  1. Pratt's not going anywhere except to play shortstop at Am Fam field in 2027. He's Brice Turang Part 2. Speaking of which, Turang's a huge factor here. The Brewers have VERY little time to extend him. Don't tell me about him being under team control for 4 more years. We all know he's ascending quickly and if he's not extended before the 2026 season, he's most likely going to be too expensive for the budget-conscious Brewers. If Turang is gone, Pena at 2nd, Pratt at SS and Made, as has already been mentioned numerous times in reports, will be at3b. Meanwhile, Pena, though playing 25 games at High A Wisconsin, struggled a fair amount. Let's wait and see. The Pirates just picked up SS Marco Luciano after being released by the Giants. Luciano had been ranked #12 in the top 100 ML:B prospects a few years ago. Things can change for sure! If Turang is extended, then we'll see what happens but for now, let's wait and see. I know the author of the article is making a VERY good point in trading someone while their value is high or at least decent which I agree with completely. Just not Pratt, his skill set, consistency and intangibles jump off the page.
  2. The question asked, "Is Quero ready to assume the backup role in the big leagues?" Answer = Yes or easily. He probably would have been the backup in 2025 if he hadn't missed all of 2024. He's more than ready and after he does a very nice job in 2026, this column will be discussing what the Brewers can get for Contreras next year at this time since he becomes a free agent after the 2027 season.
  3. OMG, thank you! I thought I was one of the only Brewer fans that knew about Buxton's injury history but the 3 posts before mine all mention it. Yes, Buxton can play CF and is a very good power bat - when he plays! My God, look at how many games he's played in a season for the last 8 years and remember that it's a 162-game schedule. Take away 2020 of course, 60 games that year. This article is legit in that a fair amount of Brewer fans have been mentioning the same thing - trade for Buxton. From that standpoint, the article has merit in that people are curious. However, he also make $15.1 million each of the next 3 years! A good bat does very little for you if it's unavailable because of injury. Toss in the salary, a flashing "do not acquire" sign jumps out.
  4. Interesting article that has some merit. Specifically, the Brewers could use another veteran infielder. However, the suggested trade of Megill is WAY to high! As pointed out in the article, "McKinstry's career was unremarkable until last season." That's my problem, he's coming off a career year for himself. Prior to that, going backwards from 2024 to 2021, his batting average was: .215, .231, .199, ,215. I'll trade for him but only sending a prospect between #25-30. Otherwise, I'll pass and keep waiting for the market to materialize.
  5. Let's see ....hi Ketel Marte! Ok, yeah, now say goodbye to ANY chance of signing Miz long term. Geez, the Hot Stove is fun to play "armchair GM" but Marte, when we have the guys that we do in the minors? Seriously, no way in a million years! Make a trade to get a decent outfielder with some pop in his bat to play left. Maybe a veteran infielder for more depth and that's it. Of course, do NOT trade Peralta, seriously, again. Ok, a Godfather deal like when we got Contreras, Peguero and Yeager for Estury Ruiz but that's the ONLY way.
  6. My previous comment on Ortiz was a combination of my feeling that he will be better next year and the Brewers Brass clearly stating that Ortiz is a valuable commodity. Of course, the Brewers are not going to show their hand but this is consistent with the organization - whether fans like it or not, the Brewers have ALWAYS emphasized defense. After Turang's rookie season, people everywhere on the Brewer blogs were talking about how he's only a utility player and maybe better used at AAA and on the Brewers. Ortiz is of course a different player without Turang's ceiling but people here are acting like this is the only way to get better offensively and the team could very easily focus on an impact bat in the outfield to go along with Chourio and Frelick. In short, fans are NOT thinking the Brewer way.
  7. "we have to improve at the plate at that position by leaps and bounds and I do not think he is the answer short or long term." While I do not think Ortiz is the answer at SS long term because of Pratt, I couldn't DISAGREE with you more about needing to "improve at the plate by leaps and bounds." For one, it's just not the Brewer way if you've been watching the last 5-6 years, we're a run prevention team. Besides my opinion, Matt Arnold is ecstatic with Ortiz's defense. Thirdly, if the Brewers get an outfielder who can rake, the need for offense at the SS position goes down significantly. Ortiz might give up some playing time to a veteran this year, maybe starting 65% and the veteran 35% but no way is he NOT going to play a lot of SS this year.
