Final: Montgomery 3 Huntsville 0 Despite a strong start from Taylor Jungmann, the Biscuits were able to break through and defeat the Stars 3-0 Sunday Afternoon. Jungmann (3-5) went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs, all earned, on 7 hits and 1 walk with no strikeouts. Taylor posted a 14-3 ground ball to fly ball ratio and of the 97 pitches he threw, 62 were for strikes. This is the 3rd straight strong outing for Taylor after his precautionary stint on the disabled list earlier this month. "Thunder" Dan Meadows made his season debut at Huntsville in the game today. He pitched 2 scoreless innings, didn't allow a hit or walk, but did hit 2 batters. Meadows, working his way back up the ladder as a side-armer now, had a 5-1 ground ball to fly ball ratio. If he's able to continue to pitch the way he did in Brevard County and here today, he's someone to watch for a possible promotion later this season. Huntsville Box Score The Huntsville offense today was Robinzon Diaz. Not led by Diaz, he was it. The stars were limited to 3 hits and Diaz had all 3, including his 6th double on the season. The Stars did draw 2 walks, one from Nick Shaw and the other by Shawn Zarraga and third baseman Mike Walker was hit by a pitch. Final: Huntsville 6 Montgomery 1 (Game 2) SWEEP!!!! The Stars were able to earn a doubleheader sweep against Montgomery with a 6-1 victory in game 2 Saturday night. Starter Ariel Pena (3-3) continued his remarkable May picking up another win. Pena worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing only 1 unearned run (scored in the 7th after he left the game) on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7. Pena was consistently in the 92-96 MPH range per Alex Cohen on the broadcast. After an April where Pena went 1-2 with a 4.84 ERA, 22 1/3 innings, 16 hits and 18 walks against 12 strike outs, in May he's 2-1 with a 0.89 ERA. In 20 1/3 innings, Pena's allowed 4 runs but only 2 earned on 13 hits and 7 walks while striking out 25. His ERA for the season is now down to 2.95. He's getting more pitches over early for strikes. Very nice work! Stars manager Darnell Coles tried to get Pena through the 7th, but with 103 pitches already thrown, he turned to Santo Manzanillo to close it out. Manzanillo did allow an inherited runner to score on a ground out, but put that runner in position to score with a wild pitch earlier in the at bat. Santo did record the last 2 outs to finish the game. Huntsville Box Score The Stars kept their hitting shoes on for the nightcap as they were able to pound out 10 more hits and scored 6 runs. Jason Rogers again went 2-3 to lead the Stars attack. In his last 3 games, Rogers is now 6-11 (.545) with 2 home runs and 5 RBI's. Kentrail Davis got the Stars on the board in the 1st with a solo home run. For the game, Davis was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Ozzie Chavez was 1-3 with 3 RBI's. That doubled Chavez's RBI total for the season. Catcher Shawn Zarraga was 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Zarraga is now hitting .317 in limited playing time. Third baseman Shea Vucinich went 1-2 with a walk and scored twice. Centerfielder Rene Tosoni went 1-2 with a walk and an RBI and second baseman Nick Shaw was 1-3 with an RBI. Team RISP: 3-for-7. Team LOB: 6. Again, nice work with runners in scoring position! Huntsville Play By Play Kentrail Davis gives the Stars an early lead. Game time is scheduled for 4:03 Central with Alex Cohen and the pregame show starting at 3:48.

Final: Huntsville 7 Montgomery 5 (Game 1) Jimmy Nelson wasn't his sharpest but he was good enough to help the Stars earn a 7-5 win in game 1 of tonight's doubleheader. Nelson (5-2) earned the win despite not having his best start. He worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks while only striking out 1. Nelson allowed a home run and hit 3 batters. Of the 90 pitches Jimmy threw, 50 were for strikes. He also posted a 7-3 ground out to fly out ratio. The Stars got 1 2/3 innings of scoreless bullpen work to close out the win. Lefty Thomas Keeling came in to relieve Nelson in the 6th and stranded 2 inherited runners. Keeling worked the 1st out in the 7th before turning it over to Greg Holle. Holle recorded the last 2 outs in the 7th to record his 3rd save on the season. Holle now has not allowed an earned run since April 26th and Keeling has now gone 10 straight appearances without allowing a run. Those 2 have really been pitching well. Huntsville Box Score The Stars offense was on tonight. All 9 hitters reached base at least once on 10 hits and 3 walks. The Stars were led by hot hitting Jason Rogers. Rogers went 2-3 with a home run, scored twice and drove in 3. The home run was Rogers 7th on the season and his 5th in the last 9 games. Brock Kjeldgaard was also 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Rene Tosoni was 1-3 with his 3rd home run on the season. Robinzon Diaz drove in the Stars other run. Kentrail Davis was the only Stars hitter without a hit, but did draw 2 walks, continuing his excellent eye at the plate he's shown this season. Last season Davis drew 54 walks in 122 games. So far this season, Davis has walked 27 times in only 40 games. A marked improvement. Hector Gomez started for the 1st time since he was removed after a half inning one week ago with what was described on a recent broadcast as a minor injury. Team RISP: 3-for-8. Team LOB: 4. Nice to see numbers like this Huntsville Play By Play The Stars big 4 run inning Huntsville Bottom of the 5th Joey Paciorek walks. Nick Shaw singles on a bunt ground ball to catcher Mayo Acosta. Joey Paciorek to 2nd. Hector Gomez out on a sacrifice bunt, catcher Mayo Acosta to second baseman Robby Price. Joey Paciorek to 3rd. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Jacob Thompson intentionally walks Kentrail Davis. Jason Rogers singles on a line drive to right fielder Mikie Mahtook. Joey Paciorek scores. Nick Shaw scores. Kentrail Davis to 2nd. Rene Tosoni grounds out to first baseman Cameron Seitzer. Kentrail Davis to 3rd. Jason Rogers to 2nd. Brock Kjeldgaard singles on a line drive to left fielder Todd Glaesmann, deflected by center fielder Kevin Kiermaier. Kentrail Davis scores. Jason Rogers scores. Pitching Change: Andrew Bellatti replaces Jacob Thompson. Mike Walker grounds out, second baseman Robby Price to first baseman Cameron Seitzer. Game 2 recap to be up shortly.

Final: Huntsville 5 Mississippi 4 Just when it looked like the Stars were going to go down to defeat, Jason Rogers stepped up and blasted a 2 run home run in the top of the 9th to give the Stars their 1st series win since the opening series of the season. Arcenio Leon turned in a decent start for Huntsville. Leon, working through a nagging injury, went 5 innings allowing just 1 run, on a 1st inning home run, on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. Leon was clocked at 94 tonight. He threw 45 of 79 pitches for strikes. The bullpen was not able to hold the lead tonight as the normally stellar Alan Williams was tagged for 2 runs on a 7th inning home run. Williams went 2 innings and gave up those 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk while striking out 3. Greg Holle (2-1) pitched the 8th and allowed an unearned run on a wild pitch. Holle allowed 1 hit and 1 walk. After Jason Rogers' heroics, Casey Medlen came on to close it out working a scoreless 9th to record his 6th save. The 9th wasn't without drama as a walk and a stolen base had the tying run on 2nd when the final out was recorded on a very deep fly ball that sounded like it was going out. Huntsville Box Score The big story offensively was Jason Rogers game winning 2 run homer in the 9th. Rogers added a single earlier in the game. His 31 RBI's have him tied for 2nd in the Southern League in that category. The home run was Rogers 6th on the season, tying him with Brock Kjeldgaard for the team lead. Catcher Shawn Zarraga had a big night as he went 3-4 with a double. Second baseman Nick Shaw singled twice and scored twice. Kjeldgaard had an RBI infield single and Mike Walker added a single as well. Shortstop Hector Gomez made an appearance as a pinch hitter tonight. It was the 1st time Gomez played since leaving the game after 1 inning on May 11 with a minor injury. Huntsville Play By Play If not for Rogers home run, the Stars would have been lamenting their missed chances, like this. Huntsville Top of the 5th Nick Shaw singles on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Martinez. Ozzie Chavez walks. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Jason Rogers strikes out swinging. Rene Tosoni walks. Nick Shaw to 3rd. Ozzie Chavez to 2nd. Pitching Change: Erik Hamren replaces Aaron Northcraft, batting 9th. Brock Kjeldgaard singles on a ground ball to third baseman Edward Salcedo. Nick Shaw scores. Ozzie Chavez to 3rd. Rene Tosoni to 2nd. Mike Walker strikes out swinging. With Joey Paciorek batting, passed ball by Braeden Schlehuber, Ozzie Chavez scores. Rene Tosoni to 3rd. Brock Kjeldgaard to 2nd. Joey Paciorek strikes out swinging. The 9th. M-Braves pitcher Pat Egan was in Brewers camp a couple springs ago as a rule V candidate. Huntsville Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Pat Egan replaces Cole McCurry, batting 7th, replacing Philip Gosselin. Nick Shaw grounds out, shortstop Barrett Kleinknecht to first baseman Christian Marrero. Ozzie Chavez walks. Jason Rogers homers (6) on a fly ball to left center field. Ozzie Chavez scores. Rene Tosoni flies out to center fielder Mycal Jones. Brock Kjeldgaard strikes out swinging. The Stars head back to The Joe to open a 5 game series against the Montgomery Biscuits. Game 1 is tomorrow night. Jimmy Nelson should get the start for Huntsville. Game time is scheduled for 6:43 with Alex Cohen's pregame show kicking things off at 6:28.

Final: Mississippi 6 Huntsville 2 The Mississippi Braves took advantage of some sloppy play by the Huntsville Stars to score 4 unearned runs en route to a 6-2 win Wednesday night. Stars starter Andy Moye (1-5) was the victim of the Stars shoddy defense. Moye worked 4 innings allowing 5 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. Moye also hit a batter and the one earned run he allowed was on a 4th inning home run. Of the 83 pitches Moye threw, 42 were for strikes. Mark Williams worked the 5th & 6th innings allowing a hit and striking out 3. Very good night for Williams. Left hander Brian Garman worked the 7th and gave up a run on a home run. Eric Marzec pitched the 8th allowing a hit and a walk but no runs. FIELDING E: Chavez, O (3, fielding), Walker, M (7, fielding), Diaz (3, catcher interference), Davis (4, fielding). If you give a team 4 extra outs, it's usually going to hurt you. Huntsville Box Score The Stars were limited to 2 runs on 8 hits by 3 Braves pitchers. Rene Tosoni, Mike Walker, and Robinzon Diaz each collected 2 hits for the Stars. Diaz had both of the Stars RBI's while Tosoni had the Stars lone extra base hit with his 5th inning double. Brock Kjeldgaard and Nick Shaw had the other hits for the Stars. The Stars did not draw a walk tonight. Team RISP: 2-for-10. Team LOB: 7. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars nightmare 4th inning Mississippi Bottom of the 4th Kyle Russell flies out to left fielder Kentrail Davis. Jose Martinez homers (1) on a fly ball to left field. Final: Huntsville 5 Mississippi 0 Huntsville's Taylor Jungmann turned in his best outing of the season Tuesday night, leading the Stars to a 5-0 win in Pearl, Mississippi. Jungmann (3-4) went 6 strong innings allowing 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 2. Since returning from the disabled list last week, Jungmann has pitched 12 innings and allowed only 1 run. Taylor threw 89 pitches over his 6 innings, 50 for strikes and had a 9-3 ground out to fly out ratio. A real nice night of work for Taylor. Greg Holle came on in the 7th and pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Holle allowed 2 hits and struck out 2. Lefty Thomas Keeling came on to finish the 8th and pitched a clean 9th, picking up a couple strike outs while walking 1. Keeling has now worked 9 straight outings without allowing a run, covering nearly a month. Keeling, who has had control problems throughout his career, has only given up 4 walks over this stretch of scoreless outings. The Stars defense definitely helped out the pitching staff with 4 double plays turned tonight. Huntsville Box Score The Stars knew they were going to be in for a challenge as Braves starter Alex Wood was on a 29 2/3 inning run of scoreless baseball. Huntsville ended that run when they scored a run in the 3rd. First baseman Jason Rogers stayed hot going 2-3 with a walk and scored twice. Over his last 10 games, Rogers is now hitting .371. Second baseman Nick Shaw also had 2 hits and scored a run. Brock Kjeldgaard hit a mammoth 2 run homer in the 8 that was estimated to be over 450 feet. Ozzie Chavez, Robinzon Diaz, and Rene Tosoni had the Stars other hits. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars 1st run which turns out to be the game winning RBI Huntsville Top of the 3rd Taylor Jungmann grounds out, second baseman Tommy La Stella to first baseman Christian Marrero. It would be their 1st series win since the opening series of the season. Righty Andy Moye will be on the bump for Huntsville. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 Central. Don't forget to join Alex Cohen for his pregame show starting at 6:45.

Final: Mississippi 5 Huntsville 1 Another very good start from Ariel Pena goes for naught as Mississippi scored 5 unanswered runs to defeat the Stars 5-1 Monday night. Pena, who pitched his best game as a member of the Brewers organization in his last outing, was strong again tonight. Pena (2-3) went 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. One run scored after Pena left the game. Pena threw 91 pitches, 54 for strikes. These last few outings for Pena have been real impressive. It really seems like he's "found it". Alan Williams came in to relieve Pena in the 5th and allowed an inherited runner to score along with one of his own. Williams's line was 2/3, 1 run on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1. Santo Manzanillo worked the 7th and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. Eric Marzec worked a clean 9th, striking out 1. Huntsville Box Score It looked like the Stars were catching a break when Mississippi Braves starter J.R. Graham left after 2 innings due to injury, but the Braves bullpen worked 7 innings allowing only a run. Catcher Shawn Zarraga and shortstop Ozzie Chavez both had 2 hits for the Stars. First baseman Jason Rogers drove in the Stars lone run on a 6th inning double. Kentrail Davis, Brock Kjeldgaard, and Robinzon Diaz had the other hits for the Stars. Right fielder Rene Tosoni saw his 9 game hitting streak snapped with an 0-4 tonight. Team RISP: 0-for-11. Team LOB: 11. Ouch! Huntsville Play By Play The Stars short lived lead Huntsville Top of the 6th Ozzie Chavez singles on a line drive to center fielder Mycal Jones. Don't forget to join Alex Cohen at 6:45 for the pregame show.

Link Report for Sun. 5/12 - Mothers Day Edition
Minigoon replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Final: Huntsville 2 Mississippi 1 Jimmy Nelson had a big time bounce back game as the Stars defeated the Braves 2-1 in a good pitchers duel Sunday evening. Nelson, who had his 1st bad outing last time out, came out firing tonight. His fastball was consistently 92-95 and touched 96. Nelson (4-2) went 6 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 8 to earn the "W". Early in the game Nelson was being drawn into some long at bats by the Braves hitters. Nelson threw 93 pitches, 54 for strikes and had a 6-2 ground out to fly out ratio. Stars closer Casey Medlen came on in the 7th and pitched 2 scoreless innings. Medlen did not allow a hit but did walk 3. Big Greg Holle worked a clean 9th including a strike out to pick up his 2nd save on the season. For Holle, that was his 4th straight appearance without allowing a run. Huntsville Box Score Offensively, the Stars were held to only 4 hits tonight. Centerfielder Rene Tosoni wasted no time in extending his hitting streak to 9 games by homering in the 2nd. Tosoni added a single in the 9th to account for half the Stars hits. Over those 9 games, Tosoni is 11-33 (.333) with a double, 2 home runs and 9 RBI's. Kentrail Davis tripled to lead off the 6th and scored on a Jason Rogers sacrifice fly. That was Rogers's 28th RBI on the season, 2nd most in the Southern League. Second baseman Nick Shaw added a double for the Stars other hit. Shaw also drew 2 walks. So, while being held to 4 hits, the Stars collectively hit for the cycle. Interesting. Team RISP: 0-for-5. Team LOB: 6. Huntsville Play By Play Rene Tosoni being a 1 man rally. Huntsville Top of the 2nd Mike Walker grounds out to first baseman Christian Marrero. Brock Kjeldgaard called out on strikes. Rene Tosoni homers (2) on a fly ball to right field. Robinzon Diaz pops out to second baseman Tommy La Stella. The Stars winning rally Huntsville Top of the 6th Kentrail Davis triples (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Jose Martinez. Jason Rogers out on a sacrifice fly to right fielder Jose Martinez. Kentrail Davis scores. Mike Walker walks. Brock Kjeldgaard strikes out swinging. Rene Tosoni grounds out, shortstop Barrett Kleinknecht to first baseman Christian Marrero. The Stars and Braves will meet tomorrow night at 7:00 Central for game 2 of this series. Righty Ariel Pena (2-2, 3.48) will look to build on his last stellar outing as he takes the hill for Huntsville. Join Stars radio broadcaster Alex Cohen at 6:45 for his pregame show. -
Final: Jackson 12 Huntsville 8 The Jackson Generals won game 5 and the series with a 12-8 victory Saturday night at The Joe. Stars pitcher Arcenio Leon (0-3) started, but didn't make it out of the 3rd inning. In 2 1/3 innings, Leon allowed 7 runs, 5 earned on only 3 hits. Control was an issue as Leon walked 5 and threw 3 wild pitches. Only 35 of the 71 pitches Leon threw were for strikes. Righty Mark Williams relieved Leon in the 3rd, but didn't fare much better. Williams, coming off 2 straight scoreless outings, worked 2 1/3 innings, allowing 4 runs, all earned, on 5 hits and 4 walks. Eric Marzec finished up the 5th and then worked a scoreless 6. This was the 6 straight game Marzec has not given up a run. Left hander Brian Garman saved the rest of the bullpen by working the last 3 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits, striking out 2, and did not walk a batter. After some early season struggles saw his ERA balloon up to 7.94, Garman has gotten on track and now is sporting an ERA at 3.72. Huntsville Box Score The Stars matched the Generals with 13 hits tonight, but did not draw any walks. This is a bit unusual as the Stars are in the top half of the league in walks drawn. The Stars were led offensively by Jason Rogers who continues to swing a hot bat. Rogers went 2-5, both hits being home runs, including a 1st inning grand slam, and drove in 5. Over his last 7 games, Rogers is hitting .370 with 3 doubles, 3 homers, and 9 RBI's. Nick Shaw, who did not start the game, ended up going 3-5 with a run scored. Ozzie Chavez and Brock Kjeldgaard both had 2 hits. Kjeldgaard's 2 hits were both doubles. Brock is 5-10 with 2 doubles and 2 home runs in his last 3 games. Rene Tosoni extended his hitting streak to 8 with a single in the 3rd. It's also the 10th straight game Tosoni has reached base. Joey Paciorek, Robinzon Diaz, and Kentrail Davis had the Stars other hits. Davis also reached on a hit by pitch and stole his team leading 9th base. Davis appears to be the only threat to steal the Stars have as the rest of the team has 10 stolen bases to Davis's 9. Team RISP: 3-for-14. Team LOB: 8. Too often we've seen this result from the Stars. Shortstop Hector Gomez was removed from the game in the bottom of the 1st inning. Per the broadcast, the reason for Gomez's removal was not disclosed. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars matched their biggest single inning run output for the season in the 1st, and it could have been an even bigger inning. Huntsville Bottom of the 1st Ozzie Chavez singles on a ground ball to center fielder James Jones. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Nick Shaw replaces Hector Gomez. Nick Shaw singles on a fly ball to center fielder James Jones. Ozzie Chavez to 2nd. Kentrail Davis hit by pitch. Ozzie Chavez to 3rd. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Final: Jackson 8 Huntsville 5 The Jackson Generals exploded for 7 runs in the 3rd and hung on to defeat the Huntsville Stars 8-5 Friday night at The Joe. Stars starter Andy Moye (1-4) was a victim of the long ball as all 8 Generals runs scored on homers. Moye allowed a solo home run in the 1st and both a 3 run and a grand slam in the 3rd. For the night, Moye went 5 innings, allowing 8 runs on 9 hits. Moye didn't allow a walk and struck out 5. His fastball was in the 87-92 range tonight. Behind Moye, the Stars bullpen provided 4 innings of scoreless relief. 40 man roster pitcher Santo Manzanillo was very sharp tonight. Manzanillo worked 2 scoreless, hitless innings while striking out 1. Santo was up to 98 on the gun tonight. Thomas Keeling went 1 inning and didn't allow a hit while striking out 2. This is the 8th straight scoreless outing for Keeling. Eric Marzec worked the 9 and allowed 2 hits but did not allow a run thanks to a fine defensive play by Hector Gomez. Huntsville Box Score Offensively, the Stars were led by Hector Gomez, Brock Kjeldgaard, and Rene Tosoni. Gomez went 3-5 with a run scored. Kjeldgaard was 1-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch. Kjeldgaard's hit was an 8th inning home run, his 5th on the season. Tosoni was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Tosoni now has a nice 7 game hitting streak going. Every Stars hitter reached base at least once tonight. This was the 3rd straight game the Stars played where they did not commit an error. There were also 2 very nice plays turned by Hector Gomez. Huntsville Play By Play The Stars had a chance to answer the Generals big inning but missed an opportunity. Bases loaded, no outs, they only plate 1. Final: Huntsville 6 Jackson 2 The Huntsville Stars got to Jackson Generals pitcher Taijuan Walker early en route to a 6-2 win Thursday night at The Joe. The Stars got big time pitching performances from Taylor Jungmann (2-4) and Alan Williams. Jungmann, activated from the disabled list prior to the game tonight, worked 6 strong innings tonight. The Brewers # 2 prospect allowed a run on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Taylor threw 80 pitches, 50 for strikes. He was working consistently in the low 90's. For tonight at least, the time on the disabled list seemed to really help Jungmann out. After starting in his last 3 appearances, lefty Alan Williams was back working out of the bullpen tonight. He worked 3 innings picking up the save, his 1st of the season. Williams allowed a run on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6, including the last 5 batters he faced. Williams, a former Washington Wild Thing, as quietly put together a nice resume since being signed out of the independent Frontier League in 2011. Huntsville Box Score Despite being last in the Southern League in home runs coming into the game, the Stars blasted 3 tonight. Jason Rogers, Brock Kjeldgaard, and Rene Tosoni all went deep for Huntsville. Rogers finished the night going 2-4, with a double to go along with his homer, and drove in 3. Kjeldgaard was 2-3 with a walk and scored twice. Tosoni now has a 6 game hitting streak and has reached base in his last 8. Ozzie Chavez also collected 2 hits tonight. Mike Walker and Kentrail Davis picked up the other Stars hits. Brock Kjeldgaard recorded an outfield assist tonight. This marked the 4th game in a row the Stars have recorded an outfield assist. Over those 4 games, Huntsville has a total of 5 outfield assists, 3 of them by Kjeldgaard. He did start his professional career as a pitcher so the arm is strong and fairly accurate. Final: Huntsville 1 Jackson 0 The Stars and Generals engaged in a pitchers dual Wednesday night with the Stars coming out on top 1-0. The story of the night was the performance of Ariel Pena. The big righty had his best performance with the Brewers organization. Pena (2-2) worked 6+ innings, allowing only 4 hits. Walks, which have been a season long problem for Ariel, were not an issue this game as Pena only walked 2. 54 of 87 pitches were for strikes tonight. Pena set the season high for Huntsville pitchers by striking out 10. Pena was on the attack all game, getting ahead of hitters. His fastball was consistently 92-95 tonight. Greg Holle came on in relief of Pena with 2 runners on and no outs in the top of the 7th and worked out of that jam and then proceeded to work a scoreless 8th as well. Holle recorded 3 strike outs over his 2 innings or work. This was Holle's 3rd straight strong outing out of the bullpen for the Stars. Closer Casey Medlen came on to work the 9th. Medlen allowed a hit and hit a batter before recording the final out for his 5th save on the season. Medlen ended up striking out the side in closing out the Stars first shutout of the season. The Stars pitchers combined to strike out 16 while only walking 2. Huntsville Box Score Huntsville was held to 1 run on 4 hits. First baseman Jason Rogers was the only Stars batter with more than 1 hit. Rogers doubled twice and also reached base on a hit by pitch. Catcher Shawn Zarraga and centerfielder Rene Tosoni had the other hits. Zarraga scored the Stars lone run in the 3rd on a wild pitch. The Stars drew 3 walks tonight, one each for Zarraga, Brock Kjeldgaard, and Mike Walker. The Stars will have their work cut of for them as they will be facing top prospect Taijuan Walker (3-2, 1.54 ERA). Huntsville is expected to activate their own top prospect Taylor Jungmann (1-4, 7.89 ERA) from the disabled list to start for them. Game time is scheduled for 6:43 Central with Alex Cohen's pregame show starting at 6:30.

Final: Jackson 8 Huntsville 3 The Jackson Generals scored early and often and cruised to a 8-3 victory Tuesday night at The Joe. Starter Jimmy Nelson (3-2) had his shortest outing of the season lasting only 3 innings. Jackson got to Nelson for 6 runs, 4 earned on 10 hits. Nelson didn't walk anyone and struck out 2. The damage could have been worse if not for a couple outfield assists to get runners at 3rd. While Nelson had a bad night, Mark Williams had his best performance at the AA level. Williams pitched 1 inning striking out 2. The big story out of the game tonight was Mark Rogers. Rogers lasted only 9 pitches. 8 pitches were balls and the one strike he threw was hit for a long home run. Rogers was removed with what appeared to be a arm issue. He left with the trainer. Alex described Rogers as shaking out his hand/forearm. No further update was provided during the game and we'll probably have to wait for something from the beat reporters. Brian Garman, Thomas Keeling, and Eric Marzec combined for 5 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Garman pitched 3 innings, giving up 3 hits and a walk while striking out 5. Coming into the game tonight, Garman had only struck out 6 for the season, over 13 1/3 innings. Real strong effort and great bullpen saving outing for Garman tonight. Keeling pitched a clean 8th inning. This was the 7th straight outing for Keeling where he didn't allow a run. Marzec pitched the ninth, allowing a walk and striking out 1. Huntsville Box Score Offensively, the Stars were held to 3 runs on 8 hits. Catcher Robinzon Diaz led the Stars with 3 hits including a double and home run. 3rd baseman Shea Vucinich added 2 hits including a solo home run. Rene Tosoni added an RBI double and Joey Paciorek and Nick Shaw each had a single. Kentrail Davis drew 2 walks tonight, giving him 22 in 31 games. In 122 games last season, Davis had 54 walks. Nice to see this part of his game improve. Team RISP: 2-for-10. Team LOB: 8. The story of lack of clutch hits and runners left on base continued. Huntsville Play By Play As has been the case way too often this year, the Stars fall behind early Jackson Top of the 1st Leon Landry reaches on a fielding error by second baseman Nick Shaw. Brad Miller doubles (5) on a fly ball to center fielder Rene Tosoni. Leon Landry scores. James Jones grounds out, second baseman Nick Shaw to first baseman Jason Rogers. Brad Miller to 3rd. From the broadcast, Alex described it as Rogers was "reluctantly" leaving the game. Was shaking out his right hand/forearm. Did not appear to be shoulder or elbow from the way it was described. We'll have to watch for a report from one of the beat writers around the team as I don't think the Stars will be releasing anything on this. -

Stars Split Doubleheader, Lose Series to BayBears By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars To cap off a stretch where they played 28 innings of baseball in 25 hours, the Huntsville Stars split a doubleheader with the Mobile BayBears, the last game being the rubbermatch between the two teams at Hank Aaron Stadium on Sunday. In game one, the Stars got off to a rare quick start off of BayBears starting pitcher Anthony Meo. After allowing the first three batters of the game to reach base, Meo gave up a sacrifice fly to Stars first basemen Jason Rogers to give Huntsville the first run of the ballgame. Later in the inning, a two-run single from centerfielder Rene Tosoni made the score 3-0. Those three runs were plenty for the Stars pitchers, especially starting pitcher Arcenio Leon. Besides giving up a solo homer to BayBears center fielder Ender Inciarte in the third inning, the 26-year-old righty pitched very well in his first start since being placed on the disabled list on April 20th. The former Astros farmhand threw four innings of one-run baseball, giving up just three hits in the process. Since Leon did not pitch long enough to qualify for a win as a starting, Stars reliever R.J Seidel improved to 1-0 on the year after giving up a run in an inning of relief. The Stars got their insurance run in the fifth inning on a RBI single from right fielder Kentrail Davis. Stars closer Casey Medlen shut down the BayBears in order in the seventh inning to notch his fourth save of the season. In game two, the BayBears returned the Stars favor from the previous contest and provided an early surge in the first inning off of Stars starter Alan Williams. After Williams walked Inciarte and gave up a single to second baseman Mike Freeman, a sacrifice fly by third baseman Nick Evans gave Mobile their first run. Williams then surrendered a two-run homer to BayBears first basemen Jon Griffin to give Mobile a 3-0 lead. However, that deficit was washed away by the Stars offense almost immediately. Following RBI singles by both Tosoni and second basemen Ozzie Chavez cut the BayBears lead to one in the second, a RBI groundout from Stars third baseman Mike Walker in the top of the third knotted the game up at three apiece. The game remained that way all the way up to the 10th inning, where the BayBears ultimately clinched a doubleheader split and a series victory. With Stars reliever Santo Manzanillo on the hill, catcher Raywilly Gomez drew a four-pitch walk to begin the inning. During the next at-bat, two wild pitches from Manzanillo allowed Gomez to advance to third. Two batters later, Freeman launched a line-drive well over the head of Tosoni in left-center field to win the game for Mobile. The split in the doubleheader clinched the Stars fifth straight series loss. After an off day on Monday, the Stars will welcome the Jackson Generals to town to open up a five-game series at Joe Davis Stadium on Tuesday. Huntsville will send RHP Jimmy Nelson (3-1, 1.91 ERA) to the bump to square off against Jackson LHP Ronenis Elias (1-2, 2.93 ERA). First pitch is at 6:43 PM.

Final: Mobile 4 Huntsville 3 (Game 2 - 10 innings) Game 2 saw Mobile jump out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. Unlike game 1, Huntsville was able to fight back and tie the game at 3. The game stayed tied until the bottom of the 10th when the Bay Bears were able to push the winning run across the plate to split the double header and win the series. Starter Alan Williams settled down after the rough 1st inning and was able to work 5 innings today. He allowed the 3 runs on 4 hits and 1 run, but only allowed 2 hits after the first inning. Williams struck out 2. The Stars bullpen was able to pitch 4 scoreless innings before giving up the winning run in the 10th. Thomas Keeling worked 2/3 of an inning, allowing a walk and striking out 1. Mark Williams was next in, working 1 1/3 innings and giving up 2 walks. Brian Garman worked the 8th and 9th innings today. He also walked 2 while striking out 1. Santo Manzanillo (1-1) was brought in to work the 10th. Manzanillo was a victim of control. After walking the leadoff hitter Raywilly Gomez, he uncorked 2 wild pitches to allow Gomez to get to 3rd. Manzanillo recorded a strike out before giving up a single, driving in the winning run. The Stars pitchers held the Bay Bears to only 5 hits over 9 1/3 innings, but did walk 7. Huntsville Box Score The Stars pounded out 8 hits and drew 9 walks but were only able to score 3 runs in game 2. Jason Rogers, Brock Kjeldgaard, and Rene Tosoni each had 2 hits. OK, Huntsville/Mobile game has been suspended. Tomorrow at 5:05 the resumption of tonight's suspended game. I believe this will be a 7 inning game, as that was what was scheduled. Then the two teams will play a 7 inning game. Sunday will be a double header, two 7 inning games, starting at 12:05. If my math is right, that should be 25 1/2 innings in about 24 hours.

Final: Mobile 3 Huntsville 1 (Completed after 5 1/2 innings) In a battle of top pitching prospects, Archie Bradley and the Mobile Bay Bears got the better Jimmy Nelson and the Huntsville Stars (9-17) Thursday Night. Bradley, making his AA debut, held the Stars to 1 run on 4 hits. Stars starter Jimmy Nelson pitched strong again, but took his 1st loss of the season. In 5 1/3 innings, Nelson gave up 3 earned runs on 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. It was the 1st time all year he allowed more than 2 earned runs in a game and also surrendered his 1st home run. This was also the 1st time the Stars lost a game that Nelson started. Nelson put the Stars in a position to win, as he has done all season. With all the rain that Mobile has had along with the rain that was falling during the game, it was impressive what Nelson was able to do tonight. Despite the poor weather and field conditions, the Stars did not commit an error. Huntsville Box Score The Stars were held to 1 run on 4 hits tonight. They scored their run in the 2nd inning on back-to-back, 2 out doubles by Rene Tosoni and Robinzon Diaz. Kentrail Davis had a nice homecoming game.
