  1. In Boston, they call it the Fenway Flu. What should we call the Milwaukee version? The Miller Malaise?
  2. Josh Butler had his option voided because of his pre-existing elbow injury and was placed on the (Major League) DL instead; Major League forum thread.
  3. Butler's option was voided because of his injury (think Mat Gamel's situation), and he was instead placed on the DL, where like Gamel he'll accrue service time.
  4. And Keith Law makes three. EDIT: Plus RyDogg from the other thread. That joke really wrote itself, apparently.
  5. Wisconsin roughed up Kannapolis, 9-2. The Timber Rattlers used an extra-base hit barrage to sink the Intimidators. Chris Dennis and Brent Dean slugged home runs, while Khris Davis, Joey Paciorek, and Franklin Romero legged out triples, with Romero doing so twice. Nick Bucci got the start and gave up two runs over five innings. Del Howell was strong in relief, pitching four innings and making them scoreless. *** Someone tell Nick that chicks dig the punchouts. 6. Brevard County came out on the wrong side of a 15-2 game against Winston-Salem. Sergio Miranda was the lone bright spot for the Manatees, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles. Cody Scarpetta, Corey Frerichs, and Brandon Rapoza took the brunt of the damage on the pitching side. *** Scarpetta got roughed up, but 5/1 K/BB in 5 innings is fine with me. Idle thought: Brock Kjeldgaard's not going to have a very good year in Space Coast Stadium, is he? 7. Birmingham doubled up Huntsville, 6-3. Steffan Wilson and Brett Lawrie collected two hits each. Amaury Rivas pitched the first 3.1 innings and gave up three runs on three hits and two walks. Mike McClendon, Nick Green, and Tim Dillard each pitched scoreless frames. *** Good to see Lawrie back. Looks like Rivas got a little unlucky. 8. Nashville outlasted Charlotte, 11-6. Brendan Katin turned in a superb performance, clubbing two doubles and a home run, driving in five runs. JR Hopf add three hits of his own, Johnny Raburn scored thrice, and Lorenzo Cain drove in two and scored twice. Kameron Loe got the start and went four scoreless. Chris Waters was touched up for five runs in four innings of relief. *** Nice outing from John Axford, and farewell to Shane Justis--this is the last time we'll see his name in a box score. 9. Haudricourt: "RHP Jeff Suppan will throw 90-pitch simulated game this morning to test neck stiffness that's plagued him throughout camp."
  10. I'm surprised that Gallardo is basically doubling up Garza, though Garza did spend some time on the DL with an arm problem a couple years ago, I think.
  11. That's another one that you can count on just being a spring thing.
  12. According to the Huntsville Times, Sergio Miranda will be the Stars' shortstop.
  13. Cruz was a waiver-wire pickup this offseason, pretty much just because of his gloveliness and the fact that someone had to play shortstop for Nashville. Here's the thread from when he was claimed.
  14. Haudricourt: Luis Cruz optioned to Nashville; thread on the Major League forum if you have an opinion on the move other than "Oh."
  15. As expected.
  16. Jonathan Lucroy was returned to minor league camp[/url] and will be sent to Huntsville to start the season; Melvin: "I told him he could be called up to the big leagues from Double-A." EDIT: Lucroy, of course, isn't on the 40-man and thus doesn't need to be optioned. Duh.
  17. Law also talks about D'Vontrey Richardson, Khris Davis, and Kentrail Davis. Quotes:
  18. I thought this article from 7/22/99 -- "Brewers baseball academy cultivating promising young players" -- would be a fun trip down memory lane, though it's actually from before my time as a prospect watcher.
  19. Turns out Logan Schafer's groin is worse than thought: "An MRI on the strained groin of center field prospect Logan Schafer revealed a possible slight tear. He will remain inactive in the minor-league camp with no chance of opening the season at Class AA Huntsville, as originally planned."
  20. Plus Corey Kemp. Next: Michael Marseco gets lost in the infield grass.
  21. Haudricourt reports that 3B Edgar Trejo was traded to Seattle for a PTBNL or cash.
  22. Reading the rest of his quotes -- "I'm not out of shape; I'm not injured. I had something happen off the field that I couldn't control. There should be a job out there for me somewhere." -- it sounds like he's saying that his poor performance last year was because of the death of his wife and that he's still the same somewhat-effective LOOGY-licious pitcher he's always been. Maybe he is, but as has been said, the Brewers already have a few newer and better models. Anyway, I don't think he's making an argument that he's being discriminated against because of his wife's death.
  23. The assignments mostly look plausible, though Chad Stang and Max Walla at Huntsville jump out at you.
