  1. Friday night's game between the Huntsville Stars and Chattanooga Lookouts has been suspended by rain. It will begin again Saturday at 5:15 and will be followed by a 7 inning game (regularly scheduled game).
  2. Final: Chattanooga 2 Huntsville 1 (13 innings) The Chattanooga Lookouts topped the Huntsville Stars 2-1 in 13 innings Thursday Night. Huntsville got a very strong pitching performance from Starter Drew Gagnon. Gagnon pitched 6 innings of shut out ball, allowing 1 questionably ruled hit, 2 walks and a hit batter while striking out 4. He posted a 6-5 GO/FO ratio while throwing 84 pitches, 50 for strikes. This was easily his best outing with the Stars. Unfortunately, the Stars bullpen couldn't hold the slimmest of leads. After Gagnon exited, Greg Holle worked the 7th. He didn't allow a hit or a run but did walk 2 and struck out 3. David Goforth then worked a scoreless, hitless 8th while striking out 1. Kevin Shackelford was brought in to close out the 9th. Unfortunately, a hit batter, a wild pitch, and a base hit tied the game up. For the night, Shackelford worked 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits, 1 walk, 1 hit batter, 1 wild pitch and struck out 1. Huntsville then got 2 scoreless innings out of Casey Medlen. Arcenio Leon (1-7, 6.49) was brought in to work the 13th. He retired the first batter he faced, but then gave up the game winning home run. Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense was only able to push 1 run across the plate tonight, despite out hitting the Lookouts 8-5. Stars second baseman Nick Shaw was on base 5 times. He went 2-3 with 3 walks drawn. Shaw has now drawn a team high 57 walks. Unfortunately, he didn't score. Brock Kjeldgaard also had 2 hits, going 2-5 tonight. He also reached on a hit by pitch.Jason Rogers reached base twice, a single and a walk, and scored the Stars only run. Anderson De La Rosa singled and drove in the Stars only run. Eric Patterson and Rene Tosoni also singled for the Stars. Shea Vucinich appeared as a pinch hitter and drew a walk. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars only run scored in the 6th Huntsville Top of the 6th Jason Rogers singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jeremy Moore. Brock Kjeldgaard hit by pitch. 3. Stars Snatch Series Opener From Lookouts By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars After a 52-minute rain delay, the Huntsville Stars began their five-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field with a 7-3 win on Wednesday night. With the Lookouts sporting a 10-game losing streak coming into the game, the Stars offense was able to capitalize on that lack of confidence early. After outfielder Chadwin Stang led off the game with a double and was advanced to third on a groundout, first basemen Jason Rogers lofted a sac fly deep to centerfield to put the Stars on the board. For Chattanooga, the closest they would get to the Stars was with a rally starting in the second inning when first basemen Angelo Songco hit a solo homer off Huntsville starting pitcher Mark Williams to tie the game up at one apiece. Two frames later, a bases-loaded, RBI single from shortstop Miguel Rojas off of Stars reliever Eric Marzec gave the Lookouts their only lead of the game. In his first Double-A start after being a reliever all season, Williams earned a no-decision after giving up two runs in 3.1 innings while striking out five and walking four batters. The Stars offense got Williams out of harms way in the top half of the fifth inning when they took control of the game. Highlighted by a two-run double by Marzec, a RBI triple from second basemen Nick Shaw and a wild pitch from Lookouts starting pitcher Garrett Gould (L, 2-3) that allowed a run to score, Huntsville took a lead by innings end that they would not relinquish. Huntsville got their two insurance runs in the seventh inning on a RBI double from outfielder Rene Tosoni and then in the eighth inning on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Rogers. On the pitching side, Marzec earned the win in relief to improve to 4-0 on the season. In his first outing on the mound with the Stars, two-way player Micah Owings pitched a scoreless frame while striking out the side in the sixth inning. Righty Frankie De La Cruz then came on and notched his first save of the year by sending down the Lookouts scoreless in the final three innings of the game. Offensively speaking, every spot in the Stars order accounted for at least one hit. Catcher Anderson de la Rosa led the way with a 3-for-4 night at the dish with two doubles. The contest lasted three hours and 48 minutes, the longest nine-inning contest on the season for Huntsville. Overall, the Stars are now own a 5-1 record at AT&T Field. For the Lookouts, the loss was their 11th in a row. On Thursday, the Stars will play game two of a five-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field. Huntsville will send RHP Drew Gagnon (4-6, 6.22 ERA) Chattanooga will counter with RHP Carlos Frias (0-1, 4.50 ERA). First pitch is 6:15 CT.
  4. Final: Huntsville 7 Chattanooga 3 The Huntsville Stars used 4 run 4th inning, keyed by a 2 run double by relief pitcher Eric Marzec, to defeat the Chattanooga Lookouts 7-4 Wednesday night. Righty Mark Williams made his first start of the season in a spot situation. He was able to give the Stars 3 1/3 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 being a solo home run. His biggest issue was control, he walked 4. Williams threw 66 pitches, 38 for strikes. After Williams, Eric Marzec (4-0, 2.22) took the hill. He worked 1 2/3 innings, allowing a run on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2, earning the win. Former big leaguer Micah Owings was next. He worked a scoreless 6th, striking out the side. Finally, Frankie De La Cruz had a bullpen saving performance. De La Cruz worked the final 3 innings, allowing no runs on 1 hit while striking out 3. In the process, he earned his first save of the season. Huntsville Box Score The Stars erupted for 12 hits, 5 doubles, and drew 7 walks in plating 7 in their win. Catcher Anderson De La Rosa had a big night. He was 3-4 with 2 doubles, drew a walk, and scored twice. Rene Tosoni was the only other Stars hitter to record more than 1 hit. He went 2-5 with a double and an RBI. First baseman Jason Rogers only had 1 hit, but drew 3 walks. He scored a run and added 2 RBI's to increase his league leading total to 76. Nick Shaw had and RBI triple and scored a run. He also added to his team leading total with his 54th walk. Chadwin Stang was 1-6 with a double. Shortstop Hector Gomez, who saw his hitting streak the previous game, started a new one, going 1-5 with a run scored. Mike Walker and Brock Kjeldgaard each added a single for the Stars. Shea Vucinich entered the game on a double switch and had 2 plate appearances, walking both times. Huntsville Play By Play Huntsville's big 4 run 4th. Huntsville Top of the 5th Miguel Rojas remains in the game as the shortstop. Anderson De La Rosa doubles (1) on a sharp fly ball to center fielder Joc Pederson. Hector Gomez reaches on a fielding error by shortstop Miguel Rojas. Anderson De La Rosa to 3rd. Eric Marzec doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Jeremy Moore. Anderson De La Rosa scores. Hector Gomez scores. With Chadwin Stang batting, wild pitch by Garrett Gould, Eric Marzec to 3rd. Chadwin Stang grounds out, shortstop Miguel Rojas to first baseman Angelo Songco. Nick Shaw triples (2) on a fly ball to center fielder Joc Pederson. Eric Marzec scores. Jason Rogers walks. Rene Tosoni strikes out swinging. With Brock Kjeldgaard batting, wild pitch by Garrett Gould, Nick Shaw scores. Jason Rogers to 2nd. Brock Kjeldgaard grounds out, third baseman Sean Burroughs to first baseman Angelo Songco. Micah Owings' impressive inning of relief Chattanooga Bottom of the 6th Pitching Change: Micah Owings replaces Eric Marzec, batting 9th, replacing Eric Patterson. Jan Vazquez strikes out on a foul tip. Pedro Baez strikes out on a foul tip. Rafael Ynoa singles on a ground ball to center fielder Chadwin Stang. Jon Garcia strikes out swinging. Huntsville (20-25 second half, 49-64 overall) and Chattanooga will go at it again Thursday night. Huntsville will send Drew Gagnon (4-6, 6.22) to the mound. Game time is set for 6:15 Central. Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen will kick things off starting at 6:00 with the pregame show.
  5. Final: Huntsville 2 Mississippi 1 It took waiting 2 hours through a rain delay, but the Stars were able to defeat the Braves 2-1 on Tuesday night at The Joe. The Stars got solid pitching and just enough hitting to win. Starter Brooks Hall was able to go 5 innings tonight in securing his first AA win. Hall (1-4, 5.31) allowed no runs on 6 hits and no walks while striking out 1 in his 5 innings of work. Hall was able to go 5 despite being on a pitch count. He threw 56 pitches, 35 for strikes and posted a 6-4 GO/FO ratio. After Hall, Greg Holle came on to pitch. He worked 2 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit and no walks while striking out 1. Hard throwing right hander Kevin Shackelford pitched the 9th. He allowed an unearned run on 3 hits while striking out 2. So as a team, the Stars did not allow a walk. I wonder how much that was the strike zone being expanded by the umpires and Braves hitters, trying to get through the game as quickly (2:40) as possible after sitting around in a rain delay (2:02)... Huntsville Box Score Huntsville was limited to 3 singles and 4 walks, but were able to push 2 runs across the plate in their win. Chadwin Stang scored both Huntsville runs. He reached base twice, one hit, one walk, in going 1-3. Catcher Anderson De La Rosa, in his first game with the Stars this year, went 1-3 with an RBI. Second baseman Nick Shaw had the Stars other hit. Brock Kjeldgaard didn't have a hit, but walked twice. Shea Vucinich walked and stole a base for the Stars. Jason Rogers had a sacrifice fly to drive in his league leading 74th RBI tonight. Huntsville Play By Play Huntsville's first run tonight Huntsville Bottom of the 4th Chadwin Stang walks. Nick Shaw flies out to center fielder Mycal Jones. Jason Rogers lines out to shortstop Omar Luna. Brock Kjeldgaard walks. Chadwin Stang to 2nd. Anderson De La Rosa singles on a fly ball to center fielder Mycal Jones. Chadwin Stang scores. Brock Kjeldgaard to 3rd. Rene Tosoni grounds out, third baseman Edward Salcedo to first baseman Barrett Kleinknecht. And their 2nd run Huntsville Bottom of the 6th Chadwin Stang singles on a line drive to center fielder Mycal Jones. Nick Shaw singles on a ground ball to center fielder Mycal Jones. Chadwin Stang to 3rd. Jason Rogers out on a sacrifice fly to left fielder Dan Brewer. Chadwin Stang scores. Brock Kjeldgaard walks. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Pitching Change: Juan Jaime replaces Ian Thomas, batting 9th. Anderson De La Rosa grounds into a force out, second baseman Tommy La Stella to shortstop Omar Luna. Nick Shaw to 3rd. Brock Kjeldgaard out at 2nd. Anderson De La Rosa to 1st. Rene Tosoni pops out to third baseman Edward Salcedo in foul territory. The Huntsville Stars (19-25 second half, 48-64) head out on the road for a 5 game series with the Chattanooga Lookouts starting Wednesday. Right hander Drew Gagnon (4-6, 6.22) is scheduled to start for the Stars. Game time is set for 6:15 Central. Don't forget to join Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen starting at 6:00 for the pregame show.
  6. Final: Mississippi 7 Huntsville 4 Ariel Pena's woes continued Monday night as the Mississippi Braves tagged him with 5 runs in 3 1/3 innings en route to a 7-4 win at The Joe. Pena (5-8, 4.33) started July with an ERA of 3.14 saw it rise to 4.33 after tonight's game. His line was 3 1/3 innings, 5 runs, 4 earned, on 4 hits, 1 home run, and 3 walks while striking out 5. He also hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. It took Pena 94 pitches, 56 for strikes, to cover 3 1/3 innings. Pena's GO/FO ratio was 4-4. So with another short start, the Stars bullpen was called on to cover 5 2/3 innings tonight. Stars manager Darnell Coles used 4 pitchers to do that. Starting with Mark Williams. Williams relieved Pena in the 4th and worked 1 2/3 innings, allowing just 1 hit. Unfortunately, that one hit was a solo home run. He also struck out 3. Arcenio Leon covered the 6th, allowing no runs on 1 hit and 1 walk. Casey Medlen was next out of the pen. He worked 2 innings tonight, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. One of the hits was a solo home run. David Goforth pitched a scoreless 9th, allowing a hit and striking out 1. Huntsville Box Score For the 6th time this season, the Stars got a 4 hit night from one of their players. Tonight, it was left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Kjeldgaard went 4-4, homered, drove in 1 and scored twice. The home run is his 19th on the season, tying him with teammate Jason Rogers for the Southern League lead. With the 4 hits, he raised his average 9 points. No other Stars hitter had more than 1 hit. Both Nick Shaw and Rene Tosoni each reached base twice, each singling and drawing a walk. For Shaw, he leads the team with 53 walks drawn. Third baseman Mike Walker hit a 2 out, 2 run home run in the first and shortstop Hector Gomez had an RBI double in the 4th. Joey Paciorek and Eric Patterson each singled for Huntsville. Unfortunately, Jason Rogers did not get a hit, snapping his hitting streak at 17 games. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars held the lead after the 1st. Huntsville Bottom of the 1st Nick Shaw grounds out, second baseman Tommy La Stella to first baseman Christian Marrero. Rene Tosoni walks. Jason Rogers flies out to left fielder Robby Hefflinger. Mike Walker homers (11) on a fly ball to left center field. Rene Tosoni scores. Brock Kjeldgaard singles on a line drive to right fielder Jose Martinez. Eric Patterson flies out to center fielder Dan Brewer. Huntsville (18-25 second half, 47-64 overall) and Mississippi will play the 5th and final game of this series tomorrow night. Brooks Hall is scheduled to start for the Stars. Hall has been limited recently due to pitch counts, so it could be another game where the bullpen sees a lot of work. Game time is set for 6:43 Central with Alex Cohen and the pregame show starting at 6:30.
  7. Final: Huntsville 3 Mississippi 2 (Walk Off Walk!) The Huntsville Stars snapped their losing streak in walk off fashion Sunday afternoon at The Joe. Pinch hitter Joey Paciorek drew a bases loaded walk to force in the winning run. The Stars needed, and got, a strong start from Taylor Jungmann. Jungmann worked 6 strong innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, one home run, and no walks while striking out 4. Jungmann didn't figure into the decision today, a rarity this season for him. Over his 6 innings of work, Jungmann threw 103 pitches, 64 for strikes. His GO/FO ratio was 7-4. After Jungmann left, the Stars needed some help from their bullpen. They got 3 scoreless innings, allowing the Stars to comeback and win it in the 9th. Frankie De La Cruz provided 2 scoreless innings. They were a challenge though as he allowed 3 walks and 1 hit, but no runs. Eric Marzec (3-0, 2.09) worked a scoreless 9th, allowing a hit, and keeping the game tied to allow for the winning rally in the bottom. Huntsville Box Score The Huntsville Stars got a group effort as their offense knocked out 12 hits and drew 9 walks, scoring only 3. In the process, they stranded 18, a season high. Shortstop Hector Gomez led the attack today for the Stars. He went 3-4 with a double, RBI, and drew a walk. Gomez now has hit safely in 5 straight games, going 8-17 (.471). Second baseman Nick Shaw also wrapped out 3 hits today. Left fielder Eric Patterson reached base 4 times, scoring twice. Eric drew 3 walks and singled once. Jason Rogers extended his hitting streak to 17 with a single in the 5th. Rogers also drew a walk. Mike Walker singled and drew a bases loaded walk to drive in a run. Chadwin Stang was on base twice, once with a single, once with a walk. Adam Weisenburger singled for the Stars other hit. The news wasn't all good today. Catcher Shawn Zarraga was forced to leave the game with an injury after he was hit in the back of the head by the backswing of Mississippi Braves second baseman Tommy La Stella. No injury update was available through the end of the game. We'll keep an eye and ear out for an update. Huntsville Play By Play The Huntsville game winning rally came against old friend Thomas Keeling (Juan Francisco trade) Huntsville Bottom of the 9th Eric Patterson walks. Adam Weisenburger singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Thomas Keeling. Eric Patterson to 2nd. Hector Gomez singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Thomas Keeling. Eric Patterson to 3rd. Adam Weisenburger to 2nd. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Joey Paciorek replaces Eric Marzec. Joey Paciorek walks. Eric Patterson scores. Adam Weisenburger to 3rd. Hector Gomez to 2nd. Huntsville (18-24 second half, 47-63 overall) and Mississippi will play game 4 tomorrow night at The Joe. Right hander Ariel Pena (5-7, 4.14) will look to break a streak of rough outings as he takes the mound for the Stars. Game time is set for 6:43 Central with Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen starting things at 6:28 with the pregame show.
  8. Final: Mississippi 6 Huntsville 5 The Huntsville Stars carried a 4-2 lead into the 9th and watched as the Mississippi Braves scored 4 runs and held on to win 6-5 Saturday night at The Joe. The loss extended the Stars losing streak to 5. Stars starter Andy Moye pitched well enough to win. Moye worked 5 innings, allowing 2 runs, both earned, on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Moye allowed a home run, his Southern League leading 16th. Moye posted a very good 9-1 GO/FO ratio and threw 64 pitches, 37 for strikes. Stars reliever David Goforth relieved Moye in the 6th and put together a real bounce back performance. Goforth, who struggled last time out, worked a perfect 6th inning, striking out 2. Kevin Shackelford worked 2 scoreless innings, but was in and out of trouble all night. He allowed 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1. It was a key pick off at 2nd base that preceded a base hit that kept his line scoreless. So, with the Stars up 4-2, Greg Holle was called on to close it out. Unfortunately, Holle was unable to. The Braves touched him up for 4 runs to take a 6-4 lead. Holle's (3-3, 4.26) line was 1 inning 4 runs on 5 hits with 1 strike out. This was the 4th blown save on the season for Greg. Huntsville Box Score The Huntsville Stars got a huge game from left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard tonight. Kjeldgaard was 2-4, both hits were home runs, and 4 RBI's. The 2 home runs give Brock 18 on the season, one behind teammate Jason Rogers for the league lead. Second baseman Nick Shaw also collected 2 hits and drove in a run in the 9th for the Stars. Shaw also drew a walk, his team leading 52nd. Jason Rogers singled to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, a season high for the Stars. Rogers drew a walk as well. Shawn Zarraga had a pinch hit single tonight. That is his team best 6th pinch hit on the season. The Stars also got singles from Chadwin Stang, Adam Weisenburger, Hector Gomez, and Shea Vucinich. Weisenburger and Rene Tosoni also drew walks. Huntsville Play By Play Brock had a big night. Huntsville Bottom of the 2nd Jason Rogers flies out to left fielder Robby Hefflinger. Mike Walker grounds out, first baseman Christian Marrero to pitcher Gus Schlosser. Brock Kjeldgaard homers (17) on a line drive to left field. Adam Weisenburger walks. Hector Gomez strikes out swinging Huntsville Bottom of the 6th Pitching Change: Gary Moran replaces Gus Schlosser, batting 4th, replacing left fielder Robby Hefflinger. Defensive Substitution: Dan Brewer replaces pitcher Gus Schlosser, batting 9th, playing left field. Nick Shaw singles on a ground ball to center fielder Mycal Jones. Rene Tosoni flies out to center fielder Mycal Jones. Jason Rogers singles on a line drive to center fielder Mycal Jones. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Mike Walker lines out to center fielder Mycal Jones. Brock Kjeldgaard homers (18) on a fly ball to left center field. Nick Shaw scores. Jason Rogers scores. Adam Weisenburger flies out to right fielder Jose Martinez. Huntsville (17-24 second half, 46-63 overall) will look to snap their 5 game skid when they take on the Braves tomorrow afternoon. Taylor Jungmann (9-7, 3.76) will look to play the role of stopper for the Stars. Game time is set for 4:03 Central with Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen kicking things off at 3:50 with the pregame show.
  9. Final: Mississippi 13 Huntsville 2 Mississippi jumped on the Huntsville Stars early and often in their 13-2 drubbing of them Friday night. Righty Drew Gagnon started for the Stars and didn't make it past the 3rd inning. Gagnon (4-6, 6.22) worked 3 innings allowing 8 runs, 7 earned on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. He also allowed 2 home runs. It took Gagnon 82 pitches, 46 strikes, to work through those 3 innings. His GO/FO ratio was 1-4. Not a start to remember for Drew. With another short start from a Stars starter, the bullpen was again asked to soak up innings. Tonight, Mark Williams was first up. He did well, going 3 innings. He did allow 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. Williams threw 54 pitches, 36 strikes, in covering his 3 innings. Casey Medlen was next for Huntsville. He worked 2 innings, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. So Williams and Medlen were effective enough to eat up some innings, but weren't able to keep the Braves off the scoreboard. Greg Holle worked a pressure-less 9th inning. He didn't allow a hit or a run and struck out 1. Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense was held to 8 hits and 2 runs tonight. Right fielder Rene Tosoni had nearly half the Stars hits. Tosoni went 3-4 with an RBI for the Stars. Chadwin Stang had another multi-hit game, going 2-5 with a run scored. First baseman Jason Rogers added to his league leading totals with his 19th home run and 73rd RBI. Shortstop Nick Shaw reached base twice, on a single and a walk. Second baseman Eric Patterson had the Stars other hit tonight. Adam Weisenburger and Shea Vucinich each drew a walk for Huntsville. Huntsville Play By Play Pretty ugly read here tonight. The one highlight I could find. Huntsville Bottom of the 6th Defensive Substitution: Omar Luna replaces third baseman Edward Salcedo, batting 5th, playing third base. Pitching Change: Thomas Keeling replaces Aaron Northcraft, batting 9th. Nick Shaw strikes out swinging. Rene Tosoni flies out to center fielder Mycal Jones. Jason Rogers homers (19) on a fly ball to left field. Eric Patterson pops out to third baseman Omar Luna. Huntsville (17-23 second half, 46-62 overall) and Mississippi will play game 2 of this series Saturday night. Righty Andy Moye (5-11, 4.25) will be on the mound for the Stars. Game time is set for 6:43 Central with Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen starting things at 6:28 with the pregame show.
  10. Final: Jackson 5 Huntsville 2 The Jackson Generals overcame a 2 run deficit in the first inning to come back and defeat the Huntsville Stars 5-2 Thursday evening. The Stars sent Brooks Hall out to start tonight. Hall worked 2 innings as the Brewers are working to limit his innings. In those 2 innings, Hall allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Brooks threw 42 pitches, 27 for strikes. He also posted a 2-2 GO/FO ratio. After pitching 68 2/3 innings last season, Hall is already up to 94 this season. In 2011, Hall worked just over 100 innings. With Hall out, the Stars needed 6 innings from their bullpen. They went to Frankie De La Cruz first. De La Cruz (1-3, 5.48) struggled, taking the loss tonight. Working 1 inning, De La Cruz allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk. One hit was a 2 out, 2 run home run. Righty Eric Marzec was next. He worked 2 scoreless innings tonight. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. Arcenio Leon finished the game up for the Stars. He worked the final 3 innings, allowing no runs on no hits but did walk 4 and also struck out 4. Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense was again led by Jason Rogers. Rogers went 3-4 with a run scored. He hit his 18th home run on the season in the first, accounting for all the Stars offense tonight. He added a single and double later in the game. Rogers 18 home runs and 72 RBI's both lead the Southern League. As far as any triple crown talk, Jason's batting average currently sits at .257 with Justin Greene of Mobile currently leading at .320. Catcher Shawn Zarraga had another multi-hit game. He went 2-4 and now has a batting average of .325. He's started 4 games since July 5th and in those games is a combined 11-16 (.688). Shortstop Hector Gomez reached base twice. He singled and drew a walk. Center fielder Chadwin Stang and second baseman Nick Shaw recorded the Stars other 2 hits. Right fielder Rene Tosoni and left fielder Eric Patterson each drew a walk tonight. Huntsville Play By Play Jason Rogers got the Stars off to a fast start. Huntsville Top of the 1st Chadwin Stang singles on a line drive to right fielder James Jones. Chadwin Stang out at 2nd, right fielder James Jones to shortstop Gabriel Noriega. Nick Shaw singles on a line drive to right fielder James Jones. Rene Tosoni strikes out swinging. Jason Rogers homers (18) on a fly ball to left field. Nick Shaw scores. Eric Patterson lines out to center fielder Leon Landry. Huntsville (17-22 second half, 46-61 overall) heads back to the friendly confines of The Joe to start a 5 game series with the Mississippi Braves starting tomorrow night. Right hander Drew Gagnon (4-5, 5.37) will start for the Stars. Game time is set for 6:43 Central. Make sure to tune in starting at 6:28 to catch Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen and the pregame show.
  11. Final: Jackson 7 Huntsville 3 The Huntsville Stars built a 3-0 lead after 2 innings, then watched as Jackson rattled off 7 unanswered runs to win 7-3 Wednesday night. Ariel Pena started and struggled again. It very similar to his struggles early in the season. He wasn't able to get through 5 innings tonight. His line is 4 2/3 innings, 3 runs, all earned, on 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 2. For the year, Pena has now walked 64, to lead the Southern League. On the positive side, Pena has recorded 99 strike outs, good for 6th in the league. Tonight, he needed 92 pitches to cover 4 2/3 innings, 57 were strikes. He did have a sparkling 8-1 GO/FO ratio. With Pena's short outing, the bullpen needed to cover 3 1/3 innings. Mark Williams came on and got the Stars out of the 5th. David Goforth was called on to work the 6th & 7th innings. David struggled with control tonight. Listening to the broadcast, he was missing inside when he missed. His control issues cost him as he was forced to throw strikes as the bases were loaded, and Ji-Man Choi made him pay, hitting a grand slam. Those 4 runs were the winning margin tonight. Goforth (4-2, 4.26) went 2 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. Goforth threw 46 pitches over those 2 innings, 25 for strikes. He posted a 3-0 GO/FO ratio. His fastball was in the low to mid 90's. Casey Medlen worked a scoreless 8th, allowing 2 hits. Huntsville Box Score The Stars had 9 hits and 3 walks, but none after the 5th, and really didn't threaten to score after the 2nd. Adam Weisenburger led the Stars tonight, reaching base 3 times, 2 singles and a hit by pitch. Adam also scored a run for the Stars. Center fielder Chadwin Stang was the other Stars hitter to record more than 1 hit, going 2-5 tonight with an RBI. Jason Rogers and Mike Walker each reached base twice, once on a single and once via base on balls. Walker also stole his 2nd base of the season. Brock Kjeldgaard singled and drove in a run, his 51st RBI on the season. Joey Paciorek and Hector Gomez each had a hit for the Stars. Rene Tosoni drove in a run with a ground out. Left fielder Shea Vucinich walked and scored a run for Huntsville. Huntsville Play By Play The first couple innings were good. Huntsville Top of the 1st Chadwin Stang grounds out, shortstop Chris Taylor to first baseman Daniel Paolini. Shea Vucinich walks. Rene Tosoni flies out to left fielder Leon Landry. Jason Rogers singles on a sharp ground ball to left fielder Leon Landry. Shea Vucinich to 2nd. Brock Kjeldgaard singles on a ground ball to left fielder Leon Landry. Shea Vucinich scores. 12. Final: Jackson 5 Huntsville 1 (As I write this, the box score is stuck in the 7th inning. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly.) The Generals jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first and Jackson's pitching made is hold up as the Generals defeated the Stars 5-1 Tuesday evening. Stars starter Taylor Jungmann pitched a real strong game as well. He struggled in the first and 8th innings, but otherwise was dominant. His line ended at 7 1/3 innings, 5 runs, only 3 earned, on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 7. It was unfortunate Taylor had problems in the 8th as Huntsville had made it a 2-1 game scoring a run in the top of the 8th. Right hander Eric Marzec relieved Jungmann in the 8th. He allowed 1 hit, which drove in an inherited runner, and struck out 1 in 2/3 innings of relief. Huntsville Box Score The Stars were only able to knock out 6 hits and draw 2 walks in their 5-1 loss. Shortstop Hector Gomez led the Stars hitters Tuesday night. Gomez went 2-3 and drove in the only run for Huntsville. Right fielder Rene Tosoni also had 2 hits for the Stars, also going 2-3. Jason Rogers pushed his hitting streak to 11 with a double tonight. He also drew a walk. Second baseman Eric Patterson had the other hit tonight for Huntsville, a first inning double. Mike Walker was the only other Stars hitter to reach base, drawing a walk in the 8th. Huntsville Play By Play. Huntsville's only real rally took place in the 8th. Huntsville Top of the 8th Rene Tosoni singles on a ground ball to right fielder Daniel Paolini. Joey Paciorek flies out to right fielder Daniel Paolini. Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen will start things at 6:50 with the pregame show. This game will be available on MiLB TV for those with a subscription. 13. Final: Huntsville 5 Jackson 3 Huntsville was the beneficiary of a couple Jackson Generals errors that helped the Stars win in come-from-behind fashion Monday evening. The Stars were down 3-2 when the Generals kicked a couple around in the 6th, leading to 3 unearned runs, providing the Stars the winning margin. Stars starter Andy Moye (5-11, 4.25) earned the win tonight. He went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs, none were earned, on 3 hits, 1 walk and 1 hit batter while striking out 4. Moye needed 76 pitches, 55 strikes, to cover those 5 innings. He also posted a 5-3 GO/FO ratio. On the radar gun, Moye hit 93 tonight. With Moye going the minimum 5, the Stars needed 4 innings out of their bullpen tonight. Casey Medlen was first up. He lasted just 2 batters, walking both, before being lifted. Greg Holle then came on. He allowed a single to the first batter he faced to load the bases. Holle was then able to Houdini out of it. He got a pop out to short and a double play to end the inning. He then worked a perfect 7th. The Stars then brought on Kevin Shackelford to work the final 2 innings. Shackelford was able to keep the Generals off the scoreboard and record his 3rd save in the process. Kevin allowed a hit and a walk while striking out 2. Huntsville Box Score For the Stars offense, first baseman Jason Rogers picked up where he left off yesterday. Bones Rogers hit another 2 run home run in the first inning to give the Stars an early lead. Rogers also walked and scored twice. Jason now has a 10 game hitting streak. The home run was his 17th on the season, putting him in a tie for the league lead. The 2 RBI's gave him 70 on the season and increased his league leading total. Newly acquired Eric Patterson had a huge hit tonight for the Stars. His pinch hit, 2 out, 2 run single in the 6th put the Stars ahead for good. Patterson stayed in the game and finished the night 1-2 with those 2 RBI's. Right fielder Rene Tosoni was the only Stars hitter tonight with more than 1 hit, going 2-5 with a run scored. Brock Kjeldgaard reached base 3 times, one single and 2 walks. Catcher Adam Weisenburger recorded the Stars only other hit. He also drew a walk and scored a run. Center fielder Chadwin Stang reached base twice without recording a hit. He drew a walk and was hit by a pitch. Third baseman Joey Paciorek drew a walk to be the Stars only other baserunner tonight. Huntsville Play By Play See-You-Later Jason Rogers Huntsville Top of the 1st Chadwin Stang hit by pitch. Nick Shaw grounds into a force out, pitcher Roenis Elias to shortstop Chris Taylor. 14. Final: Huntsville 7 Jackson 2 Huntsville scored early and often against the Jackson Generals on Sunday evening, cruising to a 7-2 win. Stars starter Drew Gagnon recorded his 3rd straight win with a good pitching performance. Gagnon (4-5, 5.37) struggled a bit in the first, allowing the only Generals runs. Gagnon worked 6 innings, allowing 2 runs, both earned, on 6 hits and 5 walks while striking out 4. Gagnon topped out at 92 on the in stadium radar gun, which is a MPH or 2 slow according to Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen. Gagnon needed 104 pitches, 62 strikes to get through those 6 innings. He also posted a 2-7 GO/FO ratio. Working behind Gagnon tonight were David Goforth and Frankie De La Cruz. Combined, the two of them threw 3 perfect innings. Goforth worked the 7th and 8th innings, recording 1 strike out and hitting 97 per the Stars Videographer. De La Cruz cruised through the 9th, striking out 2. Huntsville Box Score A little over a week after he went 4-5 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI's, Jason "Bones" Rogers was again the big story offensively. Rogers, fresh off his Southern League Player Of The Week honors, started his campaign for this week's honor. Jason went 2-4 with 2 home runs (16), a sacrifice fly, and 5 RBI's (68). The 16 home runs ties him with Brock Kjeldgaard for the team lead and for 2nd in the Southern League. The 68 RBI's leads the league. As a team, the Stars were limited to only 6 hits but drew 8 walks. Nick Shaw was the only other Stars hitter with more than 1 hit tonight. Shaw finished the game 2-4 with 2 runs scored and stole his 7th base on the season. Third baseman Joey Paciorek had the only other extra base hit when he hit his 2nd home run of the season in the 3rd. All-Star catcher Adam Weisenburger had the Stars other hit and RBI. Adam drew a bases loaded walk in the 1st to drive in a run. Chadwin Stang didn't record a hit, but drew 2 walks and scored twice. He now has a .349 OBP and has scored 17 runs in 24 games with the Stars. Brock Kjeldgaard also drew 2 walks and scored a run. Rene Tosoni and Joey Paciorek also walked for Huntsville. Huntsville Play By Play Rogers had a night! Huntsville Top of the 1st Chadwin Stang strikes out swinging. Nick Shaw singles on a line drive to right fielder James Jones. 15. Not a good start in Arizona for the Micro Brewers AZL Reds Top of the 1st Kevin Garcia singles on a fly ball to center fielder Edgardo Rivera. Aristides Aquino homers (2) on a fly ball to left field. Kevin Garcia scores. Defensive Substitution: Brandon Diaz replaces left fielder Elvis Rubio, batting 6th, playing left field. AZL Brewers right fielder Elvis Rubio left the game due to an injured shoulder. Cory Thompson grounds out, shortstop Steven Halcomb to first baseman David Denson. Kevin Franklin pops out to second baseman Francisco Castillo. Jose Duarte grounds out, second baseman Francisco Castillo to first baseman David Denson. Have to guess with the home run going out to left, possibly a collision with the fence? Hopefully nothing too serious for Elvis.
  16. Final: Tennessee 6 Huntsville 3 The Tennessee Smokies continued their power surge, smacking 4 home runs in defeating the Huntsville Stars 6-3 Saturday night at The Joe. Over the just completed 5 game series, the Smokies hit a total of 16 home runs. Unbelievable. Tonight's starter, Brooks Hall, lasted only 4 innings. Hall (0-4, 5.88) allowed 3 runs, all earned, on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Hall allowed 2 of the 4 Smokies home runs. Hall threw 61 pitches over the 4 innings, 37 for strikes and had a 2-3 GO/FO ratio. Brooks is on a pitch/innings limit like most of the pitchers, so the short outings or occasional skipped start, are not always due to ineffectiveness. With Hall going 4 innings, the bullpen needed to pick up the other 5. Recently recalled righty Mark Williams was first out of the pen tonight. Williams worked 2 very good innings. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 5. The one run scored on a solo home run. Next was Eric Marzec. Marzec also worked 2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. He also allowed a solo home run. Finally, Arcenio Leon came on and worked a perfect 9th inning. Altogether, the Stars pitchers recorded 13 strike outs. Huntsville Box Score Unlike previous games, the Stars offense did not jump on the Smokies pitching early. They were limited to 8 hits and 3 walks tonight. Rene Tosoni was the only Stars hitter with more than 1 hit. He went 2-4 with a double. Tosoni now has hits in 7 of his last 8 games. Jason Rogers was the only other Stars hitter to reach base more than once. Rogers singled and walked tonight. Rogers now has an 8 game hitting streak. Shortstop Nick Shaw went 1-5 with an RBI. Third baseman Mike Walker had the Stars only other extra base hit, a double in the 2nd. The other Stars hits came from second baseman Eric Patterson, Joey Paciorek as a pinch hitter, and Mark Williams became only the 3rd Stars pitcher to record a hit this season when he singled and scored in the 5th. Left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard drew a walk and scored a run and Shea Vucinich also drew a walk tonight. 17. Final: Huntsville 9 Tennessee 8 In a back and forth game that saw the Stars take another 4-0 lead only to have Tennessee eventually come back and tie the game, Huntsville was able to find that last needed clutch hit to secure a 9-8 victory Friday night at The Joe. Starter Ariel Pena struggled most of the night. Pena, (5-7, 4.06) who was so dominant back in May, has really struggled in his last couple outings. His ERA on July 5th was 3.20. After tonight's outing, it's up to 4.06. Tonight, Pena worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing 8 runs, all earned, on 8 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3. He also allowed 3 home runs, giving him 15 for the season, which ties teammate Andy Moye for the league lead. As you might have guessed, the Stars staff has allowed the most home runs in the Southern League. Pena threw 100 pitches with only 58 being strikes. He did post a nice 8-3 GO/FO ratio. The 8 runs allowed is a little misleading as 2 of the runs scored after he left the game. None the less, he put them on base and they did score. Hard throwing right hander Kevin Shackelford was tasked with trying to get Pena out of the jam in the 6th. Shackelford (1-0, 1.80) came into the game having allowed only 3 hits over the 8 1/3 innings he had worked this season for Huntsville. Tonight he allowed 4 hits including a single and double to the first 2 batters he faced in the 6th, which drove in the final runs for Tennessee in the game and tied the game at that time 8-8. Shackelford's line was 1 2/3 innings, 4 hits, no runs, no walks, and 2 strike outs. He did earn both a blown save and the win. Greg Holle worked 2 perfect innings, striking out 1 to pick up his 10th save on the season. Huntsville Box Score Huntsville recorded 11 hits and 10 walks tonight in their win. Shawn Zarraga got the start tonight behind the plate and made the most of it. He finished the night going 4-4 with a walk. He hit his 7th double on the season and drove in 3. The 4 hits raised his batting average to .319. Zarraga has started 3 times since July 5th. He is a combined 9-12 with a double, a home run, and 5 RBI's. He also was the 4th Stars hitter to record 4 hits in a game this season, joining Tosoni, Rogers, Davis, and Stang. It was Zarraga's single in the 7th that fittingly drove in the game winning run. While Zarraga had a huge night, he was not the only Stars hitter doing damage. Big Brock Kjeldgaard launched his 16th home run on the season and finished with 3 RBI's. He's 2nd in the league with 16 home runs. Kjeldgaard also drew 2 walks and scored twice. First baseman Jason Rogers went 2-4 with a walk and drove in his league leading 63rd run. Third baseman Mike Walker went 2-4 with a walk and scored 3 times. Second baseman Eric Patterson went 1-3, drove in 2 and scored once. Right fielder Rene Tosoni recorded the Stars other hit. He also scored a run. Center fielder Chadwin Stang saw his hitting streak end at 9 games, but he did reach base twice including one time on catchers interference. Nick Shaw didn't record a hit, but did draw 2 walks and Shea Vucinich drew a walk in a pinch hit appearance. Huntsville Play By Play Pretty busy recap for tonight. 18. Final: Tennessee 10 Huntsville 5 The Stars jumped out to a 4-0 lead, then watched as the Tennessee Smokies broke out the long ball and rattled off 10 unanswered runs to win 10-4 Thursday night at The Joe. It was an off night for Stars starter Taylor Jungmann. Jungmann (9-6, 3.77) worked 5 innings tonight and finished with a no decision. Over those 5 innings, Jungmann allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while only striking out 1. One of the hits allowed was a home run. Only 40 of the 73 pitches Taylor threw were for strikes. He did post a solid 9-2 GO/FO ratio. With Jungmann only going 5 innings, the Stars bullpen was needed to cover 4 innings. Frankie De La Cruz, who has been very solid since coming down from Nashville, struggled tonight. De La Cruz (1-2, 4.66) worked 1 2/3 innings, giving up 5 runs, all earned, on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4. 2 of the hits allowed were home runs. De La Cruz's line could be a little misleading. He left the game with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the 7th. Righty Casey Medlen was called on to get out of the jam, but he couldn't. Medlen allowed a bases clearing double to the first batter he faced. Those 3 runs were charged back to De La Cruz. Arismendy Alcantara, who hit the double, was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. Arcenio Leon was brought in to work the last 2 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1. He also allowed a home run. Huntsville Box Score Huntsville knocked out 10 hits and 7 walks but were only able to push 5 runs across the plate. They were led by Chadwin Stang, who stayed hot. Stang went 3-4 with a run scored and drew a walk. Stang now has a 9 game hitting streak. Right fielder Rene Tosoni added 2 hits, including his 11 home run on the season. Joey Paciorek went 1-2 with a walk and 2 RBI's before leaving as part of a double switch. Brock Kjeldgaard was 1-4 with a walk and an RBI. Jason Rogers went 1-3 with a run scored and 2 walks. Hector Gomez had a single and an RBI, and Nick Shaw had the other Stars hit tonight. 19. Final: Tennessee 6 Huntsville 1 The Tennessee Smokies used the long ball to build a lead and 5 pitchers held the Stars offense in check as they defeated the Stars 6-1 Wednesday night. Stars starter Andy Moye worked only 4 innings tonight, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. The big problem was 3 of those 5 hits were home runs. That gives him 15 home runs allowed on the season, tops in the Southern League. Moye threw 56 pitches, 33 for strikes and posted a 6-2 GO/FO rate. Moye was pitching on longer than normal rest today as his scheduled start on Monday was rained out. His last outing before tonight was on July 14th and before that was on July 3rd, so there may have been some rust he was working off. The Stars used the short start tonight to get some work in for their bullpen. 4 relievers followed Moye to the mound Wednesday night, starting with Casey Medlen. Casey worked a perfect 5th, striking out 1. Righty Eric Marzec worked the 6th and started the 7th before being replaced without recording an out. Marzec didn't allow a run over his inning plus of work, but did give up a hit. His big issue was control as he allowed 3 walks, including the first 2 batters he faced in the 7th before departing. Big right hander Greg Holle came on and was able to get the Stars out of the jam in the 7th, without allowing a run. Holle worked 1 inning, allowing a walk while striking out 1. David Goforth worked the final 2 innings tonight for Huntsville. Goforth came into the game not having allowed a run in 17 1/3 innings. He got 1 out in the 8th before having that streak snapped. For the game, Goforth worked 2 innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1. Huntsville Box Score The 5 Smokies pitchers limited the Stars offense to 1 run on 7 hits and 5 walks. Second baseman Nick Shaw was the only Stars hitter to record more than 1 hit tonight. Shaw went 2-3 with a double and a run score. Shaw also drew a walk. Center fielder Chadwin Stang extended his hitting streak to 8 games with a 3rd inning double. Jason Rogers drove in the Stars only run tonight in the 6th on a single. That is his 62nd RBI on the season, tying him for the league lead. Rogers also drew a walk. Left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard reached base twice tonight, once on a single, and once on a walk. Shawn Zarraga singled as a pinch hitter in the 9th, his team leading 5th pinch hit. Third baseman Mike Walker recorded the other Stars hit tonight. Rene Tosoni and Eric Patterson each drew a walk for Huntsville. Huntsville Play By Play Slim pickings tonight for Stars highlights. Huntsville Bottom of the 6th Nick Shaw singles on a line drive to left fielder John Andreoli. Rene Tosoni walks. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Jason Rogers singles on a ground ball to left fielder John Andreoli. Nick Shaw scores. Rene Tosoni to 2nd. Pitching Change: Hunter Cervenka replaces Dae-Eun Rhee, batting 9th. Mike Walker grounds into a double play, second baseman Arismendy Alcantara to shortstop Javier Baez to first baseman Justin Bour. Rene Tosoni to 3rd. Jason Rogers out at 2nd. Brock Kjeldgaard walks. Eric Patterson grounds into a force out, shortstop Javier Baez to second baseman Arismendy Alcantara. Brock Kjeldgaard out at 2nd. Huntsville (14-17 second half, 43-56 overall) and Tennessee will play game 3 of this series tomorrow night. Righty Taylor Jungmann (9-6, 3.78) will start for the Stars. Game time is scheduled for 6:43 Central with Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen taking the air at 6:28 for the pregame show.
  20. Alex Cohen mentioned during a broadcast recently about the innings control and also the way Goforth projects, going forward, as a reliever.
  21. Final: Huntsville 6 Tennessee 4 The Huntsville Stars grabbed a 6-0 lead, then hung on to win 6-4 Tuesday night at The Joe. Stars starter Drew Gagnon cruised through 5 innings tonight before running into trouble in the 6th and 7th before departing. Gagnon (3-5, 5.67) worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. One of the hits allowed was a long, 2 run home run from Cubs top prospect Javier Baez. Gagnon threw 77 pitches, 55 for strikes and posted a 6-6 GO/FO ratio. After Gagnon got into some trouble in the 7th, right hander Kevin Shackelford was called upon to get out of the inning. He did just that and then worked a scoreless 8th as well. Shackelford's line was 1 2/3 innings, no runs, no hits, no walks and 2 strike outs. Since being promoted, Shackelford has pitched in 6 games, for a total of 8 1/3 innings and has only allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8. Very impressive. Primarily a catcher in college, Shackelford has a "young" arm in terms of innings pitched. Still learning, but impressing along the way. Lefty Brent Leach pitched a scoreless 9th, racking up 2 strike outs, to earn his first save in a Stars uniform. Huntsville Box Score Huntsville knocked out 9 hits tonight, 4 came from right fielder Rene Tosoni. Tosoni went 4-4, all singles, with a run scored and an RBI. He is the 4th Stars hitter to have 4 hits in a game this season. Brock Kjeldgaard and Adam Weisenburger each homered for Huntsville. For Kjeldgaard, it was his team leading 15th on the season. It was a 2 out, 3 run shot in the 5th which provided the winning margin for the Stars. First baseman Jason Rogers had the only other extra base hit, a 2 out run scoring double in the first, to give the Stars a lead they would not give up. Joey Paciorek also singled and Chadwin Stang had a single, drew a walk and stole a base. Second baseman Shea Vucinich didn't record a hit, but did draw 2 walks and scored a run. With Adam Weisenburger and Brock Kjeldgaard both homering in the same game, I thought back to this picture courtesy of @aweisenburger Brock is Big, Adam isn't Huntsville Play By Play Huntsville came up with a couple big 2 out hits tonight. 22. Not sure if that's a compliment to Demonico or an indictment of the Brewers farm system.
  23. Meanwhile, Doug and Mark keep holding onto their tradeable assets as the potential partners buy elsewhere.
  24. 65 games? Not nearly enough. Should have been several seasons. If you want to get cheaters like Braun out of the game, the punishment needs to be more of a deterrent. Slap on the wrist suspensions like this are not going to do anything to prevent the next cheater.
  25. Final: Pensacola 7 Huntsville 4 And just like that, Huntsville's 3 game winning streak is over. Pensacola fought back to take a 7th inning lead and hold on to defeat the Stars 7-5 Sunday afternoon in Pensacola. Righty Ariel Pena drew the starting assignment for the Stars. Pena finished with a no decision, but left with the lead. He worked 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks, and struck out 6. Pena also uncorked 2 wild pitches. The Blue Wahoos got to Pena in the first, but then he settled down and was cruising by the 4th. Then, in the 5th, he completely lost the strike zone, and if not for a double play ball, the damage could have been much worse. Pena needed 102 pitches to get through 5 with 59 of them for strikes. He also had a 6-2 GO/FO ratio. After Pena departed, Arcenio Leon was brought in. Leon (1-6, 6.88) worked a 1-2-3 6th, but could not get an out in the 7th, allowing all 3 batters he faced to reach before being lifted. For the night, Leon worked 1 inning, allowing 3 runs on 1 hit and 2 walks. The hit allowed was a 2 run home run. Leon was tagged with the loss. Greg Holle was called on to get out of the jam in the 7th. He was not able to. Holle allowed a triple to the first batter he faced, which drove in an inherited runner. The next batter knocked in the Blue Wahoos 7th run with a sacrifice fly, giving them their winning margin. Holle's line was 2 innings, 1 run on 1 hit with 2 strike outs. Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense fought back from an early deficit to take a lead, but the Blue Wahoos pitchers were able to hold Huntsville off the board after taking back the lead. After 3 home runs and 6 RBI's last night, first baseman Jason Rogers hit another home run tonight. It was his 14th on the season, tying him with Brock Kjeldgaard for the team lead. Third baseman Mike Walker was the only Stars hitter with more than one hit. Walker went 2-3 with a double and a walk. Shortstop Hector Gomez hit his first home run on the season, a 3 run shot in the 6th, which gave the Stars the lead at the time. Chadwin Stang tripled tonight to run his hitting streak to 6. It was the first triple of the season for Stang at the AA level. Nick Shaw reached base twice, a single and a walk, and drove in Stang with a sacrifice fly. Rene Tosoni had the Stars other hit, a first inning single. As a team, the Stars struck out 14 times, a season high.
