Up close I don't like the ball/glove logo changes (outside of the "anatomically correct" seams), but on a cap as part of the uniform, the changes aren't terribly noticeable. Still wish they'd left it as-was, but it's alright. The uniforms mostly were more decent than I'd expected. I like the home cream, and for once the road gray is reasonably interesting. The pinstripe one is pretty good, too. All in all, pretty classy. The navy alternates have been by far my favorite in any uniform set since navy first became a team color in Jan. '94. . . . These new ones? Ugh. I think they're terrible. The "industrial cursive" script is awful and the yellow piping makes it all the worse. The return to the yellow front panel on the cap should've stayed in the past, too. I'd prefer Nike's swoosh be on the sleeve like all previous uniform manufacturer's name or logo has been, but it's not a complete abomination to me. I mourn the loss of (most of) what was just retired, but at least most of the uniform kit is pretty good. Ugh, those navy jerseys...

Sensing what's coming tonight, I'm both very intrigued . . . and full of incredibly low expectations. More than anything I expect to be disappointed because the look I love most likely will be gone. For all who end up excited about the new look, having been in your shoes in the past, I know the feeling and I appreciate the excitement that comes with it. I'd have similar feelings of excitement if they were pretty much leaving things as-is OR doing one or more of the following: - ditching the Friday retro uni's for a different alternate look or - removing all yellow in favor of the current gold in the BiG alternates. Having "Milwaukee" instead of "Brewers" on road grays is immaterial to me, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to that happening.

The Royals' powder blues "back in the day" weren't quite the same blue used in the pic here. There's a little more depth to their current version. Back in the '70s SO many teams had the powder blues and in most cases they were lousy (I count 11: Braves, Phillies, Cardinals, Expos, Brewers, Royals, Rangers, Mariners, Cubs, Twins, Blue Jays). I was so sick of the Brewers' powder blues and forever thought they were just awful that I was thrilled when then went to road greys around '85 and then to the button-down jerseys in the 1990 season. To me what makes the current Royals' and Rays' powder blues at least tolerable is a solid-color outline of the white lettering (royal & navy, respectively) that helps make it look clean. Similar-color numbers or lettering on royal jerseys is almost as bad as the Marlins' black-numbers/black-jersey look now -- nothing beats that for awful! All that said, the idea of cream alternates is more intriguing than the powder blue (which I've never wanted them to return to -- esp. not in any form that mirrors the ugly road uniforms of the '70s & early '80s) . . . though as with anything, of course, that's also dependent on how the look is executed.

The Brewers made a pretty huge advance deal about unveiling the new uniforms & logos at Brewers Fest in 1994. There's been some degree of advance notice on the changes for '97 & '00, too. As to whether or not doing so is rare, well, the Marlins' recent examples are the total opposite of rare. And we're not living in other markets to know fully how much PR those various unveilings get. In most cases, we're left to make assumptions based on what's revealed on social media -- an important aspect of PR but far from the only angle people in the local market would get.

RHP Eric Yardley claimed off waivers from San Diego

In other words, a guy worthy of bringing in, yet who could be replaced by stronger roster options depending on how the winter roster maneuvering unfolds. If there's value in different looks than all high-power FB/high-K guys, then we might be onto a good bullpen piece. -
If what you're saying is that because of some bullpen possibilities already on-hand -- esp. who could potentially be good & significant pieces of the relief equation -- that the Brewers should focus more efforts on acquiring a quality SP, I agree fully. I'm just wary of putting too many eggs in the baskets of Knebel & especially Wahl before we know they'll be able to contribute well (Knebel after TJ, Wahl at all). Not that I'm gun-shy because of it, but how the sum of the Woodruff/Burnes/Peralta rotation plan turned out is a fair reminder that even seemingly sure things aren't sure things until they've actually proven to be sure things.
-
Of course I'd love to see Wahl come in healthy and be a positively impactful bullpen piece, but he was never exactly MLB-proven (14 career MLB games, 13 innings) before he was injured. I'm very intrigued by his promise but I didn't think he was a roster "gimme" last year even before the injury, and I don't think we can count on him any more now than we could Nelson this time last year.
-
^^ Based on everything I've heard, this is correct. Players get taxed in every state for the portion of their player-salary income they earn in that state.

I can't help but accept that this change is upon us. I'm very interested to see what it all ends up like. That said... As much as I think the "normal" ball/glove logo is still pure genius, I absolutely hate that a) they're messing with it at all, and more importantly, b) they're ditching what I think is the best uniform/logo combo they've ever had and one of the best in all of MLB -- perhaps ever -- classic & classy in its style, modern in that it doesn't look antiquated like any teams currently or once in NY, CHI, or the Red Sox. . . . . And I'm not talking about the navy/yellow of the past couple years, either -- YUCK. Navy/gold. M/barley. Period. Ball/glove should be on the sleeve in navy/gold -- except on alternates where the two logos' locations would be reversed (something I wish they would've done but never have). I accept that I seem to be in the minority here. So be it. I'll be snatching up all the current stuff I can that looks good. . . . At least the new main color is a version of navy & not royal.

David Stearns comments on upcoming offseason
MNBrew replied to adambr2's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
What Perez are you thinking of? Hernan? They can't non-tender Hernan Perez because he's already a free agent. He was outrighted off the roster a couple weeks ago, declined the outright (since he'd been outrighted previously), and thus became a FA. -
I'm pretty sure that if the Brewers decline Anderson's option, he's a free agent. If the they wish to retain him, they have to pick up his option. If they pay the buyout, they're giving up their rights to him by not exercising their option on his contract, which then makes him a free agent. They couldn't re-sign him later if he's still available, but he's an FA and nothing's guaranteed.

Ha....so true. Half the time teams are treating players like trash and intentionally being worse in a given year just to get an extra year of control/avoid Super 2. It is really a non issue. If it was someone in the Houston organization would have came out by now to say something about his comments. The biggest douche move in this case (and all similar ones) is the reporter who has to ask him about free agency 10 minutes after losing Game 7 of the World Series. ^^ This, and the bolded part especially big time! Reporters/announcers seem to make some poor choices in terms of what angles they take or look to take.... While the Cole/FA storyline is obviously there, it really should be only a subtext, not a primary focus at all. It was an absurd, tasteless, and irresponsible question to ask, just as it was equally annoying to listen to the TV announcers talk throughout Game 5 about how it may be Cole's last outing in an Astros uniform, his last inning as an Astro, his last pitch as an Astro, and on and on and on. I don't think Cole handled some of his choices in that interview terribly well at all -- I still feel how I noted earlier about what his choices may indicate about his character -- but this really should be all about the Nationals winning & the Astros losing the World Series -- all about THAT moment -- not talkin' Hot Stove and about who's about to become a FA, for goodness' sake! Losing the WS is a really tough thing, and all the more so in Game 7 -- a pretty raw, emotional moment. Let the moment be about that.

Good move. A no-brainer.

He's got a roomful of devastated teammates and he pulls that stuff? Just horribly poor form. Self apart from (above?) team, and all the more advertising overt greed. I'm so sick of how Boras preys on & brainwashes his clients with promises of incredible dollar signs. Yes, it's a business, but that business is a TEAM game at its core. I'd be thrilled to have Cole the SP and I'd very likely open up multiple Brinks trucks to get him. However, I'm rather put off by what this suggests about Cole the person. Greinke was known to be a different sort of guy but he was still very much about his team -- just not in the same obvious way as so many other players. Heck, I'd still take Greinke even at this age. That guy is still an upper-end SP.

The opposite of timeless would be something along the lines of trendy (or at least mirroring the fashions of the time, however well or poorly). That's the farthest thing from what I want -- like the Mets clinging to black alternates years after black-as-primary proved to be the horrible idea it was (which the Marlins still haven't figured out, not surprisingly). I don't want to be the Yankees. But I want a uniform that looks good & classy no matter the era and the change of trends. That's "timeless" to me. If a ball/glove logo is to be the primary, I'd still rather they mess only with colors, not the design itself (outside of the seams of the ball, which is minor enough to me that I don't care). As for eras, the ball/glove logo-era uniforms had a mostly good run, all told, though many seem to forget that the mid-'80s (Lachemann & Bamberger 2.0 eras) were so atrocious that we earned the #1 pick one year -- a feat not duplicated since (in spite of the early 2000s bottoming out). Then the late '80s produced almost all winning years (thank you, Tom Trebelhorn, plus Garner's Year 1) and those uniforms lasted through the playoffs-near-miss in '92 plus Yount's 3,000th hit year. The uniforms so many didn't like in the '90s lasted only 6 years total (3 years of the initial version that included green as an accent, 3 years of the quietly revised version), not the whole decade.... No particular agenda to this paragraph, just that it's fun looking back & worth noting a few details that some here on this board remember first-hand and some may not have even been alive for.
-
Except the original was designed by an at-the-time 29-year-old graphic artist. It's the iconic look. This new one looks like the crappy $8 knockoff version. The current uniforms, logo, & primary colors (of which yellow is not) I think are both classic and classy -- timeless in a good way, and with a little more modern yet conservative sensibility & character than the Dodgers' & Yankees' uniforms, which are utterly boring beyond belief (not to mention just plain simply and very, very old). The mid-'90s logo & uniform switch was to something more classic & classy -- a step in the right direction, though they didn't get it quite right on the first try. If this leak is accurate, I shudder to think of what the whole package could look like. The old (and recently brought back) yellow instead of gold is a step in the wrong direction in my book. New is intriguing but it's neither necessarily nor automatically good. Can collared jersey shirts be far behind? And shorts instead of pants? Ugh. The circle with plain lettering inside? Heck, the font inside the circle with the barrelman logo in it would be far better -- and I'm not at all a fan of that kind of circle-enclosed look to the logo in the first place.
-
Part of the reason the Blue Jays' retro-direction on their latest uni works so well is that it's still basically the same as one of their classics BUT some of the curved nature of the lettering on the jerseys got sharpened up, as did (ever so slightly) the logo. That's really most of it. To whomever was complaining about gray road uniforms being SO plain.... of course they are! That's just how they are, and every team has them -- it's not just the Brewers. That's one of the main reasons why teams use other-colored alternate jerseys -- dating back to the Cubs in the early '80s, when they started wearing royal blue alternate jerseys. White at home & gray on the road are one of MLB's most timeless & fundamental of traditions when it comes to uniforms.

When we first got Hernan Perez, he wasn't very good. Then he kinda turned into something, esp. with a little power, solid defense, and excellent speed. Nowadays he hardly steals, doesn't hit much, his defense is solid enough, and his power's been pretty elusive. High on the character charts, too, but 1-for-4 on the on-field stuff is enough for me to wish him well wherever he lands next.

Brewer Photo History - Every Player 1970-2019
MNBrew replied to conklinwj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
This Holdsworth card looks like it's an Oakland uniform. Besides the fact that the "Brewers" across his chest is obviously digitally done, the Brewers NEVER had any version of a yellow jersey until the gold/mustard alternates about 5-8-or-whatever years ago. Heck, in those days, "alternate" or 3rd jerseys largely didn't exist except for Pittsburgh's oddly large combination of uniforms & their respective colors. In 1979/80, the Brewers were still 14-15 years away from pinstripe-less home pants. Furthermore... - the brims of both their caps were only blue and the underside was only ever green -- no yellow; - the only yellow on their caps outside the logo was on the center two panels around the logo on the road cap; and - the blue of the digital "Brewers" so obviously doesn't match the blue on the uniform trim.
