  1. No I get what you are saying. These are AA umpires, not rookie league, Mark isn't the first power pitcher to come through the minors, nor was he just missing the plate. Chad described many of his pitches "way outside". I love his upside, I've always supported the pick, he just needs to throw more strikes.
  2. I care when he has more walks than strike outs and almost a walk per inning. Not only is he putting unnecessary runners on base, but he's wasting pitches which won't allow him to get deep enough into games. We can't have pitchers in the MLB rotation that struggle to get through 6 IP in 110 pitches for a variety of reasons.
  3. If Mark could just throw strikes he could be in the rotation next year.
  4. How many do you realistically expect to have in the minors at 1 time? Beyond the players already mentioned, Salome has the potential to be an impact bat from the C position. Off the top of my head players that could project with league average numbers or better are Lucroy, Gindl, Cain, Dennis, Richardson, and Green. Other players I'm intrigued by are players like Garfield, Walla, Schafer, Prince, and Kjeldgaard. So the potential difference makers are Lawrie, Gamel, Davis, and Salome. Players that could be average or better are Lucroy, Gindl, Cain, Dennis, Richardson, and Green. I want to throw Schafer here, but I'm not sure he'll put up league average numbers, Farris isn't even putting up league average numbers for the position in the minors so I didn't list him. The vast majority of those players are in AA or AAA this year, so we'll have a nice infusion of talent to the MLB roster in the near future. We don't need to have a team of impact bats to compete, we just need a couple and everyone else to be average or better, just eliminate the black holes in the line up and we're okay. I can't believe I'm saying this but if Fielder would be extended for any length of time the offense it going to get pretty damn good. The only players I listed that you couldn't make an argument for 20 HRs out of at this time are Cain, Richardson, Schafer, and Prince. Even if the majority of those guys fail if we can assemble an impact rotation we'll be right there competing for the division every year. edit. Forgot to add Davis back in.
  5. I find it hard to criticize Gomez at all given how overwhelmingly negative I was about the trade at the time, just seems like piling on to me now. We're just about 5 games into the season, so it's way to early to make any declarative statements about him so I'll just say he's been exactly what I expected to this point. I hate the concept of the trade but I will continue to hold out hope that Gomez finds a way to harness his immense talent at some point before Cain and/or Schafer are ready.
  6. I was just going to ask the same thing... why is Parra not the one warming up? He hasn't pitched yet this season and it's the perfect opportunity to get him some work if Macha doesn't trust him in a close game.
  7. Well between the T-Rats and the big club this hasn't been a banner day for defense, pitching, or hitting... cripes.
  8. I knew it wasn't good when every time I switched back to the WI audio Chris was talking about runs scoring, but it's currently 7-0... yikes.
  9. I captured the pre game and between games audio interviews for Huntsville and Wisconsin tonight. However it appears that Houndbite is now defunct so I need to find a new site to host the audio. Once I find a new place to host and the teams give me permission I will add the appropriate audio to each link report.
  10. Ha nothing but gas and he swings right through, thank goodness.
  11. Well I hope this works out, putting 2 guys on in front of Holliday who's red hot tonight.
  12. Bucci comes a little bit unglued in the first inning of the second game, he gives up a run without allowing a hit... 3 BBs and an error.
  13. Wow, T-Rats win on an IF single by Gennett in the bottom of the 7th, Chris thought it was an E4 but either way the T-Rats win the opener.
  14. Come on dude, he got his feet under him and put something on the throw. Casey just isn't agile enough to be able to do the same thing. It doesn't matter if he was going to 2nd or 1st, I'm talking about the ability to pop off the ground in proper body position to make a good throw.
  15. MiLB really needs to resolve the scoreboard issues with these box scores, I'm too lazy to go through and add up all the runs to figure out what the scores are.
  16. I don't know about fantastic. He made a nice stop and got the runner, but the throw was very weak. He's just not agile enough to get off the ground and make a strong throw. It all worked out, but Escobar made a similar play on the line drive and still managed to get off a strong throw. Casey is what he is, solid yet unspectacular. He did make the play and that's all that really matters in the end.
  17. Suppan is getting hit around to start the 4th. 1 run is already in, there are no outs, and now runners on 1st and 2nd. edit. Suppan loads the bases, gets a K, then a 1-2-3 double play to get out of the inning. 1-1 to the bottom of the 4th.
  18. Now the T-Rats join the defensive party, Richardson loses a high fly ball in almost straight away center and it falls for a triple. edit. The defensive woes continue for Kane County, Paciorek 2 doubles on a bleeder down the line and then on the next pitch advances to 3rd on a WP. Every T-Rat base runner has touched 3rd thus far.
  19. Suppan hitting 89 on the gun at Time Warner Field? Is this really 2003? At any rate a good start so far for the T-Rats. Suppan actually struck out 2 batters in the top of the first, then Richardson led off with an IF single, advanced to 2nd on the bad throw, then to third on a WP. edit. After Gennet and Davis K, Garfield gets jammed but muscles it over 2B for a single to drive in the first run of the season. Then Garfield steals 2nd, the throw goes into CF, and now he's standing on 3rd. Shoddy defense early.
  20. Nah I would have guessed the same BK, I just happened to flip over to Nashville when I couldn't get the Huntsville feed back. The first play I heard was Salome's out at the plate, then the WP the next half inning which I really couldn't get any kind of read on from the audio, then he stole second and managed to go over the bag. I too was wondering if he's on a mission to prove he can run well, or there were some suspect arms on the other side. I wasn't playing close enough attention to tell to be honest, I was struggling to get a new audio program working on this machine and messing around trying to record parts of the broadcast and play them back while I was troubleshooting.
  21. Negative sir, he stole second cleanly then proceeded to over slide the bag. On the play at home he tried to score on a shallow single to the OF from 2nd with 2 outs and was gunned on a bang bang play.
  22. Ha, I combined the 2 names, but yes I meant Dolis, as Stephen was just reading what Jim had written about him. edit. Is the Huntsville audio working for anyone? I'm unable to tune back into that game.
  23. Calis, the cubs pitcher throwing against BC tonight is hitting triple digits on occasion now? Cripes, I hope he continues to have control issues and just ends up as a reliever. K Davis makes a very nice rolling catch as I'm typing this for BC.
