Final: Huntsville 8 Tenessee 7 Walk Off Win!!! The Huntsville Stars fought back from a 7-3 deficit with 4 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th to break their 4 game losing streak. Stars Starter Jimmy Nelson had another solid outing. Nelson worked 5 strong innings, giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8. Nelson threw 83 pitches, 52 for strikes. Stars broadcaster Alex Cohen mentioned the readings he was getting for Nelson was 91-94 with a couple pitches at 95. After Nelson exited, both Brian Garman and Thomas Keeling struggled, allowing the Smokies to extend their lead. Garman, who has been really solid for the Brewer organization throughout his minor league career, had an inning to forget tonight. He allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks. The 3 runs scoring on a Rubi Silva home run. Keeling allowed 2 unearned runs on 1 hit and 3 walks. Greg Holle worked a scorless 8th and closer Casey Medlen worked a clean 9th to give the Stars bats a chance for the comeback. Medlen was credited with the win tonight. Huntsville Box Score For the most part, the Stars bats were silent early on. A leadoff triple by Brock Kjeldgaard in the 2nd followed by a sacrifice fly by Mike Walker in the 2nd was the only offense they could muster until the 6th when they put together a 2 run rally. Stars pitching and defense gave those 2 runs back in the top of the 7th and things didn't look good. The Stars rally started in the 8th when they sent 9 to the plate and scored 4 times. The inning highlighted by a run scoring single by Jason Rogers, a bases loaded single driving in 2 by Walker, and Rene Tosoni's ground rule double to drive in another and tie the game. After Casey Medlen retired the Smokies in the top of the 9th, the Stars went to work in the bottom. Nick Shaw led off the 9th with a walk. Hector Gomez sacrificed him to 2nd. The Smokies threw to 2nd to try and get Shaw, but Shaw beat the throw and both runners were safe. This turned out to be the key play in the inning, as now the Stars had runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Next, heads up base running by Shaw as he took 3rd on a fly ball to center from Kentrail Davis. This set up Jason Rogers with the chance to win the game for the Stars and he delivered, with a sacrifice fly to center. Had the Smokies just gone for Gomez on the sacrifice bunt and recorded an out, Rogers would have needed a hit there to win the game. Instead, they took the chance on the lead runner but Shaw's speed won out. Rogers finished the game 2-4 with a run scored and 3 RBI's. Mike Walker also contributed 3 RBI's on a 1-3 night. Nick Shaw scored 3 runs going 2-4 with 2 doubles and a walk. Brock Kjeldgaard was on base 3 times, 2 walks and a triple, scoring twice, and Kentrail Davis stayed hot, going 2-4 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI, his 3rd stolen base on the season. Davis has now walked 8 times in 11 games. Rene Tosoni had the Stars other extra base hit, a double. Team RISP: 6-for-11. After struggling with runners in scoring position against Jacksonville, the Stars were clutch tonight. FIELDING E: Davis, Ke (1, fielding), Nelson (1, missed catch), Rogers, J (1, throw). 3 Stars errors lead to 3 unearned runs tonight. Huntsville Play By Play Cutting right to the chase. Stars 4 run 8th: Huntsville Bottom of the 8th Nick Shaw doubles (3) on a ground ball to right fielder Johermyn Chavez. Hector Gomez grounds out, third baseman Christian Villanueva to first baseman Justin Bour. Kentrail Davis singles on a line drive to right fielder Johermyn Chavez. Nick Shaw to 3rd. Pitching Change: Trey McNutt replaces Tony Zych, batting 6th. Jason Rogers singles on a line drive to center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha. Nick Shaw scores. Kentrail Davis to 2nd. Brock Kjeldgaard walks. Kentrail Davis to 3rd. Jason Rogers to 2nd. Mike Walker singles on a line drive to right fielder Johermyn Chavez. Kentrail Davis scores. Jason Rogers scores. Brock Kjeldgaard to 3rd. Robinzon Diaz grounds out, third baseman Christian Villanueva to first baseman Justin Bour. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter T. J. Mittelstaedt replaces Greg Holle. T. J. Mittelstaedt lines out to right fielder Johermyn Chavez. And the winning rally: Huntsville Bottom of the 9th Nick Shaw walks. Hector Gomez hits a sacrifice bunt. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Hector Gomez to 1st. Kentrail Davis flies out to center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha. Nick Shaw to 3rd. Jason Rogers out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha. Nick Shaw scores. As the case in his first 2 starts, Jimmy Nelson allowed a run in the 1st. Tennessee Top of the 1st Matt Szczur singles on a line drive to left fielder Rene Tosoni. With Arismendy Alcantara batting, wild pitch by Jimmy Nelson, Matt Szczur to 2nd. Arismendy Alcantara flies out to center fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Jae-Hoon Ha hits a ground-rule double (3) on a fly ball down the left-field line. Matt Szczur scores. Justin Bour strikes out swinging. Christian Villanueva strikes out swinging. That ground rule double that drove in the run, it went under, not over, the fence.

Final: Jacksonville 1 Huntsville 0 After combining for 16 runs last night, Jacksonville scored the only run tonight as Huntsville lost for the 4th consecutive game at The Joe. Arcenio Leon was the hard luck loser for the Stars. Leon went 5 1/3 innings, allowing the only run on just 2 hits. Leon did struggle with command as he walked 4, hit a batter, and uncorked 2 wild pitches. Still, he deserved a better fate. R.J. Seidel and Eric Marzec combined for 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Seidel going 1 2/3 and Marzec went 2. Both allowed a hit, a walk, and struck out a batter. Points of concern. Both Leon and catcher Adam Weisenburger left the game early. Weisenburger was hit by a pitch. He stayed in the game for another inning before giving way. Leon left with the trainer in the middle of the 6th inning with, what was described as, a possible finger/blister issue. No official word in either during the broadcast. Huntsville Box Score Rehabbing Brewer infielder Jeff Bianchi had 2 of the Stars 6 hits tonight. Bianchi played 5 innings at 3rd base tonight after playing 3 innings at short yesterday. Other Stars with hits tonight included Hector Gomez with a hustle double in the 8th, and Jason Rogers, Brock Kjeldgaard, and Rene Tosoni with singles. Rogers now has a modest 6 game hitting streak going. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars had chances: 2nd and 3rd with no outs: Huntsville Bottom of the 5th Robinzon Diaz reaches on a throwing error by shortstop Chris Gutierrez. Arcenio Leon walks. Robinzon Diaz to 2nd. With Nick Shaw batting, wild pitch by Sam Dyson, Robinzon Diaz to 3rd. Arcenio Leon to 2nd. Nick Shaw called out on strikes. Pitching Change: Michael Ojala replaces Sam Dyson, batting 9th. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Shea Vucinich replaces Jeff Bianchi. Shea Vucinich flies out to left fielder Jake Smolinski. Kentrail Davis grounds out, first baseman Mark Canha to pitcher Michael Ojala. 2nd and 3rd with one out: Huntsville Bottom of the 7th Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Rene Tosoni replaces R. J. Seidel. Rene Tosoni singles on a ground ball to second baseman Derek Dietrich, deflected by pitcher Michael Ojala. Nick Shaw walks. Rene Tosoni to 2nd. Shea Vucinich out on a sacrifice bunt, third baseman Zack Cox to second baseman Derek Dietrich. Rene Tosoni to 3rd. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Kentrail Davis strikes out swinging. Pitching Change: Rett Varner replaces Michael Ojala, batting 9th. Jason Rogers flies out to right fielder Kyle Jensen. Team RISP: 0-for-11. For the 5 game series, the Stars were a combined 9-45. Team LOB: 11. For the 5 game series, the Stars stranded a total of 41. The Stars, now 5-5, will continue the homestand tomorrow night. Jimmy Nelson looks to snap the losing streak as he takes the mound to face the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs). Game time is 6:43 Central with pre game starting at 6:28.

Final: Jacksonville 9 Huntsville 7 In a back and forth game, Jacksonville ended up on the winning side after scoring 2 in the 9th to hand Huntsville their 3 straight loss. For the second time in 3 games, the Stars starting pitcher did not make it through the 3rd inning. Andy Moye received a no decision tonight, going 2 2/3 allowing 6 runs, 4 earned, on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. Moye also hit 2 batters. Lefty Alan Williams walked the first 2 batters he faced in the third, but then retired 7 in a row, 3 on strike outs. Santo Manzanillo followed with 2 innings of relief, allowing a run on 3 hits, 1 walk and struck out a batter. Manzanillo was between 94-96 tonight per Stars Broadcaster Alex Cohen. Thomas Keeling pitched a scoreless 8th and came out for the 9th and that is when the wheels fell off. 2 walks, a single and a double to the first 4 Suns batters plated 2 runs to break the tie. Greg Holle came on to record the final 3 outs to close out the inning. Huntsville Box Score 11 hits and 7 runs weren't enough tonight. 1st baseman Jason Rogers led the stars with 2 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's tonight. Centerfielder Rene Tosoni and shortstop Nick Shaw also had 2 hits for the Stars. Shaw also drove in a run with a sac fly. Left fielder T.J. Mittlestaedt doubled and walked in his 2 plate appearances and Brock Kjeldgaard also reached base 3 times, twice via a walk and once on a hit by pitch. Despite all the hits they got, it's the ones they didn't that doomed the Stars tonight. A combined 4-13 with runners in scoring position tonight, including 0-2 in the bottom of the 8th. With runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, Kentrail Davis was called out on strikes and Jason Rogers popped out to end the inning. Utility infielder Jeff Bianchi made his 1st reahb appearance tonight. Bianchi started at short and went 1-2 at the plate. He played 3 innings in the field and did not handle a chance. Huntsville Play By Play What could have been. A promising inning that went by the boards. Huntsville Bottom of the 8th Pitching Change: Raudel Lazo replaces James Leverton, batting 9th. T. J. Mittelstaedt walks. Nick Shaw singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Zack Cox. T. J. Mittelstaedt to 2nd. Hector Gomez out on a sacrifice bunt, third baseman Zack Cox to second baseman Derek Dietrich. T. J. Mittelstaedt to 3rd. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Kentrail Davis called out on strikes. Jason Rogers pops out to shortstop Danny Black. The game winning rally for Jacksonville. Jake Smolinski doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder T. Mittelstaedt. Kyle Jensen scores. Zack Cox scores. Mark Canha walks. Pitching Change: Greg Holle replaces Thomas Keeling, batting 4th. Raudel Lazo strikes out on a foul bunt. Danny Black grounds into a double play, shortstop Hector Gomez to second baseman Nick Shaw to first baseman Mike Walker. Mark Canha out at 2nd. The Stars look to snap their losing streak tomorrow afternoon as Arcenio Leon will take the mound. Game time scheduled for 4:03 Central time with Alex Cohen's pre-game show starting at 3:48.

Final: Jacksonville 5 Huntsville 4 Huntsville blew a 4-2 lead in the 7th as Jacksonville completed the double header sweep with a 5-4 come-from-behind win tonight at The Joe. The Stars got a good start from Ariel Pena tonight as he allowed only 1 unearned run on 3 hits and no walks while striking out 2. Pena only went 3 innings tonight, throwing 58 pitches, 35 for strikes. Stars broadcaster Alex Cohen mentioned Pena was throwing between 91-93 tonight, per the Stars videographer. R.J. Seidel contributed 2 1/3 innings of good relief. He allowed a run on a solo home run while striking out 4. Casey Medlen came on to get the last 2 outs of the 6 and the first 2 outs of the 7th. Medlen was removed for Alan Williams to set up a lefty/lefty situation. Williams induced a ground ball to Mike Walker, who was playing 1st base as a result of a double switch, but the ball got under Walker's glove for an error. Greg Holle was then brought in to try and get the final out, but after a walk on a questionable ball 4 call, he allowed a 2 strike single (after another questionable ball call) that drove in the tying and winning run for Jacksonville. Huntsville did get 2 on with 2 out in the bottom of the 7th, but pinch hitter Shawn Zarraga flew out to end it. Huntsville Box Score Not much offense from the Stars in this one. Only Rene Tosoni and Kentrail Davis reached more than once, both had a single and a hit by pitch. Mike Walker with the only extra base hit tonight, a 1 out double in the 6th. Huntsville Play By Play One of the weirder innings you're going to see. Huntsville Bottom of the 1st Rene Tosoni hit by pitch. Shea Vucinich flies out to right fielder Daniel Pertusati in foul territory. Kentrail Davis hit by pitch. Rene Tosoni to 2nd. Jason Rogers singles on a line drive to center fielder Michael Main. Final: Jacksonville 9 Huntsville 4 Taylor Jungmann's 2nd AA start did not go as good as his 1st as Jacksonville erupted for 6 runs in the 3rd to take a lead they would not give up. After going 5 strong last week, Jungmann couldn't get out of the 3rd as the Suns took game 1 of the scheduled double header tonight. Jacksonville struck for 2 runs in the 1st in a continuation of an early season theme for Huntsville of falling behind. The Stars put together a 4 run 2nd to take the lead. Unfortunately, it was a short lived lead. Jungmann was only able to get 1 out in third. Newly promoted Eric Marzec came on with the bases loaded and 2 runs already in and walked the 1st batter he faced. A single, ground out, and double later, the Suns had scored 6 and took the game over. An insurance run in the 7th sealed it. Pitching note: During the broadcast tonight, Stars broadcaster Alex Cohen mentioned Jungmann topping out at 92 and Marzec in the upper 80's. Readings were coming from the Stars videographer tonight, not a radar gun behind the outfield. Huntsville Box Score Whoa Solvdd!! Catcher Adam Weisenburger is off to a fine start with the bat. Regarded as the best defensive catcher in the Brewers system, Weisenburger has impressed with the bat early on. His 2 run double in the 2nd highlighting the Stars rally. No Stars player with more than 1 hit tonight. Nick Shaw did have a single and 2 walks, T.J. Mittlestaedt and Jason Rogers both with a single and a walk, and Kentrail Davis saw his hitting streak snapped at 6 games, but did manage to draw 2 more walks, including one with the bases loaded. Huntsville Play By Play The Good: Huntsville Bottom of the 2nd Brock Kjeldgaard singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jake Smolinski. Mike Walker grounds into a force out, second baseman Derek Dietrich to shortstop Danny Black. Brock Kjeldgaard out at 2nd. Mike Walker to 1st. Final: Huntsville 5 Jacksonville 1 The Huntsville Stars won their home opener tonight behind another stellar outing from Jimmy Nelson 5-1. Following a similar script for the season, the Stars fell behind 1-0 in the 1st. The damage could have been worse as Jacksonville had the bases loaded with no outs and 1 in, but Nelson recorded a strikeout and induced a double play ground ball to get out of that jam. Nelson went 6 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 3 hits, 2 walks, a hit batter that actually drove in the only Jacksonville run and recorded 4 strikeouts. Brain Garman, Alan Williams, and Santo Manzanillo all pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Huntsville Box Score The Stars bats went to work in the 4th. Brock Kjeldgaard and Mike Walker each hit their 1st home runs of the season, both solo shots. The Stars added on with an RBI single from catcher Adam Weisenburger and a run scoring single from Jason Rogers and a double by Kentrail Davis to finish out the scoring. Huntsville Play By Play Jacksonville's 1st inning. You can see how close it was to getting away early. Great job by Nelson to bear down. Jacksonville Top of the 1st Derek Dietrich singles on a line drive to right fielder Kentrail Davis. Danny Black reaches on a fielding error by second baseman T. J. Mittelstaedt. Derek Dietrich to 2nd. J. T. Realmuto walks. Derek Dietrich to 3rd. Danny Black to 2nd. Kyle Jensen hit by pitch. Derek Dietrich scores. Danny Black to 3rd. J. T. Realmuto to 2nd. Jake Smolinski strikes out swinging. Zack Cox grounds into a double play, shortstop Nick Shaw to second baseman T. J. Mittelstaedt to first baseman Jason Rogers. Kyle Jensen out at 2nd. And here is the Stars taking the lead in the 4th Huntsville Bottom of the 4th Kentrail Davis called out on strikes. Brock Kjeldgaard homers (1) on a fly ball to center field. Rene Tosoni called out on strikes. Mike Walker homers (1) on a fly ball to left center field. Adam Weisenburger singles on a line drive to right fielder Kyle Jensen. Jimmy Nelson strikes out swinging Game 2 of the series goes tomorrow night, weather permitting. Taylor Jungmann will pitch for the Stars. Game time scheduled for 6:43 Central time. Alex Cohen will have the pre-game show starting at 6:28.

Final: Huntsville 3 Chattanooga 1 Welcome to Huntsville Andy Moye! Moye and 6'-8" righty Greg Holle combined on a 1 hitter to help Huntsville earn a split in today's double header and secure the series win. After allowing a lead off home run to Joc Peterson, Moye retired 18 of the next 19 including 13 in a row, allowing only a 1 out walk in the 5th. He also racked up 4 strikeouts over his 6 innings of work. Holle induced 3 ground balls in the 7th to earn the save. Moye was also in line to pick up his 1st hit of the season, lining a ball into right field, but Lookouts outfielder Blake Smith came up firing and on a close play, he was called out at 1st. Huntsville Game 2 Box Score For the 1st time in the series, Huntsville scored 1st. After shortstop Nick Shaw drew a lead off Shea Vucinich doubled. Jason Rogers followed with a walk and hot hitting Kentrail Davis came through with an infield single driving in Shaw. Brock Kjeldgaard drove in Vucinich with a sacrifice fly and gave the Stars a 2 run lead. Huntsville's only other hit was a T.J. Mittlestaedt home run, the 1st by a Stars player this season, in the 7th. The Stars actually drew more walks, 4, than hits, 3, in this game. What isn't going to show up in the box score are the 3 catches Kjeldgaard made leaping against the wall today to take away extra base hits. Huntsville Game 2 Play By Play With only a combined 4 hits and 5 walks between the teams, not a lot in the recap. Still really like what Greg Holle has done so far this season. More innings like this will only continue to help him work toward the big club. Chattanooga Bottom of the 7th Pitching Change: Greg Holle replaces Andy Moye, batting 9th, replacing Mike Walker. Omar Luna grounds out, second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Jason Rogers. Blake Smith grounds out, shortstop Nick Shaw to first baseman Jason Rogers. Bobby Coyle grounds out, shortstop Nick Shaw to first baseman Jason Rogers. Game 5 of this series is set for tomorrow night. 6:15 Central start. Believe that Arcenio Leon will be starting for Huntsville. Huntsville will play 28 five games series this season. 14 home, 14 away. Longest home stand, 10 games. Longest road trip, 10 games. 140 games in 151 days.

Final - Chattanooga 8 Huntsville 0 Chattanooga handed Huntsville their 1st loss of the season defeating the Stars 8-0 in game 1 of the scheduled double header today. Just like in the first 2 games of the series, Chattanooga jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning. Unlike the prior games, the Stars bats did not come alive and after a 6 spot in the 4th, Chattanooga cruised to an easy 8-0 win. Ariel Pena, 40 man roster player and the 19th rated prospect in the Brewer organization, started and took the loss. Pena lasted only 3 1/3 innings today. He was charged with 5 earned runs on only 3 hits. Control was an issue with 5 walks. La Crosse native R.J. Seidel relieved Pena with the bases loaded in the 4th and after striking out opposing pitcher Andres Santiago, he allowed a 2 run single to Rafael Ynoa and a 3 run homer to Joc Pederson which essentially put the game away. Huntsville Box Score Center fielder Rene Tosoni had 2 of the Stars 5 hits today. Kentrail Davis went 1-2 with the lone extra base hit, a double in the 2nd. Davis was also intentionally walked with 2 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 3rd, but Brock Kjeldgaard struck out on 3 pitches to end the inning. Huntsville Play By Play As mentioned by WV Brew earlier in the Link Report, a strange play where Rene Tosoni singled off one of the base umpires. The ball was ruled dead and Kentrail Davis had to return to 2nd base. This proved costly when Davis was thrown out at the plate trying to score from 2nd on catcher Robinzon Diaz's single to left. Huntsville Top of the 2nd Kentrail Davis doubles (1) on a sharp line drive to right fielder Yasiel Puig. Brock Kjeldgaard called out on strikes. Rene Tosoni singles on a ground ball to second baseman Rafael Ynoa. Mike Walker flies out to left fielder Joc Pederson. Robinzon Diaz singles on a ground ball to left fielder Joc Pederson. Kentrail Davis out at home on the throw, left fielder Joc Pederson to catcher Gorman Erickson. Game 2 is scheduled to begin around 4:15 Central Time. Andy Moye is scheduled to make his season debut for the Stars.

Final: Huntsville 5 Chattanooga 4 Chattanooga took another early lead only to have Huntsville come back and take over the game behind another dominant start and strong hitting. Taylor Jungmann was the story tonight. Making his AA debut, Taylor earned the win by pitching 5 very strong innings allowing only a run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 4 strike outs. After allowing a run in the 1st on a walk, a stolen base, and a single, Jungmann retired the 12 out of the next 13 Lookout hitters he faced. On an early season pitch count, Jungmann threw 64 pitches, 42 for strikes. 40 man roster pitcher Santo Manzanillo came on to pitch 2 clean innings hitting 95 on the radar gun. Hopefully the shoulder is fully healed and Santo can get back to his 2011 form. Lefty Thomas Keeling struggled tonight allowing 2 runs in 1/3 of an inning. Another lefty, Brian Garman came on to limit the damage, getting the last 2 outs of the 8th. Casey Medlen earned his 2nd save in as many nights, striking out the potential winning run on a 3-2 breaking ball. Huntsville Box Score On offense, the Stars were led by the middle of the order. Jason Rogers, Kentrail Davis, and Brock Kjeldgaard combined to go 7-14 and drove in 4 of the 5 Stars runs. Davis has reached base in 8 of his 10 plate appearances with 4 hits and 4 walks. Mike Walker reached base 3 times and Nick Shaw reached twice and scored twice including on a wild pitch in the 5th. After committing 2 errors last night, the Stars had a clean night in the field. Huntsville Play By Play Chattanooga tried to pull this one out in the 9th, scoring a run on Uber-Prospect Yasiel Puig's solo home run to lead off and getting the tying run on base with 2 outs before Medlen struck out pinch hitter Blake Smith to end it. Chattanooga Bottom of the 9th Pitching Change: Casey Medlen replaces Brian Garman, batting 9th. Yasiel Puig homers (1) on a fly ball to left center field. J. T. Wise pops out to third baseman Mike Walker in foul territory. Omar Luna flies out to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Bobby Coyle singles on a soft line drive to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Blake Smith replaces Dashenko Ricardo. Blake Smith called out on strikes. Sunday will be a double header to make up for Thursday night's rain out. Ariel Pena will start game 1 and Arcenio Leon will go in the 2nd game. Both games will be a scheduled 7 innings with game 1 to start at 1:15 Central time. -

Jungmann done after 5 very strong innings tonight. 40 man roster player Santo Manzanillo in. Per Alex, Santo's velocity appears good. Recorded a strikeout on the 1st batter he faced on a 94 MPH fastball. -

Final: Huntsville Stars 7 Chattanooga Lookouts 5 The Huntsville Stars pounded out 12 hits and received stong pitching performances from starter Jimmy Nelson and 3 relievers to open the 2013 season with a solid 7-5 win in Chattanooga. A shaky 1st inning thanks to a couple fielding errors put the Stars in an early 2-0 hole. The Lookouts added 2 more runs in the third to increase their lead to 4-0. The Stars took over after that. Paced offensively by Brock Kjeldgaard's 3-5 night including a double, triple, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored, the Stars scored runs in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th innings to take the game over. Chattanooga scored a run in the 9th off lefty Alan Williams, but Casey Medlen came on to slam the door and record his 1st save of the season. Huntsville Stars Box Score Besides Kjeldgaard, 1st baseman Jason Rogers and center fielder Rene Tosoni each had 2 hit games and right fielder Kentrail Davis was on base 3 times with a hit and 2 walks. Every Stars starter with the exception of shortstop Ozzie Chavez recorded a hit, and catcher Shawn Zarraga also picked up a hit in a pinch hit appearance. Strong pitching tonight from all 4 Stars pitchers. Starter Jimmy Nelson picked up the win, going 5 innings allowing 4 runs, 2 earned on 5 hits and no walks while striking out 8. Greg Holle retired all 6 batters he faced with 3 strike outs. Alan Williams allowed a run on 2 hits and a walk while recording 2 strike outs over 1 2/3 innings and Casey Medlen, after recording 22 saves last season, got the final out to record his 1st save of 2013. Chattanooga contributed to the Stars offense by committing 5 errors, including 3 from 1st basemen Chris Jacobs, who also went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts. Stars Play By Play The 3rd inning was really the only trouble for Jimmy Nelson tonight. Stars 4th had the potential to be even bigger with the 1st 5 hitters reaching base before the next 3 were retired. Huntsville Top of the 4th Jason Rogers reaches on a throwing error by third baseman C. Retherford. Rene Tosoni reaches on a fielding error by first baseman Chris Jacobs. Jason Rogers to 2nd. Brock Kjeldgaard triples (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Yasiel Puig. Jason Rogers scores. Rene Tosoni scores. Mike Walker singles on a line drive to right fielder Yasiel Puig, deflected by pitcher Zach Lee. Brock Kjeldgaard scores. Adam Weisenburger walks. Mike Walker to 2nd. Jimmy Nelson called out on strikes. Nick Shaw flies out to center fielder Joc Pederson. Ozzie Chavez strikes out swinging. Game 2 is tomorrow night. 6:15 central time start. Taylor Jungmann will make his AA debut with the start for Huntsville against Chris Reed for Chattanooga. -

Good to see the organization giving Prince time at SS again. The more positons he can play, the more chance he will have to help the big team in the future. -

While not roster assignments yet, I did ask our friend Chris Mehring if any of the players from the Dominican Summer League were stateside. He let me know that Francisco Castillo, Milton Gomez, Jorge Ortega, Carlos Pena, Elvis Rubio, and Juan Santiago were all in camp. Obviously don't know much about any of these players. Francisco Castillo is a switch hitting center fielder and appears to have good speed but no power. 19 years old and this will be his 3rd season in the Brewer organization Milton Gomez, also 19 and starting his 3rd season in the organization. Seems to be a ground ball pitcher with a rate of 2.98 G/F over the last 2 seasons and only 2 total home runs allowed in 83.2 innings. Primarily has been used as a starter. Jorge Ortega will turn 20 later this summer. Also starting his 3rd season. A right handed starter, Ortega pitched 78 innings last season without allowing a home run. He had allowed 5 in his previous season. Ortega posted a 2.06 G/F rate and a 4-1 K/BB rate. Carlos Pena is the 2nd "Carlos Pena" the Brewers have had. Coincidently, both were catchers. This will be the 20 year olds 4th year in the organization. 18 year old Elvis Rubio will begin his 3rd season in the organization. 6'-3" and 215 pounds. Hopefully that stature can translate into some power from the outfield. Juan Santiago is a 22 year old left handed pitcher. Only 5'-11" and 176 pounds. He seemed to really take a step forward cutting his walk rate from 8 per 9 innings in 2011 to 3.6 in 2012. He also posted a 3 G/F rate and 10.77 K/9 while nearly doubling his inning total from 2011-2012. 2013 will be his 4th professional season. I would guess Arizona would be the most likely destination for these players this season.

All right, Mother Nature cooperating tonight. Huntsville about to begin their season. Join the fun with Alex Cohen and listen in. One of the cool features with the Huntsville broadcasts is the link to listen in with your iPhone/iPad. Chattanooga has Cuban defector and top prospect Yasiel Puig in their outfield for now.
