  1. My guess is that the luxury tax 'cap' will be raised next year. There's no way from an economics standpoint NBA teams are going to be able to survive since many of them are projected to be over the luxury tax cap next year. I really can't see that happening. According to some of the things Stern has said the NBA has not seen its gate incomes decrease all that much this year. However, it will suffer significantly more next year because less season ticket packages will be sold and renewed. While the increase cap number will save some teams from paying a luxury tax, it will allow some teams, already over to increase their spending. The NBA is aware of this and is not going to let its teams increase spending with less revenue coming in.
  2. I heard Jay Bilas make the point on the radio yesterday that when Big Ten teams play in the tournament, when games are officiated more tightly, teams scored more. I agree that sometimes Big Ten basketball games resemble their football counterpart so I went back to last year and looked at the numbers. 2007-2008 Wisconsin in conference points average- 65.5, in their 3 tournament games they scored 71,72,56 Michigan State- 66.7, 3 tournament games- 72,65, 74 Purdue- 68.6, 2 tournament games- 90, 78 Ohio State in the NIT: In conference average, 65.2, NIT games- 84, 73, 74, 81, 92 So there is a small increase in scoring outside of the conference in tournament games and Ohio State and Purdue saw a pretty big jump. There may be many factors for the increase because it is a small sample but my theory is that the Big Ten game is more physical due to the officials letting the players play. They may be playing better defense only because less fouls are being called.
  3. I agree with everything you said Dmiles. The only logical direction the Bucks are going is being over the cap, otherwise I have no idea what they are doing. If they are just keeping guys to make a run at the 7th or 8th seed knowing that they will get bounced in the 1st round by Cleveland or Boston then this team is lost. I am sure they talked about being over the cap when they traded for RJ and they must have had the same conversation yesterday when when they did not trade him for Wally S.'s contract.
  4. You are probably right on with this JJ. There will only be a few teams this offseason willing and able to spend (Portland, Memphis, OKC). This will make for a dry FA market that may be in the Buck's favor. The real question is if Kohl will go over the cap.
  5. The cap number will be lower next year and their is a strong possibility it will be even lower the next year (2010). The slumping economy will rear its head around May when next years season ticket renewals come up.
  6. Looks like RJ will stay. http://sports.espn.go.com...e=TradeTalkRoundup-090218
  7. My first thought: Does Quevado fit on a licence plate? It doesn't.
  8. I just did a quick search on worst NBA contracts and found Bill Simmon's rankings. 8. Dan Gadzuric, three years, $20.3m 7. Marko Jaric, three years, $21.3m 6. Larry Hughes, two years, $26.5m 5. Jamaal Tinsley, three years, 21.5m 4. Baron Davis, five years, $60m 3. Eddy Curry, three years, $31.5m 2. Elton Brand, five years, $84m 1. Gilbert Arenas, six years, $111m Curry must have a player option on his deal, which he would be stupid not to excercise. SO if they would take Lee and the 3rd worst contract, Portland may be willing to take RJ and the 8th. They are pretty loaded at PF, but Lee could play some SF for them. There need is really for a wing type player and RJ seems to fit the mold.
  9. You may be right but Portland is in an interesting situation right now. They are one of the few teams who will not be in the 2010 FA Royal Rumble, so they are willing to take on salary. especially after the Miles situation. This article I think spells out there options. http://trailblazers.realg...options_at_small_forward/ However now it looks like they may be making a run at David Lee, if they were to get Lee they would have to take on Eddy Curry and his 2 year 9.7 mil salary, which is still better than the 3 yr 6.2 of Gadz. Man that Gadz contract is one of the worst in the NBA. In the end I think RJ is not going anywhere, but I have been wrong many, many times before.
  10. I read about the Portland rumor this morning. Taking Lafrentz's expiring contract would be so great. What would be even greater is giving away Gadz and Jefferson for nothing to get both of them off the books...
  11. Did anyone watch the game tonight? Why did Charlie V only get 21 minutes? Also when Ridnour comes back if he bumps Sessions out of the starting line-up I will be angry...
  12. KM and RyDogg thank you so much. I will probably be sending you a PM KM (haha). I am thinking I should really get serious about what type of work I want to do beforehand and pick the school that best suits the line of work. I have some ideas of the work I would like to do but need to do some research. Again, thank you guys for the info.
  13. All I can say is that he is a freak of nature, actually all NFL players are freaks, except for kickers.?
  14. I just got into Rillo's league as well. I am the 1/2 tool player, sorta fast...
  15. Thanks for the info already guys. I have been accepted at 6 schools: Hamline (Minn) St. Thomas (Minn) William Mitchell (Minn) Northern IL John Marshall (IL) Marquette The scholarship offers are all for the schools other than Marquette. I know that Marquette is not a very prestigous school, but it ranks better than the other 5 and it does have its advantages. If I were to attend Marquette I could live with my aunt and uncle for the first year so living expenses would be lessened. I am planning on staying in Wisconsin for the foreseeable future so automatic bar passage is nice and their new law school building is a plus. But it is going to cost some serious cash and I am wondering if it will be worth going into that much debt when I could be getting a law degree at a fraction of the cost. Again thanks for all the help.
  16. I recently was accepted into a few law schools and am looking for some advice anyone has had on choosing graduate or law schools. I have been offered partial scholarships to a couple of the schools, in one case a 75% scholarship, but these schools are not highly ranked. On the other hand I was accepted into a better school but it looks like I will not be receiving any scholarships but will probably be receiving federal aid. So it boils down to this, take a better school for more money or pay less (significantly) at a worse school. (I use worse only in a relative sense). There are other pro's and con's but I would be looking for any general advice anyone would have.
  17. The Deers started: Sessions Jefferson Mbah a Moute CV Elson and still won. Crazy.
  18. I love this clip.? It is called the escalating interview.
  19. Absolutely, why post in a thread that you obviously do not care or know anything about? Thanks for contributing to the conversation. The way I look at this trade, and it seems like it will go down, is that we just cannot have a score first PG on this team with Redd, Jefferson and Bogut. The Bucks need more of a distributor type because there are not enough shots for Williams, Redd and Jefferson. We are going to be getting the raw end of the deal talent wise but it seems like the team wants to change directions.
  20. Well with Tampa Bay's injuries in the last few days (Crawford, Longoria) there may be a chance they would take him. The question is will Boston, who is in front of the Rays in the waiver line, claim him. He is nowhere near the player he was but TB is going to be looking for some offense.
  21. If you do not like ESPN, why would you watch?
  22. I would be shocked if his performance won the Oscar, dead or alive. I think the Joker could have been played by other actors just as well (Christian Bale comes to mind for his performance in American Psycho). I just think that the Joker was a mix of good acting, writing, effects and to be honest, make-up. Ledger was good but I do not think he was epic. He is getting a lot more attention because he plays a very dark character shortly after he died in a strange/upsetting manner. I really do not think you can deny that TLB.
  23. It always seemed he never had good control, he was just "effectively wild". I am sure he will end up on a major league diamond again, there are enough teams out there willing to take a chance.
  24. Is it that hard to just flick the lever, even if no one is around?
  25. Not using a turn signal when turning or changing lanes. It takes so little effort yet so many do not do it.
