  1. I guess I just don't quite get why Counsell's hitting 2 when Weeks is hitting 8. I thought the idea was to get your better hitters more at bats, not fewer. Ah well, I guess it's not a big deal, just another little thing about Yost's lineups that eat at me.
  2. Wow that pitch to Weeks was well inside.
  3. I think he's more at the "He's on fire!" stage.
  4. Incredible, just incredible. That is one thing I never, ever thought I'd see. Prince Fielder inside-the-park HR. Wow wow wow.
  5. Good job bullpen. If only Yost hadn't let Suppan labor through 9 ER.
  6. I couldn't agree more. It is all over the place. I think that Graffanino AB was the biggest example. Ball that looked like a strike, then one several inches wider that was called a strike. Baffling.
  7. This game makes me nervous. You have an SP in Vargas who seems to top out at 4-5 IP because he throws so many darn pitches every AB, and you don't have Villanueva as a safety net to cover a couple innings. Jose Capellan better be ready to rock today I have a feeling.
  8. We were worried about Braun's defense???
  9. Nothing going our way...those two balls were ripped and just didn't find holes.
  10. I like this theory and think it very well could be right. It would explain some recent struggles, much like Weeks' recent DL trip hopefully explains his.
  11. A dandy of a pitching performance ruined in the 9th...sounds familiar. Seriously though, the kid doesn't look bad. Not a lot of velocity but his fastball really bites down. Pretty decent looking sinkerballer.
  12. Gwynn back to reality, 3 for his last 17 with 0 BB. I'd really like to see Gross get more of these starts and utilize his patience and OBP behind Weeks. I know this argument has been hashed out 800 times, but I really like the idea of Gross' OBP hitting #2 in this current lineup permutation.
  13. Just an inexcusable baserunning mistake. That has to be on Counsell, I'd be stunned if the manager called for that on a 2-0 to Weeks with nobody out.
  14. Really? Pulling Bush after 70 pitches and only 4 hits allowed? I don't know.
  15. I love the comparison to the 1991 Braves. Man, how awesome would it be to go on a sustained run of success like that, to have everyone gunning for you every year, and you still beat them back and win division titles.
  16. Ugh, I really don't like seeing Counsell and Graffanino in the same lineup. I eagerly anticipate the day that Braun comes up, not just to see him, but to avoid seeing those two in at the same time.
  17. Wow was Prince pumped. I'd really like to know everything he was saying to Capps there. I'm sure it would have to be heavily censored. Also awesome to see Sheets get so pumped up, giving Billy the big bear hug in the dugout.
  18. Unquestionably. The audio really picked it up. Oh, and Paulino is their backup catcher, but Tracy's trying to find ways to get his bat into the lineup I believe. He played first in game one.
  19. This is what it feels like to watch good defense. Feels good.
  20. Lost in the great Suppan play was the great diving play by Weeks before that. Saved a run.
  21. yfinn -- I don't know if you care, but I think the guy in your quote is "Matt" Belisle. C'mon CV, get us to the 9th with the tie.
  22. I think that's the key to free agency this year period. Carlos Lee will help the Astros, but for that money and for that long? Soriano will help the Cubs, Meche will help the Royals, etc. Suppan would help this baseball team. He would fill a need for SP depth, and possibly give us a real nice season. But, if we sign him, we all need to be prepared to wince at the price tag, because it will be high. Perhaps we need to suck it up, get past the money, and accept him for what he is as a player -- an upgrade at a key position.
  23. For the love of god, don't do this. Hendrickson is awful. A 32 year old with a career 4.98 ERA and 1.46 WHIP? This guy has never struck out 100 in a season either. I'm not a huge Mench fan, but he's got to be worth more than this.
  24. Yeah, I agree with RyDogg. If anything, that report about the Orioles makes me the think even more that Villy/Cap/Aquino could get it done.
