So the thing on that play is, it's 4th and 3. It's not like a 4th and 12 where a simple 5 yard penalty just gives them 4th down and closer. So there are a whole host of things that can go wrong on 4th and less than 5 by being aggressive -- jumping offsides, running into the kicker, etc...or what happened. Any of which are going to result in a first down and probably kill the game. As you say, it's really a good outcome on this play to allow the FG, and the odds of something good coming out of being aggressive are too remote and the payoff too low to outweigh the possible risks. Of course, I don't really expect Walker to be thinking all this in the moment, he's not thinking anything other than he wants to go hard and make a play for his team. But I do expect his coaching staff to remind the 11 guys out there of what the situation is and advise them to play it safe and take the 3. And so once again, it's on the coaching staff.

I get it. But a lot of the 43 carries was game script dependent. Where we knew what was coming. It's still not good enough. I'm not saying it was the worst rush defense performance in history.

Please be assured I'm not saying Walker wasn't good tonight. He was very good. But his bad play was *really* bad. It was essentially the play that killed the comeback momentum.

That's why he needs his coaches to address what's in his mind before he acts on it and remind him that his offense is about to get the ball back with a chance to win it with 2 scores if he doesn't do anything stupid.

How often do you see a 30 yard FG blocked? They didn't need a game changing play. They needed to get the ball back down 13 with 8 minutes left. You're far more likely to make a game changing play the other way. The Lions got the game changing play. Your actions have to be appropriate for the situation. There's a time and a place for aggression, there's a time and place to be passive. That was not a time to be aggressive. You're down 6 and they're kicking the FG with a minute left, then by all means be aggressive. Not here.

So just don't do anything. You're about to get the ball back down 13 with a chance to win with 2 TD. Don't even put yourself in a position where you'll do anything stupid. Any penalty there, offsides, etc, is a first. Know the damn situation, it's a chip shot, they're making it. Just sit back and let them have it.

Another special teams penalty and this one was the dagger. Why in God's name would you do anything on that FG other than sit back and be grateful they were only kicking the FG?

Not sure why Detroit is even taking the deep drop for the big sack like that. They keep running the ball and wearing us down and we're probably not stopping it.

Can't take yourself out of a drive before it starts with a terrible first down play like that. All on MLF.
