  1. That's on the parents and coaches of the kids, not pro athletes. I have a kid and have coached Little League, never did i think it was that hard to get kids to follow rules placed for them. Set guidelines and the consequences if those demands aren't followed. Gotta stick to those guidelines and the consequences though because most kids will very quickly pick up on authority figures who set rules, but often fail to follow up on the consequences aspect. There are all kinds of things in life which adults are able to do, but kids aren't. It's up to parents and authority figures to set those guidelines, be it sports or a wide variety of other activities. Parents who can't control their kids and instead blame societal influences for why their kid or kids behave like brats are simply weak parents. Until maybe a child reaches his/her late teens, a parent/parents, they hold all of the power in the relationship. Simply use it and a kid will behave. Are you saying that pro athletes and youth athletes have separate codes of conduct? You are right in saying that there are several things adults can do, but kids can't. Yet, funny thing......those things are usually what get adults into trouble or somehow.
  2. That being said, definitely not on Goose's wing in all this.... I'll choose door number 3 (much like the presidential race).
  3. The line between celebration and flaunting/disrespect is thin. Bat flip.... well, ok. Bat flip and glare towards pitcher..... Not Yelling "Yeah" and fist pumping to no one in general ..... Again, alright. Yelling same toward guy just scored on..... Different. Being a 38 year old coach, parent, and teacher....... This used to be obvious to all. Now, disrespect in the name of FUN is fine in many households of brash and bratty kids (unless it happens to them, of course). Trash talk, bad language, huge egos aren't being disciplined/sat/talked to (just ignored....parents want to be friends with kids, coaches want to be "cool" and not be the heavy) at any where close to the rate of even 20 years ago.... Before you disagree, go to a youth tournament of any kind. Stay hour after hour. Watch.
  4. I agree 100% It's like some people are offended that he gets publicity. I'm not offended if Hank gets publicity......... the stand-in, however....
  5. It obviously deeply matters to the Brewers, even if it doesn't matter to the average fan. Two red flags in all this for me... Brewers took four days to give an official reply/ spin to all the rumors. The whole "Hank1" reply seemed odd, as well. Also, no refuting of possible stand ins was puzzling. They said there is only one Hank... which technically is true, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't stand ins named Hooch and Pooch to do his various public appearances. When I read the presser, politician speak, half truths, seemed to jump out to me. I think this was treated seriously by the Brewers because fraud or the perception of fraud, in one form or another, minor or major, taints and tarnishes like no other. Also, if they received any sort of $ for winning dog of the year last year (which is possible), I'm sure the issue would have been looked into (if not already). I surely hope that the Brewers aren't STILL covering this up. As we know, the cover up is often viewed more seriously than the offense itself. Personally, I'm like many here saying big deal. I was ready to dismiss this like many others..... and then the Brewers spoke. I'm writing because of the odd, possible misdirecting way the Brewers replied (dental records, vet letter), the timing of it all, and what they didn't say.
  6. How did the Brewers put to rest this contoversy, other than the dog not being dead? All the records and doctor confirmations don't answer the real questions here. Wouldn't it be reasonable to say that Hank has a double that does promotions, while the real Hank stays with his new family. How exactly was this possibility shot down?
  7. Peralta Nelson Garza Andersen Davies Peralta will pitch the opener...... No reason to burden Nelson with the Ace label yet. Peralta could use the encouragement and boost of confidence, as well. Garza pitches #3 because of his contract. Quite possibly, he might throw another hissy fit if he is slotted below #3. Andersen will get a shot because he was decent last season. I am not sold on Jungmann yet, and Davies might be the best polished pitcher in the whole system.
  8. Any news on this attraction? Is it back for 2016? Any changes? I think I went through/ saw it 3 times last season.... Enjoyable. Goosebumps, at times.
  9. The Lind trade and the Krod trade..... We basically got lottery tickets for them, right? All the other trades, Melvin or DS, didn't have that big of tank stink to them. Those two trades raised red flags for me. Something said to me that Stearns might have more on his agenda than just getting young talent in return..... I might be wrong in my line of thinking, I might. But how can you be sure that you are right? Check those ridiculous Astros yearly records out again from a few years ago. With all this parity in baseball, how could they be that bad yearly? How about that extra money that they had to play with during this past draft.... Didn't that help them sign another tough to sign pick? Not to mention the opportunity to get yor paws on the next Bryant or Harper- the types of players the Brewers can't trade for, sign in free agency, or buy in the international signing. Just truth be told, in the current system, being really, really bad benefits you more long term than just being bad. Stearns knows it. Say what you will, Stearns would take a top pick instead of being mediocre this season and probably next. He and the Astros wrote the book on the long term rebuild and we will see it again. It worked the first time for him. Why wouldn't he replicate the plan? Being really bad first seems to be part of the early plan. Again, I could be wrong, but how can you be so sure that you are right?
  10. Glad to hear that others are concerned about team management's aim at purposeful losing to gain an advantage. I'm all for rebuilding and getting a strong group of minor leaguers to come up together at the same time, and I guess I don't blame the Astros and Cubs (now Brewers, possibly) for the route they took to get back to glory. Yet, something is wrong with the system when teams (not players/managers, who are working their butts off to get paid, stay in the bigs) are positioning themselves to lose enough/more games to gain an advantage with high draft picks and a larger pool of money to sign picks. People, it's not about making a bad major league team to get higher draft picks. It's about using your resources to get lots of young, cheap, controllable talent. If Melvin and Stearns wouldn't have made the trades they've made, the major league team would still be mediocre and the minor league system would still be crap. Relying on the draft alone to build your team just doesn't work. I agree with you, but getting the high draft picks and larger allotted pool of $ is part of the strategy.
  11. Still do both deals today.... What I take from the Greinke deal is that it was designed for 2012 too. Our line-up was about all there (minus Prince, but Ramirez had a great season), and Axford AND K-Rod were back again to finish games. All five starting pitchers were back, as well. What's soooo sad is that we couldn't finish a game to save our life. We still almost backed our way in to the playoffs down the stretch after trading off Greinke, ridding ourselves of Marcum, and bringing up young starters. What were we, like 1.5 games out of the playoffs in September (wasn't BA going to shave his head if the Brewers closed the gap to 1 game?)? If Axford Or K-Rod OR anybody else could have consistently closed out games that year, we're easily in the playoffs again. If I remember right, our offense scored more runs that year than 2011. The Greinke deal was about two seasons, not just one.

  13. Isn't there something wrong when true fans hope their team loses?
  14. "Tanking"???? What is it exactly in MLB? I view it as upper MANAGEMENT purposefully taking resources away from your major league club and using them on your minor leagues in hopes of being better in the future AND BECOMING WORSE now for draft position/ slot pool benefits. The major league players and coaches want to win, of course. They are not throwing games. So, in many of your viewpoints, DS would take a 81-81 season this year instead of the first draft pick next June? Bull...No way he wants a mediocre team now.... Every move is about the future of this team in 5 years or so. Most fans would take the first pick too. How about the Bucks?? Hands down 90% of fans take the 1st pick of next draft instead of another mediocre season. I wouldn't blame them a bit based on the systems we have now where losing badly for long periods of time is considered wise and hip for not only building rosters around minor league talent ( which is fine by me) but for also getting better draft pick access to key talent ( not ok with it). You should always want the home team to win, whether rebuilding or not. With the drafting systems we have in the major sports, that isn't so with more and more fan bases increasingly. It is now better to be bad than average for long periods of time.
  15. Every year in football it is discussed come last week of season..... Commentators talking about how losing would benefit draft position.... Being able to pick a top QB In baseball, Brewerfan had a running thread of guys hoping the team loses more games to get a top pick. On sports talk radio many callers were hoping for the Brewers to play poorly during the summer to land a top pick or THEEEE #1 pick, AND now the Bucks to continue to play poorly or trade off Monroe to get a top pick. Why have this system that rewards losing to that great of an extent? Easily fixable....
  16. In short.... Have all non playoff teams' names put in the hat for a true lottery All playoff teams are then slotted after them, based on record The following year the same occurs; however, the teams that had a top 3 pick the previous year are taken out of the hat until the 4th pick and thereafter. First off, this fixes the end of season dilemmas bad teams have in all sports. Do Not try ( or more accurately don't play the good players) so that your spot in the draft gets better ( sometimes in football or baseball the no. 1 pick). I believe this would promote a healthier sports scene. What we have now at season's end for select bad teams is a debate against winning and losing.... A debate that should never be had for any team or fan base at end of season. 2. I also like the idea of young .500 teams (Bucks) getting a high pick to really help them improve. 3 The List of teams tanking in multiple year sets for better draft positioning would shrink, which is better for sport overall. Finally, and really not important to me, the lottery for all sports would be HUGE prime time tv...... one reason why money guy execs would want to get in on. Overall, I view a MLB worldwide draft and MLB Revenue sharing for all TV money as more important fixes to help small market teams..... Yet this drafting/tanking issue is by far the easiest to fix quickly.
  17. Within the year, Braun, Lucroy and Peralta are gone..... Stearns moves already have shown that.
  18. Seriously, why even try to "fill" the first base spot with anybody but our 1B of the future? We probably won't find him this offseason so just fill in anybody to play there, like our 4th OF or backup catcher. We seem to not be trying to compete for a playoff spot this year; otherwise there would be no reason to practically give away Krod and Lind for lottery tickets in 2020. Get our longterm guy or fill in with some cheap parts. Pedro Alvarez should not be an option. Otherwise, why get rid of Lind?
  19. 2.3 listed by the team (with the Bp freebies and no shows) 1.9 actually in attendance
  20. Have prospects ever been this overvalued? Maybe rightfully so considering the way salaries have increased. Yet, expected more for 2 guys that can help a contender, even if for just a year. Three teenagers??? Not hardly ranked in Mariners system?
  21. Was this a salary dump? Maybe, because this trade could be done mid season for spare parts and lottery tickets. Was it done to get a young or new first baseman some time in the majors? Probably, getting closer to the real reason. Was it done, along with the K-Rod trade, to make the team worse, giving us a higher draft pick?? Ding ding ding..... STEP 1, in Houston, was prolonged tanking, remember. Krod and Lind trades are very telling. For what we got back for K-Rod and Lind, I see little reason why Braun, Lucroy, Peralta, or half our bullpen will be Brewers a year from now...... Sterns is planning for 2020, not 2017. Dominos are just starting to fall.
  22. So............... lottery tickets for Lind???? Not even a somewhat proven piece we can put with the AA group? Not what I expected.
  23. Good point... I was in Maryvale at a morning practice BEFORE a road game later in the afternoon. I hope the atmosphere was more educational in Feb.
  24. Talked to Sedar in August..... A little discouraged with answers... Yet, Very nice guy to talk with... viewtopic.php?f=63&t=33233&p=957632#p957632
  25. In Spring Training, I went to two Brewers practices..... Not batting practice. There I saw the coaches doing very little. They weren't vocal. A few talked to players privately. I guess when I think of coaching, I think of my former coaches at all different levels. All were especially vocal during practice, if for nothing else than to keep up energy and enthusiasm. Now, I haven't been to other major league practices (perhaps some here have) but I came away very discouraged by the lack of hustle, talk, or meaningful drills. Here I gave a summary on the days.... viewtopic.php?f=63&t=32476&p=933667#p933823
