  1. by this, i presume you mean a serious injury requiring an absence of longer than 15 days. any player placed on the injured list prior to 2 may can be activated after just 10 days (placement can be backdated as much as three days). on 2 may and beyond, only position players can be activated after just 10 days.

  3. 2 may. conveniently allows clubs to complete their weekend series with their opponent with 28-man rosters, and if the downsizing results in optional assignment, it works in favor of the minor league club because they're off that day.
  4. i would assume that optioning (or injured list placement) for any pitcher prior to the sunday 1 may game would be a convenient way to keep that pitcher down for just 10 days, instead of 15. will be interesting to see if the brewers take advantage of this loophole.
  5. important to note: any pitcher who is optioned or placed on the injured list prior to the deadline to contract rosters by two players will require a minimum stay of only 10 days, instead of 15. thus, i wouldn't be surprised to see the brewers option the struggling devin williams, with the assurance that he'd only be down for 10 days.

  9. an injury suffered in spring training that was unknown to most of us until yesterday . . .
  10. it's the fair pole, not the foul pole. i'd bring back printed tickets. no more phone app crap. the play review umpire(s) in new york are no longer anonymous. all players, regardless of contract status, are paid in spring training. minor league players get to unionize. player names on the backs of all jerseys. spring training is shortened. rosters are at 40 until 1 may, and must contract to 26 on 2 may. no roster expansion in september. carry-in policies are the same across all teams. factory-sealed flavored water bottle of any size? okay. "america the beautiful" is performed before games, not "the star spangled banner". no more songs glorifying a war. every mlb stadium stateside for eliminated teams becomes an early voting center in even-numbered years. any team hosting a "faith night" must disclose the faith they're representing in all promotions. if it's christian faith night, call it that. if it's flying spaghetti monster faith night, call it that.
  11. pedro severino is eligible to come off the restricted list in early july, well ahead of the trading deadline. if they try to outright severino to the minor leagues, bear in mind that any team claiming him would not be able to use him in the postseason either. thus, i think he'd more easily clear outright waivers. severino could refuse an outright assignment and declare free agency, but again, any team signing him would not be able to use him in the postseason.
  12. luis urías was placed on the 10-day injured list, backdated to 4 april.
  13. justin topa has indeed been placed on the 10-day injured list, backdated to 4 april.
  14. victor caratini had been projected for $2.1mm. he avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $2.0mm deal.
  15. victor caratini has been acquired from the san diego padres for brett sullivan and a minor leaguer. caratini has one minor league option remaining, and has never been outrighted to the minor leagues. alex jackson has been acquired from the miami marlins for two minor leaguers. jackson is in his final options year, and has never been outrighted to the minor leagues. with these moves, the roster is at 39 players.
