    if victor caratini spends less than 20 days on optional assignment, he does not burn his option, and he's credited with a full season of major league service time and pay. also, any player who is optioned to the minor leagues after the third day following labor day shall receive major league service (but not major league salary) for the duration of his optional assignment. the former is a clever way to keep hiura's bat in the lineup for 20 days and not spite victor caratini too much.

    by this, i presume you mean a serious injury requiring an absence of longer than 15 days. any player placed on the injured list prior to 2 may can be activated after just 10 days (placement can be backdated as much as three days). on 2 may and beyond, only position players can be activated after just 10 days.

    important to note: any pitcher who is optioned or placed on the injured list prior to the deadline to contract rosters by two players will require a minimum stay of only 10 days, instead of 15. thus, i wouldn't be surprised to see the brewers option the struggling devin williams, with the assurance that he'd only be down for 10 days.

    daniel norris has declared free agency. is there a case to re-sign him?

    daniel norris appears to one one minor league option remaining, and has never been outrighted to the minor leagues. he does have enough major league service time to refuse an optional assignment.

    what about the gorman thomas "trade" to the rangers in 1977? if they don't get him back, there's no gorman thomas on the brewers from 1978 - 1983.
