  1. Final: Huntsville 5 Chattanooga 4 (WALK OFF WIN!!) Back to Back 9th inning home runs from Adam Weisenburger and Mike Walker propelled the Stars to a come from behind win Sunday evening at The Joe. After getting a game tying home run from Shea Vucinich in the 7th, the Lookouts took the lead back in the top of the 8th to set up the bottom of the 9th heroics. This was the Stars 2nd walkoff win on the season, the other coming April 15th against the Tennessee Smokies. Righty Ariel Pena got the start tonight for Huntsville. Pena, who had his turn skipped last time through the rotation, seemed a little off tonight. Pena worked 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4. Pena threw 91 pitches over those 5 innings, 54 for strikes. Alex Cohen mentioned during the broadcast that the Stars videographer had Pena between 91-93 tonight. That is down slightly from earlier this season. Pena's ground out to fly out ratio was 6-2. Pena allowed a home run today, his 10th allowed this season. That leads the Stars (tied with Andy Moye) and is 2nd most allowed in the Southern League. The Huntsville bullpen worked 4 solid innings tonight. Frankie De La Cruz was first out of the pen tonight. He worked a scoreless 6th despite allowing a hit and a walk. Righty Kevin Shackelford made his AA debut tonight, working 2 innings out of the pen. Shackelford allowed 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 2. Greg Holle (3-2, 4.41) worked the 9th and picked up the win tonight. Holle worked a scoreless inning even though he allowed a walk, hit a batter, and committed an error. De La Cruz, Shackelford and Holle each had a 3-0 ground out to fly out ratio. Huntsville Box Score The Stars took some time getting going offensively, as they were no hit through the first 5 innings. Shortstop Hector Gomez broke that up in the 6th with an infield single. They then recorded 8 hits over the last 4 innings. Hector Gomez, Chad Stang, and Adam Weisenburger each had 2 hits. Weisenburger also reached on a hit by pitch. The other 2 hits were the home runs from Shea Vucinich and Mike Walker. Vucinich also drew a walk. Nick Shaw walked twice and drove in a run. Kentrail Davis did not start, but did enter the game in the 6th and drew a walk and scored a run. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars finally got going in the 6th Huntsville Bottom of the 6th Hector Gomez singles on a ground ball to first baseman Angelo Songco. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Kentrail Davis replaces Frankie De La Cruz. Kentrail Davis walks. Hector Gomez to 2nd. Chadwin Stang singles on a fly ball to left fielder Osvaldo Martinez. Hector Gomez to 3rd. Kentrail Davis to 2nd. Nick Shaw walks. Hector Gomez scores. Kentrail Davis to 3rd. Chadwin Stang to 2nd. Pitching Change: Michael Thomas replaces Chris Reed, batting 9th. Jason Rogers grounds into a double play, shortstop Miguel Rojas to second baseman Rafael Ynoa to first baseman Angelo Songco. Kentrail Davis scores. Chadwin Stang to 3rd. Nick Shaw out at 2nd. Rene Tosoni grounds out, second baseman Rafael Ynoa to first baseman Angelo Songco. Vucinich ties it up in the 7th Huntsville Bottom of the 7th Shea Vucinich homers (2) on a fly ball to left center field. Adam Weisenburger singles on a ground ball to left fielder Osvaldo Martinez. Mike Walker grounds into a double play, shortstop Miguel Rojas to second baseman Rafael Ynoa to first baseman Angelo Songco. Adam Weisenburger out at 2nd. Hector Gomez singles on a bunt ground ball to catcher Matt Wallach. Kentrail Davis pops out to third baseman Sean Burroughs in foul territory. Weisenburger + Walker = W! Huntsville Bottom of the 9th Pitching Change: Yimi Garcia replaces Hector Nelo, batting 9th. Shea Vucinich strikes out swinging. Adam Weisenburger homers (4) on a fly ball to left field. Mike Walker homers (9) on a fly ball to center field. Game 3 will be played tomorrow evening. Starting for Huntsvile (3-9 2nd half, 32-48 overall) will be right hander David Goforth (0-1, 13.50). Goforth will be looking to bounce back from a rough AA debut. Game time is scheduled for 6:43 Central with Stars play by play man Alex Cohen starting things at 6:28 with the pre game show.
  2. Final: Chattanooga 4 Huntsville 0 For the 9th time this season, the Huntsville Stars were shutout. Tonight, the Chattanooga Lookouts and their starting pitcher Zach Lee had the Stars number. Lee and reliever Onelki Garcia limited Huntsville to 3 hits and 3 walks in the whitewashing. For the Stars, starter Drew Gagnon had a major bounce back effort, but still was saddled with the loss. Gagnon, (1-3, 7.54) who didn't make it out of the 1st inning in his last start, worked 7 strong innings tonight in easily his best AA effort. Over those 7 innings, Gagnon allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6. He did hit a batter and uncorked a wild pitch as well. Gagnon saw his ERA drop from 9.19 coming in to 7.54 at the end. Gagnon threw 95 pitches, 64 for strikes and had a 9-2 ground out to fly out ratio. Reliever Casey Medlen worked the 8th and 9th innings for the Stars. He gave up a run on 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 3. It was the first run Medlen had allowed since June 14th. Catcher Adam Weisenburger helping out behind the plate, throwing out 2 would be base stealers. The Lookouts did have 2 stolen bases by top prospect Joc Pederson in the 8th which led to an insurance run. BASERUNNING SB: Pederson 2 (25, 2nd base off Medlen/Weisenburger, 3rd base off Medlen/Weisenburger). CS: Martinez, O (2, 2nd base by Gagnon, D/Weisenburger), Ynoa (8, 2nd base by Gagnon, D/Weisenburger). Huntsville Box Score On the night, the Stars were limited to 6 base runners. 5 different Stars reaching base with second baseman Nick Shaw leading the way. Shaw, who was in a 1-35 skid, singled twice, including a nice bunt in the 9th. Birthday boy Kentrail Davis singled in the 1st for the Stars only other hit. Chadwin Stang, Jason Rogers, and Hector Gomez each drew a walk tonight. With an 0-3, Rene Tosoni saw his hit streak end at 5 games. Stars outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard missed the game tonight, and is listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury. He's expected to miss a couple games, but not expected to land on the disabled list at this time. Huntsville Play By Play Not a lot to see in there, from a Huntsville perspective. Game 2 of this 5 game series will be played tomorrow afternoon. Righty Ariel Pena (5-6, 3.00) will be on the mound for Huntsville. Pena, who had his turn in the rotation skipped last time in an effort to limit innings, will be facing the # 5 prospect in the Dodgers organization, Chris Reed (3-7, 3.50). Game time is scheduled for 4:03 Central with Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen starting things off at 3:50 with the pregame show.
  3. Actually, it was Brock Kjeldgaard that left the game with a lower body injury. Kentrail Davis is very deserving of a promotion to AAA. Hopefully with Stang moving up, Davis will be bumped up as well.
  4. Final: Birmingham 2 Huntsville 1 Huntsville got an excellent outing from starter Andy Moye but it wasn't enough as the Birmingham Barons defeated the Stars 2-1 Friday Night. Moye (3-9, 4.59) pitched his 2nd complete game on the season. He went 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. Moye didn't walk a batter and struck out 6. One of the hits allowed was a solo home run to Barons's third baseman Cody Puckett in the 3rd. Moye threw 104 pitches, 75 for strikes. His ground out to fly out ratio was 8-6. Considering all the innings the bullpen has needed to eat up recently, Moye's outing tonight was just what they needed. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't scrape up a couple more runs to make him a winner. Huntsville Box Score Offensively, the Stars were held to 1 run on 4 singles and 3 walks by Barons pitching. Kentrail Davis was the offensive star tonight, going 1-2 with 2 walks, a stolen base, and scored the only run. As a team, the Stars have 36 stolen bases, Davis has 17 of them. First baseman Mike Walker drove in the only run, his 22nd RBI on the season. Rene Tosoni and Brock Kjeldgaard had the other hits for Huntsville and Jason Rogers drew the other walk. Tosoni now has a 5 game hitting streak. Brock Kjeldgaard left the game in the 5th with what was described as a "lower body injury". He did foul a pitch off his leg/foot earlier in the game and did break a bone there last year in the Arizona Fall League. Hopefully it turns out to be nothing serious. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars scored their only run in the top of the 7th Huntsville Top of the 7th Jason Rogers flies out to right fielder Keenyn Walker. Kentrail Davis singles on a ground ball to right fielder Keenyn Walker. With Adam Weisenburger batting, Kentrail Davis steals (17) 2nd base. Adam Weisenburger strikes out swinging. Mike Walker singles on a line drive to right fielder Keenyn Walker. Kentrail Davis scores. Pitching Change: Kevin Vance replaces Michael Nix. Robinzon Diaz lines out to center fielder Trayce Thompson. Huntsville (2-8 second half, 31-47 overall) heads home to start a 5 game home stand against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Game 1 will be played tomorrow evening. First pitch will be 6:43 Central. Right hander Drew Gagnon will be on the mound for the Stars. Don't forget to join Stars radio broadcaster Alex Cohen at 6:28 for the pregame show.
  5. Final: Birmingham 9 Huntsville 6 A 9th inning rally came up a couple feet short as Birmingham hung on to defeat the Huntsville Stars 9-6 Thursday night. Stars third baseman Shea Vucinich flew out to the wall with 2 on and 2 out in the top of the 9th to end the game. Starter Brooks Hall (0-2, 9.82) took the loss tonight for Huntsville. Hall went 4 innings, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. Hall threw 85 pitches, 49 for strikes and had a 7-3 ground out to fly out ratio. Perhaps all the innings the bullpen has needed to cover lately is catching up with them. Arcenio Leon was brought in to start the 5th. He lasted only 1/3 of an inning. He was charged with 3 runs on no hits, but 3 walks and a wild pitch. There was also a passed ball charged to catcher Shawn Zarraga that hurt Leon. Mark Williams, recently promoted from Brevard County, relieved Leon with a runner on 3rd and gave up a double to the first hitter he faced, driving in that runner. After walking the next hitter he faced, Williams settled down and pitched fairly well. His line was 2 2/3 innings, 1 earned run on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Santo Manzanillo pitched a perfect 8th tonight for the Stars, striking out 2. Stars pitchers issued 7 more walks tonight. They have now allowed 327 on the season, most in the Southern League. 2nd place is Montgomery at 290. Huntsville Box Score On offense, the Stars scored enough to win. After collecting double digit hits the last 2 games, they were held to only 9 hits tonight. Huntsville got 2 hit efforts from Jason Rogers, Robinzon Diaz, and Shawn Zarraga. Diaz also drove in 2 runs. Brock Kjeldgaard and Rene Tosoni each singled and drove in a run. Tosoni now has a 4 game hitting streak and has hits in 6 of this last 7 games. Shea Vucinich had the lone extra base hit tonight for Huntsville, a 4th inning double and also reach base on a hit by pitch. Short stop Hector Gomez collected an RBI on a 9th inning ground out. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars tied the game at 3 in the top of he 4th... Huntsville Top of the 4th Shea Vucinich doubles (5) on a line drive to right fielder Keenyn Walker. Jason Rogers singles on a line drive to left fielder Jared Mitchell. Shea Vucinich to 3rd. Kentrail Davis flies out to left fielder Jared Mitchell in foul territory. Jason Rogers to 2nd. Brock Kjeldgaard walks. Robinzon Diaz singles on a ground ball to center fielder Trayce Thompson. Shea Vucinich scores. Jason Rogers scores. Brock Kjeldgaard out at 3rd on the throw, center fielder Trayce Thompson to third baseman Daniel Wagner. Robinzon Diaz to 2nd on the throw. Rene Tosoni singles on a line drive to right fielder Keenyn Walker. Robinzon Diaz scores. Rene Tosoni out at 2nd on the throw, right fielder Keenyn Walker to pitcher Spencer Arroyo to shortstop Tyler Saladino. Only to give the lead back in the bottom of the 4th. Birmingham Bottom of the 4th Mike Blanke singles on a ground ball to right fielder Kentrail Davis. Daniel Wagner singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Brooks Hall. Mike Blanke to 2nd. Marcus Semien grounds into a double play, third baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Jason Rogers. Mike Blanke out at 3rd. Daniel Wagner to 2nd. Keenyn Walker walks. Trayce Thompson doubles (16) on a fly ball to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Daniel Wagner scores. Keenyn Walker scores. Dan Black flies out to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. The Stars end their current 10 game road trip tomorrow night. Game 5 of the series with Birmingham is scheduled for 7:05 Central. Righty Andy Moye (3-8, 4.85) will be on the mound for Huntsville (2-7 second half, 31-46 overall). Make sure to join Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen at 6:50 for the pre game show. This game will also be available on MiLB TV for those with a subscription.
  6. Final: Huntsville 8 Birmingham 2 Oh Yeah! The Huntsville Stars got a hit from every starter and used a strong pitching performance to dominate from start to finish in defeating the Birmingham Barons 8-2 Wednesday afternoon. Starter Taylor Jungmann (8-6, 3.60) struggled a bit with control but was able to make the pitches when he needed to in order to keep the Barons in check. Jungmann went 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4. He threw 99 pitches today, 55 for strikes and had a 7-3 ground out to fly out ratio. With his 8th win, Jungmann is now tied atop the Southern League pitchers in wins. The Stars got 3 innings of solid relief from the bullpen. Greg Holle pitched 2 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits while striking out 2 and Casey Medlen pitched a clean 9th inning. This was Medlen's 6th straight scoreless outing, covering 7 innings. Huntsville Box Score Huntsville knocked out 11 hits, drew 10 walks, and scored 8 runs, including 6 in the fourth with 5 coming after 2 were out, in their win today. Jason Rogers, Mike Walker, Adam Weisenburger, and Hector Gomez all reached base 3 times. One of Walker's hits was his 8th home run on the season, a solo home run in the 2nd. Center fielder Rene Tosoni stayed hot with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. Over his last 6 games, Tosoni is 11-27 (.407) with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and 4 RBI's. Brock Kjeldgaard also knocked in 2 runs. Kentrail Davis doubled, scored a run, drove in a run, and was hit by a pitch. One of the drawbacks of weekday baseball is listening at work, and as much as I would rather listen to the game, work does come first. Due to having to be away from my desk, I missed the HBP in the 6th that got the benches to empty. Alex Cohen was kind enough to fill me in stating that after Davis got plunked, he started chirping with Barons catcher Miguel Gonzalez and first baseman Dan Black. The benches emptied but nothing further happened. Davis did have to be restrained by 4 players though. No ejections but, still a couple games left in the series. Huntsville Play By Play Huntsville sends 12 to the plate, scoring 6 in the fourth Huntsville Top of the 4th Mike Walker walks. Robinzon Diaz flies out to right fielder Keenyn Walker. Adam Weisenburger singles on a ground ball to left fielder Michael Earley. Mike Walker to 2nd. Hector Gomez walks. Mike Walker to 3rd. Adam Weisenburger to 2nd. Nick Shaw out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Jared Mitchell. Mike Walker scores. Rene Tosoni doubles (12) on a line drive to right fielder Keenyn Walker. Adam Weisenburger scores. Hector Gomez scores. Jason Rogers walks. Kentrail Davis doubles (18) on a line drive to right fielder Keenyn Walker. Rene Tosoni scores. Jason Rogers to 3rd. Brock Kjeldgaard singles on a line drive to left fielder Michael Earley. Jason Rogers scores. Kentrail Davis scores. Mike Walker walks. Brock Kjeldgaard to 2nd. Pitching Change: Jake Petricka replaces Stephen McCray. Robinzon Diaz walks. Brock Kjeldgaard to 3rd. Mike Walker to 2nd. Adam Weisenburger strikes out swinging. Huntsville (2-6 2nd half, 31-45 overall) and Birmingham will play game 4 of the series tomorrow night. Brooks Hall (0-1, 10.13) will be on the mound for Huntsville. Game time is back to 7:05 Central. Don't forget to tune in starting at 6:50 to listen to the pre game show with Stars play-by-play man Alex Cohen. This series is available on MiLB TV for those with a subscription. Just mute the TV sound and turn up the Stars broadcast!
  7. Final: Birmingham 12 Huntsville 2 6 pitchers, including catcher/third baseman Joey Paciorek combined to give up 12 runs on 11 hits and 14 walks as Birmingham again coasted to an easy 12-2 win Tuesday night. Starter David Goforth made his Huntsville debut tonight. It did not go well. Goforth (0-1, 13.50) worked 2 2/3 innings, giving up 6 runs, 4 earned, on 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 1. Goforth threw 85 pitches over those 2 2/3 innings, 42 for strikes. There will be better nights. The Huntsville bullpen was asked to cover 5 1/3 innings tonight. This after going 7 1/3 yesterday, 5 innings on Sunday, and 4 innings on Saturday. Tonight, it was Frankie De La Cruz first out of the pen for the Stars. De La Cruz came on with the bases loaded and 2 out in the 3rd and was able to get out of that jam. He came back out for the 4th and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks. Stars radio broadcaster Alex Cohen commented that De La Cruz "looked gassed". Dan Meadows came on to work the 5th, but was only able to get 2 outs. Meadows line was 2/3 innings, 2 runs on 1 hit and 4 walks and a wild pitch. Eric Marzec relieved Meadows with the bases loaded and got out of it with a strike out. Marzec pitched the 6th and allowed a run on a solo home run. Casey Medlen was the most effective pitcher tonight for Huntsville. He worked a clean 7th Rather than extend Medlen another inning, catcher/third baseman Joey Paciorek was used to pitch the 8th. Paciorek's 2nd time pitching in a mop up role as he also pitched for Helena back in 2009. Paciorek, throwing in the low to mid 80's, allowed a run on a hit and 3 walks. Although they gave up 12 runs, it could have been worse. The Barons left the bases loaded 3 times tonight and stranded a total of 15 runners. Rough night for catcher Shawn Zarraga as the Barons stole 6 bases. BASERUNNING SB: Walker, K 3 (28, 2nd base off Goforth/Zarraga, 2nd base off Goforth/Zarraga, 3rd base off Goforth/Zarraga), Black, Da 2 (3, 2nd base off Goforth/Zarraga, 2nd base off De La Cruz, F/Zarraga), Thompson, Tr (14, 3rd base off De La Cruz, F/Zarraga). Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense was again limited to just 2 runs on 5 hits tonight. The Stars scored their runs on a 7th inning sacrifice fly from Shawn Zarraga and a solo home run from Rene Tosoni in the 8th. Third baseman Mike Walker had 2 of the Stars 5 hits, including a double. Shea Vucinich and Robinzon Diaz had the other 2 hits. The Stars drew 3 walks, one each by Vucinich, Nick Shaw, and Jason Rogers. Huntsville Play By Play Click on the link at your own risk. The good news, the Stars (1-6 second half, 30-45 overall) get to try and put this game behind them rather quickly as tomorrow's game will begin at 11:00am Central. Righty Taylor Jungmann (7-6, 3.76) will look to play the role of stopper for the Stars as he will be on the mound. Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen will be on the air at 10:45 with the pregame show. This series is also available on MiLB TV for those with a subscription.
  8. Final: Birmingham 14: Huntsville 2 Well, it wasn't their worst loss of the season. Birmingham scored early and in bunches as they defeated Huntsville 14-2 Monday night. Stars starter Drew Gagnon didn't make it out of the 1st inning. Gagnon (1-2, 9.19) worked 2/3 of an inning, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits. Both outs he recorded were via the strike out. Gagnon threw 43 pitches in his work tonight, 27 for strikes. Former starter Arcenio Leon had a bullpen saving effort tonight. Leon came on to relieve Gagnon in the 1st and ended up pitching 4 1/3 innings tonight. Over those 4 1/3 innings, Leon allowed a run on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Leon threw 50 pitches, 34 for strikes and posted a 7-4 ground out to fly out ratio. Leon, making a push to get back into the rotation. Santo Manzanillo, like Gagnon, could not complete an inning of work. Manzanillo was brought in to pitch the 6th but was only able to record 1 out before being taken out. He gave up 5 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk and a hit batter. Santo's ERA now sits at 7.71. Frankie De La Cruz, back with the Stars as of today, came on with the bases loaded and 1 out in relief of Manzanillo. After letting a run score on a wild pitch, De La Cruz struck out the next 2 batters to get out of the jam. He then worked a scoreless 7th as well, recording 2 more strike outs, so 4 of the 5 outs De La Cruz recorded were via strike out. Greg Holle also rejoined the Stars from Nashville, but his return was not as smooth as De La Cruz's. Holle pitched the 8th and gave up 4 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Huntsville Box Score Huntsville Manager Darnell Coles tried some different things tonight with the line up, but the Stars still only managed 2 runs. Jason Rogers got his first start of the season in the outfield, starting in left, and recorded an outfield assist. Brock Kjeldgaard played his first game at first base tonight. Shea Vucinich got the start at 2nd base tonight and was a bright spot on offense. Huntsville recorded 10 hits tonight, but could only plate 2. Center fielder Rene Tosoni led the offensive attack, going 3-5. This was Tosoni's second 3 hit game over his last three games and is 8-18, .444, over his last 4 games. Shea Vucinich was 2-5 with a run scored and catcher Adam Weisenburger went 2-3 with a walk, double, and a run scored. Weisenburger's double was the Stars only extra base hit. Robinzon Diaz, Brock Kjeldgaard, and Joey Paciorek each singled, Paciorek's drove in a run. Jason Rogers drove in the Stars other run with a sacrifice fly. Kentrail Davis drew his team leading 40th walk tonight. He had 54 last season. Huntsville Play By Play Read at your own peril! Tomorrow night, righty David Goforth will make his AA debut for Huntsville (1-5 second half, 30-44 overall). Game time is scheduled for 7:05 Central with Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen starting things off at 6:50 with the pre game show. Don't forget, this series is also available on MiLB TV for those with a subscription. Remember to turn the sound down on the TV and the sound up on the radio broadcast! Oh Yeah!!!
  9. Final: Jacksonville 11 Huntsville 2 The Stars woes continued Sunday night as the Jacksonville Suns coasted to an easy 11-2 victory. Huntsville starter Andy Moye did not have a happy homecoming as the Suns knocked him out of the game early. Moye (3-8, 4.85) lasted just 3 innings tonight, allowing 7 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Moye threw 72 pitches in those 3 innings, 41 for strikes. His ground out to fly out ratio was 2-2. The Huntsville bullpen was asked to soak up 5 innings tonight. Dan Meadows was first out of the pen. He allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits, 1 walk and a wild pitch. Righty Eric Marzec was next up. He also worked 2 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs on 3 hits while striking out 2. He also had a 4-0 ground out to fly out ratio and dropped his ERA to 2.03. Casey Medlen worked a clean 9th inning, striking out 2. Huntsville Box Score The Huntsville offense remains in it's funk. Over their last 10 games, the Stars have scored a total of 20 runs. Their record in those 10 games is 3-7. Tonight, the Suns held the Stars to 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks. 4 different Stars each collected a hit. Kentrail Davis, Shawn Zarraga, and Hector Gomez each singled for the Stars and catcher Robinzon Diaz had a pinch hit 2 run home run in the 9th to supply the Stars only runs tonight. Davis and Joey Paciorek each drew a walk for the Stars other base runners. Team RISP: 0-for-1. Team LOB: 4. Pretty much speaks for itself when talking about the Stars offensive troubles. Huntsville Play By Play Robinzon Diaz keeps the Stars from being shut out. Huntsville Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Jordan Conley replaces Edgar Olmos, batting 3rd. Joey Paciorek walks. Rene Tosoni flies out to right fielder Daniel Pertusati. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Robinzon Diaz replaces Casey Medlen. Robinzon Diaz homers (3) on a fly ball to left field. Joey Paciorek scores. Kentrail Davis walks. Brock Kjeldgaard strikes out swinging. Mike Walker strikes out swinging. Huntsville (1-4 second half, 30-43 overall) continue on their current road trip, heading to Birmingham to take on the Barons. Game 1 of the 5 game series will be tomorrow evening, starting at 7:05. Drew Gagnon (1-1, 7.20) will be on the hill for the Stars. Make sure you tune in starting at 6:50 to catch the pre game show with Stars Radio Broadcaster Alex Cohen.
  10. Final: Jacksonville 6 Huntsville 2 The Stars bats were silenced again as the Jacksonville Suns coasted to a 6-2 win today. Stars starter Brooks Hall (0-1, 10.13) took the loss tonight. Hall worked 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. The real thorn in Hall's side tonight was Suns first baseman Aaron Dudley, who hit 2 home runs and drove in all 4 runs Hall allowed. Coming into the game, Dudley was batting .048 (1-21). Hall threw 73 pitches in his 4 innings of work, 46 for strikes. He also had a 4-4 ground out to fly out ratio. Lefty Brian Garman relieved Hall in the 5th. Garman worked 2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and a hit batter while striking out 3. Arcenio Leon worked the final 2 innings, allowing no hits or runs but did walk 2. Huntsville Box Score Huntsville was held to 5 hits and 2 runs by Suns pitcher Robert Morey, who pitched a complete game. Offensively, the Stars were led by centerfielder Rene Tosoni. Tosoni went 3-4 with a home run, his 7th on the season for the Stars. The Stars only other base runners tonight were Hector Gomez and Kentrail Davis. Each reached base via singles. Gomez now has hits in 3 of his last 4 games and Davis has his batting average up to .283, good for 10th in the Southern League. The Stars drew no walks tonight. Huntsville Play By Play Rene Tosoni's home run came in the 9th. Huntsville Top of the 9th Nick Shaw grounds out to first baseman Aaron Dudley. Rene Tosoni homers (7) on a line drive to right field. Jason Rogers flies out to right fielder Kyle Jensen. Kentrail Davis grounds out, second baseman Chris Gutierrez to pitcher Robert Morey. The Stars and Suns will wrap up this series tomorrow evening. Huntsville (1-3 2nd half, 30-43 overall) will have right hander Andy Moye (3-7, 4.15)on the mound. Game time is scheduled for 5:05 Central with Stars radio broadcaster Alex Cohen on the air at 4:50 with the pre game show. Don't forget, this series is available on MiLB TV for those with a subscription. Remember to turn the TV sound down and turn up Alex and the Stars Radio Broadcast!
  11. Final: Huntsville 3 Jacksonville 1 (10 Innings) The Huntsville Stars got their 1st win of the second half of the season, defeating Jacksonville 3-1 in 10 innings on Friday Night. Right hander Taylor Jungmann was real good for the Stars. Jungmann went 7 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Jungmann had a 14-4 ground out to fly out ratio. He threw 89 pitches, 56 for strikes and was clocked at 92 on the stadium gun, which is known to be a couple MPH slow. The only run that scored against Jungmann was a result of a throwing error by Jungmann in the 7th. Jacksonville could have taken the lead in the 7th, if not for some stellar defense after the Suns run had scored. Nick Shaw was able to corral a ground ball with the infield in to prevent a runner from scoring and Hector Gomez made another spectacular play going deep in the hole to flag down a grounder and was able to get just enough on his throw to first to end the inning. Gomez had several big defensive plays to keep Jacksonville runners off the bases. Taylor ended up with his first no decision of the season, but saw his ERA drop to 3.76. Eric Marzec earned his 2nd win on the season tonight. Marzec (2-0, 2.17) pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th inning tonight, allowing a hit, a walk, and hitting a batter, but also striking out 3. Marzec also benefited from some Stars defense as right fielder Kentrail Davis had a "Web Gem of the Year" for the 3rd out in the 8th. Davis caught a fly ball, jumping into the fence, and holding on. It took a few seconds to sort out the confusion as to whether the ball was caught or not. Hopefully this highlight can be located and posted. Santo Manzanillo was called upon to pitch the 10th in a save situation. He gave up a walk, but was able to retire the Suns to close out the game. Huntsville Box Score Huntsville scored a run in the first to take an early lead. They then didn't have another base runner until the 9th. Suns pitchers Jay Jackson and Scott McGough retired 23 straight until Rene Tosoni's 9th inning single. The Stars ended up scoring 3 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks. Tosoni and Kentrail Davis each had 2 hits, with one of Davis's hits being his 17th double on the season. Mike Walker executed a perfect hit-and-run play, knocking a single through the hole where the defender had just vacated to cover the bag. Huntsville's biggest hit of the night came from Hector Gomez. Gomez, hitting only .164 on the season, and 3 for his last 32 coming into tonight's game, was able to put down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt in the 10th. So perfect, that he was able to turn it into a hit. Shawn Zarraga then came up as a pinch hitter and delivered an RBI double to give Huntsville an insurance run. Nick Shaw and Brock Kjeldgaard each drew a walk. Jason Rogers got Huntsville on the board in the first with an RBI ground out. It was his league leading 49th RBI. 12. Final: Jacksonville 2 Huntsville 0 For the 8th time this season, Huntsville was shut out as Jacksonville defeated the Stars 2-0 Thursday evening. Stars starting pitcher Ariel Pena pitched well, throwing a quality start, but the Huntsville bats were silenced on only 4 hits. Pena (5-6, 3.00) made 2 mistakes and the Suns made him pay. For the night, Pena went 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1. His mistakes were solo home runs allowed in the 4th and 6th. Alex Cohen mentioned Pena's fastball was clocked in the mid 90's on the radar gun tonight. Pena threw 87 pitches, 51 for strikes and had a 6-7 ground out to fly out ratio. Right hander Casey Medlen pitched the final 2 innings allowing only a walk. Pena and Medlen can thank catcher Adam Weisenburger for helping make their nights easier. Weisenburger cut down all 3 would be base stealers tonight. BASERUNNING CS: Gutierrez (1, 2nd base by Pena, A/Weisenburger), Jensen (3, 2nd base by Pena, A/Weisenburger), Main (2, 2nd base by Medlen/Weisenburger). Huntsville Box Score If there was any positive to take away from tonight's game it was that first baseman Jason Rogers is heating up again. Rogers provided 3/4 of the offense for the Stars tonight, going 3-4 with a double. Coming into the game tonight, Rogers was 1-18 over his last 5 games and had seen his average drop below .250 for the season. Huntsville's other hit tonight was a double from third baseman Mike Walker. Catcher Adam Weisenburger drew a 8th inning walk to be the only other baserunner tonight for the Stars. Team RISP: 0-for-3. 13. Thanks for the kind words! It's been a fun time writing up the summaries after the games. I'll try and get more mentions of Stars players rankings, good and bad, as they grind through the 2nd half. I've been impressed with Kentrail Davis's plate patience/discipline this season. He's on pace to walk 74 times if he keeps it up and stays in Huntsville for the full season. Kind of have to temper that a bit though as he is repeating. Ariel Pena turning his season around in May was also very impressive. Disappointed he was not moved up to replace Mike Fiers in Nashville. Hopefully he keeps rolling and forces the management to rethink keeping him there.
  14. Final: Jacksonville 9 Huntsville 4 Well, the second half of the season started the same way the first half ended, with a Stars loss. Tonight, the Jacksonville Suns hammered out 11 hits and scored 9 runs to knock off the Stars 9-4. Stars right hander Drew Gagnon got the start and struggled. Gagnon went 5 innings. He allowed 6 runs on 10 hits, 1 walk, and 2 hit batters. He also balked and threw a wild pitch. The good news, 7 of the 15 outs he recorded were via strike out. Gagnon (1-1, 7.20) threw 101 pitches with 64 being strikes. His ground out to fly out ratio was 3-2. Arcenio Leon was first out of the bullpen tonight. After working as a starter through nearly the entire first half of the season, Leon has shifted to the bullpen. Tonight, he allowed just one hit, but that one hit cost 3 runs. After allowing 2 walks in the bottom of the 7th, Leon allowed a home run to put Jacksonville up 9-4 after Huntsville had clawed back to make it a 2 run game. Eric Marzec worked the 8th. Marzec hit Miami Marlins top prospect Jake Marisnick in the arm/wrist. It was the 2nd time Marisnick was hit tonight and the 3rd time a Suns player was hit in the game. Marisnick left the game, hopefully as a precaution. What the HBP might have led to was a pitch that sailed behind Kentrail Davis in the top of the 9th. This is game 1 of a 5 game series. We'll see if there is more to this storyline or not. Huntsville Box Score Huntsville got 8 hits and 4 runs as their offense picked up the pace from their last series, but it wasn't enough tonight. The Stars were led by Hector Gomez who went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Brock Kjeldgaard, who's 2-3 night included a 2 run home run, the 100th of his career. Kjeldgaard was on base a 3rd time as he also drew a walk. Kentrail Davis doubled, walked and scored twice. Shea Vucinich, Adam Weisenburger, and Rene Tosoni each singled. Weisenburger and Nick Shaw each added a walk. Huntsville Play By Play Huntsville tying the game, temporarily, in the 2nd on Brock's 100th career dinger Huntsville Top of the 2nd Kentrail Davis walks. Game time is set for 6:05 Central with Stars play-by-play man Alex Cohen starting things at 5:50 with the pregame show.
  15. Final: Chattanooga 3 Huntsville 1 The Stars were again held in check as the Chattanooga Lookouts took the series with a 3-1 win Monday Night. For the 5 games series, the Lookouts pitchers held the Stars to a total of 9 runs, and with that, the Stars still took 2 games. Tonight, it was Ross Stripling that handled the Huntsville hitters and held them to 3 hits and 1 unearned run. Stars starter Andy Moye (3-7, 4.15) was the hard-luck loser tonight. Moye worked 5 innings, allowing 3 runs but only 1 earned, on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. The earned run came on a Joc Pederson home run to lead off the 4th. Moye threw 77 pitches, 49 for strikes and had a 4-4 ground out to fly out ratio. 3 Stars relievers combined to throw 4 shutout innings out of the bullpen tonight. Santo Manzanillo pitched the 6th, allowing a hit and striking out 1. Dan Meadows worked the 7th and 8th. The sidearmer was on tonight. He allowed a hit and hit a batter, but had a 4-0 ground out to fly out ratio. Casey Medlen worked a clean 9th, striking out 1. Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense was silent tonight. Their only run came as a result of a 2 out throwing error by Lookouts pitcher Ross Stripling. Pitcher Andy Moye led the Stars offense, going 1-2 with a double and scoring the Huntsville run. For the season, Moye is now 4-14 (.286) with 2 doubles. He is the only Stars pitcher to record a hit, so far. Second baseman Nick Shaw led off the game for Huntsville with a single and Kentrail Davis added a single in the 4th. For the season, Davis is now 15-33 for a .455 average against the Lookouts. Rene Tosoni and Hector Gomez each drew a walk for the Stars. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars only run scored in the 3rd Huntsville Bottom of the 3rd Hector Gomez grounds out, third baseman Sean Burroughs to first baseman Angelo Songco. Rene Tosoni reaches on a throwing error by pitcher Ross Stripling. Andy Moye scores. Rene Tosoni to 3rd. Jason Rogers grounds out, shortstop Osvaldo Martinez to first baseman Angelo Songco. And so ends the first half of the season for Huntsville. Their record ended up at 29-39 with 2 games cancelled due to rain. 13-22 at The Joe and 16-17 on the road. A couple quick notes, Brock Kjeldgaard, Jason Rogers, and Kentrail Davis each played in all 68 games. Kjeldgaard is 2nd in the league with 12 home runs and Rogers is tied for 4th with 10. Rogers still leads the league with 48 RBI's and is 4th with 113 total bases. Kjeldgaard is tied for 7th with 110 and Davis is 9th with 106. Davis is 3rd in OBP at .391, 6th in batting average at .286, and 5th in OPS at .837. Kjeldgaard leads the league with 80 strikeouts. On the pitching side, Taylor Jungmann is 2nd in the league with 7 wins. Greg Holle is tied for 5th with 26 games. Jimmy Nelson, prior to his promotion to Nashville, recorded 72 strikeouts. He's still 4th in the league with that mark. Ariel Pena is 6th with 70 strikeouts. When looking at areas of struggle, Pena leads the league with 42 walks allowed, Arcenio Leon is 3rd with 35, and Jungmann is 5th with 33. Team batting average for Huntsville is .238, 7th out of 10 teams in the Southern League. The team OPS is .679, also 7th. The team ERA is 4.13, 9th overall. Stars pitchers lead the league with 281 walks issued and 39 batters hit by a pitch. Too many runners not having to earn their way on base really hurt in the first half. The Stars allowed 50 unearned runs to score, most in the league. So, after a travel day tomorrow, Huntsville (0-0) will begin a 5 game series in Jacksonville against the Suns. Drew Gagnon should be the starter for Huntsville, but nothing has been announced just yet. Game time is set for 6:05 Central. Stars radio broadcaster Alex Cohen will have the pre game show, starting at 5:50.
  16. Stars Mount Comeback, Even Series With Lookouts By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars In danger of losing three straight games, the Huntsville Stars erased a one-run deficit and scored three runs in the seventh and eighth inning combined to beat the Chattanooga Lookouts by a score of 3-1 on Sunday at Joe Davis Stadium. For the third night in a row though, the Stars were shutdown by a Lookouts starting pitcher. On Sunday, righty Duke Von Schamann blanked the Huntsville offense through six innings, giving up just three hits and striking out four in his second Double-A start. On the pitching side, Stars starting pitcher Brooks Hall did his best to keep up with Schamann. In his first ever Double-A start, the 22-year-old didn't give up a run in his first four innings of work. However, in the fifth, Chattanooga would get to the Anderson, SC native and score their only run of the game. After striking out outfielder Blake Smith, Hall walked both first basemen J.T Wise and catcher Griff Erickson to lead to his exit from the game in favor of righty Arcenio Leon. The next at-bat, a RBI single from third baseman Ozzie Martinez gave Chattanooga the lead. The score stayed that way until the seventh inning when Lookouts righty Steve Smith (L, 1-0) came into the game to relieve Schamann. After striking out Stars outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard to begin the frame, Smith served up a solo homer to third basemen Mike Walker that just got over the wall and the outstretched arms of Smith in right-field to tie the game. With Smith still in the game to start the eighth inning, the Stars were able to take advantage of their previous momentum. Following a leadoff single by second basemen Nick Shaw and a sacrifice bunt by outfielder Rene Tosoni, a RBI single from first basemen Jason Rogers scored Shaw to give the Stars the lead. Then, after Rogers advanced to second on a wild pitch, outfielder Kentrail Davis came through with another RBI single to make the score 3-1. Aside from Hall and Leon, the Stars got a combined three innings of scoreless relief from three pitchers. Lefty Brian Garman earned the victory in relief, improving to 1-0 on the year after retiring the Lookouts in order in the eighth inning. Righty Greg Holle notched his sixth save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning. The win for the Stars was just their fourth of the season when tied or trailing after the seventh inning. On Monday, the Stars will try to win their series with Lookouts as the two teams will play the final game of a five-game series at Joe Davis Stadium. Huntsville will send RHP Andy Moye (3-6, 4.34 ERA) to the bump as Chattanooga will counter with RHP Ross Stripling (2-1, 3.30 ERA). First pitch is at 6:43 CT.
  17. Final: Huntsville 3 Chattanooga 1 A combination of good pitching and timely hitting lifted the Huntsville Stars to a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon. 5 Stars pitchers combined to limit the Lookous to 1 run on 3 hits in the win. Right hander Brooks Hall, who was roughed up in his last appearance, got his 1st AA start on Sunday. Hall was much better working as a starter. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowing 1 run and only giving up 1 hits but 3 walks. Hall also struck out 4. Of his 57 pitches, 38 were strikes. Hall also posted a 4-1 ground out to fly out ratio. Hall saw his ERA drop from 27.00 to 10.80. Arcenio Leon, who had been starting for the Stars this year, was first out of the bullpen today. Leon finished up the 5th and also pitched the 6th. His line was 1 2/3 innings, no runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 strike out. Casey Medlen worked 1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk. Brian Garman (1-0, 3.90) worked a clean 8th, earning the win. Greg Holle closed the game out with a scoreless 9th, picking up his 6th save in the process. It was Holle's 4th straight scoreless outing. Huntsville Box Score The Huntsville offense was held in check most of the game, until coming alive in the 7th. 3rd baseman Mike Walker jump started the offense in the 7th by hitting his 7th home run on the season. Nick Shaw stated the winning rally with a lead off single in the 8th. After a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Rene Tosoni, 1st baseman Jason Rogers drove in his league leading 48th RBI with a single, driving in Shaw, to give the Stars the lead. After a wild pitch moved Rogers into scoring position, left fielder Kentrail Davis drove him in for the Stars final run of the game. Brock Kjeldgaard led the hit parade with 2 of the Stars 8 hits, finishing 2-4 and raising his average to .262. Both Shaw and Davis reached base twice, each singling and drawing a walk. Rene Tosoni added a single to go along with his sacrifice. Catcher Shawn Zarraga had the other Stars hit. Team RISP: 2-for-4. Team LOB: 5. Clutch hitting led to the win today. Well done! 18. Final: Chattanooga 8 Huntsville 1 Huntsville and Chattanooga did not engage in an old fashioned pitchers duel tonight. Instead, a pinch hit grand slam in the 6th blew the game open and the Lookouts cruised to an 8-1 win Saturday night at The Joe. Stars starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann saw his streak of consecutive quality starts come to an end tonight. Jungmann (7-6, 4.13) worked 5 1/3 allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. Jungmann cruised through the first 5 innings, allowing a 2 out, 2 strike solo home run in the 3rd, but ran into trouble in the 6th. A couple of hits and a couple of walks and the Lookouts had taken a 2-1 lead when Jungmann was relieved by Dan Meadows. Meadows was brought in to face a lefty, but the Lookouts countered with right handed hitting Brian Cavazos-Galvez and Cavazos-Galvez cleared the bases with a grand slam. 3 of the runs were credited to Jungmann. In his 5 1/3 innings of work, Jungmann threw 88 pitches, 55 for strikes and had a 7-4 ground out to fly out ratio. The Stars bullpen was needed for 3 2/3 innings tonight. Dan Meadows recorded the final 2 outs in the 6th. His line was 2/3 innings, 1 run, 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 home run allowed. Santo Manzanillo came in to pitch the 7th. He worked a clean inning, recording a strike out. Eric Marzec was called upon to work the 8th. He ended up only going 2/3 of an inning, leaving with an apparent injury. For the night, Marzec allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Frankie De La Cruz finished the 8th and worked the 9th for Huntsville. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit, another pinch hit solo home run to lead off the 9th. Huntsville Box Score The Huntsville offense was again held in check by Lookouts pitching, managing only 1 run on 4 hits and 6 walks. Right fielder Kentrail Davis had half of the Stars hits, going 2-4 with a double and scoring the only Huntsville run. The run scored was Davis's team leading 41st. Brock Kjeldgaard had a single and shortstop Hector Gomez snapped an 0-29 run with a single in the 7th. Rene Tosoni drew 2 of the 6 Stars walks. 19. Final: Chattanooga 4 Huntsville 1 The Stars and Lookouts engaged in another old fashioned pitchers duel Friday night, but this time Chattanooga came out on top, winning 4-1 at The Joe. Stars starting pitcher Ariel Pena was impressive again, this time in front of Assistant General Manager Gord Ash. Pena (5-5, 3.00) ended up taking the loss as the Lookouts capitalized on 2 mistakes, hitting a couple of solo home runs. Pena went 6 innings, allowing just those 2 runs, on just 3 hits, 2 walks and a wild pitch while striking out 7. Both the walks and the wild pitch came in the 6th. Possible that Pena was tiring a bit. Temperatures are getting up there. Of the 95 pitches Ariel threw, 61 were for strikes. He also had a 7-4 ground out to fly out ratio. 7 of Pena's last 8 starts have been quality starts. Really great to see the improvement he's made from earlier this season. Personally, I think he's positioning himself for a promotion. Lefty Brian Garman worked 2 innings out of the bullpen tonight. Garman allowed a hit and nothing else. It would be nice to see Brian become more consistent. Casey Medlen worked the 9th. The Lookouts got a couple insurance runs off Medlen on 3 hits. Casey did strike out the side. Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense was provided by catcher Robinzon Diaz. His 8th inning solo home run providing the Stars lone run tonight. Huntsville was limited to 5 hits total, and Diaz's home run was their only extra base hit. They got singles from Nick Shaw, Kentrail Davis, Rene Tosoni, and Shea Vucinich. Jason Rogers drew his 15th walk on the season. In 254 plate appearances, Rogers has 15 walks, but 4 have come in the last 3 games. Huntsville Play By Play Huntsville's offensive highlight for tonight. Huntsville Bottom of the 8th Robinzon Diaz homers (2) on a fly ball to left field. 21. Final: Huntsville 3 Chattanooga 1 The Stars and Lookouts hooked up in an old fashioned pitchers duel Thursday night with Huntsville coming out on top 3-1 at The Joe. Righty Drew Gagnon got the start and earned his first AA win. Gagnon, who struggled a bit in his 1st start, was in control from the start. Gagnon (1-0, 5.40) worked 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3. Gagnon threw 90 pitches, 59 for strikes. He also had a 9-3 ground out to fly out ratio. Gagnon outdueled Dodger top prospect Zach Lee tonight to earn the "W". The Stars bullpen was strong, helping Gagnon secure that win. Frankie De La Cruz worked 1 1/3 innings, allowing only 2 hits and no runs while striking out 1. Lefty Dan Meadows pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up a hit and hitting a batter, but a double play got him out of that jam. Finally, 6'-8" right hander Greg Holle came on to close things out in the 9th. Holle allowed a hit and walked a batter but earned the save, his 5th on the season. The Lookouts nearly broke through in the 8th, but a couple of fine defensive plays by shortstop Hector Gomez kept them off the board. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Gomez saved a run by flagging down a grounder and keeping it on the infield. The next batter grounded into a double play to get out of the inning. So while he's struggling at the plate, Gomez is still playing top notch defense and helping the Stars win games. Huntsville Box Score On offense, it was the Kentrail Davis and Jason Rogers show for the Stars tonight. Davis got the Stars off and running in the bottom of the 1st, blasting a 2 run homer, his 5th on the season. Davis also singled, doubled, scored twice, and stole his team leading 16th base. Rogers went 2-3 with a walk and added a much needed insurance run in the 8th with a clutch RBI single. Rogers was later doubled off 2nd on a fly out to end the inning. The Stars also got hits from Rene Tosoni and Nick Shaw. Tosoni added a stolen base and Shaw also scored a run. Mike Walker drew a walk as well. The Stars had one other base runner tonight. Catcher Adam Weisenburger was hit by a pitch in the 2nd. He stayed in the game and ran the bases, but was removed before the top of the 3rd with what was described as an "upper body injury" which was peculiar as he was hit in his lower part of his body. Stars starter Andy Moye lasted only 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. Moye ended up with a no decision tonight. Santo Manzanillo was brought in to start the 6 and was taken out before he could retire a batter. In an outing he will want to forget, Manzanillo faced 5 batters and allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 5 hits including a home run. Manzanillo was saddled with the loss dropping his record to 1-3 and seeing his ERA balloon to 6.93. You have to wonder how long his 40 man spot will be safe. Casey Medlen came on in relief of Manzanillo in the 6th. Medlen gave up a hit and struck out 1. Greg Holle was called on to work the 7th. He retired all 4 hitters he faced as one batter reached on a wild pitch on a strike out. Eric Marzec pitched the 8th and gave up just a hit. Marzec's ERA is now down to 2.13 and he's really becoming a reliable arm out of the pen for the Stars. Canton, Ohio's Eric Marzec pitched a clean 9th. Stars pitching coach Chris Hook earned the Stars staff's first ejection of the season when he "got his money's worth" in an argument with the home plate umpire. It was described by Alex Cohen as Mahtook going up and over the wall to take a homer away from Rogers. The wall in question is 10 feet high and Mahtook was a couple feet above that.
