  1. McClung is servicable as the last man in the bullpen so I have no issue with him at all. McClung is pitching meaningful innings. Plus I think Bush is probably better than Mota/Riske as well as Turnbow or McClung -- probably better than Shouse in a multi-batter situation. There isn't a huge reason to make BUsh a RP expecially considering his problems are the 1st inning and with RISP which are both disasters waiting to happen in a RP role. You cannot assume that if a starter struggles in the first inning that they will be a bad reliever. I'd rather see what Bush could do in relief than keep him in the minors in the offchance someone gets hurt.
  2. i don't want tbow or mcclung throwing meaningful innings, and this is a further step to keep that from happening... No, it's not. Again, McClung has pitched in 5 games -- 4 of those were meaningful innings. If McClung was actually limited to garbage, I'd see your point. bush needs to be kept as an alternative to a hurt starter and that's what they are doing... I don't see how this works. In an emergency situation, it will be a function of who pitched last in Nashville, if they slide people up in the rotation, I don't see why Bush couldn't do that from the pen. i would have sent parra down, I would have sent Parra down before Bush as well. if things go badly, it will be because ned misuses his options fair enough.
  3. Oh, by the way, getting Mike Cameron back is positively huge. Who says it isn't. If we make Bush a RP then if a SP gets hurt we have Narveson or Weaver starting for us while Bush gets stretched out in the minors to start. This is same sort of logic that keeps Yost from letting Rivera PH. If a Brewer starter gets hurt on Monday, and Bush pitches on Sat, Sun or Monday in Nash., he can't help out the Brewers. If this is the reason they sent Bush down, I think it is a bad one. That is much more scary to me than McClung pitching junk innings in the 5th/6th. Keeping McClung on our roster is silly -- given the way he has been used this year. Counting today, McClung has pitched in 5 games, only one of those games could be considered "garbage". Mota has 9 appearances, Turnbow 6, the rest have 12-13 appearances. Putting Bush in our BP upgrades it. Keeping McClung on the roster to pitch one game a week does not make sense to me. Keeping Bush in AAA so he can leap into our rotation if a pitcher gets hurt, seems logistically improbable to be effective. Hopefully Turnbow is traded or released to bring us down to 12 pitchers since he is absolutely useless. Couldn't agree more here.
  4. its a smart move...just not the kind of move we as brewer fans are used to seeing... I disagree, -- on both counts. the fact that we now have two major leaguers pitching in AAA reveals unbelievable depth... the fact we have 2 major league pitchers in AAA, and Turnbow/McClung in the major leagues makes my brain cry. Someone has either lost their mind, or is baiting BF.net.
  5. (But the two interviews are not bugging me in the slightest.) Good Luck with those!
  6. When he blew up, he blew up pretty bad, but for the most part, he was very good. By my count he had 16 bad outings. Led the league in scourless outings as well. This does not mean what you want it to. He had a scoreless outing today.... Saying you wouldn't want him as your SU, fine. He let 85% of his inherited runners score. Saying he wasn't good enough to be on the team at all? I don't think he is good enough to be put in games that the Brewers could conceivably win -- and I would bet DM & NY agree with me based on their usage of Turnbow last year. Is he good enough to pitch garbage innings? You bet! -- but at $3.3M -- I'd pass. The bottom line was that the 07 Turnbow wasn't good enough to pitch in meaningful games in 2007, why that clown gets a roster spot at the expense of Bush is beyond me.
  7. His 07 form wouldn't help this team? Nope. I wouldn't take 07 Turnbow on my team.
  8. Wow. If Bush is optioned this is pretty stupid.
  9. You think 9 PH ABs is worth more than one Sheets start? If I had to chose between Sheets missing 2 starts, or the Brewers having their current roster situation for 15 days -- I'd DL Sheets in a heartbeat. Not having Sheets hurts us for 2 games, not having a RHer off the bench hurts us every game.
  10. FTJ I think this might be on Dale Fair enough -- I still think though that buck still passes to Yost ----- Continued here: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=30573
  11. I personally think that one more Sheets start is much more valuable than a handful of AB spread over a few games. I disagree. If you put Sheets (or any starter for that matter) on the DL for 15 days -- the maximum amount of games that the you would be disadvantaged at would be 3. If you keep that starter on the active roster for 15 days at the expense of a bench player/PHer, the maximum number of days that you would be disadvantaged is 15. In this case Sheets has already missed one start, so if he would have been put on the DL Apr. 19th, he would have only missed 2 starts (he wouldn't pitched on the 23rd in either case). Given the Brewers SP depth, I certainly would have given up 2 strarts by Sheets, than to be hamstrung on the bench for 15 days.
  12. Yep. If Ned trusts a guy, and that guy makes even one bad decision, that's the manager's fault for allowing him to fail. I'm not blowing up Ned or Braun for a "bad decision", getting thrown out at third with 2 outs is buffoonery. Either Yost called for the steal, or he has done a horrible job of teaching fundamentals to his team, as Braun is not the only guy that has been thrown out at third. Braun is NOT an experienced MLB basestealer. Yost is an idiot is he gives a guy like Braun the green light in all situations.
  13. In another bit of irony, the second baseman for the Cardinals who faced Saenz that day was Bo Hart who is also now a Schaumburg Flyer I was at this game as well -- Bo Hart struck out 4 times I think
  14. I think the designs are confusing. I thought the baseballs were bandaids. If you sell these, all the more power to you, but they seem like a real reach to me.
  15. 14 Pitchers and 25 Cups of Coffee -- The Ned Yost Story.
  16. It's hard to quote your posts exactly when they get hidden, because of their condescension. I think Braun might be a guy that does have the green light though. That's on Ned as well then.
  17. "Gabe takes off and I'm looking around thinking, 'What's going on here?' " Yost said. Yost would not have been shocked if players really stole bases at will
  18. Ok I am done with this but I still don't think there is an understanding. You are so incorrect. From last year. CLEARLY, Yost makes the call to steal 3b.... I'm sure everyone here will remember this. Gabe Gross hit a one-out double in the first inning but ended the inning by getting caught trying to steal third as Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo struck out Ryan Braun. "I had a mosquito bite in a certain spot and I was itching it, and Nick thought I was putting the steal on," Brewers manager Ned Yost said, referring to third-base coach Nick Leyva. Baseball creed says never to make the first or third out at third base, and with Prince Fielder due up after Braun, seeing Gross take off for third was simply shocking. "Gabe takes off and I'm looking around thinking, 'What's going on here?' " Yost said. "That was an omen to begin with." Gross was equally shocked. "I thought it was kind of a weird time, but he put it on and I took off," Gross said.
  19. You don't pull a pitcher with an ERA under 1 after he lets 2 guys on base. Mota's ERA is deceptive -- He has an almost a 1 to 1 BB to IP ratio. He has Vargased out of some jams -- but he has been pretty shaky.
  20. Braun or any other player can steal third if they know they can make it. How do you know this? He might not take the chance going forward seeing he got caught but he had done it before and was safe. But in the end I don't see how Ned has anything to do with this just as he didn't when Hart got thrown out at 3rd with no outs the other day. or Yost could tell his team -- "nobody steals 3rd with 2 outs". Either Yost sent Braun, or does not have control of his team.
  21. And this is what I don't get about people who dislike Ned. Saying he doesn't understand baseball? No. Some poster said "we don't understand baseball" -- I said "No, only Ned." -- meaning most people here have a problem grasping Ned, not baseball strategy. And lastly, if you believe coaches send in a sign to steal third base, we might be dealing with bigger problems on the baseball knowledge front. So Dale is doing the Macarena at 3rd after every pitch? -- He isn't doing that right either. That is always an instinct play and Braun did that on his own. Well, if Braun has the green light to steal 3rd with 2 outs, that's on Yost as well. NO WAY he was told to go. It's something you can't call on a certain pitch. Just can't. Are you telling me that coaches can't/don't tell their players when to run? I don't understand what you are saying. I am going to finish by saying Ned haters are really great to listen to Thanks! -- We have the best takes.
  22. I love how you can come in the vent thread after a loss where the offense didn't score a run, and Mota couldn't make just that one pitch in each at bat that cost him, but the only criticism on the board is of Ned. I think if you actually read the board there is currently criticism o'plenty for just about every Brewer not named Jason Kendall. Some of you must not either understand baseball False. Mostly just Ned. kmcasper23, you do realize every manager in baseball does one completely stupid thing each game right? Whether it's statistically or guessing, RARELY does any manager have a "perfect game." Again False. Every manager does something in every game that doesn't produce the desired results -- that is true, but most of those decisions are dependable, and not stupid. Ned Yost has turned stupidity into an artform. No one here is hoping for a perfect game from Ned Yost -- just less stupid ones. He didn't overslide third base last night. Having Braun trying to steal 3rd base with 2 outs is the epitome of stupidity.
  23. I believe they had the leadoff hitter on base 8 out of 10 innings last night. I wonder what the odds of getting the leadoff on 8 out of 10 times and 0 runs is.
  24. Getting tired of everyone blaming Yost every time the team loses. He made some dumb moves. Both he and DM should be getting heat for their crazy roster situation. He was safe on a feet-first slide into 3B, but then his momentum & Jorge Cantu kind of pushing him (their legs were tangled, hard to explain) carried his foot off the bag, & Cantu kept the tag on him for the out. Why are we stealing 3rd base with 2 outs? -- Why does Braun do a pop-up slide there? Olsen has 49 pitches thrown through 5 innings. Amongst other things, we're not working the count well. I noticed at this point Yo had about 90 pitches. Weeks not completing 2xplays and other errors/non-plays are not helping our pitchers with their counts either.
