Shuckers drop fifth straight in opener at Pensacola Nick Ramirez was 2-for-3 and blasted his 10th homer of the season Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/8/8/188996188/cuts/26881561322_8f1cac6d8f_o_dazi16ly_b7hoqr0h.jpg Nick Ramirez hit his 10th homer of the season on Saturday night in the seventh inning. (Jason Clark) Biloxi Boxscore Angel Ventura didn't pitch exceedingly well, my expectation of him would be to start a tad slow and quickly improve, that's what I've seen him from at each level so far. Tyrone Taylor (2-4,2B) has multi hit games in 6 of his last 10, which is awesome considering how many people were leaving him for dead earlier in the season. He now has the exact same AVE (.246) as Brett Phillips, obviously without the power of Phillips so Taylor's OPS is just .655, but he's also only struck out 51 times in contrast to Phillips' 98. All things being equal I lean power, but all things are not equal here so this CF of the future thing is a much different race than it appeared earlier this season. Brett has the higher ceiling but I've always been fond of Tyrone. This will be an interesting battle moving forward... Nick Ramirez is playing much better of late, with 3 multi hit games in his last 4. I would really like to combine him with Garrett Cooper to make a fairly projectable 1B, but unfortunately life isn't a video game and I can't edit Ramirez' contact rate or Cooper's power. Rattlers fall 3-2 to Peoria Late lead disappears By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/0/0/189012200/cuts/7_9_PlayerOfTheGame_Brandon_Diaz_21ogbcux_1vbprpum.jpg Brandon Diaz doubled and drove in two runs for the Timber Rattlers on Saturday night. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Nick Guenther) Wisconsin Boxscore Corbin Burnes' predraft scouting report can be found here. Of the 2 scouting reports posted there I find the MLB.com version to be more accurate after 4 innings. I was disappointed by Zack Brown's 8th inning, he basically gave the game away with Wild Pitches, and I don't recall the last time I saw a professional player advance 2 bases on a single WP. Brandon Diaz made a fantastic diving in catch in CF, then later had the 2 run double, but he's swinging off his back foot constantly, which bothered me when Prince Fielder started doing that after his 50 HR season, and if I thought it didn't make sense for a powerful 1B it certainly doesn't make sense for a smallish CF. I would guess that's probably the reason he's hitting just .158 and striking out so much (22 of 38 ABs already in relief of Trent Clark), he didn't do that last season. He's always had a higher strike out rate (83 in 283 ABs for 2015), but not this bad. The Rattler hitters were constantly upset with the home plate umpire, I didn't start watching till the end of the 3rd, so I might have missed a catalyst earlier in the game, but there were quite a few instances where T-Rats struck out looking and had quite a bit to say as they walked back to the dugout. Wisconsin Recap ***** Postgame Post – July 9, 2016 3 audio interviews, but currently the Brandon Diaz and Corbin Burnes audio are mislabeled and flip flopped. *****

I was positive the TV crew said tonight that both Diplan and Peralta were promoted, but I've been unable to find anything on Diplan, Ereckison didn't mention it in the post game interview either. For the record I'm not in favor of promoting Diplan this season given the current status of his control and command. They already pushed Medeiros up before I feel he was ready and I'd rather they not push Diplan up simply because his ERA and peripherals are nice and shiny. I'd much rather Diplan works on his control where he can have success without it in WI and be promoted next year, then if he struggles so be it.

Stashak Stifles Rattlers Cedar Rapids shuts out Wisconsin 1-0 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore Jordan Yamamoto was outstanding allowing just 1 run over 7 innings of 7 strike out ball, unfortunately the rest of the team was not as Juan Ortiz collected the Rattlers' only hit. Rough start hands Shuckers third straight loss Tyrone Taylor goes 2-for-4 and extends hitting streak Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/4/8/188609548/cuts/2Q5A2240_4lr04j49_1vuqny90.JPG Tyrone Taylor extended his hitting streak to eight games with a 2-for-4 night on Thursday. (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Postives... well the bullpen pitched 6 clean innings though Gage Smith did allow all of Jorge Ortega's inherited runners to score in the 2nd. Nick Ramirez' 2 hit game pushed his AVE back up over .200. Biloxi Recap

Cedar Rapids tops Rattlers 9-8 in 12 innings Diaz homers twice, Ghelfi hits 3-run homer in ninth By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore Not a good day on the pitching side as all 4 Rattler pitchers gave up runs. Troy Stokes (4-5,2 2B,BB) had his best performance of the year and pushed his AVE to .236. He was joined by Mitch Ghelfi (2-6,HR), Isan Diaz (2-5,2 HR,BB), David Denson (2-5,2B,BB), and Luis Aviles (2-5,BB) who all had multi hit games. In a rare occurrence for the Brewer organization, especially in WI, the team walked (7) as many times as it struck out. Wisconsin Recap

Wang's third straight quality start not enough in 3-1 loss to Suns Tyrone Taylor homered for the third time in five games to extend hitting streak Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/5/0/188419050/cuts/2Q5A7851_82rd1hyr_qomjvblp.JPG Wei-Chung Wang has allowed just three runs over his last 20.2 innings and three starts. (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Wei-Chung Wang has been on the upswing as the game story headline notes, but was undone by the 6th inning HR. Johnny Davis continues to get IF singles, a bunt base hit today, as i said when he was in WI I'm unconvinced that sort of skill set will transition, and if it does, speed doesn't last so eventually all hitters need to be able to barrel up pitches. On a personal note I'm incredibly fond of Johnny but I have a hard time reconciling that against the realities of how he gets on base. Biloxi Recap

Miscues cost Shuckers in 4-1 loss to Suns Garrett Cooper sees 25-game on-base and 12-game hitting streak come to an end Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/9/6/188195396/cuts/8S1A6080_2vi3bvm2_cbtx0lv2.JPG Tyrone Taylor was 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to a season-high six games. (M.K. Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Well I discussed Taylor Jungmann's control in my WI post, and of course that was before I looked at this boxscore, and truthfully before I even knew he was starting today, so *sigh*. I don't really have anything to add regarding Jungmann than I've already said numerous times in the past, it's just too bad really. Brett Lee has had a very rough 2016 campaign to this point. On the good news side of things Tyrone Taylor remains hot and tallied an outfield assist while Javier Betancourt jumped back over the Mendoza line. Jacob Nottingham (0-4. 4 SOs) had a miserable game on both ends with 2 errors, he's up to 11 on the season in addition to 16 passed balls. His CS% is also <30%, bottom line he's just not strong defensively so he's going to have to provide most of his value with the bat. Biloxi Recap

Rattlers win 6-2 over Kernels Diplan tosses five scoreless innings; Ghelfi with three hits and three runs scored By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore Marcos Diplan is a fascinating study in "effectively wild", he rarely has a completely dominating game, always too many hits or walks, but often ends up with a spectacular result on the whole. Over the years I've talked quite a bit about "quality strikes", like with Jungmann and Medeiros for example, and I concede people may believe that I'm being overly hateful, but I'm truly of the mind set that if you aren't able to hit spots MLB hitters will eventually figure you out. Pitchers like that who lack control with a couple of plus secondary pitches (K-Rod would be an example), can still have success in limited roles, but if you aren't able to hit spots you aren't a MLB starting pitcher. Of course I know there are some extremely talented pitchers who couldn't locate and had decent careers such as Edwin Jackson, but those players are few and far between, and I don't base my assessments off of extreme cases in either direction. Certainly pitchers in A ball have plenty of time to refine their control and command however I'm going to remain a skeptic about any pitcher until he can put up back to back statistically proper seasons and have legitimate stuff to go with it. Nate Griep is easily my favorite reliever below AA, 'nuff said. Isan Diaz (2-4,HR,2B) has been downright beastly of late, the double and homer came in his first 2 ABs. Mitch Ghelfi (3-4,2 2B) has been on fire as well hitting in 8 of his 10 last games. Brandon Diaz was dropped all the way to the 9th spot and responded with a 2B, it would be nice to see him get going and finish the year strong. Wisconsin Recap

Shuckers take down Suns on Independence Day Cooper and Taylor homer as Hall earns quality start and victory Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/8/0/188009880/cuts/2Q5A7952_jle0swt0_vnnyzd1w.JPG Brooks Hall earned the win and his second-straight quality start on Monday night (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Brooks Hall has been pitching better of late, he's been successful when he's kept the walks down this season. Today he even contributed offensively with a lead off double in the 4 run 5th! The bullpen was awesome, check the boxscore for their individual statistics on the season. Gabriel Noriega hasn't hit all that much, but his hits have been timely, and he did record 3 in today's action. Tyrone Taylor continues to show some life as he's now hitting .357 over his last 10. Kernels rally to beat Rattlers 6-5 Wisconsin led 5-0, but drop tough decision at Cedar Rapids By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore I probably have unrealistically high expectations of the Miguel Diaz/Freddy Peralta combo so when they actually lose a start, I'm completely shocked. Like the rest of the weekend I was following on my phone and thought the game was in the bag when the Rattlers went up 5-0, but I should know better than that as well. I'm pretty sure the Rattlers collected 8 hits in the first 3 innings and then only 2 over the course of the rest of the game. Those first 3 innings were a blast though with Troy Stokes (3-4,BB), Isan Diaz (2-4.3B.BB), and Jake Gatewood (2-4,2B,BB) all posting multi hit games. Stokes and David Denson have been moving in opposite directions for a while now as Denson's AVE has fallen below .250 and Stokes has climbed over .220. Unfortunately Brandon Diaz has gotten off to an extremely slow start for the Rattlers as well after his demotion from BC. Wisconsin Recap -
Shuckers win rubber match over Barons, 4-1, taking series Brandon Woodruff earned first win in nearly a month as Garrett Cooper extends streaks Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/3/4/187823734/cuts/26908689561_4ec4eacc38_o_k8e2qnn1_7j4usd6v.jpg Javier Betancourt snapped an 0-for-20 with a two-run single in the second inning on Sunday night. (Jason Clark) Biloxi Boxscore Deja vu all over again with Tyrone Taylor and Garrett Cooper. as they've been the most prominent names over the last week, and in Cooper's case much of the season. Brandon Woodruff has had runs of good and bad in Biloxi, he hadn't pitched this well since 6/10 and this was one heck of a performance. Stephen Kohlscheen has been somewhat of a revelation, and if you're wondering "whom?" you aren't alone, i was right there with you not so long ago. Kohlscheen struck out the side in the 9th to nail down the victory, he's been on some kind of run lately striking out 15 over his last 10 innings. Biloxi Recap

Wisconsin's Winning Streak Ends with 4-3 Loss Bees break tie with run in eighth By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore Isan Diaz (2-3,2B,BB) and Sthervin Matos (2-3) posted multi hit games for the T-Rats. Jake Drossner has shown signs here and there that he has more in his tank but outings like today aren't helping his cause long term. Wisconsin Recap

(Benton Reed Photography) Biloxi Boxscore Jorge Ortega had one of his better outings throwing just 93 pitches to get through 7 innings. Raise your hand if you thought Angel Ortega would be hitting over .280+ this late in the season... that's what I thought. Is this a breakout performance or a one year wonder scenario? Garrett Cooper continues to make contributions, what a wonderful season he's having. Biloxi Recap

Wisconsin Beats Burlington 5-2 Yamamoto strikes out eight as Rattlers win third straight Wisconsin Boxscore Jordan Yamamoto continues his fine season to date, and continues to flash signs of brilliance on occasion. I don't talk much about the relievers but I am fond of Nate Griep, he's had an excellent season thus far. The Rattlers were outhit but still plated 5 runs on just 6 hits due to the 4 run 4th inning, Jake Gatewood (2-4) had the only multi hit game and has hits in 8 of his last 10 games. Wisconsin Recap

Gatewood & Ghelfi Lead the Way for Wisconsin Rattlers win 4-2 at Burlington By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore Chris is going to cover the hitting as Jake Gatewood and Mitch Ghelfi combined to record 6 of the T-Rats 7 hits so I'll look at the pitching. Devin Williams has occasionally blown up this season but he's in the middle of another good run, or at least it would appear so. In Drake Owenby's last 10 games he's pitched 41 innings and allowed 15 earned runs for a very respectable 3.29 ERA, but his season ERA stands at just 2.58... which tells you how good he was to start the season. He's not going to blow you away with his peripheral numbers or his stuff, though his strike out rate is very good, he's just been rock solid so far this season. Wisconsin Recap

The pitching staff was just awesome in this one allowing just 3 hits in 12 innings. Jacob Nottingham's (3-6) climb towards respectability continues as he pushed his AVE over .260, his defense needs some work but he's been good at the plate the last 2 months, OPSing over .770 in both May and June. Garrett Cooper pushed his AVE up over .320 earlier this week and Biloxi won without a meaningful offensive contribution from him which has been rare this season. Biloxi Recap

(Jason Clark) Biloxi Boxscore Brooks Hall with far and away his best appearance of the season but it didn't hold up, which is too bad. The offense didn't do much with just 6 hits and 1 run but on the plus side Garrett Cooper was a factor once again. It's been a pretty poor start to the second half. Biloxi Recap -
Clinton clips Wisconsin 5-3 Gatewood & Denson homer for Timber Rattlers By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/1/8/186710718/cuts/PlayerOftheGame6_28_Gatewood_IMAGE_8zn476dw_sq2so5vz.jpg Jake Gatewood hit his ninth home run of the season for the Timber Rattlers on Tuesday afternoon. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Nick Guenther) Wisconsin Boxscore Conor Harber deserved a better fate and Jake Drossner would be fine if he would quit giving up crooked numbers. He's not as bad as his ERA would suggest at first glance, he just gets behind too many hitters and ends up giving up too many hits and walks, but he's striking out over a batter per inning as well. No multi hit games and the HRs will be covered by the game story. Wisconsin Recap

(Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Well after bagging on the T-Rats tonight I hardly have the heart to do it again but Brandon Woodruff struggled mightily as noted earlier in this thread. In truth the first 3 Shucker pitchers didn't pitch well and this game was over after the 6th. Biloxi managed just 6 hits and Tyrone Taylor (2-4) had the only multi hit game. Biloxi Recap
