  1. Bingo. I hate to pile on, but I don't get your assessment hauser. These stats say it all, Jenkins has been as hot as anyone over the past few weeks. I'm guessing you haven't looked at any numbers and are going on recent memory, recent being as far back as yesterday. EDIT--read your last post. While I see your point, I don't think you can just pull games out and then he say he's struggling. He was huge for us in those games and has otherwise been solid since the break. I don't think he's a "put the team on his back" kind of guy anymore, but I've been very pleased with his second half thus far.
  2. Eric Young was a decent (stress "decent") ballplayer, and Loretta was solid. Bill Hall was on that team for awhile too. And there were a few good relievers with Vizcaino, King, a good year from DeJean. Otherwise, yeah, a lot of names that we'd all like to forget (or only remember in this context).
  3. I just finished attending classes there (last year of the PharmD degree is done in clinical experience rotations), so this will be the first year in 6 that I haven't gone to every home game (and a few roadies). I'm pretty bummed about that. If any of you guys out there with student vouchers happen to stumble across anyone selling 2 Purdue game vouchers, PM me if you could. I'd be interested in buying them.
  4. According to milwaukeebrewers.com, Linebrink was approved for bereavement. That appears to be the corresponding move.
  5. I don't consider myself a "sky is falling" type and I would almost never call a series in July a "must win", but I look at the pitching matchups for this St. Louis series and I feel like we really should win 3 at least. Vargas vs. Maroth (5.82) -- I know I'm not the only one who tenses up hearing "Vargas", but Maroth is even worse, and what's more, he's a lefty. We should knock him around (despite letting him off the hook in Detroit). Parra vs. Thompson (4.93) -- This the one I have us losing in my mind, just because there are no guarantees when you're talking about a young man's first big league start. Capuano vs. Reyes (0-10, 6.40) -- I'm in the camp that W-L record for pitchers doesn't matter much, but this is kind of funny. 0-10. A 6.40 ERA will do that though. Cappy's been better of late, this should be a win. Gallardo vs. Wells (5.57) -- Wells just isn't a good pitcher, at all. Gallardo has been our ace. This should be a gimme. I don't like to put too much pressure on one series because I don't like to be let down to harshly. But I think this is a real big 4 games in 3 days. Let's hope the Cards are blowing all their runs tonight against Chicago!
  6. I started that thread on Loretta because of this: .296/.372 Man an average and OBP like that would look great in front of Braun/Fielder 1. Hart 2. Loretta 3. Braun 4. Fielder 5. Hall 6. Hardy 7. Menchkins 8. Estrada Braun really needs someone in front of him getting on base.
  7. Hart and Hardy a combined 4-8 today after a couple days off, and Graffy with a huge home run in Fielder's place. Maybe Yost does know what he's doing http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Yeah, if Estrada was hustling it'd be one thing. Just a bad day. But that effort was inexcusable.
  9. I think this is part of the "benching", not the wrist injury. It seems he has started against lefties, and sat against righties. I don't agree with it, he needs to play to get into a rhythm, but whatcanyado.
  10. My thought was to rotate all three young 'uns. I don't know how you'd pull that off logistically, but maybe have Parra take a start or two, Villanueva a start or two, and then Gallardo can have the rest. That should put him on pace to be under the innings limits and available for the playoffs (knock on wood). I don't know if it would work simply because that's a lot of bouncing back and forth from the pen to the rotation. But it would save everyone's innings.
  11. Agreed, and I'm really digging the .390 OBP. That would look real sharp in the 2 hole, and Hardy can move down to like the 6 hole where I think he would fit in better.
  12. Ah. Now I feel kind of foolishhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. I'm going to assume that should be in blue. .327/.343/.554 against lefties this year. This is a no-brainer.
  14. I found that bit about Carlos Lee interesting. It's almost like there's some bitterness there. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, I don't know. With the way Cappy's pitching lately, should we put an over/under on the number of walks between the 2 SP? What should it be, 8? 10?
  15. Wow, beautiful piece of hitting by Counsell with the 3B playing in. He laid that right down the line.
  16. Two lefties I guess, didn't want to burn a right hander for the one right-handed hitter. It makes a little sense, but was still surprising. No complaints though -- it worked.
  17. Right, I think you hold onto Counsell in this scenario and maybe do something with Graffy. Loretta would be primarily playing for Weeks if Rickie shows no signs of life between now and the 31st.
  18. Just an idea I had the other day. Would anyone here be interested in Loretta? He would be a rental (expiring contract) and clearly not a guy the 'Stros really need in a year where they're not competing. If Weeks were to struggle through the end of July (aka trade deadline time), it might be a reasonable idea. Even if you only use him to back up Hardy and Weeks (more Weeks), he's hitting .315/.390/.412 and is a career .299/.364/.402 hitter. Seems like that could have some value for us. I wouldn't give up a ton for a rental of Mark Loretta, but if the price was right?
  19. As a PharmD, I can tell you this is not true. Unless you're taking well over 4 grams of acetaminophen in a day (bad for the liver), it is a nearly benign substance. Ibuprofen, along with all the other non-steroidal antiinflammatories like Aleve (naproxen), is much tougher on the stomach and kidneys (in big doses). Tylenol is usually the first thing recommended, and is the only thing routinely recommended in the elderly. Anything containing diphenhydramine (Benadryl) usually gets the job done. Ambien is the top-of-line sleep aid, but it's prescription only and is a federally controlled substance (in the same class as Xanax, Valium, etc). Also, it's expensive. I would never recommend relying on a sleep aid night after night, but if it were a one-night thing, I would go with diphenhydramine (a generic brand Benadryl) before I would buy some name brand "PM" product with 8 different things in it.
  20. Are we sure Sheets is starting? According to the front page on milwaukeebrewers.com it's Sheets, but in the article entitled "Notes: Hall hopeful for a quick recovery", it explicitly says Capuano is starting and Sheets is pushed back a day because he tossed an inning in the all-star game. Capuano is even quoted thinking that it's kinda weird that he will be starting two consecutive games for the Brew.
  21. Man is it a luxury to have a backup catcher that can contribute offensively. Long, long gone are the days of Moeller/Bennett/Blanco/Bako etc. Way to go old man.
  22. Well, I stand corrected on Weeks hitting 8th. That worked out nicely.
  23. Batting 8th hurts Weeks' running game -- obviously he can't be running there and risk not turning the lineup over.
