-gets-lit-key-spot My apologies if this was a topic somewhat recently... Overall, through this picking of games process, in a season of blaaaah, it was very good for a Brewer man's heart to take a walk down memory lane.
  3. Fun... Just fun! http://m.mlb.com/mil/video/v281132583/robin-yount-rollie-fingers-surprise-fans
  4. Favre should have just kept his mouth shut until each training camp and played out his deal until he didn't want to play anymore, or play until he was benched. Are you kidding me? All of his wish washy feely, not loving me, reading into things crap was terrible in that it threw the entire organization in an impossible position. They committed to Rodgers for months, and then he wanted back in (after 3 seasons of sitting on the same fence). He split our allegiances, a loyal to a fault organization, didn't apologize for it, even though his indecision caused it ALL, and then wormed his way AGAiN- fake retired and came back to beat his organization that made him into what he was........ And He did it all with the VIKINGS! Still troubling... Would you want to live in a word where the Favre-led Vikings were Super Bowl Champions? How bad would you hate that organization to this day???? Rephrase... How much more? You know that Favre would still be waiting for that Packer Hall of Fame call, right, if that all goes down.... and it all should have if Petersen doesn't fumble/Favre doesn't throw a pick. He burnt the bridge, pissed on it, and gave the whole organization the finger in the process, Nothing wrong with that??? "Crime" is not meant to be used in the literal sense here of being fined or jailed. Of course, Favre is 3rd on that list when taking "crime" literally because what he did was not criminal. Yet, when we are talking about morality, crime to sport, right and wrong in a sports sense, what he did to the home team and fans, the debate is a little more complicated. Why???? Some feel Braun did nothing wrong, even though what he did was punishable. Others, dozens or hundreds in the past perhaps, were doing it and did't get caught, didn't get punished. Why should he??? He never failed a test. Others weren't even tested. Braun said he did it for recovery purposes, which is fine and reasonable for some people. For Rose, most would like to see him reinstated and put in the Hall. Most view gambling as ok. Some believe since he bet on his own team to win, that he is whitewashed clean. These are popular, main-stream arguments for Braun and Rose, even though technically they were punished. Still, I put Favre 3rd. The other two were worse in my mind. Yet, I am for redemption for all. I'd like to see Rose back, in some sense, with MLB again.... I cheer Braun because he is a Brewer. He seems friendly and personable with fans, as well, which is admirable compared to how easily it would be to hate fans based on how he has been treated in other parks..... I would have tried to put emotions aside.... Would have stood and cheered Favre at the hula palooza on Saturday night. He provided so much fun for an organization for years, toughed out numerous games with injury, and played some elite ball. He accepted some responsibility in the breakup in interviews over the last year, and his graciousness with the fans gracious and thunderous applause was good for the soul. That being said, if he Won with the Vikings, Favre moves to 2nd. If he won it with the Bears, he moves to 1. Now That would have been criminal. How do you live with that???
  5. The common belief to many, especially the next generation of 20 something's and teens, is that any type of gambling is fine. Gambling is legalized with casinos and lotteries. Fantasy sports, with money on the line, is common. What they don't see or commonly hear is the terribly ugly and dangerous side to gambling that simply cannot be overstated..... Particularly, the danger it brings to big time sport with point shaving or tanking games, is off the chart bad for the health and longevity of any sport. Even more so, lives are on the line. Because of the naive nature of the next generation (when it comes to gambling) and the humongous amounts of money being involved at so many pro and college sports now, plan on more Black Sox like scandals....soon.
  6. Like the idea.... Yet, like said earlier, one team could have the most wins in the division/league/all of baseball for the entire 162 game season and NOT make the playoffs by finishing 2nd in the division each half. If this could be cleaned up a bit some how ( not sure if/how wild card teams would work), I could see it bringing excitement to many cities in Aug./Sept. Yet, the 2nd wildcard is doing that now, possibly even in Milwaukee yet this year. Stranger things have happened (see 2011 Cardinals or 2014 NFC championship game).
  7. What Favre did to a sports franchise, ultimately on his own doing... Completely...... Splitting it against itself...,, some siding with Favre to the point of cheering against the home team, is much more personal to some (not me) and is more "wrong", whether it being to Packer fans or any other fan base, than anything Rose or Braun did. Who in history has tried to do more to "get back" at his old organization than FaVre????? That being said, I am glad that some healing was done over the weekend, that he is in the Packers hall of fame, and that the wonderful fans welcomed him back with open arms in an ultimate show of Grace, harkening me to think tearily of the parable of the prodigal son.
  8. Sitting around... Watching Favre's speech with friends. A discussion and debate breaks out. Which player's crime to sport was the greatest? Favre split a franchise with his retirements and eventually got back at the organization by beating Packers twice with a division rival. Braun used PEDs and lied about it. Rose bet on baseball as a player and more importantly, as a manager. Three people debated and all had a different list from greatest crime to sport to least.... Very interesting to me... So I thought I'd post it here too. My list from greatest crime to least 1.Rose..... His gambling on baseball was and is the ultimate sport offense. The position of manager could definitely dictate losses and could set up wins more easily by resting players/bullpen to perform on betting days. Connections with other players/managers in the game to throw games to get a big payday or pay off a debt would be the logical next step, and a sport could commit suicide by letting that climate fester....... Black Sox scandal- worst blemish on any sport in history. He lied and continues to lie, based on recent articles, about his former gambling involvement, even as a player. 2.Braun- He used PEDs, he lied, he kinda got caught and then fessed up.... Remorseful, but not too apologetic. Getting over 100 mill based on inflated stats. On plus side, he seems fan friendly and charitable, but that is outside the debated question. 3. Favre - drama queen... Didn't know how to quit. Retired (finally) and ultimately changed his mind, unexpectedly finds that Packers have moved on.....he still wants to play and take down Ted's Packers (and does). He's ultimately splits a franchise's allegiances to player and organization (not team's fault, IMO). Drags out the ugly on TV and does not think of the organization, as a whole, in the slightest by going to a division rival. Overall, still lightest sports crime compared to other two. Many think of Favre as a hero tonight..... Funny thing, though, if Adrian Petersen doesn't fumble a couple of balls in the NFC champ. Game in 2009 or Favre doesn't throw lame pass in last minute of 4th quarter and Vikings go on to win game and then Super Bowl, Favre's night tonight with all the bell's and whistles does not happen. In fact, he would be booed to no end and he would be a Benedict Arnold character to most cheese heads to their death beds. Moreover, If he would have stayed retired in 2008, along with a night like this, there also would be a statue unveiled by now of him between Lambeau and Lombardi. Strange world of sports.....
  9. Get a MLB ready, young, hard throwing starter and another young Top 100 prospect hitter without giving up Lucroy (Gomez/Segura/Lind/Parra/Krod/Jeffress). Trade every player with less than a year on a contract (Ramirez, Cotts, Broxton, Lohse, Parra), whether in July or August, for high ceiling guys, even if at A ball. Eat the salary for the prospects. Play the young guys, especially Pederson, Sardinas, and Gennett, every day. Give Braun and Lucroy many days off. Give Peralta and Nelson September off. Keep Arcia in the minors until next May or June.
  10. Was that the right call on the ground rule double? Even if it HITS the player and then leaves the park? Common sense tells me that the runner from first should be able to score on that one. If it doesn't rebound back into the stands, the runner from 1B scores easily.
  11. From the off season after 2005 to this past winter, each and every year the Brewers fan base had legitimate hope that the beloved Brewers squad COULD make the playoffs. It wasn't a stretch to say it. Because of this HOPE, Brewers fans came out en masse to Miller Park, averaging roughly 2.7 million fans per year. From 1994 to 2004, there was zero hope in Wisconsin for Brewers baseball.... Attendance? Bottom five. Playoff hope? Laughable. Melvin's roster building of taking overlooked players from the trash heap along with mostly good trades, along with a bigger payroll from Attanasio/Miller Park and a string of good drafts in the early 2000's, changed the expectations. Although he only got us to two playoff series with one playoff win in 2011, other years we were extremely close to the playoffs in 2007, 2012, and 2014. This is dramatically better than many could have imagined considering where the Brewers were for many previous years. Do I believe it's time to go with a new GM? Yes. Considering Melvin's age and the way the last four years have gone (2012- complete bullpen collapse amid a stellar offense, 2013- terrible starting pitching, 2014- colossal offensive collapse, 2015- 2nd worse record in baseball), the time seems right. Yet, to minimize what he has done in his time in Milwaukee just to build your case to get rid of him, is not fair. 2008 and 2011.... Yep, those two playoff seasons were so much fun.... Braun and CC beating the Cubs on last day of season... Morgan hitting that game-winning run in Game 5..... Melvin helped build those rosters, build those teams that made or almost made the playoffs (if Yost didn't manage in 2007, if Axford or K-rod could close a game in 2012, or if Braun has a "regular" season in 2014, we are in the playoffs each year...... If Suppan doesn't start Game 4 in 2008 or Marcum starting Game 6 in 2011, we could be talking about a World Series appearance or Championship), and brought hope and pride back to this organization. Concluding, it might indeed be time for him to go, but his time here should be applauded, not mocked. Although I wouldn't give him an "A" grade for his time in Milwaukee, he gets a "B+" from me because of his good trading history, fairly solid major league teams overall- even when his draft people failed him with pitching, how he helped change expectations in Milwaukee, and for his successes, near misses, and overall competitiveness with a limited payroll in baseball's smallest market.
  12. Sutton had one of my favorite tv baseball calls that night. Not "prince now but will be a king" or something like that. Rather, it was after a double off the wall by somebody... The line ended with "Gets the job done!" I have the video on VHS... Gonna have to pull that one out. I miss the Buckethead Brigade, as well, some nights.
  13. Could we deal the rights of Middleton and our number 1 for something of value???? I'm just not comfortable giving Middleton big money with our top 3 getting less, locking up some maneuverability in 3 to 5 years when we'll need it. Plus, the Bucks lack that difference making big man whom we will be unable to get through the draft or free agency in the coming 5 years, being yearly playoff contenders.
  14. My apologies... I didn't realize using words like "liberal" or "political correctness" during a baseball debate was out of line in this forum. My stance has been, from the beginning, that the team and Gomez, in particular, have been so bad at the little things in baseball that win games and keep up morale that, at times, players should be benched, sent down, traded, or disciplined in some way. Even though it might cause waves short term, the team will be better off long term. Some, like RR and thread responders, acted like hands were tied, like Gomez should be playing every day NO MATTER WHAT Gomez chose to do. The good was better than the bad so be glad we have him. Having a manager change course, like Counsell has in running less, has been a nice change. Beating ourselves with mental mistakes was getting old. Although miscues still happen, they have been happening less, in my view, on the bases.
  15. See no evil.... Hear no evil..... Political correctness.... All is fine as long as you agree with me, right?
  16. Chisenhall... Very good candidate... Like it
  17. Also, a danger code could easily be added on each ticket, ala forest fire or allergy warnings Red...... danger of rocket hit foul balls/broken bats Orange.... moderate danger Yellow... some foul balls, rarely hard hit Green... not typical foul ball territory It is a little sad that it has to come to this.... people should know where the danger areas are in the ballpark. Yet, many are so new to baseball (schools don't teach it as much) and so oblivious to the dangers that this could be a helpful guide. Sometimes I see a mother with young children or a newborn sitting behind the dugout or by the on deck circle and cringe.... fairly irresponsible. I feel somewhat uncomfortable sitting there as an older athlete with a glove. My eyes are always on the field feeling that I cannot miss a swing because at any moment a screaming ball/bat could be headed our way.
  18. Nets should be extended to/thru the dugout tops..... too many hard fouls/ broken bats into the first row of stands with ZERO time to react. If fans were educated on the dangers of sitting of sitting close to the field, that would be one thing. They are not, however. A sign that says "Beware of flying balls and bats" means nothing to the uneducated baseball fan. I'd also like to see the nets raised a bit behind home plate. Why??? I took a tour of Miller Park and saw circular holes in the walls of the media room(including name of pitcher/hitter and date) behind the plate. Those balls coming straight back have hair on them too! Yet, I think we don't need them all the way down the line. People have a second or two more to react there, and like some said here already, the view is changed somewhat for the worse with a net to look through. This would give the fan an option too go down the line a bit to get the unobstructed view. So some change is needed, in my opinion.... In the overprotected world we live in with lawsuits and helicopter parents, it's really about time.
  19. Watching highlights and lowlights from Sat. Game vs. Twins...... Thoughts..... I have given to much credit to Gomez's baserunning capabilities. What is the opposite of "ignitor"? Gomez, even with his incomparable goofs, had a nice (not great) game. Shaking head... Cannot be
  20. Mr. T, I'll agree with you.... If we are strictly trying to trade him this year, I can see wisdom in NOT making this a bigger issue.... But it is an issue.
  21. Also, Mr. T, you are missing the point..... Is baserunning a problem here? Respectfully, we need to fix this, right?
  22. Disagree, Mr. T.... He could have grazed fingers on base instead of waiting to plop palms on base.... I dove head first into 2nd and 3rd many times.... You?
