  1. According to the Pat Hughes on the Cubs broadcast (I have XM, so I was stuck listening to the home team broadcast while in my car), Rickie ran through a clear stop sign in the 9th inning. Now I love Uke and would not trade him for anyone... but he occasionally misses the details during exciting plays, so I think I actually would trust Hughes more until I see the video of the play. Fair enough... I was listening to the Brewers radio, and Uke said "they're sending Weeks", during the play, and then after the play was over and Uke was recapping it, he said "Sveum sent Rickie". It is certainly in the realm of possibility that Hughes is right and Uke was wrong, and obviously if Weeks ran through a stop sign, that's on Weeks. If Sveum did send Weeks, it was really a bad decision. Again, what's more likely, that they don't make two perfect throws, or that Craig Counsell gets a hit there? This is not a fair statement. Both Weeks and Fielder were out by large margins, perfect throws were not required. I certainly understand the idea that being more aggressive with Fielder might have merit with Counsell at the plate. However, given the fact we had Fielder/Hart on deck, and Kerry Wood on the ropes, I would have held Weeks up at 3rd 9 times out of 10. 2nd and 3rd with one out with Prince/Hart at the plate with a struggling Kerry Wood, is a game begging to be blown wide open. Kudos to Soto for taking on Prince and putting the big guy on his backside. EDIT: Fact is, he has been rather invisible most of this year Given our offensive woes this year, Sveum could have been napping out at 3rd base, and no one would notice http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  2. At the time, I though it was a good play to send him. At some point, you need to quit testing Fukudome's arm
  3. Well from what I heard on the radio weeks ran through a stop sign. If you listened to the Brewers radio broadcast, Uke said twice Sveum sent Weeks.
  4. I am not going to look up past threads Of course you are not, because what you said is absolutely false. Yost is always going to get ripped here, because we all have different opinions on how baseball should be approached. People's gripes stay pretty consistent.
  5. I'm pretty sure because Turnbow doesn't have 5yrs of service, he can't decline his demotion, w/o losing his salary. However, if the Brewers try to send him to Nash., he has to clear irrevocable waivers, and if a team claims him, they pay Tbow the league minimum (~400K), and the Brewers pick up the rest of his salary. It may be best to trade him for some minor league player.
  6. i still cannot believe he stayed in the game yeah -- that may have not been the smartest thing.
  7. What I'm saying is that injury concerns were treated by many as 'What're the chances of something like that happening?'... 'Seems silly to worry about', etc I think this is unfair -- I think most people here realize any player is pretty likely to miss some time with an injury. An injury like this now has serious repercussions in every season Tulowitzki plays from now on. His knee is now that much more likely to have problems in the future, even over the next 5-6 seasons (the course of his deal). Sure. Ballplayers get hurt, injuries accumulate, yet they continue to get multi-year deals. To borrow from your style of 'It's not like he died', it's not like he sprained his ankle or broke his toe here. Right, however the Rockies remain likely to get a lot of value out of Tulo.
  8. I'm sure many CLE fans said Cliff Lee was "done" last year as well. Cliff Lee was hurt and a much better pitcher. I'd bet on the Turnbow is done horse.
  9. I think the discussion threads on the 'extend young players 45 1/2 seasons into the future' displayed evidence that contradicts that, FtJ. You are saying, that people here are not smart enough to discern the risk in signing a player to a long-term contract.
  10. Yes, but if this were to be a serious long term injury or becomes one (which granted is not likely with just a muscle tear) then that's a lot of money down the tube. I think every understands the risks involved with a long-term contract.
  11. Exactly, and injury concerns like this were dismissed so quickly by so many when people brought them up at the time of his/Longoria's signings. It's not like he died. He was bound to get hurt somewhere in the multi-year deal.
  12. I think the call to send Prince home today from second was questionable as the ball just wasn't hit that deep. Sure, Prince is a big guy and can try to take out the catcher, but that throw beat Prince home by at least 4 steps. I thought sending Prince there was absolutely stupid. Does anyone know if Sveum was sending Rickie in the 9th today when he got thrown out at plate? I have heard it said that he ran through a stop sign but I was listening on radio and didn't hear anything about that. He was sent, according to Uke. See, I wasn't even that upset about Rickie's play at the plate in the 9th - maybe that's just personal, but I felt like that kind of aggressiveness when it's top 9 and we had gotten the lead is ok. When you are a half-step past aggressive you are being stupid. Weeks had no chance at scoring. It was a free out.
  13. I will say 12 wins.
  14. Maybe Soto really is that good and his crazy BABIP last year wasn't that crazy? Yeah, I dunno, but man he has done a lot since getting the starting role in Chicago.
  15. I don't think adding Branyan or any other left handed bat would make a whole lot of difference. Making him option #1 off the bench instead of Counsell/TGJ would raise the team OPS.
  16. What position and when are they going to play? Branyan -- occasional 3b/of, and a LH PHer off the bench.
  17. I think it is sort of like a pendulum. You have years of radio guys defending clearly incompetent players/coaches/front office dudes, which pisses off the fanbase, but instead of finding a middle ground -- the fanbase swings way over to the other side, where you are negative for the sake of being negative. The pendulum is the best way to describe sports fanbases that I am aware of.
  18. I always thought he looked like the banjo kid from Deliverance http://www.halifaxslasher.com/hs/listmovies70_files/deliverance_banjo.jpg http://tiger.towson.edu/~rhurd1/images/Clark%20Brady%202006%20Topps%20Heritage.jpg
  19. Since we know Bush cleared waivers, is it possible Turnbow did as well Yep, certainly possible if not probable. I can't imagine a waiver claim of Turnbow upsetting DM at this point though. My guess is that he will get DFA'd and then in the next 10 days (or so) traded for the proverbial Max St. Pierre, or released. but does anyone think its possible he tanked on purpose last night? His control was so bad, I don't think he could have done anything on purpose. If he did tank, I think he hurts himself worse than his team. Certainly any teams considering taking a flyer on him could have been scared off, and Tbow might be signing with an Indy league team here shortly.
  20. Of course the flip side of your post, should address the decades of sports radio homerism, where the home team is never wrong, the players never screw up etc.... I know the homerism irritates me as much as the negativity. I don't like listening to much sports radio. I sort of like that Homer guy thats on in the late afternoon, he seems to straddle the line of rooting for the home team, yet not being oblivious to the teams problems.
  21. And am I bad person for wanting Turnbow to do horribly in this situation, just for the ammunition to get rid of him? No. I don't think so. This relationship just needs to end. I really like Tbow as a person, and I don't enjoy watching him get shelled. It will be pretty ugly is he ever gets the ball in MP again. He really needs a fresh start -- I'd like nothing more than to see him regain his form under a different set of coaches.
  22. No, I do not really think that if we win it is in spite of Ned. That is, in summation, the prevailing attitude of the first camp. Insofar as if Craig Counsell is our starting 3b and we win games, it's not because Craig Counsell is doing anything but being Craig Counsell.
  23. Where did it come from? Is there some sort of study like the link from gifted or what? Yes -- it was a way more thorough study. I don't have a link though, as it was done some time ago. I'm sure you can find it if you google it.
  24. One assessment says quite the opposite. Of course their study is very limited, but it think it has more value than some random number. The "3" wins is far from a random number.
  25. I'm sorry to interrupt the I hate Ned Yost circle-j*rk, and will not do so in the future Thanks! -- your kind consideration will be appreciated So...barring an abnormally bad bite by the injury bug or something like that, you feel this Brewer roster should win roughly how many games this year? I am not going to pretend I know this -- However I think the Brewers are an 80 team -- then with the Yosted factor, subtract 2-3 games. I think a good manager could get 82 wins out of this team, -- If the team continues on with Ned I would guess 78. I'm not discounting the difference... I would just like to know what people feel it is. I think going from a bad to a good manager nets a team 5 wins. Where would they finish with his replacement? Depends on the replacement -- if it was Dale Sveum, I'd say sub-Yost. Ned Yost's hat probably a couple of games above Yost.
