  1. Do people here really, truly, in their heart of hearts believe that 18 pitches in a game, on the day of a side session, has anything to do with today? Really? I realize starting pitchers have a frail routine that everyone follows as if it were gospel, and I agree that the decision to bring Bush into the SF game was curious, compounded by the eventual loss. But come now. Ned Yost can be accused of managerial shortcomings from time to time, but given the constraints on his bullpen, the lack of reliability, and the reality that it was Bush's day to throw anyway hardly makes this a decision to chide. Dave Bush is not an ace starter. He's been quite good lately, but he's going to give up longballs and he's going to give up hits. He throws a lot of hittable pitches. Add a home plate umpire that has a tight zone, a hitter's park, a very good hitting team, and simply being off his game and voila. I refuse to believe 18 pitches on Wednesday has a shred of relevance.
  2. Dear Darron, Stop announcing like a vindictive four-year-old every time something bad happens. Quit pouting. Love, Kaukauna
  3. Anundsen and Bouchie both in the fold, leaving just Gillespie unsigned in the top 10. Good stuff.
  4. From a media release sent about 20 minutes ago: MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers have signed RHP Jeremy Jeffress, their first selection (16th overall) in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft. The signing is contingent on the passing of a physical. The signing was announced today by Special Assistant to the General Manager/Director of Amateur Scouting, Jack Zduriencik. ?We are very pleased to have come to terms with our first-round selection,? said Zduriencik. ?This is an indication of a young man with a desire to begin his career immediately. Jeremy has an understanding of getting into uniform sooner rather than later to help begin the developmental process.? Jeffress, 18, is scheduled to begin his professional career with the Arizona Brewers in the Rookie Arizona League. He went 5-1 with a 0.19 ERA at Halifax County Senior High School this season, striking out 71 batters in 37.0 innings pitched. Jeffress is expected arrive in Milwaukee this weekend.

  7. Brewers signed the Brewer, per release from the team: The Milwaukee Brewers today signed second-round pick SS Brent Brewer (Sandy Creek HS, Fairburn, GA). Brewer will report to the Rookie Arizona Summer League Brewers.
  8. Brewers sign 32-year-old lefty Justin Thompson, he of brief fame as a starter for the Detroit Tigers, to a minor league contract. The club also invited Carlos Corporan and Nestor Corredor to Spring Training...all info per a team release. Thompson, 32, was originally selected by the Detroit Tigers as the 32nd overall pick in the first round of the 1991 June draft. A veteran of parts of five Major League seasons, Thompson?s best year came in 1997 with Detroit when he went 15-11 with a 3.02 ERA for the Tigers. The lefthander has battled injuries throughout much of his career but was one of the cornerstones of a nine-player trade that was engineered by Melvin when he was General Manager of the Rangers in 1999. Thompson pitched for the Rangers organization this past season, splitting the campaign between Double-A Frisco, Triple-A Oklahoma and Texas. He began the season with Frisco in the Texas League posting a 2-0 mark and a pair of saves alongside a 2.84 ERA in 12 appearances. He was promoted to Oklahoma in May and went 2-2 with 4.70 ERA over 25 appearances (one start). Thompson made a pair of relief appearances for the Texas Rangers in August, allowing four runs in 1.2 innings of work.
  9. Brewers sign left-hander Wilfredo Rodriguez to minor league contract and invite him to spring traning, along with Zach-Jack, Palmisano and Rottino. From the release: Rodriguez, 26, spent the majority of the 2005 season with Frisco, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, where he posted a 4-5 mark alongside a 3.80 ERA in 12 starts. He also made a pair of starts for Triple-A Oklahoma recording no decisions with a 1.42 ERA. Now 11 non-roster invites on the docket.
  10. Well I agree Harry Kalas is an acquired taste, but the Phillies announcer was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002. I'd take him over most.
  11. It's only through five innings, but this performance will hopefully rank a close second only to the Steve Woodard vs Roger Clemens debut as far as Brewer pitching debuts go. Well, if that isn't reason enough to avoid overexcitement, I'm not sure what is. Good ole Steve Woodard...curses to Otis Nixon for preventing the no-no.

  15. FREE BASEBALL!! Ok, now I'm just getting carried away. Daron Sutton tells us that Luis allowed three runs in five innings, but only one of them earned. Another decent job, it appears.
  16. Personally, the more I watch, the more I see Young as the greater disaster than Clayton. I mean, both are absurd, but Clayton is at least buried in the eight spot. Young leads off! And he seems to single handedly make outs happen, even after reaching base. Sheesh, Clayton's a pretty automatic out, but at least he doesn't get on and get off. Another dinger for DeJean! Hurray! I hate this team right now. go packers.
  17. The Eric Young Fundamental Baserunning Video, Order Now! Discounted, now just 99 cents with the purchase of a Royce Clayton Clutch-Hitting Batter's Machine.
  18. Just to ensure we're all keeping track at home: Ginter: Age 27, .276/.342/.427 in 232 at bats with 8 home runs (now 9) and 26 RBI (now 29). Price: 301,000 Clayton: Age 33 .214/.287/.336 in 284 at bats with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. Price: 1.5 mil Young: Age 93, I mean 36 .256/.337/.415 in 390 at bats with 14 home runs and 29 RBI. Price: 2 mil.
  19. Our Philly friend says Kolb was hitting upper nineties consistently, yet the radar gun on Foxsports indicated 90,91,92 for most part...which is it? Does Fox typically have a "slow gun?" God I hate how all radar guns arent created equal.
  20. FREE KEITH OSIK. oh wait...did I read the mantra wrong? Whoops.
  21. I believe Weeks went one-for-three and was hit by a pitch, but I don't have any greater details.
  22. Weeks didn't play, fear not.
  23. Because this is their first full year as big league starters.
  24. Wow, Indy bullpen implodes. Might be a good day to take a mulligan. Great to see Rushford still doing well, though.
  25. Caught this line out of the notes from milwaukeebrewers.com Yost estimated that Rusch could need up to another three weeks before being activated. Hmmm...I can see three to four weeks becoming about five days into September...rehab assignment needed...season ends and Glendon gets only one or two more starts in 2003...selective memory has Brewers remembering how Glendon pitched in these last couple outings....option picked up. Muh-wah-ha-ha! It's genius. EDIT: just realized that I forgot to consider there can be no rehab assignments in September. I still sense something's afoot. Release the hounds.
