  1. What to do?....What to do? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Brewers are not proactive enough with pitching injuries. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Limit pitch counts http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Remove pitchers from games at first sign of an issues http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Not enough hitters at Huntsville http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Not enough hitters at High Desert http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Not enough pitchers at Helena. Do you carry 15 pitchers on a roster in order to keep pitch counts lowhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif , forcing pitchers to pinch hithttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif ? or Do you keep 12 pitchers with low pitch countshttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif and make position players pitchhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif ? Maybe the roster limits need to be reviewed.
  2. They actually have 383 runs. With 383 runs scored and 391 runs allowed they should have a record of 44-46. Which I believe means that they have been lucky to win 47 games. Ironically if you add 35 runs scored (last years offense) they should have a record of 48-42. In conclusion, luck has made up for this years offensive drop. Hell, I don't know what I am talking about. I just love that pythagorean winning percentage formula. link
  3. I wonder if this will change the opinions of some of the posters on Brewerfan.
  4. I agree Igor, but there is some serious mashing being done by some of these more experienced Helena hitters. If they can earn their way to Beloit it would seem to be good news for the full season teams. There seems to be room for more position players up and down the full season teams.
  5. Folks here said it last winter, and it makes sense. Not sure how a farm system can rank # 1 in all of baseball when one full level (one quarter of your organization above rookie level) is playing .333 or worse baseball. According to Jim Callis, the reason the Brewers are rated Number 1 is because in his opinion no other team has a trio of position prospects as good as Hardy, Weeks, and Fielder. So while a bad High Desert team may go along way in explaining why the Brewers are not ranked as high by some other publications that take into account affiliate records, it really means little to BA. When you consider the flameout rate of prospects, I tend to side with BA. Having 3 guys that most people feel are sure major leaguers (with all star upside) is very important. In short, quality is more important than quantity and remember that the number one ranking is relative to the other teams. My belief in this is probably why I don't get to upset by Luis Martinez, Tim Bausher, Jason Belcher, DJ Clark, Paul Stewart, Jeff Deardorff, or Marco Scutaro.
  6. I tried not to include question marks. If Gwynn did not make the list, Kade doesn't. I feel Krynzel is the longest shot of the guys not already at MLB and I would put his chances at 80% - 90% that he will get a chance to be an everyday player at some point in his career.
  7. If you take a look at the pool of players AA and above at each position (ignoring injury) things could definately be worse. 1B Overbay, Hart, Fielder, Nelson 2B Spivey, Ginter, Counsell, Hall, Weeks SS Counsell, Hall, Ginter, Hardy 3B Helms, Ginter, Hall C Moeller OF Jenkins, Pods, Grieve, Hart, Krynzel, Nelson
  8. As Brad Nelson streaks and Prince slumps, the numbers are begining to look pretty similar. AA *Fielder, Prince - 39g 6doubles 0triples 9hr 30rbi 18bb 30so 2sb 0cs .273avg .365obp .503slg AA *Nelson, Brad - 38g 10doubles 1triples 8hr 25rbi 14bb 42so 4sb 4cs .287avg .362obp .551slg The 1.5 year age difference definately tilts in Prince's favor, but who know what Brad would be doing today without the wrist injury.
  9. based on former prospect status Do you mean his prospect status with the Milwaukee Brewers or with Brewerfan.net? If it is the former....no....if it is the latter...yes.
  10. Also, Sheets has looked pissed out there. I've never seen this focus from him before. I was unable to catch much of the game on TV, but in the inning I did catch I noticed this right away. I have always maintained hope for Sheets as an ace, but I was always leery of his demeanor on the mound. Today he looked like a different pitcher.
  11. Prince is within a couple games of the time Nelson spent at Beloit last year. His numbers are better than Nelsons in every category except RBI and I think doubles. Just fun to compare.
  12. Clark's demotion would indicate to me a lack of respect for OBP... Has the NAAOBP been notified. Give me a break. Maybe it indicates that they actually watch the players and not just look at stats.
  13. Maybe we can get some insight into the DJ move by crystal balling the 40 man roster for next year. I think DJ has to be on the 40 man for the Brewers to keep him. Maybe the numbers have been crunched by management and DJ wasn't making the cut for a spot on the 40 man.
  14. Come on...I thought not getting Sanders and Lofton was proof of incompetence by Melvin. Giles, Lofton, and Sanders were going to be one of the best outfields and the Brewers were going to be one of the worst. Wasn't that the common sentiment in March?
  15. Boy, the Pirates have a potent outfield!
  16. I don't agree with Al much, but I do here. I think we tend to overrate this team. Last year, I felt the team wasn't as bad as the record shows and this year I don't think they are as good as the record shows. Their offense is better, but most of that can be attributed to having Jenkins playing at a All-Star level. The other positions are slightly better or slightly worse but overall fairly similar individualy. As a team, the offensive pieces fit much better together. The big gap that the Brewers need to bridge to get to a playoff level is the pitching. Last I looked, statistically we have a below average #2, and one above average and one below average #3 starter. Most contenders have two #1 starters. So in my mind he are two #1 starters from contending. So if we can acquire two #1 starters...go for it!
  17. I guess I am not ready to proclaim him "so far ahead of everyone else" until he wins a championship or sustains a 10 year type success level. I have serious questions about him doing either since: - they have been able to win a championship yet - they have 5 star players that are going to need to be paid real soon - their minor league system has been affected by trying to win now (value picks, college low ceiling guys)
  18. For all the Beane loving that has gone on around MLB it is interesting to break down their lineup. Off the top of my head they have about 4 home grown position players and by far their two best are High School drafted players. They hit big with 3 college pitchers, but the rest are mostly trades and free agents. Then you hear a lot about A's budget draft choices. That is what got the Brewers in trouble. I mentioned in another thread they only had one player on the BA top 100. It will be interesting to see how Beane's tenure looks 5 years from now.
  19. 4 walks in the last 3 games for Hart...I like that.
  20. I perfer attacking from Chilli.
  21. I just read an article in BA Magazine that rips Moneyball. In the article it mentions that Beane wanted Sheets in 1999 but settled for Zito because of signability. Sleeth probably has a much better chance of being a better player than Young and Weeks than the predraft hype would leave you to believe. But hey...this is exciting stuff. I love drafts!
  22. Maybe my ability to endure year after year of Brewers losing stems from my High School days as a Bluejay.
  23. Boy..you guys are young...I played against the Biegels.
