  1. ROUND 34: Calvin Drummond - RHP 6'3", 185, R/R, Huntington Beach HS (CA) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/calvin_drummond.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Drummond's stuff keeps getting better as his body continues to get bigger and stronger. He throws in the mid-to-upper-80s on his fastball from a three-quarters delivery. He has clean pitching mechancis with a loose, live arm and the ability to repeat his delivery well. He throws both a slider and a curveball, both of which project to be solid pitches as he continues to hone them. Signing him away from UCLA will be difficult. NOTES & INFO: Has scholarship offer to UCLA Calvin Drummond Stats NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE:
  2. ROUND 35: Mike Vass - RF - SIGNED 6'1", 210, R/R, Chapman Univ. (CA) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/mike_vass.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Vass is a big-bodied corner outfield prospect whose game is highlighted by his impressive power potential. He does a good job controlling the strike zone and can crush mistakes with a swing tailored to pull pitches over the left-field fence. He does have some surprising speed for his large frame and somewhat stiff actions. NOTES & INFO: Mike Vass Stats NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Mike Vass Profile
  3. ROUND 36: Evan Bronson - LHP 6'3", 195, L/L, Trinity University (TX) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/evan_bronson.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Bronson doesn't throw particularly hard, sitting in the mid-80s for the most part, but he does a very good job changing speeds and hitting his spots which leads to a fair amount of strikeouts, at least so far during his college career. he's a long and loose lefty with good proportions that gets good extension on his pitches. NOTES & INFO: Evan Bronson Stats NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE:
  4. ROUND 25: John Delaney - SS - SIGNED 5'9'', 200lb, R/R, Quinnipiac Univ http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/john_delaney.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Delaney is a high-energy infielder that makes the most of his limited tools. He has a bat made for contact and has always hit for a high average during his college career. His swing can get long for his skill-set, and it's questionable whether he'll be able to hit nearly as well with a wood bat. His small stature limits his power potential, and his hustle makes him seem much faster than he actually is. He's a steady and heady ballplayer that should fill an organizational need in the lower levels of the system for the next few years. NOTES & INFO: John Delaney Stats NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: John Delaney Profile
  5. ROUND 26: Derrick Alfonso - C - SIGNED 6'0", 210, R/R, Louisville http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/derrick_alfonso.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Alfonso is a very good defensive catcher with an incredibly strong arm and the ability to neutralize oppoents' running games. He has thrown out nearly 50% of baserunners during his college career. While he's very well built, his actions are rather stiff, and that limits his footwork behind the plate as well as his bat speed at the plate. He has good power potential, and can hit the ball a long way when he makes hard contact, but his upside is limited. NOTES & INFO: Derrick Alfonso Stats NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Derrick Alfonso Profile
  6. ROUND 27: Austin Adams - SS 5'11'', 185, R/R, Faulkner U (Alabama) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/austin_adams.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Adams is an extremely versatile player with a strong arm that could be groomed as a short reliever as a professional. His arm strength can play on any position of the infield, and may make him an ideal utility player. He is a very good athlete with good but not great tools across the board, and has some pop in his bat despite his sub-6' frame. NOTES & INFO: NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE:
  7. ROUND 28: Brandon Garcia - C 6', 195, L/R, Bishop Gorman HS (Nevada) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/brandon_garcia.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Garcia is an interesting power/power prospect with home run power as a hitter and a very strong arm as a pitcher. That arm strength translates well to his ability behind the plate, where he is somewhat raw since he also plays first base given his use on the mound. He has a big, strong mature frame, and it's hard to see much physical projection left in his body. He's an interesting prospect as such a late-round pick, but that point may be moot at this point in time as he may be difficult to sway away from the Trojans. NOTES & INFO: Committed to play college ball at USC NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Brandon Garcia Profile/Stats
  8. ROUND 29: Tommy Collier - RHP 6'2", 192, R/R, Cypress-Fairbanks HS (TX) BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Collier is a very athletic player that was named Texas' 5A player of the year after his junior season. He excels as a two-way star with good bat speed and very good arm speed. He easily generates upper-80s to low-90s velocity with a whip-like delivery, and physically resembles many of the pitchers the Brewers took earlier in the draft with a projectable frame and interesting overall athletic ability and hitting potential. He is likely a tough sign who is committed to play for JC powerhouse San Jacinto. NOTES & INFO: 2007 Class 5A First Team All-State Has committed to play for San Jacinto. NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE:
  9. ROUND 30: Thomas (Wayne) Dedrick - OF - SIGNED 6'3'', 185, R/R, Hillcrest HS (AL) BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Dedrick benefitted playing with fellow Brewers draftee Blake Billings, whom the Brewers selected in the 19th round. Dedrick was pretty much unknown entering the spring, but is a very good athlete that led his high school team as a point guard to the basketball state championship. He has exciting power potential, and played third base as a high school senior but likely will move to the outfield at the professional level. He does have a basketball commitment to Lipscomb University to contend with. NOTES & INFO: HS teammate of Brewers' 19th round pick, RHP Blake Billings. NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Hillcrest Duo Drafted by Brewers
  10. ROUND 19: Blakeney (Blake) Billings - RHP 6'5", 200, R/R, Hillcrest HS (AL) BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: As Billings continues to grow into his tall and projectable frame, his fastball velocity has exploded. He has added 10 mph to his fastball over the last two years, and nows sits in the upper-80s to low-90s with the ability to touch the 92-93 range and plenty of room for added improvement. He has always had good control, and also throws a curveball, changeup and split-fingered fastball. He is a very intriguing high-reward prospect that could continue to blossom the next few years in the lower levels of the minor leagues, if he doesn't pursue his commitment to Shelton State junior college. NOTES & INFO: Goes by Blake. HS teammate of Brewers' 30th round pick, Wade Dedrick. NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Hillcrest Duo Drafted by Brewers
  11. ROUND 20: Liam Ohlmann - RHP - SIGNED 6'1", 228, S/R, Manchester CC (CT) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/liam_ohlmann.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Ohlmann is a big right-handed pitcher with a mature, physical frame that doesn't offer much projectability. He is a very bright young man that has always excelled in school, and is a man of many talents with many hobbies outside of school and baseball. He throws a very good sinking fastball and a slurvy breaking ball to go along with a show-me changeup. His fastball velocity sits in the upper-80s but he can touch the 90s on occasion. He pitches to contact, inducing ground balls, and knows how to change speeds and throw strikes. He started his college career at Virginia Tech. NOTES & INFO: Liam Ohlmann Stats NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Liam Ohlmann Profile
  12. ROUND 21: Lucas Luetge - LHP - SIGNED 6'3", 198, L/L, Rice Univ. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/lucas_luetge.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Lean and wiry lefty that has a loose and easy delivery. Spent his first two years at national powerhouse junior college San Jacinto, and came to Rice with big expectations as a possible weekend starter. Settled into a bullpen role, and while he has swing and miss stuff, he also can be fairly hittable. He has a good, slow curve and fading changeup to go along with his upper-80s fastball, which he commands well. Luetge could return to Rice for his senior year to improve his status and further his college career. NOTES & INFO: Lucas Luetge Stats Drafted by the White Sox out of high school in 2005 (31st round) and after his freshmen year at San Jacinto College (18th round). NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Lucas Luetge Profile
  13. ROUND 22: Benjamin Jeffers - RHP - SIGNED 6'1", 200, R/R, Chipola JC (GA) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/ben_jeffers.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Jeffers is a live-armed righty that missed all of 2007 due to Tommy John surgery. He has a very live arm and the velocity has already returned as he was throwing in the 93-95 range with consistency all spring. Like most TJ recoveries, he struggled to command his pitches this spring, although that was not a strength before the injury. He also throws a potentially wicked slider and solid changeup. His future may lie in the bullpen, where he was used this spring for national junior college powerhouse Chipola to ease him back from his injury. NOTES & INFO: Missed 2007 due to Tommy John surgery. NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Ben Jeffers Profile/Stats
  14. ROUND 23: Marcus Knecht - OF 6'1", 200, R/R, St. Michaels Col School (Canada) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/marcus_knecht.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Knecht is a good all-around athlete and interest outfield prospect with the ability to hit for average with some power. He has good speed, but his throwing arm is fringe average and may limit him to left field. He's one of the few Canadian prospects this year that hails from the province of Ontario, with most of the talent coming from British Columbia as evidenced by the Brewers selections of Lawrie and Wawrzasek. He has played for Canada's junior national team and has plenty of exposure hitting with a wood bat. Keeping him away from Oklahoma State will be difficult. NOTES & INFO: Committed to play college at Oklahoma State NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE:
  15. ROUND 24: Brandon Ritchie - LHP - SIGNED 6'4", 240, L/L, Grand Rapids CC (MI) BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Ritchie is an exciting prospect as a left-handed pitcher, with a big, sturdy frame and the ability to throw in the 92-93 range. He has an injury riddled history as a pitcher after missing his junior year in high school and most of his senior year due to Tommy John surgery, then he missed the 2007 season when he tore his ACL. His slider can be nasty at times, but lacks consistency, and while he does throw a changeup it's more of a show-me pitch. His athleticism is limited with stiff actions, and he will have to be mindful of his conditioning. He does have considerable upside, but he also has some issues to address for him to be successful as a pro. NOTES & INFO: Has scholarship to Indiana State. NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Ritchie Signs with Brewers
  16. ROUND 14: Corey Kemp - C - SIGNED 6'0", 225, R/R, East Carolina Univ. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/corey_kemp.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Big, hulking catcher that had a huge year at the plate for the Pirates on his way to being named Conference USA's player of the year. He has always had big power potential given his size, but his game really game together for him this spring. He started his college career at Tennessee Tech before transferring to Young Harris JC before ending up at East Carolina the past two seasons. While he does have interesting power potential and some prowess behind the plate, with a strong and accurate arm, his size and conditioning are big concerns. NOTES & INFO: Corey Kemp Stats Conference USA Player-Of-The-Year Previously drafted, Pittsburgh, Round 45, 2004 NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Corey Kemp Profile Corey Kemp Draft Story
  17. ROUND 15: Mark Willinsky - LHP - SIGNED 6'4", 220, R/R, Santa Clara Univ. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/mark_willinsky.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Built big and strong, Willingsky has an intimidating presence on the mound. His fastball runs up to the mid-90s, and he shows some nice late life on that pitch. Both his slider and his curveball also show very good, hard break when they're working for him, but he really struggles to throws all three of his pitches for strikes consistently. He has been wild, walks far too many batters and he can be hittable when he's forced to serve one across the plate. There are some character issues involved, as he missed the entire 2007 season after being ruled ineligible due to academic reason, but he seems to have the perfect demeanor for being a late-inning reliever. NOTES & INFO: Mark Willinsky Stats NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Mark Willinsky Profile
  18. ROUND 16: Stosh Wawrzasek - RHP - SIGNED 6'0", 225, R/R, Walnut Creek SS http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/stosh_wawrzasek.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: The Brewers landed the top two draft-eligible prospects from Canadan when they took fellow Langley, British Columbia natives Brett Lawrie (in the first round) and Stosh Wawrzasek. Wawrzasek is a barrel-chested righty who doesn't win over too many observers when they see his stocky frame. He does routinely surprise people with his looseness on the mound and overall athletically. His fastball sits in the upper-80s to low-90s, and he's touch the 93-94 range on occasion. His curveball is a potential plus pitch, and he also throws a solid changeup. It was expected that he would go about 8-10 rounds higher, so it may be difficult to sign him away from Florida International, but at this spot I'm guessing the Brewers get him in the fold. NOTES & INFO: Committed to play college ball at Florida International. NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Stosh Wawrzasek Local Coverage
  19. ROUND 17: Damon Krestalude - RHP - SIGNED 6'4", 185, R/R, Port St. Lucie HS (FL) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/damon_krestalude.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Krestalude is a tall, projectable pitcher with a very good frame that is expected to put on 15-20 pounds as he continues to fill out his frame. He has a nice and easy delivery that leads many to believe he will only continue to add velocity to his fastball which currently sits in the upper-80s. Both his curveball and his changeup are nice pitches at this stage in his development, giving him a very nice body of work to build on. He has committed to player for Indian River JC, but probably will sign with the team and join the Arizona Brewers. NOTES & INFO: Committed to play for Indian River CC. NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Krestalude Present On May 31st in Milwaukee
  20. ROUND 18: Nicholas Bucci - RHP - SIGNED 6'2", 180, R/R, St. Patrick HS (Canada) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/nick_bucci.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Bucci is an athletic and projectable righty with improving stuff. He consistently throws in the upper-80s with many expecting that velocity to increase and he continues to hone his craft as a professional. He has somewhat thrown under the radar despite playing for Team Ontario in that he wasn't among the top Canadian draft-eligible prospects for 2008. He throws a promising, slow curve and developing changeup that gives him a solid three-pitch arsenal to build off of. NOTES & INFO: Will report to the Brewers' rookie league team in AZ, immediately after his graduation next week. NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Bucci prepares for draft
  21. ROUND 12: Garrett Sherrill - RHP - SIGNED 6'5", 210, R/R, Appalachian State Univ. (NC) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/garrett_sherrill.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Sherrill is a very large, physical athlete that excelled in several sports at the high school level. He has intriguing power potential as a hitter, but his fastball velocity will lead him to being developed as a pitcher. He has pitched out of the bullpen the past two years at Appalachian State after beginning his college career as a starter with good results. He struggles to commands his pitches, and his arsenal is somewhat limited. His fastball profiles to be a plus-pitch, and if he learns to command it better while cutting down significantly on his walks, he could start to get more outs more consistently. NOTES & INFO: Garrett Sherrill Stats NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Garrett Sherrill Profile
  22. ROUND 13: Robert Wooten - RHP 6'1", 210, R/R, North Carolina http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/rob_wooten.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Wooten wasn't used much his first two years at UNC, but exploded last year as a junior when he was used as a set-up man for Andrew Carignan, leading the nation in apperances and being a big part of the team's second place finish in the College World Series. He entered the year as the team's closer, but was shut-down briefly for precautionary reasons. He returned and had an even better year as a senior. He thrives off of the command of his fastball, which sits right around 90 mph and has good movement. He also throws a slider and a splitter, and is a similar pitcher to David Weathers in that his arm recovers well and can be used several games in a row if needed. He profiles to serve the same role at the professional level, and could move somewhat quickly due to the strength of his fastball command. NOTES & INFO: Rob Wooten Stats NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Rob Wooten Profile
  23. ROUND 8: Eric Komatsu - LF - SIGNED 5'10", 190, L/L, Cal State Fullerton http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/erik_komatsu.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Komatsu is playing for his third college team in as many years, starting his career in the NAIA before moving to the junior college level before landing at Cal State Fullerton. His left-handed bat is his ticket to the big-leagues, with very good swing mechanics and bat speed that allows him to lace pitches to all parts of the field with a fair amount of over the fence power. He's a good all-round, heady ballplayer that can swipe a bag or two and plays good defense in the outfield with average arm stregnth. He's a little on the shorter side, but could be this year's version of Caleb Gindl, as he shouldn't have any problems hitting at Helena to begin his pro career. NOTES & INFO: Previously drafted, New York Yankees, Round 38, 2007 NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Eric Komatsu Profile
  24. ROUND 9: Michael Bowman - RHP - SIGNED 6'2", 195, R/R, Virginia Military Institute http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/michael_bowman.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: In a recurring theme of an incredible number of pitchers selected by the Brewers in this year's draft, Bowman is yet another good-sized, projectable and athletic righty that profiles in a very similar fashion to many of the arms selected before him. He has had very good success at VMI, with power stuff and a power approach that leads to a lot of strikeouts. His fastball sits in the low-90s, and he has a nasty yet inconsistent slider. His changeup is more of a work in process, which may lead to a move to the bullpen down the road, where he could thrive with an aggressive and fearless approach. NOTES & INFO: NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Michael Bowman Draft Story VMI Baseball sees remarkable turnaround Bowman drafted by Brewers
  25. ROUND 10: Gregory Miller - RHP - SIGNED 6'4", 220, R/R, Seton Hall http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/2008%20Draftees/greg_miller.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Built big and strong, Miller bucks the trend of the style of pitchers the Brewers have drafted up to this point. He is a very good athlete and repeats his delivery well for his size. He starred as a two-way thread as a sophomore and has interesting power potential, playing first base when he doesn't pitch, but his future lies on the mound with a fastball that can touch 95, a potential nasty slider and a solid changeup. He commands all of his pitches well, and he is still improving, as he hasn't been used as much on the mound given his prowess at the plate. NOTES & INFO: NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Greg Miller Profile "It's a great day for me and my family" draft article
