  1. Shuckers back in first after 3-2 win over Biscuits in 14 Victor Roache singled in the tying run and scored winning run on Wednesday Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/2/0/183017120/cuts/26943050206_d32090eafe_o_po5xw8fm_zg3gilxn.jpg Victor Roache scored the game winning run in the 14th inning after a his first triple of 2016 (Jason Clark) Biloxi Boxscore I fell asleep following this one so I missed the late game heroics. Jorge Ortega settled into his predictable line... about a hit per inning, low walks, low strike outs, and a couple of runs. The bullpen was simply amazing with 8.1 scoreless innings. This wasn't a stellar offensive effort as only Victor Roache (2-5,3B,2B,BB) managed a multi hit game in 14 innings. Biloxi Recap
  2. Rattlers return the favor and shuts out Clinton One night after losing 6-0, Wisconsin beats LumberKings 7-0 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/2/6/182989226/cuts/6_8_PlayerOfTheGame_JordonYamamoto_9wxq60rt_xgl9cc2t.png Jordan Yamamoto pitched six scoreless innings, allowed two hits, struck out four, and picked up the win in the Rattlers 7-0 victory over Clinton on Wednesday night. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) Wisconsin Boxscore I doubt anyone loves great pitching more than I do so Jordan Yamamoto and Devin Williams didn't disappoint, and it was another televised game to boot. I'll take 5 hits, 2 walks, and 9 strike outs over 9 innings every single time out. Since returning from injury Trent Clark is looking much more aggressive at the plate, the HR will be in the highlights and there was no doubt. 5 T-Rats pounded out multiple hits including Blake Allemand (2-5), Isan Diaz (2-3,2 2B,BB), Monte Harrison (2-4,2B), Alan Sharkey (2-4,2B), and Carlos Belonis (3-4). Diaz has also been hot of late now hitting .303 over his last ten. Wisconsin Recap ****** Postgame Post – June 8, 2016 ******
  3. Shuckers drop first in Montgomery Tuesday Jacob Nottingham extended his hitting streak to six games and on-base streak to 16 games Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/1/0/182762410/cuts/Cooperthumb3_p875mzu0_qnaaorm8.jpg Garrett Cooper had a double and drove in two runs on Tuesday night Biloxi Boxscore Javier Salas and Brooks Hall were not good, though Hall did clean up Salas' mess in the 2nd. Garrett Cooper continues to rake, he had a mini slump a couple of weeks back but is hitting .353 over his last 10 and still sports .311 AVE. Biloxi Recap Can't wait to read about this in the game story... Montgomery Bottom of the 1st Kean Wong singles on a line drive to center fielder Brett Phillips. Jake Bauers flies out to left fielder Garrett Cooper. With Casey Gillaspie batting, Kean Wong steals (8) 2nd base. Casey Gillaspie walks. Wild pitch by pitcher Javier Salas. Kean Wong to 3rd. With Willy Adames batting, Casey Gillaspie caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Rene Garcia to second baseman Nate Orf. Willy Adames walks. Kean Wong out at home, catcher Rene Garcia.
  4. Clinton blanks Rattlers, 6-0 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/4/2/182763942/cuts/PlayerOftheGame_6_7_niath7xc_p11gmgco.jpg Max McDowell went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, and was hit by a pitch for the Rattlers on Tuesday night. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) Wisconsin Boxscore Well David Burkhalter stumbled again... darn. Blake Allemand (2-3) and Max McDowell (2-3,2B) had nice games as the Rattlers were rather quiet offensively. Wisconsin Recap ***** Postgame Post – June 7, 2016 *****
  5. Hader continues Southern League dominance with six strong on Monday Josh Hader matched a season-high with eight more strikeouts Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/4/4/182533744/cuts/27028508042_d9e9d849aa_o_0bw45j4l_zphg3662.jpg Josh Hader has a 0.95 ERA after his first 11 starts of 2016 (Jason Clark) Biloxi Boxscore Plenty of discussion about Hader already in the thread. Biloxi was outhit but made the most of their opportunities. Biloxi Recap
  6. Nottingham leads Shuckers to 4-2 win over Biscuits Jacob Nottingham had a season-high three hits and three RBIs Sunday Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/9/4/182381894/cuts/26519537243_d376f59884_o_yltjumx8_fbjsqp2p.jpg Jacob Nottingham hit a third inning homer, his third in his last four games. (Jason Clark) Biloxi Boxscore I posted Jacob Nottingham's splits in the last couple of weeks, I forget exactly when, but he's been fantastic since the calendar flipped from April to May, and it's continuing in June as he's hitting .342 over his last 10 games. Remember he finished April hitting just .159 and is now batting .256. The pitching was pretty darn good as well and though Brandon Woodruff hasn't been earth shattering in AA to this point, today he was really solid. The 3 pitchers out of the bullpen didn't allow a hit or walk while striking out 5. Biloxi Recap
  7. Kane County stops Rattlers 3-2 Matsui's eighth inning homer is the difference By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/6/0/178350160/cuts/5_15_PlayerOftheGameDavidDenson_dnxba5xk_nccxtxb4.jpg David Denson went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and an RBI for the Rattlers on Sunday afternoon. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) Wisconsin Boxscore It's not right when the Rattlers lose a Macros Diplan/Freddy Peralta start. I've been posting all year how Diplan gets himself into trouble, he was riding the fence well most of the season and getting himself out of trouble, but for the 2nd game in a row it didn't work that way. His balk was particularly costly as he struck out the batter he was facing and the next hitter as well to get out of the inning. The bats didn't show up today as the Rattlers managed just 4 hits. 8. Harrison Homers Rattlers Past Kane County Rattler outfielder hits two homers in 5-1 win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/8/4/182219684/cuts/6_4_PlayerOfTheGame_MonteHarrison_0ngqbv5i_f5skb2e6.png Monte Harrison homered twice for the Timber Rattlers in a 5-1 win over Kane County on Saturday Night. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) Wisconsin Boxscore Matt Garza opened up with all FBs, and that's all he threw until the HR in the 3rd. In the first he was up with with everything but still got 3 GBs, all to Isan Diaz. In the second he was down where he should be pitching and got a SO and 2 ground outs, in the 3rd he was up again and it cost him with the HR, he also gave up a single that was erased on another Matt McDowell CS, I thought he was safe live and also on the replay. Garza again walked a batter in the 4th that was erased by McDowell, this time the runner was out by a step and half at 2nd. The bullpen behind Garza was fantastic as Alex Farina and Conor Harber combined to allow 1 hit and 7 strike outs with no walks over 4.2 innings. Kane County is attacking Isan Diaz (2-4,HR,2B) away and for the second day in a row he made them pay by homering opposite field. As TLB noted Monte Harrison (2-4,2HR) hit a rocket down the line that was barely fair and then a moon shot that didn't look special off the bat but was well over the wall in LF. 9. Shuckers and Braves cancelled on Saturday at MGM Park The game was halted in the middle of the first inning as rains caused unplayable field conditions Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/9/6/182182896/cuts/Tarp_64_fadowxop_wpf4o6g8.jpg
  10. Shuckers drop third straight to Braves on a rain soaked Friday at MGM Park Jacob Nottingham blasted his sixth home run and fourth in 13 games Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/7/6/182065076/cuts/2Q5A0939_7mjw33tz_x1tl711z.JPG Jacob Nottingham blasted his sixth home run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday (Michael Krebs) Bilxoi Boxscore Jorge Ortega hurt himself with the walks in the 3rd, that was all it took in this one, but the bullpen was awesome. Just 4 hits on the offensive side of things, a clunker. Biloxi Recap
  11. Diaz & Diaz deal a loss to Kane County Allemand goes 3-for-3 to keep his streaks rolling By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/3/2/182030632/cuts/6_3_PlayerOfTheGame_IsanDiaz_8hvw2l8q_ut5wqx29.png Isan Diaz drove in both Wisconsin Timber Rattlers runs for a 2-0 win over the Kane County Cougars Friday night. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) Wisconsin Boxscore I've watched Miguel Diaz pitch 3 times now and I have no idea how could have possibly had such a recent cold streak. His FB has nice arm side run, it was up to 97 on the stadium gun, his breaking stuff is sharp and will occasionally flash plus, his control is average to above average depending on the start... It could just be that he's been at his best on TV, but damn he can be impressive. He was obviously tired in the 7th, right around 80 pitches, or perhaps he just lost it... maybe that's what happens to him, he'll lose his mechanics in short stretches. I wasn't paying close enough attention to see if his arm slot changed or not. Not much to talk about offensively other than Blake Allemand's continued dominance. David Denson was noticeably pissed at himself after fly out to the warning track that allowed Monte Harrison to move up to 3rd, it looked like he felt he missed his pitch. Isan Diaz' HR was an opposite field shot over corner of the tall part of the wall in LF, I had to laugh when the left fielder put his hands on his head when it went out. 12. I watched the T-Rats game, I'll have observations much later tonight.
  13. M-Braves' five-run sixth inning downs Shuckers Thursday Domingo Santana goes 1-for-3 in his final rehab start from Milwaukee Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/6/4/181833364/cuts/2Q5A0158_2wg6bj1g_97v39goa.JPG Domingo Santana went 1-for-3 with a walk in his final rehab outing with the Shuckers on Thursday (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Man do I hate losing to prospects who I wanted in the draft, Sean Newcomb gave up 2 hits and struck out 7 batters, though he did walk 3 Shuckers in his 6 innings. Javier Salas was matching him inning per inning for a while, but it all came crashing down in the 6th, and then Brooks Hall added more fuel to the fire in the 7th. At least Hobbs Johnson posted his first scoreless outing since 5/8, he had a DL stint in there but it's been a rough season for him to this point. I would term Brett Phillips' season to this point as below expectations, but he's still posted an .817 OPS and hit 7 HRs in less than half a season, at a defensive orientated position. Hopefully the plate discipline and AVE will improve as the season progresses, this is what BA said about him coming into 2016: Biloxi Recap
  14. Rattlers take road trip finale 3-1 at Peoria Allemand goes 4-for-4 with a homer; Belonis knocks in go-ahead run in 8th By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore Devin Williams finally pitched like I had been expecting him to which was awesome, it would be sweet if he would keep it going for the rest of the season. There will always be a bump or 2 in the road, but I mean in general. Jordan Yamamoto has been steady all season, who would have thought he would be out pitching Medeiros at the same point in their careers? I realize they are at different levels, but the progression from Jordan has been impressive. Blake Allemand (4-4,HR) had another monster game but isn't going anywhere until Tucker Neuhaus returns from injury, BC has been starved for offense all season and if he continues hitting after getting bumped back up it will be a welcome addition to that roster. Carlos Belonis (3-4) continues his stellar campaign as well, he's hit .342 over his last 10 games and has bumped his AVE up to .299. Wisconsin Recap
  15. Braves even series with 6-2 win over Shuckers in 14 innings Adrian Houser's quality start lowers starters ERA to 0.77 over last six games Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/1/4/181648114/cuts/2Q5A0083_0d6f8l8f_cuo2ze7a.JPG Adrian Houser tossed six innings of one run baseball on Wednesday night at MGM Park (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Adrian Houser had a really nice start, reminiscent of how he pitched post trade last year. Garrett Cooper played 3 positions and went 4-6 on the evening, that's about all you can ask of a player. Biloxi Recap
  16. Wisconsin gets 12 hits, but falls 7-2 at Peoria Allemand stays hot for Rattlers, but team can't hold early lead By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore David Burkhalter wasn't as good today but David Lucroy didn't do him any favors either, this game got away in the 6th which I'm sure Chris will discuss in the game story. Blake Allemand's (2-5,2B) massive hot streak continues while Jake Gatewood (2-4), Monte Harrison (2-4), and Sthervin Matos (2-4) had multi hit games. 12 hits and 2 runs.... (sigh). Wisconsin Recap
  17. Makes me sad but with so little history with this front office it's difficult to project exactly what they are doing. I don't expect them to blow the pool on one player like they did with Lara every year, I'd prefer 2-3 signings in that 750K range every year, or maybe 1 million+ signing with 3-4 mid tier, or however it shakes out. Basically I want them to spend the full pool allotment each year and I wouldn't mind going over if necessary.
  18. Rattlers drop game one in Peoria Chiefs beat Rattlers 5-1 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/0/6/181395006/cuts/Matt_Garza_05_31_16_GAME_IMAGE_k5dh1afx_srtkl0uq.jpg Matt Garza tossed two innings in a rehabilitation start for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday night in Peoria. (Peoria Chiefs/Allison Rhoades) Wisconsin Boxscore I didn't like the Matt Garza signing from the start, well to be fair I hardly liked a single FA singing the organization made during Melvin's tenure so he was pretty much par for the course. He hasn't pitched in a long time so hopefully this is just a road to better days ahead with the MLB club, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Marcos Diplan finally limits the walks but then falls apart in the 8th giving up back to back triples and then a single to score 2 runs. I'm struggling to compare him to a former Brewer prospect as I honestly keep coming up blank. The offense was almost entirely Blake Allemand (2-4,2B) and Isan Diaz (2-3,BB), Allemand has been on some kind of hot streak lately, he's hitting .429 over his last 10 and Diaz has bumped his AVE back up to .212 hitting in 5 of his last 6 games. Wisconsin Recap
  19. Woodruff earns first Double-A win after seven strong on Tuesday night Rehabbing Brewers right fielder Domingo Santana homered in the 7-1 win Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/6/6/181378266/cuts/2Q5A9197_5fen0h3o_3onpkk6i.JPG Former Mississippi State Bulldog Brandon Woodruff tossed a team-high seven innings of one-run baseball on Tuesday. (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Between the game story and the previous comments in the thread I was beaten to the punch so I have nothing to add! Biloxi Recap
  20. i understand that, but I lean towards the "cut em some slack" camp.
  21. He can improve, but I'm not giving him a pass. Yes, the angle is different but you are still throwing a baseball from point A to point B. It should not be an adventure every throw. A few errors here and there fielding is to be expected, but he's been awful fielding and throwing. I see both sides here, and as more people who typically don't deal or take interest in the volatile nature of prospect performance are contributing in this forum there is a danger of judging prospects too harshly. Jake has some serious flaws in his game, but he's also made tremendous improvement in being able to barrel up pitches, and he's still very young as MH noted. His batting average in high school was extremely pedestrian by top prospect standards so he had a very large plate discipline hill to climb from the get go. When it comes to fielding I'm more interested in how a player moves than their error total, and at 3B the ball gets on players much quicker, which is why Neuhaus benefited defensively being moved to 2nd, he just didn't seem to be able to react quick enough to make the plays at 3B. Personally I try to offer shapshot views... as in this a player's strengths and weaknesses today, as that's how I've always viewed player development as a coach and I have a difficult time moving away from. I do that with every sport now, I'm not able to root with the blind enthusiasm as I would have before I coached, my perspective has been forever changed. I believe criticism needs to be tempered on the minor league side which is why I will occasionally point out issues but I won't harp on them daily. For example the Gatewood "walk watch" is extreme because if you were to objectively determine how to progress a hitter from nothing to a complete package, step 1 would be to start with making solid contact and barreling up hitter's pitches. Every player has a somewhat unique learning curve and in my case I'm basically looking for some sort of progression both statistically and visually over the course of the season. Athletically Gatewood could easily be a 3B but I think the jury is still out on him over there, he certainly didn't take to it naturally so it's going to be a process.
  22. Déjà vu for the Rattlers in a 3-2 loss at Cedar Rapids Wisconsin rallies to tie in the ninth, but loses in the bottom of the ninth By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore Jake Drossner pitched one of his better games but it didn't hold up. Blake Allemand (2-3,2 2B) had the only multi hit game and pushed his AVE to .303 Wisconsin Recap
  23. Shuckers power past BayBears to split series Brett Phillips and Nick Ramirez blasted two run homers in the sixth Biloxi Shuckers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/0/6/181012106/cuts/2Q5A8594_ioux09qo_fo7076qk.JPG Brett Phillips blasted his team-leading seventh home run on Sunday (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Boxscore Brett Lee didn't pitch well but everyone else did today. Brooks Hall got the actual start and pitched pretty well, it's no secret I've never been a believer in him as a legit starter but with SO numbers like he put up today I could change my tune. Biloxi Recap
  24. Kernels Crush Rattlers with Late Comeback Cedar Rapids rallies from 6-0 hole for 9-8 walkoff win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wisconsin Boxscore In my opinion Drake Owenby has been better in relief than as a starter all year. Migual Diaz is on a bit of a cold streak, he's given up 4 runs in 3 of his last 4 outings. The hitters did more than enough to win this with Blake Allemand (2-4,BB), Luis Aviles (2-5), and Mitch Ghelfi (2-4) posting multi hit games. Every Rattler hitter contributed except for Isan Diaz, who also committed the game ending error, just a tough game for him. Wisconsin Recap Far and away the busiest recap of the year if you are so inclined.
