Uh oh. Mark Rogers was placed on the DL today following his rough start last night. Small solace, but Michael Fiers was activated to fill the spot. Discuss here.

Final: @Billings 1, Helena 0Helena box score The Brewers allowed just one hit--the Mustangs' walk-off single. Ouch. Evan Frederickson was simply dominant, going six scoreless, hitless innings, fanning twelve and walking two, with one wild pitch. Yes, it's just the Pioneer League, but hey, it's worlds better than the usual six walks and four wild pitches. Seth Lintz relieved and took the eventual loss. Helena had six baserunners: three singles, a double, and two walks. Gerald Ogrinc was the only Brewer on more than once. Helena play-by-play Heartbreak: Billings Bottom 9th Dayne Read walks. Devin Lohman out on a sacrifice bunt, third baseman Gregory Hopkins to first baseman Cody Hawn. Dayne Read to 2nd. Danny Hernandez singles on a line drive to right fielder John Dishon. Dayne Read scores.

Final: Carolina 10, @Huntsville 9Huntsville box score The Stars drop a heartbreaker. They were down 8-1 in the 6th but posted a huge seven-run inning, highlighted by Taylor Green's grand slam, to tie things up. Then, after Jim Henderson allows two runs in the top of the 10th, they rally again to get one in the bottom but come up just short. Amaury Rivas started and, despite shutting out Carolina through three innings, allowed eight runs over the next two-plus, though only four were earned. He struck out eight and walked two, so perhaps he just got unlucky on balls in play. Jeremy Jeffress turned in a fine outing, two scoreless innings with just a hit allowed and three strikeouts; 22 of his 34 pitches were strikes. Green's grand slam was his only hit, but talk about making it count. Batting second, Brett Lawrie had two doubles, and Lee Haydel, taking over the leadoff spot, was on three times with two singles and a walk. Zelous Wheeler also had two hits, and Drew Anderson drew three walks. Huntsville play-by-play The big inning: Huntsville Bottom 6th Patrick Arlis singles on a line drive to left fielder Brandon Yarbrough. Lee Haydel walks. Patrick Arlis to 2nd. Final: @Huntsville 10, Carolina 2Huntsville box score So, I guess Mark Rogers likes having all of his pitches at his disposal: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K, 1 WP, 5/2 GO/AO, 99 pitches, 66 strikes. That strikes-to-balls ratio is particularly solid from Rogers, and of course the strikeouts are lovely. The Stars scored three in the 1st inning and never looked back, blowing open a 4-2 game with six runs in the 7th & 8th. Milwaukee native Chris Nowak doubled and homered, and Drew Anderson doubled twice as part of his three hits. Zelous Wheeler had two hits but committed two errors. Caleb Gindl was on three times on the strength of a single and two walks before being pinch-run for in the 8th. Brett Lawrie was 1-4 with a double and a walk. Huntsville play-by-play The offense is nice, but we're going to instead highlight Rogers' entire outing: Carolina Top 1st Kris Negron strikes out swinging. Jake Kahaulelio strikes out swinging. Dave Sappelt flies out to right fielder Drew T. Anderson. Carolina Top 2nd Devin Mesoraco reaches on fielding error by shortstop Zelous Wheeler. Sean Henry strikes out swinging. Final: @Wisconsin 4, Peoria 2Maverick & Rattlers shoot down Peoria Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers rebounded against a season-long nemesis and it was Maverick Lasker who led the way. Lasker pitched seven solid inning and was backed up with offense from Kentrail Davis and Chris Dennis in a 5-1 victory over the Peoria Chiefs Tuesday night at Time Warner Cable Field. Peoria had been 8-1 against the Rattlers in the first nine meetings of the season between the teams. Davis put the Rattlers (43-62 overall, 17-20 second half) in front in the bottom of the first inning. His sacrifice fly to left field sent Scooter Gennett home from third base for a 1-0 lead. Peoria (55-49, 17-19) tied the game on an unearned run in the top of the third inning. Jae-Hoon Ha singled, stole second, stole third, and scored when the throw to third was misplayed. But, the Rattlers answered right away in the bottom of the third inning. Erik Miller walked to start the inning. One out later, Gennett singled and Hunter Morris walked to load the bases. Davis knocked in Miller with another sacrifice fly. Dennis followed with a two-run double to put the Rattlers up 4-1. Lasker took over the game from there. The right-hander allowed a total of three hits and struck out three as he picked up his team-leading seventh win of the season. Left fielder Khris Davis helped Lasker keep the Chiefs from mounting any type of rally on the evening. He made three outstanding catches to rob Peoria hitters of extra bases. Dennis added an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to give him 64 RBI for the season and cap the scoring for the night. Matt Costello worked two scoreless innings and picked up his first save for the Timber Rattlers. Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon. Hiram Burgos (2-5, 4.50) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Frank Batista (2-2, 3.38) is set to start for Peoria. It is an American TV Win-It Wednesday. Every fan aged 16 and older will receive a scratch-off ticket. Every ticket is a winner with prizes from the Timber Rattlers and American TV of Appleton. Game time is 12:05pm. If you can’t make it out to the game, you can tune into the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 11:45am. Wisconsin box score Deuces were wild for the T-Rats: Kentrail Davis had two singles and two sac flies, Dennis had two doubles, and Morris, Gennett, and Cameron Garfield all also had two hits. Cutter Dykstra went 0-4 as the leadoff hitter with D'Vontrey Richardson getting the night off. Lasker walked only one. Wisconsin play-by-play Gennett started at shortstop and made an error on his first chance there. -

Final: @Nashville 4, Round Rock 2Sounds take 4-2 finale from Express Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds derailed the Round Rock Express, 4-2, on Tuesday night at historic Greer Stadium in the finale of a four-game set. Luis Cruz recorded his team-leading ninth three-hit game of the season in the win, while Mat Gamel and Adam Stern each added two hits. Winners of the last three games and six of the last seven contests against Round Rock, Nashville's (59-51) victory tonight knotted the season series, 8-8. The Sounds scored first for 68th time this season, as second baseman Eric Farris smacked a double down the first base line and scored as Gamel hit a bloop single to centerfield. The RBI was Gamel's 22nd RBI in the last 16 games. Nashville plated another run in the next inning as Cruz and Stern hit consecutive single to open the frame. Cruz advanced to third on a wild pitch from Express starter Yorman Bazardo and came home for a 2-0 lead on an infield groundout from Ben Johnson. The Express put a run on the board in the top of third inning as Sounds starter Josh Butler gave up a walk to the pitcher to begin the frame, followed by single by Jack Shuck. Later in the inning with two outs, Butler threw a wild pitch that allowed Bazardo to score from third for a 2-1 lead. Round Rock knotted the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth. Shuck walked and then came home on two straight singles from Brian Bogusevic and Drew Locke. Nashville went back ahead at 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gamel led off the inning with a 13-pitch at-bat that culminated with a walk after fouling off seven two-strike pitches. Cruz's third hit of the game advanced Gamel to second base, with both runners advancing to scoring position on a wild pitch from Bazardo. With two outs in the inning, Stern knocked home both runners with a weak single to centerfield. In his second start of the season, Bazardo (2-4) gave up four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. In his second quality start in his third Triple-A outing, Butler (2-1) earned the win, giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in six innings thrown. Nashville held the opposition to two runs or less for 16th time this season, while the bullpen added three scoreless innings behind Butler. Donovan Hand tossed one scoreless frame in relief for his sixth consecutive outing without allowing a run. Mitch Stetter's shutout frame tied him with Rich Sauveur for 160 career appearances in Sounds history. Round Rock rallied to load the bases with two outs in the ninth frame, but closer Chris Smith struck out Wladimir Sutil to end the game and pick up his 21st save of the season to tie him with Las Vegas' Jeremy Accardo for the PCL lead. The Sounds will travel west to begin an eight-game road trip, beginning at 9:05 pm CT against the Reno Aces at Aces Ballpark in Reno for the opener of a four-game series. Left-hander Chuck Lofgren (7-5, 5.02) will make the start for Nashville against veteran Reno right-hander Kris Benson (1-2, 9.78). Nashville box score Pretty nice game from Butler, and he did a good job of keeping the ball on the ground: 10/3 GO/AO. 62 of his 100 pitches were strikes. Not sure if the recap is saying the Stetter tied the Sounds' record for career appearances, but that's what it sounds (ha) like. I doubt Mitch is particularly happy about that achievement, whether it's a record or not. Another good line from Gamel; you can listen to his RBI single here. Cruz's bat, such as it is, has been a modest surprise. Nashville play-by-play -

Final: Jupiter 7, @Brevard County 6Brevard County box score Kyle Heckathorn allowed three runs in the 1st inning but settled down thereafter, working the next four innings without incident. He uncharacteristically walked four and continues to be contact-oriented, striking out just one but getting 10 ground outs against three fly outs. BC took the lead back with four runs in the 3rd, but Jupiter matched that with a grand slam in the 6th against Trey Watten to retake the lead. The Manatees got two back in the bottom of the 7th but couldn't come all the way back. Angel Salome led the 'Tees with three hits, and Josh Prince was also on three times on the strength of two singles and a walk. Sergio Miranda and Brock Kjeldgaard each had two hits, and Erik Komatsu singled and walked. Brevard County play-by-play Heckathorn's trying start: Jupiter Top 1st Kevin Mattison flies out to center fielder Erik Komatsu. Javier Guzman singles on a ground ball to right fielder Scott Krieger. Final: @Huntsville 5, Carolina 3 Huntsville box score The Stars got one in the 7th and two in the 8th to erase a 3-0 deficit, and then Taylor Green clouted a walk-off two-run shot in the 13th that just barely cleared the outfield wall to finally end the game. Green finished 1-4 with two walks, and Drew Anderson also homered for the Stars. Chris Nowak and Zelous Wheeler were both on base three times. Brett Lawrie and Caleb Gindl had tough nights atop the order, both 0-6; Lawrie also committed his 12th error. Michael Bowman turned in a quality start--seven innings, three runs--but the real hero tonight is the Stars' bullpen. Jim Henderson, Robert Hinton, and Lucas Luetge: take a bow. Huntsville play-by-play Hinton got a huge strikeout here: Carolina Top 10th Kris Negron singles on a line drive to center fielder Caleb Gindl. With Jake Kahaulelio batting, Kris Negron steals (29) 2nd base. Jake Kahaulelio out on a sacrifice bunt, catcher Anderson De La Rosa to second baseman Brett Lawrie. Kris Negron to 3rd. Brandon Yarbrough called out on strikes. Coaching visit to mound. Luis Terrero grounds out, pitcher Robert Hinton to first baseman Chris Nowak. Luetge worked out of a big jam the next inning: Carolina Top 11th Pitcher Change: Lucas Luetge replaces Robert Hinton, batting 9th. Mike Costanzo strikes out swinging. Chris Denove singles on a ground ball to center fielder Caleb Gindl, deflected by shortstop Zelous Wheeler. Eric Eymann to 3rd. Coaching visit to mound. Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Devin Mesoraco replaces Jeremy Horst. Devin Mesoraco walks. Chris Denove to 2nd. Kris Negron grounds out, third baseman Taylor Green to first baseman Chris Nowak. The end was a long time coming, but when it did it was short and sweet: Huntsville Bottom 13th Chris Nowak singles on a line drive to third baseman Mike Costanzo. Taylor Green homers (9) on a fly ball to right field. Chris Nowak scores.

Final: Clinton 5, @Wisconsin 0Clinton keeps Wisconsin off the board; takes series Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Clinton LumberKings received seven shutout innings from Tom Wilhelmsen to beat the Rattlers 5-0 Monday night at Time Warner Cable Field. Monday was the second time in the three game series in the Fox Cities in which the LumberKings shutout the Timber Rattlers. Clinton (54-50 overall, 17-18 second half) grabbed the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Vinnie Catricala doubled to start the inning. A grounder to the right side of the infield moved him to third. An RBI grounder by Kalian Sams knocked in Catricala. Matt Cerione followed with a home run to the Timber Rattlers bullpen in right-center. In the fourth inning, Sams reached first base on a two-out error. A walk to Cerione extended the inning to Garbriel Noriega, who drove in Sams with a single for a 3-0 lead. The LumberKings added a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Tim Morris. Rattlers starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi went seven innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits. He walked two, struck out two, and took the loss. The decision ended a personal five game winning streak for Odorizzi. Wisconsin (42-62, 16-20) didn’t get their first hit off Wilhelmsen until a bunt single by Cutter Dykstra in the fifth inning. Kentrail Davis tripled with one out in the seventh inning, but neither scored against the former Milwaukee farmhand. Wilhelmsen, a 2002 draft pick of the Brewers, tossed seven innings, walked one, and struck out five for his first Midwest League win since 2003 when he was a member of the Beloit Snappers. Clinton added a final run in the eighth inning on an RBI double by Mario Martinez. Wisconsin continues their homestand on Tuesday night against the Peoria Chiefs. Maverick Lasker (6-4, 3.52) is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Ryan Searle (5-5, 4.29) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 7:05pm. As of Monday evening, there were less than 500 general admission grass seat tickets remaining for the game. Fans should call (920) 733-4152, 800-WI-TIMBER, or stop by the Time Warner Cable Field ticket office early tomorrow if they want to purchase a ticket to the game. Tuesday night is a WAPL Bang for Your Buck Night with soda, hotdogs, and Miller Beer available for $1. Tuesday is also Fox Communities Credit Union Night. The first 5,000 fans to enter Time Warner Cable Field will receive an envelope from FCCU with a chance to win cash! If you can’t make it to the game, you may tune into the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm. Wisconsin box score You win this one, Mr. Wilhelmsen. Seriously though, it's hard not to he happy for the guy. Odorizzi didn't have his best stuff, but he gutted out a respectable performance, which perversely kind of makes me like him even more than if he'd had another ho-hum dominant outing. He allowed a lot of hard-hit fly balls, including three doubles and a homer; he also hit a batter. The Rattlers had only two baserunners beyond the aforementioned two hits: a walk by Dykstra and a single by Cameron Garfield. Wisconsin play-by-play Odorizzi impressed me this inning: Clinton Top 7th Nick Franklin flies out to left fielder Chris Dennis. James Jones walks. With Blake Ochoa batting, James Jones steals (18) 2nd base. Blake Ochoa grounds out, third baseman Cutter Dykstra to first baseman Hunter Morris. James Jones to 3rd. Tim Morris grounds out, second baseman Ryan Gennett to first baseman Hunter Morris. He walked Jones, the #2 hitter, on four pitches, a bad omen with the heart of the order coming up and his stuff off--but he made it through and kept his line respectable.

Final: @Nashville 5, Round Rock 1Narron leads Sounds to 2nd straight win Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Left-hander Sam Narron tossed seven scoreless frames and catcher Martin Maldonado homered as part of a 3-for-4 night to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 5-1 victory over the Round Rock Express on Monday evening at historic Greer Stadium. Narron (7-4) pulled into a tie for the Sounds' team lead as he earned his seventh victory of the year. The left-hander tossed his seventh quality start in 10 starts for Nashville, holding Round Rock to two hits over seven scoreless innings of work. Hot-hitting second baseman Eric Farris put the Sounds on the board in the bottom of the third with a two-out RBI single to center off Round Rock starter Shane Loux. Maldonado, who led off the frame with a single, scored the game's first run on the play. Farris has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 contests at a .391 clip (27-for-69). Maldonado has recorded a knock in 17 of his last 18 games (21-for-64, .328). Maldonado doubled the Nashville lead to 2-0 in the fifth with a solo homer to left-center that careened off the guitar-shaped scoreboard. The blast, off Loux, was the backstop's fourth roundtripper of the year. Narron opened the contest with four hitless frames and faced one over the minimum through five before running into a jam in the top of the sixth inning. Round Rock loaded the bases with one out on a Loux single, a Farris fielding error on a Jack Shuck grounder, and a walk to Wladmir Sutil before the Sounds lefty escaped the jam unscathed by inducing an inning-ending double play grounder from Matt Kata. Express catcher Brian Esposito put the visitors on the board in the top of the eighth when he belted a line-drive homer to left off Sounds reliever David Johnson, his second longball of the year. Johnson worked out of further trouble in the frame after Round Rock placed the potential tying run at second with only one out. The Sounds plated three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to stretch the lead to 5-1. Mat Gamel reached on a fielding error by Round Rock reliever Jonah Bayliss and Joe Koshansky was hit by a pitch before shortstop Luis Cruz plated both with a two-run double into the left field corner. Adam Stern followed with an RBI triple to right. Carlos Villanueva made his second relief appearance for Nashville and worked around a pair of baserunners to post a scoreless ninth inning in closing out the victory. Loux (2-11) was tagged with his PCL-leading 11th loss of the year for the Express despite a quality start effort. The right-hander allowed two runs on nine hits over seven innings of action. The teams wrap up the series with a 7:05 p.m. finale on Tuesday evening at Greer. Right-hander Josh Butler (1-1, 7.59) will make his third Triple-A start of the year as he takes the hill for Nashville. Round Rock has yet to announce its starting pitcher for the contest. Nashville box score Stay hot, Martin! Cruz doubled twice, and Stern singled to complement his triple. Gamel was 0-4, and Lorenzo Cain was 1-4.
